Narain plays Manju Warrier’s husband in Odiyan!

The third and final schedule of Odiyan is currently progressing in Palakkad. The movie, according to the makers, is shaping up as a mass entertainer with a mix of action, romance and magical realism. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, Odiyan is primarily about ‘odividya’, a kind of black magic and people who practice it are called ‘odiyans’.

The first two schedules, held in Varanasi and Palakkad, were wrapped last year. Currently, the younger portions of the three lead characters – Manikyan, Ravunni and Prabha are being shot. While Mohanlal plays Manikyan, Prakash Raj plays the villain role of Ravunni.
Manju Warrier is essaying the role of Prabha, which according to director Shrikumar Menon is one of the most powerful female characters that Malayalam cinema has ever seen.

While it was believed that Manju plays Mohanlal’s pair in the movie, it is now being reported that Narain plays her husband. Narian’s portions are currently being shot in Palakkad now. He has a very prominent role in the movie and all his portions are alongside Manju Warrier, Mohanlal and Prakash Raj.

Innocent, Sana Althaf, Kailas and Siddique are also part of the movie’s supporting cast. Action choreographer Peter Hein, cinematographer Shaji Kumar, art director Prashanth Madhav, editor Sreekar Prasad, composers M Jayachandran, Sam CS and sound designer Resul Pookkutty form the movie’s technical crew. Shoot is progressing at a brisk pace and the makers are planning to release the movie this year itself.

Odiyan is funded by Mohanlal’s own production house, Aashirvad Cinemas.

Suraj Venjaramoodu’s next outing as a lead actor, ‘Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri’, is gearing up for release. The movie directed by Jean Markose of ‘Angels’ fame has Suraj playing the role of Kuttanpilla, a senior police constable. Joselet Joseph has scripted this movie as a family drama.

Suraj plays the role of Plachottil Kuttan Pillai, a 58-year-old police constable. The plot is centred around a series of events that happen in Kuttan Pillai’s house when his relatives – his children, their spouses and extended family – converge at his humble home to attend the annual Shiva Rathri festival.

For shooting the Shivarathri festival portions, the makers erected massive sets to recreate the festive ambience. A whopping Rs 1.50 crores was invested for the set works. The whole sequence was shot in 10 days with around 1500 junior artists. Since it was very taxing to shoot with such huge crowd, the makers hired the services of renowned stunt master Rajasekhar, who has worked in movies like Irumugan, Maasu and Engeyum Epodhum. Unlike Tamil movies, Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri will have realistic fights. These portions are said to be the movie’s major highlight.

Fazil Nazer has handled the cinematography and Shibish K Chandran is in charge of the edits. The movie marks the debut of playback singer Sayanora Philip as a music director. Raji Nandakumar is producing Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri under the banner of Alanghat Productions.

Sivakarthikeyan and Rakul Preet Singh team up for a science-fiction thriller

Sivakarthikeyan is one of the most wanted stars in Kollywood at present. The actor is now prepping up to start shooting for his upcoming science-fiction thriller to be directed by Ravikumar of ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ fame. RD Raja’s banner 24 AM Studios is producing this big budget movie. This is their foruth successive film with Sivakarthikeyan after Remo, Velaikkaran and Seemaraja.

Rakul Preet Singh has been roped in as the female lead for this upcoming movie. It is her first film with Sivakarthikeyan, so it will be interesting to see the on-screen chemistry of this new pair. In the technical department, the ‘2.0’ trio of composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Nirav Shah and production designer Muthuraj have been signed for this movie. AR Rahman recently had discussions with director Ravikumar and has already started composing for the movie.

Ravikumar made an impressive debut in 2015 with ‘Indru Netru Naalai’. It had a time travel concept but was cleverly packaged as a commercial entertainer. The movie won positive reviews and emerged as a sleeper hit. Expectations are huge for his next with Sivakarthikeyan. With such a dream team and a bankable actor like Siva, the audience are expecting nothing short of a blockbuster.

It is heartening to see a popular actor like Sivakarthikeyan not confining himself to regular commercial flicks. With his lovable guy-next-door image, the actor has mostly done roles which offer him scope for humour. But, of late, we see a consciuos attempt to try out different genres. Velaikkaran was the first step, he balanced it with a rural entertainer in Seemaraja. And now with this sci-fi flick, Sivakarthikeyan is proving that he is on the right track.

‘Sudani From Nigeria’ is the latest talk in social medias. Releasing last Friday (March 23), the movie opened to unanimously positive reviews from the critics as well as the common audience. Newcomer Zakariya has directed the movie which stars Soubin Shahir and African actor Samuel Abiola Robinson in the lead roles. Both the actors are being showered with praise for their performance.

