National award winning Tamil filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy heaps praise on And The Oskar Goes To

Tovino’s ‘And The Oskar Goes To’ (ATOGT) has entered its third week of theatrical run in the Kerala box office. The movie continues to do pretty good business courtesy the positive word of mouth. Besides the common audience, even celebrities like Basil Joseph, Ranjith Sankar, Madhupal and Shahabaz Aman had showered good words on the movie and its makers.

Recently, National award winning Tamil filmmaker Shahabaz Aman got to watch the movie and was highly impressed by it. In a brief tweet, he called it a brilliant and soul stirring film. He also congratulated the team for the success.

‘And The Oskar Goe To’ directed by Salim Ahamed tells the story of a film taking its maker to the Oscars. It is one of those films that is instantly relatable to the all those who have a passion for the art of filmmaking. Salim Ahamed scripted the movie partly based on his own experiences and some other real life filmmakers. Unlike his earlier films, ‘ATOGT’ has a more commercial touch to it, major credits of which should rightfully go to its charming lead actor, Tovino Thomas. His performance in the movie has been rated by many as one of his career best.

MG Sreekumar to play the lead in Shyamaprasad’s new film

Popular playback singer MG Sreekumar is set star in ace filmmaker Shyamaprasad’s new film. As per reports, it is a story about a 60-year-old singer and Sreekumar will be playing the lead role in it. Apparently, the movie is inspired from several of his own real life experiences. A two-time National award winning singer and music director, Sreekumar has sung in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films.

Being in front of camera is not knew for Sreekumar as he has been doing several TV shows over the years. Two years back, the veteran singer had also acted as in a short film named ‘M N Nambyiark Balan K Nairil Sambhavichath’. Apart from the Shyamaprasad film, Sreekumar is also starring in Kukku Surendran’s next film, ‘Ente Sathyanveshna Pareekshanangal’. It is being scripted by Shanker Ramakrishnan.

On the singing front, MG Sreekumar has lent his voice for a couple of tracks in the upcoming biggies ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ and ‘Marakkar Arabikadlinte Simham’.

Venu, Aashiq Abu, Rajeev Ravi and Jay R Krishnan team up for an anthology

Malayalam cinema has had very few anthology films. ‘Kerala Cafe’ and ‘5 Sundarikal’ are undoubtedly the two most popular among them. Now we hear that another promising anthology film is currently under production. Directors Venu, Rajeev Ravi, Aashiq Abu and ‘Ezra’ fame Jay R Krishnan are helming the flick. Nothing much is known about the project, which includes its theme or cast and crew. The makers have so far been tight-lipped, but an official announcement is expected to be made soon.

Besides this anthology, Rajeev Ravi is currently working on another project as well. Titled as ‘Thuramukham’, the movie stars Nivin Pauly, Biju Menon, Indrajith Sukumaran, Poornima Indrajith and Nimisha Sajayan. Shoot is currently progressing for the movie, which is slated for release by the end of this year.

Aashiq Abu, after the multi-starrer ‘Virus’, is set to direct a film with Soubin Shahir next. Unni R is scripting the movie, which is said to be a fantasy flick. Jay R Krishnan meanwhile is set to remake his own ‘Ezra’ in Hindi with Emraan Hashmi.
After the multiple State award winning ‘Carbon’, director Venu is yet to announce his new project.

The official trailer of Bollywood’s upcoming space film ‘Mission Mangal’ has just been released. The movie directed by Jagan Shakti is about Mangalyaan, India’s first interplanetary mission to reach the Mars orbit. There is a star-studded cast in the film lead by Akshay Kumar. Vidya Balan, Nithya Menen, Tapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi and ‘Pink’ fame Kirti Kulhari will be seen in other prominent roles.

As per the makers, ‘Mission Mangal’ is the incredible, true story of a scientist, Rakesh Dhawan, played by Akshay Kumar and Tara Shinde, played by Vidya Balan, who lead a motley team of scientists who overcame their personal challenges and failures to serve as the brains behind one of the greatest missions in history: the launch of India’s first satellite to Mars, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence.

The technical crew of ‘Mission Mangal’ comprises of Ravi Varman as the cinematographer and Amit Trivedi as the composer. Chandan Arora is in charge of the edits. Fox Star Studios, Hope Productions and Cape Of Good Films are jointly funding this movie, which is slated to hit screens worldwide for Independence Day on August 15.

