Confirmed: Andrea Jeremiah joins the cast of Thalapathy 64

Even though it has been just a couple of weeks since ‘Thalapathy 64’ shoot started, the hype surrounding it is already massive. Lokesh Kanagaraj, whose latest release ‘Kaithi’, is garnering phenomenal response from all over, is directing this film. Apart from Vijay, the film has a stellar star cast comprising of Vijay Sethupathi, Antony Varghese, Malavika Mohanan and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj. Latest to join is the extremely talented, Andrea Jeremiah. The director has confirmed that she will be playing a very important role in the film.

‘Thalapathy 64’ is said to be a completely different attempt from the usual mass entertainers that Vijay does. There are rumours about Vijay playing a college processor who turns rogue seeking revenge. Vijay Sethupathi plays the antagonist in the film. On the technical side, music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography is by Sathyan Sooryan. Xavier Britto is producing the film, which is scheduled for a summer release next year.

Vijay’s ‘Bigil’, as expected, has taken the box office by storm. The worldwide gross on the opening day alone is estimated to be over Rs 40 crore. In Tamil Nadu, the film has grossed approximately Rs 26 cr, which makes it the second biggest opener in the state. In Kerala, ‘Bigil’ has finished behind ‘Lucifer’ to become the second biggest opener of 2019.

Mohanlal’s ‘Lucifer’ had grossed Rs 6.37 crore on the opening day while ‘Bigil’ has earned around Rs 4.80 crore. ‘Madhura Raja’ is the third highest opener in Kerala this year with a gross of Rs 3.70 crore. It must be noted that ‘Bigil’ was a non-holiday release and in addition to that, the film was released in lesser number of centres (336 screens), due to the restriction enforced in Kerala for other language films.

‘Bigil’ is currently placed third in the opening day figures of other language films in Kerala box office. Vijay’s own ‘Sarkar’ (5.62 cr) holds the first position followed by ‘Baahubali 2’ (5.45 cr). Mersal (4.65 cr) is in the fourth spot and next on the list is 2.O (4.15 cr). With Vijay’s films holding three out of the five places, it is just another proof to the kind of massive popularity that the star enjoys in Kerala.

Mamangam to release in overseas centres through Phars Films!

Mammootty’s ‘Mamangam’ is arguably one of the biggest films ever made in Malayalam cinema history. The Padmakumar directorial is made on a huge scale with massive production values, star-studded cast and a strong technical crew. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film, which is slated to hit screens on November 21.

As the release date is closing in, the makers are finalizing all business deals. The overseas rights was recently acquired by Phars Films Co LLC. Apart from Malayalam, ‘Mamangam’ is releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well. Since it is a war film with an epic nature, it is expected to work with non-Malayalis as well.

‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from true events. Sajeev Pillai penned the script originally, which was later adapted by Shanker Ramakrishnan. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.

Mammootty, Unni Mukundan, Prachi Tehlan, Sudev Nair, Kaniha, Anu Sithara and Inyea will be seen in major roles.

Expectations were massive on Vijay’s ‘Bigil’ even months before its release but it seems like the film has exceeded all that. The film has taken an extraordinary opening both in the domestic and overseas box office. All the leading trade analysts have unanimously reported that ‘Bigil’ has emerged as the best opener among the Diwali releases in Indian cinema this year.

‘Bigil’ had to compete with Bollywood films like ‘Housefull 4’, ‘Made In China’ and the Karthi starrer ‘Kaithi’. ‘Housefull 4’ with its stellar star cast comprising of Akshay Kumar, Rana Daggubati, Bobby Deol, Rities Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon and Pooja Hegde came in with great hype but the film has failed to lived up to the expectations. There is a steady dip in collections and ‘Bigil’ thereby is leading very comfortably.

‘Bigil’ is having a terrific run not just in Tamil Nadu, but in Kerala, Karnataka, the two Telugu speaking states and in North Indian centres like Mumbai. In GCC region, ‘Bigil’ is doing staggering business. With its day one gross, the film has already crossed the lifetime collections of biggies like ‘Viswasam’, ‘Ner Konda Paarvai’, ‘Kaappaan’ and ‘NGK’. With ‘Petta’ collections within reach, ‘Bigil’ is most certain to become the highest Tamil grosser in GCC.

