Prithviraj directorial Lucifer with Mohanlal likely to start rolling by June!

The wait for ‘Lucifer’ started two years back when Mohanlal made a surprise announcement that he playing the lead in actor Prithviraj’s directorial debut, to be scripted by Murali Gopy. Ever since then, fans as well as the common audience have been eager to hear updates about the movie but the makers have remained tight-lipped all this while.

Not much is known about the movie; the makers have maintained utmost secrecy regarding the proceedings, so much so that even the genre is unknown. Finally we hear that the movie will go on floors by June, this year. By then, both Mohanlal and Prithviraj are expected to wrap up their other commitments.

Prithviraj had recently hinted that Lucifer, like all Murali Gopy scripts, will be an intense film that demands strong performances from the actors. Murali Gopy has scripted acclaimed movies like Left Right Left and Ee Adutha Kaalath. Speculations are rife that a promising young will star alongside Mohanlal in Lucifer. Names like Indrajith, Tovino and Shane Nigam are doing the rounds, but the makers have not announced the cast or crew.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing Lucifer under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. Hype surrounding the movie is humungous as it brings together two of the biggest stars of the industry – Mohanlal and Prithviraj – for the first time. Let’s wait for an official word from the makers themselves about when the movie goes on floors.

Shoot for Vijay’s upcoming movie with AR Murugadoss, tentatively titled Thalapathy 62, is currently underway in Chennai. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the movie which marks the comeback of Sun Pictures to production after a eight year long gap. Recently, the makers had announced about signing Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar to play a crucial role in the movie.

Though certain reports suggest that she is playing a negative role in the movie, the makers have not yet confirmed it. Varalaxmi has hinted that it is brief but very prominent role. The actress is all excited about working with Vijay.

In a recent interview, she is quoted saying, “I’ve always wanted to work with Vijay sir. I’m really really excited about Thalapathy 62. I admire him both on and off screen. How he manages his off-screen to on-screen transformation is simply amazing.”

Varalaxmi has proved her showcased her acting skills with her performance in movies like Tharai Thappattai, Vikram Vedha, Nibunan, Sathya etc. Unlike her contemporaries, Varalaxmi has done many grey shaded and negative roles in her brief career. With Thalapathy 62, she is expected to storm into the top league of heroines.

Vijay-Murugadoss team’s previous two outings, Thuppakki and Kaththi, were hugely successful. So their upcoming movie has tremendous expectations among the audience. The director had earlier assured that this movie will be entirely different from his previous works. Vijay is said to be playing a millionaire’s role in the movie. It is after a long gap that Vijay is playing such a rich and sophisticated character as he has mostly done roles that are easily relatable to the commoners. Fans are highly excited to see the stylish new avatar of Vijay. First look and title is expected to be unveiled next month for the Tamil New Year.

Earlier this month, it was officially announced that Pranav Mohanlal’s next will be with with director Arun Gopy of ‘Ramaleela’ fame. Tomichan Mulakupadam will be producing the movie under the banner of Mulakupadam Films. Pre-production works for this movie is progressing and shoot is expected to commence by July. Arun Gopy is debuting as a writer with this movie, tipped to be a romantic-action flick.

We had earlier reported about, Arun Gopy planning to do a movie with superstar Mohanlal. Post the release of Ramaleela, Tomichan Mulakupadam and Arun Gopy had met and discussed a subject with Mohanlal. The latest we hear is that the makers are taking the project forward. If things turn out well, the director’s next after the ongoing Pranav starrer will be with Mohanlal.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is busy shooting for the final schedule of Shrikumar Menon’s Odiyan. After its completion, he will be joining the sets of Lucifer, which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj. A road movie with Bhadran, Randamoozham and Kayamkulam Kochunni are some of his other committed movies.

Prithviraj to undergo intense physical training for Kaaliyan!

Prithviraj’s mega project ‘Kaaliyan’ was officially announced last month. Though the announcement was made only recently, groundwork for the movie was started long back. Debutant Mahesh S will be directing this epic movie, which is to be produced by Magic Moon Productions. BT Anil Kumar has scripted the movie after doing years of research works.

Kaaliyan is an epic period film based on the Northern ballads. The movie tells the story of Kunchirakkottu Kali, a warrior who lived in the 17th century in Venad. He was well known as Kaaliyan for his bravery. Kaaliyan was a trusted disciple of Iravikkutty Pilla, a legendary warrior. Though Iraivikutty Pillai and his life story went on to be a part of history, Kaaliyan remained an unsung hero.

Prithviraj will be starting his preparations for Kaaliyan only after he finishes works for his directorial debut ‘Lucifer’. Kaaliyan demands him to undergo intense training in martial arts. The actor who is well known for his commitment, will also be working out to build a warrior’s physique.

Veteran actor Sathyaraj will be seen in a prominent role in the movie. Other supporting actors will be cast through screenings that will be held in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and in different parts of Kerala. Bollywood’s leading composer trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy is making their Malayalam debut with Kaaliyan. Sujith Vaassudev has been signed as the cinematographer and National award winner Shajith Koyeri will be handling the sound design.

The team is also in talks with action choreographers working in the world famous TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. The plan is to make the movie as realistic as possible with novel action sequences. The series is hugely popular for its top quality action; so it will be great if they can get the same choreographers on board. The movie is planned to go on floors next year after Prithviraj finishes his other commitments.

Watch this interesting teaser of Unni Mukundan-Gokul Suresh starrer Ira!

Unni Mukundan and Gokul Suresh are teaming up for a movie titled ‘Ira’. Saiju SS, a former associate of director Vysakh, is making his debut with this thriller. An interesting teaser of the movie was released last evening in social medias.

