After Anu Sithara, Kaniha also joins Maamaankam team

‘Maamaankam’ shoot is progressing with the new director M Padmakumar calling the shots. After the controversial ousting of the movie’s original director Sajeev Pillai, the makers have gone for a complete overhaul on the cast and crew. Unni Mukundan replaced Druvan and Anu Sithara was signed as one of the female leads. Latest addition to the cast is Kaniha. The actress shared the big news recently through her official social media handle.

‘Maamaankam’ is an epic big-scale film that is based on the medieval fair, Maamaankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays the lead role of a ferocious ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Initially, Bollywood actress Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and former Miss Tamil Nadu Abhirami V Iyer were roped in to play the female leads.

However, following the fall out between director Sajeev Pillai and the production team, the makers opted for an all Malayalam cast. Anu Sithara, Kaniha and a couple of other heroines are also expected to be part of the movie. Anu Sithara has previously worked with Mammootty in ‘Oru Kuttanadan Blog’ while Kaniha has the experience of sharing screen space with the megastar in another period film, ‘Pazhassiraja’.

Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing ‘Maamaankam’. As per the makers, shoot will be wrapped up by the first half of the year and the release is scheduled for year end.

Malarvadi Arts Club boys reunite after 9 years for Love Action Drama

It was nine years back when Vineeth Sreenivasan, who was establishing himself as a playback singer then, decided to wear the director’s hat. His debut movie ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’ had a bunch of newcomers in the lead roles. Some of them went on to successfully carve a niche for themselves in the industry. Fast forward nine years, when Vineeth’s brother Dhyan Sreenivasan occupies the director’s chair for his debut movie ‘Love Action Drama’, the boys from Malarvadi are also back.

Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Bhagath Manuel, Deepak Parambol, Nandan Unni and Harikrishnan, who were all part of ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’ will next be seen together in ‘Love Action Drama’. Nivin plays the lead role in the movie which has Nayanthara paired opposite him. Aju apart from playing a key role is also venturing into production with this movie.

‘Love Action Drama’ (LAD) is an interesting film for some other reasons as well. The movie is said to be a modern day take on the yesteryear hit film ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’, directed by Dhyan’s father, Sreenivasan. As a shout-out to that film, the lead characters in LAD are also named as Dineshan and Shobha. All these factors increase the expectations for LAD. Shoot is currently progressing at a brisk pace. It is scheduled for release in September during the Onam season.

Vijay Babu officially announces Aadu 3

Midhun Manuel Thomas’ Aadu franchise enjoys popularity among the masses, especially the youth. It’s the best and most recent example from Malayalam cinema to show how a movie or its characters attain a cult status. It goes without saying that memes, troll pages, dubsmash and tik tok videos have played a major role in keeping the quirky characters alive. While the part of the movie was a commercial failure, the second part emerged as a huge blockbuster. Inspired by its success, the makers have officially announced a third part to the series.

Today, February 6, marks the third anniversary of the release of the first part, ‘Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu’. Producer Vijay Babu of Friday Film House took this occasion to officially announce the third installment through his social media handle. Other details regarding when shoot commences will be revealed shortly.

Earlier in an interview, Vijay Babu had hinted about his plans to make the third part in 3D format. Though it has not yet been confirmed, it will be massive if the makers can successfully pull of such an innovative idea. Kids, who already are great fans of Shaji Pappan and co, can easily be attracted by the idea of a 3D film. Such is the popularity of series that many social media users have been requesting the makers to attempt a spin-off on each character.

‘Aadu’ is probably the only movie in Malayalam cinema, and among the very few in world cinema to have a second part for a failed movie. Upon its theatrical release in 2015, the first part tanked at the box office. But it gained popularity soon after the DVD release. The team rectified all their mistakes from the first part and delivered ‘Aadu 2’ as a much better entertaining mass action-comedy. Releasing for 2017 Christmas, the movie set the box office on fire thereby emerging as one of the top grossers of the year.
The makers will be hoping to repeat the same with the third part as well.
