Babu Antony to star alongside Akshay Kumar in Laaxmi Bomb

Recently, actor Babu Antony had revealed that he will be sharing screen space with Akshay Kumar in an upcoming film, but he didn’t divulge the details. It is now learnt that the two will be seen together in ‘Laaxmi Bomb’, which is the official remake of blockbuster Tamil film ‘Kanchana’ aka ‘Muni 2’.

Babu Antony played a brief-yet-crucial role in ‘Kanchana’. He will be reprising the same role in ‘Laaxmi Bomb’. This is his sixth film in Bollywood. He made his Hindi debut in 1988 with ‘Hathya’. ‘Ek Diwana Tha’, the remake of Gautham Menon’s blockbuster film ‘Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya’, was his last outing in Hindi.

‘Kanchana’, the second installment in the ‘Muni’ franchise, revolves around the series protagonist, Raghava, and a transgender ghost. The novel element of a transgender being shown in good light was the movie’s USP. Veteran actor Sarath Kumar’s stellar performance as the transgender got widespread appreciation.

Raghava Lawrence, who directed and starred in ‘Kanchana’, is helming the remake version as well. Writer-director Farhad Samji has adapted the script to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi audience. In the Hindi version, Akshay Kumar is reprising the role played by Raghava Lawrence. Kiara Advani is the female lead. The makers are yet to reveal who will be essaying the transgender part.

Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan to star in Vikram Vedha Hindi remake

‘Vikram Vedha’ is one of the most talked about Tamil movies in recent years. The movie starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles was a huge commercial success, while also garnering critical acclaim. Pushkar-Gayathri duo directed the movie and it was produced by Y Not Studios.

Ever since its release, there have been several reports about it getting remade in other languages. It was even reported that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his interest to remake the movie in Hindi. Venkatesh and Rana’s names were said for the Telugu version. However, nothing materialized.

Latest reports suggest that Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan have committed for the Hindi remake. Pushkar-Gayathri duo will be directing the remake version as well. It is being produced by director Neeraj Panday’s Plan C Studios and is currently in the pre-production stage. The makers are planning to start shooting by March 2020.

‘Vikram Vedha’ is inspired from the popular folklore Vikram Betal. The basic concept is borrowed from there and placed in an engaging cat and mouse game between a police officer and a gangster. Madhavan played the tough cop Vikram and Vijay Sethupathy essayed the role of Vedha, a gangster with grey shades. If reports are to be believed, Aamir Khan will reprise the role essayed by Vijay Sethupathi, while Saif will be playing the part done by Madhavan in the original.

Veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s comeback film ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ is all set to hit screens on August 15. A grand trailer launch event was held at Lulu Mall, Kochi. Superstar Mohanlal was the chief guest at the event. The trailer was also released online by Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj, Asif Ali, Dileep, Jayasurya, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas, Shane Nigam, Kalidas Jayaram, Manju Warrier, Antony Varghese, Fahadh Faasil, Vineeth Srinivasan, Vinayakan, Murali Gopy, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anoop Menon, Soubin Shahir, Unni Mukundan, Indrajith Sukumaran, Vinay Forrt, Aju Varghese, Dileesh Pothan, Kunchacko Boban, Biju Menon and Nimisha Sajayan through their respective social media handles.

‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ has Joju George, Nyla Usha and Chemban Vinod Jose playing the titular roles. The movie scripted by Abilash N Chandran is a Thrissur based mass entertainer that is set in the 80s.

Ajai David Kachappilly has cranked the camera and music is by Jakes Bejoy. Shyam Sasidharan has done the edits. Rejimon is producing the movie under the banner of Keerthy Movies.

Jayasurya to start shooting from Sathyan biopic from next year

Recently, on the 48th death anniversary of legendary Malayalam actor Sathyan, his biopic was officially announced. Jayasurya will be playing Sathyan’s role in the film and it will be directed by debutant Ratheesh Reghunandan. The director has also penned the script jointly with BT Anil Kumar and KG Santhosh. Vijay Babu of Friday Film House is producing the movie.

Sathyan biopic will go on floors only by next year. Script works have already been completed and Jayasurya will start prepping up for the role once he is done with his ongoing commitments. Sathyan, popularly known as Sathyan Master, was one of the first major star actors in Malayalam cinema.

At a time when acting was extremely dramatic, Sathyan was famous for his realistic style of performance. A recipient of two Kerala State awards, Sathyan has acted in over 100 films between 1951 and 1971. Before becoming an actor, he was a school teacher, an army man and also a police officer.

