I wouldn’t have made Peranbu if not for Mammootty: Director Ram

Last day, Mammootty starrer ‘Peranbu’ had its Indian premiere at the 49th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. The movie was screened at INOX – II for a packed audience and received fabulous response with a standing ovation at the end. Director Ram, producer PL Thenappan and actress Sadhana were honoured by the organizers. Ram also interacted with the audience after the movie and answered their questions.

While talking at the event, Ram was asked about why he chose to cast Mammootty in the movie. The director said that he grew up watching Mammootty’s films like ‘Sukritham’, ‘Amaram’ and ‘Mrugaya’. While working on this movie’s subject, he knew that the lead actor has to be someone who could bear the burden of pain convincingly and he had no other option than Mammootty.

Interestingly, Ram said that he wouldn’t have made ‘Peranbu’ if Mammootty had not signed the film. When he pitched the film to the actor, he didn’t have a proper full feldged script. Ram explained the idea briefly to Mammootty and said that he would start working on the screenplay only if the veteran agrees to be part of the movie. Impressed by Ram’s narration, Mammootty gave a nod immediately.

‘Peranbu’ tells the poignant story of a doting father and his mentally affected girl child. Those who watched the movie at the various festivals have been raving about the performances of Mammootty and Sadhana. Both the actors are expected to bag quite a few awards for the movie.

Since ‘Peranbu’ had gained international acclaim after its screening at the Rotterdam festival and Shanghai festival, there was huge rush for the movie at IFFI last day. As a large section of attendees felt disappointed on missing out the movie, the organizers are planning for a rescreening on November 27. An official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited. The movie’s makers have also not announced the theatrical release date.

Viswasam motion poster: Ajith thrills fans with his two mass avatars!

As we already know, Thala Ajith’s Viswasam is scheduled for Pongal release, next January. Fans were unhappy with the makers for not releasing timely updates. To please them, a motion poster was released last day without any prior announcement. It features Ajith in a dual look – a black-haired young look and another in his trademark salt and pepper look. From the look of things, the movie looks like a typical rural colourful mass entertainer.

Viswasam directed by Siva marks his fourth outing with Ajith. They had earlier worked together in Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. While Veeram and Vedhalam were regular mass entertainers, Vivegam was an ambitious attempt in making a spy-thriller. The movie made on a lavish budget with a big star cast failed to impress the audience and ended up as a disappointing affair at the box office. The actor-director will be hoping to comeback to winning ways with Viswasam.

Viswasam has Nayanthara as female lead. Other supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Vivek, Jagapathi Babu, Ravia Wana, Anikha, Thambi Ramaiah, Bose Venkat, Robo Shankar and Kovai Sarala. In the technical crew includes DOP Vetri, music director D Imman, stunt choreographer Dilip Subbarayan and editor Ruben. Sathya Jyothi Films is funding the movie.

Unni Mukundan plays a full-length role alongside Nivin Pauly in ‘Mikhael’

As we already know, Nivin Pauly and Unni Mukundan are coming together for the Haneef Adeni directorial, ‘Mikhael’. While Nivin plays the lead role, the makers have been tight-lipped about Unni Mukundan’s role, which has naturally raised the curiosity. Speculations are rife that he is essaying a negative role. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that his character in the movie is named Marco Jr and it’s a full length role. The actor sounded quite excited about being part of the movie.

About working with Nivin, Unni is quoted saying, “He’s a good friend and it’s great to work with him in a role that is there throughout the film.” The two actors have earlier shared screen space in Lal Jose’s ‘Vikramadithyan’, where Nivin did a guest role.

‘Mikhael’ is a highly anticipated movie as Haneef Adeni’s earlier two works, ‘The Great Father’ and ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’, were hugely successful at the box office. The director is noted for his stylish filmmaking and from the promos ‘Mikhael’ also promises to be on similar lines.

The movie, according to the makers, is a family-oriented thriller. Nivin plays a doctor in the movie. Manjima Mohan, JD Chakravarthy, Siddique, Renji Panicker, Ashokan, Shanthi Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajon and KPAC Lalitha are also part of the cast. Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his banner Anto Joseph Film Company. It is expected to hit screens early next year.
