Karan Johar acquires Dear Comrade remake rights even before its theatrical release

Vijay Deverakonda starrer ‘Dear Comrade’ is gearing up for worldwide release on July 26. The movie written and directed by Bharat Kamma promises to an intense romantic film. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead. The movie is releasing simultaneously in three languages – Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Interestingly, Bollywood’s leading producer-filmmaker Karan Johar has acquired the Hindi remake rights of ‘Dear Comrade’. Last day, he had a special screening of the movie and it seems like he was highly impressed by it. Though the cast of the Hindi version has not been announced, it is expected that this might be Vijay Deverakonda’s Bollywood debut.

Along with sharing photos taken with ‘Dear Comrade’ team, Karan Johar has tweeted,

Watch the trailer of Kangana Ranaut-Rajkummar Rao starrer Judgemental Hai Kya

‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao is gearing up to hit screens worldwide this Friday (July 26). The movie’s official trailer was launched earlier this month and has fetched over 20 million views in YouTube. Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, the movie looks like a quirky psychological black comedy. It comes with the tagline ‘One Mystery. Two Suspects’.

Apparently, Kangana and Rajkummar play two prime suspects in a murder mystery case. Kanika Dhillon has scripted the movie as a thrilling cat and mouse game in which the two lead characters try to outsmart each other. Jimmy Sheirgill, Amyra Dastur, Brijendra Kala, Sudev Nair, Satish Kaushik, Mimoh Chakraborty, Rajesh Jais, Hrishitaa Bhatt and Hussain Dalal are also part of the supporting cast.

Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Shaailesh R Singh are jointly producing the movie for Balaji Motion Pictures, Karma Media and Entertainment and ALT Entertainment. It will be distributed in Kerala by Movie Factory.

‘Darbar’ has Nayanathara as the female lead. Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has been cast as the villain. Prateik Babbar plays Suniel Shetty’s son in the movie. Nivetha Thomas, Sriman, Yogi Babu and many others are part of the cast. The movie also has a solid technical crew headlined by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan, composer Anirudh Ravichander and veteran editor Sreekar Prasad. Ram-Laxman duo is choreographing the stunts.

Lyca Productions is producing ‘Darbar’, which has been scheduled for a Pongal release, next January.

As informed earlier, the first single from Vijay’s upcoming movie ‘Bigil’ has been released online. The track titled as ‘Singappenney’ is penned by Vivek and composed by maestro AR Rahman. It is an inspirational kind of song that the makers have dedicated to all the daughters of the country.

‘Bigil’ directed by Atlee is a mass entertainer with woman’s football at its crux. The movie has Vijay dual playing a dual role as a gangster father and his son, who is a footballer-turned-coach. Nayanthara is paired with Vijay in the movie. Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Induja, Varsha Bollamma, Reba Monica John, Daniel Balaji and Anand Raj will be seen in supporting roles.

AR Rahman has scored music for the movie, cinematography is by ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu and edits are handled by Ruben. ‘Bigil’, produced by AGS Entertainment, is scheduled for a grand Diwali release in October.

The movie’s trailer was released just a while back in social medias.

‘Jackpot’ stars Revathy and Jyotika in major roles. Yogi Babu, Motta Rajendran, Mansoor Ali Khan, Anand Raj and many others are also part of the supporting cast. The movie is written and directed by Kalyaan. It is produced by Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment.

From the trailer, the movie looks like an out and out commercial entertainer with fun, colourful songs and action. As seen in the trailer, Jyotika has done some gravity defying stunts in the movie. Vishql Chandrashekhar has handled the music department and cinematography is by Anand Kumar.

Vikram reveals his plans to turn a director

Vikram was recently in Kerala as part of promotions of his recent release ‘Kadaram Kondan’. During a casual interview, the actor was asked if he had any plans to direct a film. Vikram confirmed that he definitely wants to direct a film but is unsure about when he would be able to do that. He also added that he would not be acting in his own directorial venture as it takes huge efforts to direct a film, and hence it’s impossible to multitask.

