Mammootty’s Uncle opens to highly positive reviews!

Mammootty starrer Uncle has hit screens today (April 27) amidst high expectations courtesy the impressive promo videos. Early reports after the first show suggest that the movie has lived up to the hype. Mammootty’s splendid performance has already become a talking point in social medias. General opinion is that Uncle is a very relevant film that mirrors at the socio-political issues prevalent in the society today.

Uncle tells the story of a teenage girl and her father’s friend. ‘CIA’ fame Karthika Muraleedharan and Mammootty play these two lead roles in the movie. Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and Padmakumar, is making his directorial debut with Uncle. The movie is scripted by actor Joy Mathew; it is his second outing as a scriptwriter after the critically acclaimed ‘Shutter’.

Uncle’s core plot is set in the journey of Mammootty’s character Krishnakumar aka KK from Ooty to Kozhikode. KK, a Mumbai based businessman, is accompanied by his friend’s daughter in this trip. It is about an unusual situation a middle class family is made to face. The social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in the movie.

Uncle is expected to be the much needed break for Mammootty whose last few outings have failed to impress the critics. The actor has not played such a performance-oriented character in recent times. Uncle also stars Joy Mathew Ganapathi, Suresh Krishna, KPAC Lalitha and Muthumani in supporting roles.

Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films.

Kammara Sambhavam continues to do good business at the box office. Releasing amidst tremendous hype, the movie opened to mixed reviews but soon catched up as the viewers started comprehending the mix genre attempt. The movie directed by Rathish Ambat is a first of its kind in Malayalam cinema. Murali Gopy has scripted this movie which has various shades like fiction, period elements, satire and black humour.

Last day, the making video of the movie was released in social medias. This four minute long video speaks volumes about the kind of efforts the team members have put in for the movie. Evidently, it is made on a massive scale and high production values. Huge sets, hundreds of technicians and junior artists are involved in the making. The strenuous process behind the prosthetic for Dileep’s 90-year-look is also shown in the video.

Kammara Sambhavam is an epic film set in three different timelines. It focuses on historical accounts and how it is depicted by the ones who wrote it. Dileep, Siddharth, Namita Pramod and Murali Gopy play major roles in the movie. Performance wise, Dileep has arguably given his career best act.

Bobby Simha, Shwetha Menon, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans and Siddique are also part of the supporting cast. Sunil KS has cranked the camera and edits are handled by Suresh Urs. Gopi Sunder has composed the music for the movie.

Gokulam Gopalan is producing Kammara Sambhavam under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

Director AL Vijay’s Diya (title changed from Karu) is releasing today. The movie starring Sai Pallavi and Naga Shourya is made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu (titled Kanam). Like his previous films, AL Vijay has tried a different genre with this film, a horror drama that explores the relationship between a mother and her four-year-old daughter.

During the promotions of Diya, AL Vijay recently revealed that he has a subject ready for the sequel of Thalaivaa, a mass entertainer he did with Vijay in 2013. Thalaivaa is one of the most unforgettable movies in Vijay’s careers, not because it was such a big hit, but the problems that it had to endure prior to its release. Due to various issues from political groups, the movie had its release in Tamil Nadu only two weeks after it hit screens worldwide.

Thalaivaa told the story of a Australia-based dancer who due to circumstances is forced to takes over his father’s duty as the leader of scores of Tamils living in Mumbai. AL Vijay in the interview said that he has a a storyline ready for the sequel and is confident of doing it someday. Apparently, the director has discussed the ideal of a sequel with Vijay and he is hopeful that it will materialize someday.

Vijay meanwhile is busy shooting for his upcoming movie with director AR Murugadoss. He is also in talks with directors like Atlee, Mohan Raja and ‘Theeran’ fame H Vinoth for his future projects. On the other hand, director AL Vijay is currently working on Lakshmi, a dance film starring Prabhu Deva, Aishwarya Rajesh and Ditya Bhande.