It will be really interesting to see how a versatile actor like Jayasurya brings life to Sathyan’s character.
It must be remembered that, last year, the actor had starred in the biopic of late Indian footballer VP Sathyan. Besides that, he is also acting in the biopic of ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan. VK Prakash will be directing the film, which has been titled as Rama Sethu.

His debut film ‘I.D’ was a widely acclaimed work that went on to be screened at various international film festivals across the world, which includes Busan International Film Festival, Abu Dhabi Film Festival, International Film Festival of India (IFFI), International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Deauville Asian Film Festival.

‘Pada’, scripted by Kamal himself, is based on a real life incident that occured in Kerala during the 90s. The movie has cinematography by Sameer Thahir. It is expected to be hit screens by the end of this year itself.

After ‘Nerkonda Paaravai’ Ajith and director H Vinoth are set to team up once again. Bollywood based producer Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios are jointly producing the movie, which is tentatively titled as ‘Thala 60’. The makers have announced that shoot will begin by the end of August.

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, will be making her Tamil debut with this movie. Janhvi made her acting debut lats year with ‘Dhadak’, and her performance was noted. She is also part of Karan Johar’s upcoming multi-starrer ‘Takht’, in which she will be sharing screen space with Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor.

It is reported that Janhvi will be playing a very important character in ‘Thala 60’. While ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ was a remake, H Vinoth’s new film with Ajith will have a fresh subject. It is said to be planned as an action packed thriller. Reports suggest that Ajith plays a bike racer in the film. More details are expected to be officially announced shortly.

B Unnikrishnan’s RD Illuminations to release Saaho in Kerala

Prabhas’ much-hyped mega budget film ‘Saaho’ is getting a grand worldwide release on August 30. The movie directed by Sujeeth is an action packed thriller made on an international scale. It is being made on a whopping budget of around Rs 300 crores. Though the release was initially scheduled for August 15, the date had to be pushed as the post-production works got delayed and the makers were not willing to compromise on any aspect.

‘Saaho’ will be released in Kerala by director B Unnikrishnan’s distribution firm, RD Illuminations. Prabhas will also be coming to Kerala for the movie’s promotions. The director took to his Twitter handle to share the news. His tweet reads,

Saaho, the most expensive film from the south, is distributed in Kerala by my firm, RD Illuminations. It comes to you on 30th of August. Its action sequences are just mind-boggling. Prabhas will be in Kerala soon for promotions.

‘Saaho’ is planned as a multi-lingual film. It is releasing in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages. To give a pan Indian appeal, the movie has actors from various languages as part of its cast. Shradhha Kapoor is paired with Prabhas. Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal, Vennela Kishore and Tinnu Anand are playing other prominent roles.

Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly producing ‘Saaho’ under the banner of UV Creations.

Recently, it was announced that Vikram will be teaming up with director Ajay Gnanamuthu for his next. 7 Screen Studio and Viacom 18 Studios are jointly producing the movie, which is yet to be titled. The makers had also roped in maestro AR Rahman to compose music for the movie. There is a buzz going around that Vikram will be sporting 25 different looks in the film.

Besides his amazing acting skills, Vikram is known for penchant for experimenting with his looks and physique. If the news turns out to be true, he will probably be the first actor in the world to experiment so many looks in a single film. A US based company is reportedly working on the actor’s looks. Interestingly, the film’s first look poster also had Vikram sporting different get-ups.

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu is a former associate of AR Murugadoss. He has previously helmed two hit films – ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’. The latter starring Nayanthara, Anurag Kashyap and Atharvaa Murali was a big success at the box office. His new film film with Vikram is also said to be a thriller on the lines of ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’.

Priya Bhavani Shankar is in talks for the female lead. Shoot is expected to begin later this month and it is scheduled to release in April, next year.

‘Helen’ stars Anna in the titular role and the first look features her in a waitress’ attire. Noble Babu Thomas, one of the script writers of the film is playing the male lead. He was also one of the producers of ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’, which was directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan.

‘Helen’ also has Aju Varghese, Lal Paul, Rony David Raj and a bunch of newcomers as part of the cast. The movie will have cinematography by Anend C Chandran of ‘Premam’ fame and music by Shaan Rahman, who is a regular in Vineeth’s films. Shameer Muhammed has been assigned as the editor.