‘My Santa’ directed by Sugeeth is touted to be a full on fun entertainer. Debutant Jemin Cyriac has scripted the film which will also have a bunch of kids as part of the cast. Along with Dileep, the film also has Sunny Wayne in a major role. It is the first time Dileep and Sunny Wayne are acting together. Anusree plays the female lead.

‘My Santa’ has Faizal Ali as the cinematographer, Sajan as the editor and veteran Vidyasagar as the music director. It is the maiden venture of a newly launched production house, Wall Poster Entertainments. Scriptwriter Nishad Koya, Saritha Sugeeth, Ajeesh OK and Sandra Maria Jose are heading the banner. The film has been planned as a Christmas release.

Lal to star in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan

Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam is getting things ready for his dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. Casting and other pre-production works are nearing completion. The director’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production. Along with top actors from Tamil cinema, the film will also have several stars from other languages.

From Malayalam film industry, Jayaram is already confirmed in the cast. Latest to join the team is Lal. The veteran has acted in several Tamil films. He recently played a significant role in the multilingual Prabhas starrer ‘Saaho’. He is also part of the upcoming Dhanush film which will be directed by ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Mari Selvaraj.

Earlier in the day, Lal took to his official social media handle to share a photo taken with Mani Ratnam. He hinted about starring in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ by captioning,

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is actually a historical Tamil novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. In five volumes, or about 2400 pages, it tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I. Mani Ratnam is working on its screenplay adaptation with writers Siva Anand and Kumaravel.

Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Amitabh Bachchan, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Keerthy Suresh, Amala Paul and Sathyaraj are some of the actors who are said to be part of the film An official announcement with full details is expected to be made very soon.

Tovino Thomas joins Forensic team

Tovino Thomas’ new film ‘Forensic’ got launched Palakkad on October 24 but the actor joined the team only last day on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. The makers even had a brief cake cutting celebration at the sets. ‘Forensic’ is directed by ‘7th Day’ scriptwriter Akhil Paul Anas Khan. The two have also scripted this film based on some real life inspired events and Tovino reportedly plays a forensic officer in it.

Mamta Mohandas has been signed as the female lead and she will be joining the team shortly. The actress, who is known to be selective with her projects, will be sharing screen space with Tovino for the first time. Saiju Kurup, Giju John, Reba Monica John, Dhanesh Anand, Anil Murali and many others are also part of the supporting cast.

Cinematographer Akhil George, music director Jakes Bejoy, editor Shameer Muhammed, art director Dileepnath, costume designer Sameera Saneesh, action choreographer Rajashekar and sound designers Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar form the film’s core technical crew. It is being produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

Dulquer Salmaan and Vikram Prabhu have been close friends ever since their acting school days in Mumbai. They have often been spotted together in award functions and parties. It is being reported that the two actors are set to come together for a new film. Director duo JD and Jerry will be helming the film, which is rumoured to be a remake of their own 1997 hit film ‘Ullasam’. Ajith and Vikram played the lead roles in that film, which was produced by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

It is reported that in the remake, Vikram Prabhu will be reprising Ajith’s role while Dulquer will be essaying the part played by Vikram. There are also reports about writer Pattukottai Prabhakar scripting a fresh subject for the duo. An official word is still awaited in this regard.

Vijay’s ‘Bigil’ continues to dominate the box office. The film has taken an extraordinary opening at both the domestic and overseas centres. It has been widely reported that the film has grossed the Rs 100 crore mark in just two days. This is Vijay’s seventh worldview century grosser and a remarkable fifth in succession.

In Tamil Nadu alone, the film had grossed approximately Rs 26 cr, making it the second biggest opener in the state. Interestingly, all top three positions in the best openers in Tamil Nadu are held by Vijay films. ‘Sarkar’ leads the list with a gross of around 31 crores. ‘Mersal’ occupies third position in the list followed by ‘Kabali’ and ‘Viswasam’.

‘Whistle’, the Telugu version of ‘Bigil’, is also doing extremely well in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, and the film is nearing the break even status. In Kerala, ‘Bigil’ emerged as the second highest opener of the year with a gross of Rs 4.80 crore. It must be noted that ‘Bigil’ was a non-holiday release and in addition to that, the film was released in lesser number of centres (336 screens), due to the restriction enforced in Kerala for other language films.

Considering Vijay’s massive popularity and how well Atlee has packaged it to make it appealing to the family audience, ‘Bigil’ is expected to continue its phenomenal run in the coming days as well.