Chiranjeevi, Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Jagapathi Babu and Sudeep form the movie’s stellar star cast. While Chiranjeevi plays Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy’s role, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in a cameo role as his mentor. Vijay Setupathi, who is making his Telugu debut, plays the role of Obbaya, a trusted aide of Narasimha Reddy.

Besides these aforementioned movies, Vijay Sethupathi also has Junga, Seethkathi, 96, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and Super Deluxe coming up.

It’s a busy day in Kerala Box Office as three movies are releasing today (April 27) – Uncle, Aravindante Athidhikal and Thobama. All three movies are hitting screens amidst a positive buzz created by their promising promos. Actor Nivin Pauly took to his official social media handle to wish luck for all the three movies. His post reads,

Mammootty starrer Uncle is the most exciting among the three releases. Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of M Padmakumar and Ranjith, is making his directorial debut with this movie. It is Joy Mathew’s second outing as a scriptwriter after the widely acclaimed Shutter. Mammootty plays a grey shaded role in the movie which revolves around the events occurring during journey of a teenage girl with her father’s friend.

Aravindante Athidhikal is Vineeth Sreenivasan’s latest outing as a lead actor. M Mohanan, who has delivered hit films like like Katha Parayumbol and Manikyakallu is directing this movie. It promises to be a quality feel-good entertainer for the families who throng theatres in large numbers during this holiday season. Sreenivasan, Uravshi, Nikhila Vimal, Shanthi Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Aju Varghese and many others are also part of the cast.

Thobama is perhaps the most close-to-heart film of Nivin Pauly as it comes from his close bunch of friends. Director Alphonse Puthren is venturing into production by funding this movie. Debutant Mohsin Khan is directing this movie which has the ‘Premam’ trio of Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar and Sharafudheen in the lead roles. From the promos, the movie looks like a youthful fun entertainer.

Post-production works for Mohanlal’s Neerali is progressing at a brisk pace as the movie is gearing up for a grand Eid release in June. Last day, the makers posted photos from a musical session with the famous drummer Sivamani, in their official social media handle. Mohanlal, MG Sreekumar and composer Stephen Devassy are also there to be seen in the photos.

Looks like Stephen Devassy’s Neerali album will be a treat for the music lovers. Earlier, he had recorded a duet song rendered by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohanlal. The latter is singing in a movie after around five years, so expectations are high among the fans.

Neerali directed by Ajoy Varma has Mohanlal playing Sunny George, a gemologist. Nadhiya Moidu, who is making a comeback to Malayalam after a long gap, is playing his wife’s role in the movie. The cast also includes, Parvatii Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothan, Sai Kumar, Megha Mathew and Nasser.

Newcomer Saju Thomas has scripted this movie as an action-packed adventure thriller. The movie has been in the post-production phase for sometime now. Since it is an adventure thriller, the movie has a lot of VFX involved and the makers have signed one of India’s leading VFX companies to handle the same. According to our sources close to the unit, Neerali will have the best quality visual effects that Malayalam cinema has ever seen.

Neerali’s technical crew is mostly from Bollywood. Santhosh Thundiyil, noted for his works in several Hindi films has cranked the camera in Neerali. Director Ajoy Varma himself is editing the movie and Stephen Devassy is handling the music department.

The movie is produced by Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment, and co-produced by John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikdan.

Debutant Tinu Pappachan’s jail-break thriller Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil continues to do good business at the box office. The movie released on March 31 stood firm amidst the slew of Vishu releases and is still running successfully. As we had reported earlier, the movie is also getting a Tamil version. Actor Jiiva has been signed to reprise the lead role played by Antony in the original. Reportedly, Tinu Pappachan himself will be directing the movie in Tamil.

We also hear that Tinu Pappachan is planning to do a movie with Prithviraj and Antony Varghese as the leads. It is said to be a mass masala entertainer but other details are not yet known. Talks are still in the early stages and an official word is expected to be made in the coming weeks. From the outset, the project looks very exciting. Let’s wait for a confirmation from the makers side.