The 20-year-old Samuel is already an audience favorite. In a recent interview, when asked about his favorite actor in Malayalam cinema, pat came the reply – ‘Dulquer Salmaan’. Apparently, when Samuel was first approached for Sudani From Nigeria, he did a small online research about Malayalam cinema and from there he learnt about Dulquer. Samuel added that he became a fan of Dulquer after watching the trailers of his movies like Kali, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi.

Samuel, in his official social media handle, has posted a screenshot of a message he sent to Dulquer. In the message, he has written about how he came to know about Dulquer and how much he admires him for making it to the top on his own despite being a superstar’s son.

His message reads,

@dulQuer a lot of research when coming to the malayalam industry. The way you have made yourself successful without easily riding once on the wave of being a superstar’s son is very admirable and humble of you. You yourself are extraordinary and you will always be extraordinary; Superstar son or not. I Love You Man

Dulquer repiled back saying,

Sudani From Nigeria Review: A heartwarming tale of love and compassion!

Soubin Shahir, who turned a director last year, is making his debut as a lead actor with Sudani From Nigeria. Along with him is the African actor Samuel Abiola Robinson. The strange title itself piqued the curiosity of the audience and the promos were highly promising. Let’s see how the movie has turned out to be.

Sudani From Nigeria tells the story of two individuals – Majeed and Samuel Robinson, fondly called as Sudu by the locals in Malappuram. African players participating in the sevens football tournament is a very common sight in the Malabar areas. Our protagonist Majeed is the manager of a local sevens football club. His team also has a few African players – all of them are called Sudanis, doesn’t matter if they come from Nigeria or Ghana. Samuel is their star player.

An unfortunate set of events lands Samuel a.k.a Sudu in Majeed’s home. There we are introduced to two angelic woman – Majeed’s mother and her neighbor, played by Savitiri Sreedharan and Sarasa Balussery respectively. From that point, the movie is taken forward by the two ladies who show us the innocence and goodness of small-town people.

Majeed and Samuel stand at two spectrums. Majeed is the typical Malappuram guy who loves football more than anything else, but for Samuel, football is a way to make money for his family who lead a miserable life back home. Both Soubin and Samuel have breathed life to these well-sketched characters. Soubin has given his career best act in the movie. As Majeed, he has once again shown the range he possesses as an actor.

Zakariya, the director, has successfully broken almost all the stereotypes associated with a Malappuram story. But a remarkable thing is that he has done it very subtly without deviating from the core plot. As they say, a director’s job is half done once he gets the casting right. Here, Zakariya has got it spot-on. The two female leads are the life of this movie. He has managed to extract the right emotions from them, without going overboard even once.

Shyju Khalid’s cinematography is the next best thing. There are some movies where the visuals standout and then there are movies where we don’t even think about the visuals or the framings. Sudani comes under in the second category. Shyju Kalid’s camera simply follows the events and never tends to fall over the line. Continuing his stellar work from Mayaanadhi, composer Rex Vijayan has captured the Malabari essence with his music. Special applause to Sameer Thahir for backing this movie that boasts of no big stars or the so-called commercial elements.

Overall, Sudani is a fine piece of cinema that deserves a watch from theatres. It speaks about love and hence is sure to win over your hearts.

The superhit combo of Vineeth Sreenivasan and Shaan Rahman have come together once again for this soulful song titled ‘Kanne Thaai Malare’. BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics for this song.

Aravindante Athithikal scripted by newcomer Rajesh Raghavan is set in the premises of Mookambika Temple in Kollur. Vineeth Sreenivasan plays Aravindan, an orphan who was raised by Madhavan, the owner of Mookambika Vilasam lodge. The movie explores Aravindan’s relationship with his guests and his wait for his long lost mother.

Nikhila Vimal of ’24×7 Love’ fame plays the female lead. The movie has a big supporting cast which includes Urvashi, Shanthi Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Vijayaraghavan, Aju Varghese, Biju Kuttan, Salim Kumar, Prem Kumar, Kottayam Nazeer and Baiju among others.

Aravindante Athidhikal’s technical crew includes cinematographer Sawroop Philip, composer Shaan Rahman and veteran editor Ranjan Abraham. Pradeep Kumar Pathiyara is producing the movie under the banner of Pathiyara Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Mohanlal and Mammootty are the two pillars of Malayalam film industry. They’ve been carrying the industry on their shoulders for over three decades now. Mammootty has committed for over ten movies for the next couple of years. The 66-year-old actor is making a mockery of his age by committing for multiple projects at a time. Some of them are physically taxing as well, but he seems to unperturbed by all that.