‘Ittymaani Made In China’ is directed by debutant duo Jibi and Joju. The movie has Mohanlal as Ittymaani, who is a caterer by profession. He owns the company, Ittymaani Catering Service. Honey Rose plays the female in the movie. Radikaa Sarath Kumar, Siddique, ‘Joseph’ fame Madhuri Braganza, Vinu Mohan, Aju Varghese, Kailas, Aju Varghese, Johny Antony, Hareesh Kanaran, Salim Kumar, Sijoy Varghese, Nandu and Swasika are also part of the supporting cast.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. It is slated for a grand release during the Onam season in September.

Take Off director Mahesh Narayanan next with Fahadh Faasil and Parvathy titled as Malik?

As we already know, director Mahesh Narayanan’s next is with Fahadh Faasil and Parvathy in the lead roles. Anto Joseph is producing the film, which is expected to go on floors shortly. Though a formal announcement has not yet been made, it is reported that the movie has been titled as ‘Malik’. Details regarding its genre and other cast and crew members are not yet known.

Mahesh Narayanan, an editor-turned-filmmaker, made his directorial debut in 2016 with ‘Take Off’. It was a real-life inspired film about a group of Malayali nurses held captive in the Tikrit region in Iraq. The movie emerged as a big success and won bagged several awards at the state and national level, including a special jury award for the director at the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI, Goa).

Both Fahadh Faasil and Parvathy were part of ‘Take Off’ and their performances were well received. The latter even won a National award for her performance in the film.

Shanker Ramakrishnan’s directorial debut ‘Pathinettam Padi’ had hit screens last Friday (July 5). Though the movie has opened to mixed reviews, theatres are showing pretty good occupancy. Recently, actress Sayyeshaa, wife of Arya, who is also appearing in a cameo in the movie, had watched it and wrote about it on her Twitter handle. Sayyeshaa particularly mentioned about Mammootty’s stylish look in the movie. Her tweet reads,

‘Pathinettam Padi’ is basically the story about the rivalry between a bunch of teenagers from two different schools. While the technical side and performances of the newcomers are being appreciated, criticism is largely about the inconsistent screenplay and the overdose of dramatic dialogues. The cameo appearances by Prithviraj, Unni Mukundan, Arya and Mammootty has given the movie its much needed publicity among the common audience.

Ambaram: Here’s a new song from Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo

As ‘Sathyam Paranja Vishwasikuo’ gears up for release this Friday (July 12), the makers have released a new song online. The track titled ‘Ambaram’ is rendered by KS Harisankar and composed by Viswajith. Sujesh Hari has penned the lyrics.

The movie directed by G Prajith has Biju Menon and Samvritha Sunil in the lead roles. It is scripted by National award winner Sajeev Pazhoor, who had earlier penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. Biju Menon plays the role of a mason in the movie, which is said to be a realistic family drama.

The cast also includes Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhi Koppa, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Saiju Kurup, Srikanth Murali, Bhagath Manuel, Sreelekshmi, Sruthy Jayan and many others. Cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, veteran editor Ranjan Abraham and music directors Shaan Rahman and Bijibal (background score) form the movie’s core technical crew.

Rama Devi of Green TV Entertainer is producing it jointly with Sandip Senan and Anish M Thomas of Urvasi Pictures.

Recently, there were reports about Suraj Venjaramoodu and Soubin Shahir coming together for a new movie. Titled as ‘Vikrithi’, the movie’s first look poster was unveiled just a while back in social medias. The first look poster features both the lead actors, Suraj and Soubin Shahir.

Emcy Joseph aka MC Joseph is directing the movie. It is being produced by A D Sreekumar, Ganesh Menon and Lakshmi Warrier under the banner Cut 2 Create Pictures. ‘Vikrithi’ will have cinematography by Any, music composed by Bijibal and edits handled by Ayoob Khan. Century Films will be presenting the movie. Other details regarding the supporting cast and when shoot commences are not yet known. An official word regarding the same is expected to be made shortly.

Last month, he had also finished his portions for Santosh Sivan’s ‘Jack and Jill’. ‘Ambili’ with John Paul George, ‘Jinn’ with Siddharth Bharathan, ‘Joothan’ with Bharathan and an untitled film with Aashiq Abu are his other projects in the pipeline.

Vijay-Atlee team’s ‘Bigil’ is easily the most anticipated Tamil film of this year. It has the star playing a dual role as a gangster father and his football player son. It promises to be an action-packed mass entertainer with women’s football at its crux. The movie has quite a big star cast. Nayanthara is paired with Vijay.