Meanwhile, both Prithviraj and Antony are busy with their respective commitments. The former is currently in Himalayas shooting for his ambitious sci-fi thriller Nine, which also marks his maiden production venture. He will also be starting works for his directorial debut Lucifer, which has superstar Mohanlal in the lead, from July. Blessy’s Aadujeevitham and the epic period flick Kaaliyan are his other projects in the pipeline. Antony has also signed for a couple of projects which are yet to be officially announced.

Confirmed: Shahid Kappor to star in the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy!

It’s been a while since reports about the Hindi remake of superhit Telugu flick Arjun Reddy started surfacing online. Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor were reportedly the front runners for the lead role, but as per latest reports Shahid has been signed for the movie. Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who made an impressive debut with Arjun Reddy, will be directing the remake as well.

The original movie starring Vijay Devarakonda is one of the most talked about Telugu movies in recent years. Arjun Reddy tells the story of a medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. He becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the story is about how he redeems himself. Vijay Deverakonda’s stellar performance as the medical surgeon with anger issues was widely talked about. So, comparisons are bound to be made between him and Shahid.

To play this character, Shahid would require intense preparation, including losing at least 8-9 kilos to look drugged. Incidentally, the actor played a druggie rockstar recently in Udta Punjab. He possesses a wide range of acting skills and it will be interesting to see how he plays this challenging character.

Incidentally, Arjun Reddy is also being remade in Tamil as Varma with Tamil star Vikram’s son Dhruv making his acting debut. National award winning filmmaker Bala is directing the movie. Varma has been on floors for nearly two months now and the team is expected to wrap up shoot by the end of this year itself.

If Tamil cinema has ‘Why this Kolaveri di’, Telugu cinema has ‘Saahore Baahubali’, then it’s ‘Jimmikki Kammal’ for Malayalam cinema. This sensational song from Mohanlal’s Velipadinte Pusthakam has now fetched a whopping 75 million views in YouTube. While Dhanush’z Kolaveri song has clocked 130 million views, Saahore Baahubali is the second from South India with 112 million views.

Ever since Jimikki Kammal song was released on August 17 last year, it has been trending viral across all social media platforms. The song has got several versions and spin-offs with some of them grabbing the attention of non-Keralites also. People from different parts of the world have been posting their dance videos and verisons for this fun song.

Shaan Rahman composed this song which was rendered by Vineeth Sreenivasan and Renjith Unni. Anil Panachooran’s quirky lyrics is the USP of this song. The original video is a fun campus number featuring a set of youngsters including Angamaly Diaries fame Sarath Kumar, Jude Anthany Joseph and Aanandam fame Arun Kurian among others. Mohanlal makes an entry only towards the end of the song riding a bicycle.

Velipadinte Pusthakam, written by Benny P Nayarambalam was directed by Lal Jose. The movie opened to mixed reviews but still managed to be an average grosser at the box office courtesy the Jimikki Kammal craze.

The much talked about Mohanlal starrer Lucifer is slated to go on floors from July this year. Actor Prithviraj is making his directorial debut with this movie scripted by Murali Gopy. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

The wait for Lucifer started two years back when Mohanlal made a surprise announcement that he will playing the lead in Prithviraj’s directorial debut, to be scripted by Murali Gopy. Ever since then, fans as well as the common audience have been eager to hear updates about the movie but the makers have remained tight-lipped all this while.

Not much is known about the movie; the makers have maintained utmost secrecy regarding the proceedings, so much so that even the genre is unknown. According to the makers, it will be a mass entertainer pertaining to audience of all age groups. Script works have already been completed and the makers are now busy with the pre-production.

Prithviraj had recently hinted that Lucifer, like all Murali Gopy scripts, will be an intense film that demands strong performances from the actors. Speculations are rife that a promising young will star alongside Mohanlal in Lucifer. Names like Indrajith, Tovino and Shane Nigam are doing the rounds, but the makers have not announced the cast or crew.

Prithviraj is currently shooting in Himalayas for his sci-fi movie 9, which also marks his maiden production venture. Mohanlal on the other hand has wrapped up Odiyan and will soon be flying to England for the shoot of Ranjith’s Bilathikadha. The actor has allotted around 45 days for the movie after which he will be joining the sets of Lucifer.