When asked if he has any particular actor in mind for his maiden film, Vikram said that his first film might be a small one with a bunch of newcomers. He wishes to direct a few films and gain the confidence before casting his son Dhruv in his film. Dhruv is currently awaiting the release of his debut film ‘Aditya Varma’, which is the Tamil remake of ‘Arjun Reddy’. Interestingly, Vikram was part of that film as the creative director.

On the acting front, Vikram has Ajay Gnanamuthu’s new film, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvam and ‘Mahavir Karna’ coming up. He is also in talks for a Malayalam film, but didn’t divulge any further details.

Jayasurya to star in E Sreedharan biopic titled as Rama Sethu

Of late, Jayasurya has been more interested in doing biopics and films based on real life characters. He has already starred in footballer VP Sathyan’s biopic ‘Captain’, for which he won the Kerala State Award. He also has late actor Sathyan’s biopic coming up. Jayasurya has now signed yet another biopic. He will be playing E Sreedharan in his biopic which has been titled as ‘Rama Sethu’. It comes with the tagline ‘A Bridge between God and Society’. VK Prakash will be directing the movie and it is scripted by S Suresh Babu.

E Sreedharan, popularly known as ‘Metro Man’ is credited for changing the face of public transport in India. He is well known for his efficient leadership in building the Konkan Railway, Delhi Metro and Kerala’s own Kochi Metro.

Interestingly, scriptwriter Suresh Babu had initially planned another film titled ‘Arabi Kadalinte Rani – The Metro Woman’ with Rima Kallingal as the lead. It was about Lalitha, an ordinary textile worker, her admiration for E Sreedharan and her attempts to meet him. M Padmakumar was supposed to direct the film but it got dropped.

Suresh Babu has now adapted the screenplay to develop it as a full fledged biopic. The focus will be on Sreedharan’s professional journey and since it is a biopic, the movie will traverse multiple timelines. Jayasurya will be portraying his life from the age of early 30s to 80s. The story will be told from the perspective of two characters – Uthaman, a railway canteen employee, and his daughter Lathika, the same old textile worker. The story will explore how Sreedharan inspired Uthaman and his family.

Arun Narayan is producing the movie. The makers have roped in veteran Ravi K Chandran to wield the camera. More details regarding the entire cast, technical crew and when shoot begins is expected to be revealed soon.

Mohanlal’s ‘Ittymaani Made in China’ is currently in the final stages of shoot. The team had recently travelled to China for a brief leg of shoot. In the China schedule, Mohanlal was seen sporting a typical Chinese look that resembled a martial artist. While speculations about a dual role had already surfaced online, the makers have now confirmed it.

Mohanlal plays a father-son duo in the movie. The son character Ittymaani is a caterer by profession. He owns the company, Ittymaani Catering Service based in Thrissur. Honey Rose plays his romantic interest. She essays the role of a nurse based in London. ‘Joseph’ fame Madhuri Braganza is paired with the father character.

‘Ittymaani Made In China’ directed by debutant duo Jibi and Joju is touted to be a fun-filled entertainer. Radikaa Sarath Kumar, Siddique, Vinu Mohan, Aju Varghese, Kailas, Johny Antony, Hareesh Kanaran, Salim Kumar, Sijoy Varghese, Nandu, Aristo Suresh, Swasika and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. It is slated for a grand release during the Onam season in September.

It is being widely reported that legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is getting a multilingual biopic. Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi is said to be in talks for the movie. As per these reports, the movie has been titled as ‘800’ and Sethupathi will essay the role of the legendary Murali. It has been planned as a big-budget project shot across India, England, Srilanka and a couple of other countries. Several reports suggest that shooting will begin in December. However, an official confirmation from Vijay Sethupathi’s side is still awaited.

Muralitharan is unarguably one of the greatest spinners to have played the game of cricket. Muralitharan made his debut in 1992 and played for Sri Lanka till 2011. He held the number one spot in the ICC player rankings for Test bowlers for a record period of 1,711 days spanning 214 Test matches. He also holds the world record for the most number of wickets in both test (800) and one-day cricket (534). A Tamilian by birth, Murali was born and brought up in Sri Lanka. His wife is also a Tamilian.