Gokul Suresh is seen as an accused who is taken around by the police for investigation. The whole scenario is reminiscent of what happened last year in real life when actor Dileep was arrested in the actress assault case. The makers of Ira have even recreated a dialogue that Dileep said to media persons who were behind him during the investigation.

Unni Mukundan plays an investigating officer in the movie while Gokul Suresh plays an innocent youngster who seems to have been wrongly accused. Miya George and C/o Saira Banu fame Niranja Babu play the female leads. Shankar Ramakrishnan, Srikanth Murali, Alencier Ley Lopez and many other noted supporting actors are also part of the cast.

Newcomer Naveen John has scripted Ira, which comes with the tagline ‘story of an accused’. Ira is the maiden production venture of director Vysakh and writer Udhayakrishna’s new company Vysakh Udhayakrishna Productions.

Nonsense: India’s first movie based on BMX cycling!

Popular producer Johnny Sagariga’s banner Johnny Sagariga Group Of Companies is staging a comeback after five years by funding five movies this year. One among them is ‘Nonsense’, a teenage story which will be directed by debutant MC Jithin. The movie has a bunch of newcomers, both in the cast as well as the technical crew.

Rinosh George, a popular name in the online sphere, is making his acting debut with this movie. Interestingly, he is also composing the songs in Nonsense. Rinosh has earlier made several hit music videos and this is his maiden attempt in feature films. Febia Mathew, Vinay Forrt, Shruthi Ramachandran, Kalabhavan Shajon, Lalu Alex and Shiyad are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Director MC Jithin is also a well known name in the short film circuit. Some of his noted works are Mallus, A Friday, Water etc. For his debut movie, Nonsense, he has come up with an interesting subject that is centred around BMX cycling. The makers claim that Nonsense is the first Indian movie to have BMX cycling as part of its narrative. The movie is basically about teenagers and the flaws in the education system.

‘Kattappa’ Sathyaraj gets a wax statue in London!

Veteran actor Sathyaraj is now a popular face all across the country thanks to his role of Kattappa in SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali series. The character Kattappa had almost equal prominence to the lead roles played by Prabhas and Rana Daggubati. Sathyaraj’s performance as the loyal warrior was highly appreciated, both by the critics as well as the common audience.

Sathyaraj has now been honoured by a popular wax museum in London; the museum will feature a statue of Sathyaraj in his Kattappa avatar. Notably, he is the first Tamil actor to get such an honour. This is truly a proud moment for the whole South Indian film fraternity.

Post Baabubali, Sathyaraj has been very choosy with his roles. He was last seen in a brief but crucial role of a police officer in Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal. His upcoming movies include Venkat Prabhu’s Party, the Tamil-Telugu period flick Madai Thirandthu and Echcharikkai Idhu Manidhargal Nadamaadum Idam. Sathyaraj has also been signed for a major role in Prithviraj’s epic Malayalam film Kaaliyan.

Naga Chaitanya joins Dulquer Salmaan’s debut Telugu movie Mahanati

Mahanati, the biopic on legendary actress Savithri is nearing its final stages of shoot. Keerthy Suresh plays the lead role in this movie, which also stars Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha, and ‘Arjun Reddy’ actors Shalini Pandey and Vijay Deverakonda. The cast has just got bigger with the addition of stars Naga Chaitanya and Anushka Shetty.

This Nag Ashwin directorial has Keerthy Suresh as Savitri and Dulquer as late actor Gemini Ganesan. Reportedly, Naga Chaitanya has been signed to play the role of legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). Earlier, the makers had approached many other senior stars but nothing materialized. It was then reported that they would be recreating ANR’s portions using CG. But now Naga Chaitanya has agreed to do the role and has alloted two days out of his busy schedule for shoot. Anushka Shetty will be playing the role of Bhanumathi, who is hailed as the first woman superstar of Telugu cinema.

Mahanati scripted by Nag Ashwin will showcase both the personal and professional life of Savithri. She was briefly married to Gemini Ganesan and the movie will show some lesser known details about their relationship. Dulquer essays the different phases of Gemini Ganesan in the movie and for that he will be seen sporting multiple looks. Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda will be seen as journalists in the movie. The narrative evolves as the two set out to piece together the story of Savithri’s life.

Mahanati is being produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. The movie is being made as a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil. The Tamil version is titled as ‘Nadigayar Thilagam’. A dubbed version in Malayalam has also been planned.

Jyothika is a wonderful actress; Never thought someone as big as her would remake my film: Vidya Balan

We had recently reported about Jyothika remaking Vidya Balan’s superhit movie Tumhari Sulu in Tamil. Radha Mohan is directing the movie and Dhanjayan Govindan is producing it under the banner of BOFTA Media Works. Tumhari Sulu directed by Suresh Triveni is the story of an ambitious housewife who becomes a radio jockey for a late-night relationship advice show. The movie worked well at the box office majorly due to Vidya Balan’s tremendous performance.

In a recent interview, Vidya was all praise of Jyoyhika and sounded delighted about the remake. She is quoted saying, “Jyothika is a wonderful actress. I never thought someone as big as her would act in a remake of my film. Bhool Bhulaiya was a remake of Chandramukhi, where she essayed the lead role. I am sure she will do a great job with the remake of Tumhari Sulu as well.”

The remake starring Jyothika has not yet been titled. This is her second film with Radha Mohan after the widely acclaimed Mozhi. Jyothika’s performance as a differently abled person is regarded as her career best. The actress is expected to deliver another excellent performance when she teams up with the same director once again.

Radha Mohan is currently in the process of reworking the script to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Lakshmi Manchu has been signed to reprise the role played by Neha Dhupia in the original. Cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswami and editor Praveen KL are already confirmed for the project. More details about the title and other cast and crew are yet to be revealed.