Parole

Parole, directed by is Sharrath Sandith is the next release for Mammootty. The movie is all set to storm screens on March 31. Mammootty plays the role of sakhav Alex in this movie based on real life events. The narrative travels through three different phases of his life. Mammootty is said to have given such a performance that would remind the viewers of his older days. Abrahaminte Santhathikal

Mammootty recently wrapped up shooting for Abrahaminte Santhathikal, which marks the maiden directorial venture of veteran associate director Shaji Padoor. Haneef Adeni of ‘The Great Father’ fame is scripting this cop-action thriller. Anson Paul, Kaniha, Kalabhavan Shajon and Maria John are part of the supporting cast.

Peranbu

Not just Mammootty fans, but by cinephiles across Kerala and Tamil Nadu are eagerly waiting for this movie. The movie directed by National award winner Ram was recently screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). It was also selected among the 20 ‘Must Watch’ movies at the festival. Trustworthy reports suggest that Mammootty’s performance in the movie has the potential to sweep all the major awards this year.

Mamankam

Mamankam is a mega budget period action flick which marks the directorial debut of Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan. First schedule has already been completed and the second leg will kick-start by the end of April or May first week. Mammootty is playing the role of a warrior in this movie based on Mamankam, a medieval fair which was held every 12 years from 800 AD to 1755 AD. The festival was held on the banks of Bharathapuzha where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. The second schedule that commences next month in Kochi will have some leading stars from other industries as well.

Odiyan

Mohanlal, on the other hand, is busy shooting for the final schedule of Odiyan. Shoot for this movie is expected to be wrapped up very soon to ensure a grand release this year itself.

Neerali

Mohanlal’s next release will be Neerali, directed by Ajoy Varma. Shoot for the movie was wrapped up month in quick time and the makers are currently busy with the post-production. Since Neerali is an adventure thriller, it has a lot of graphic works. The makers are investing huge amount of money and time to get the best possible output. Neerali has Mohanlal playing a gemologist while Nadiya Modiu appears as his wife. Parvatii Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothan and Nasser are part of the movie’s supporting cast. After the success of Shikkari Shambu, Kunchacko Boban is back with another fun entertainer in Kuttanadan Marpappa. Cinematographer Sreejith Vijay makes his directorial debut with this movie which stars Kunchacko Boban as a photographer and Aditi Ravi as his romantic interest. Yesteryear actress Shanthi Krishna is playing a crucial role as Kunchacko Boban’s mother in the movie.

Kuttanadan Marpappa was initially planned as a March 23 release but the makers have now pushed the release by one week. The movie will now hit screens on March 29. Summer vacation kick-starts by this time and since it is a fun filled entertainer, family audiences are expected to flock theatres in good numbers.

Kuttanadan Marpappa promsies to be an absolute laugh riot. The movie’s supporting cast includes almost all the leading comedy actors in the industry namely Hareesh Kanaran, Ramesh Pisharody, Soubin Shahir, Dharamjan, Aju Varghese, Salim Kumar, Innocent and Tiny Tom.

Mohanlal unveiled one of his stunning looks from the movie. He posted a menacing photo of his on his official social media handle. Odiyans are known to appear in different getups to frighten people. This is presumably one such look used by odiyan Manikyan to terrorize people.

Mohanlal plays the role of odiyan Manikyan in the movie. Manju Warrier plays the female lead Prabha and Prakash Raj essays the villain role of Ravunni. The story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. In this ongoing schedule, the younger portions of these three lead characters are being shot.

Innocent, Sana Althaf, Kailas, Naren and Siddique are also part of the movie’s supporting cast. We were among the first to report about Prithviraj acting in a science-fiction thriller titled ‘9’. Ace filmmaker Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohamed, who made an impressive debut with ‘100 Days of Love’, will be directing Nine. Prithrvaj’s newly launched production house Prithviraj Productions will be funding the movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Prithviraj himself announced the project through his official social media handle. Along with the first look poster, he has also written a small note which reads,

From the creative heads at Sony, to Supriya, me and every single crew member you see in the credits, came on board for how new we thought the film and it’s premise was. Soon, we will also introduce you to the cast..and why we think this is a genuine first of its kind for Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj Productions and Sony Pictures International Productions proudly present..our maiden venture..9!

Jenuse Mohamed has scripted this movie, which is said to be the first of its kind in Malayalam cinema. If reports are to be believed, Prithviraj plays a scientist in this movie, the story of which happens over nine days. Nithya Menen and Parvathy are being considered for the two female leads.

Abhinandan Ramanujam, well known for his stellar works in films like ‘Amen’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthirameenukal’ will be cranking the camera. Shaan Rahman will be composing the songs and ‘Da Thadiya’ fame Sekhar Menon has been sigend to compose the original music score. Shameer Mohammed will be editing the movie. More details regarding the cast and when the movie goes on floors will be announced very soon.
