Buzz!! Mohanlal in talks for a Mani Ratnam movie

Mohanlal has a jam-packed season ahead of him. He is currently shooting in Mangalore for Kayamkulam Kochunni, in which he plays the role of iconic robber Ithikkara Pakki. Rosshan Andrewss is directing the movie which stars Nivin Pauly in the lead role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Mohanlal has given 15 days for the movie after which he will be joining the final schedule of Odiyan. He also has Bhadran’s road movie and Prithviraj’s Lucifer coming up.

Latest buzz is that the superstar is in talks with legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam for a Tamil movie. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, fans are already excited about it. The duo have previously worked together in the 1997 film Iruvar. Mohanlal’s performance as the actor-turned-politician Anandhan in Iruvar is considered to be his one of his finest till date. Fans and cinephiles are hoping that the rumours turn out to be true and they come up with another classic like Iruvar.

Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam is busy shooting for his upcoming multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (CCV). The movie has a huge star cast comprising of actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swamy, Simbu, Arun Vijay, Jyothika, Aishwarya Rajesh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Prakash Raj and many others. CCV is said to be a socio political drama which will have music by AR Rahman.

Shoot for Dhanush’s Maari 2 is progressing at a brisk pace. After wrapping up the first schedule in Tenkasi, the team is now shooting some major portions in Chennai. Balaji Mohan, who helmed the first part, is directing the sequel as well. Malayali actor Tovino Thomas joined the team last day. He informed it to his followers with a tweet which reads,

Joined the sets of #Maari2 ! Amazing Team , overwhelming experience @dhanushkraja @directormbalaji

Tovino plays the antagonist in the movie. His casting came as a big surprise but director Balaji Mohan had clear plans while roping him in. Though the first part, Maari, was not a big hit, it had a wide reach. So the director collected feedback on what went wrong in the movie. While scripting, he took all that into consideration, and first designed the antagonist. The script was later developed from him. The role demanded an intense actor and that’s how they signed Tovino Thomas.

Premam fame Sai Pallavi plays Dhansuh’s pair in the movie. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Krishna will also be seen in crucial roles. The USP of Maari was argubaly its music by Anirudh Ravichander. But in the sequel, Yuvan Shankar Raja has replaced him. It is after a long gap that Yuvan is composing for a Dhanush starrer, so expectations are high among the fans.

Dhanush himself is producing the movie under his banner Wunderbar Films. The makers have informed that the movie is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu.

Makers reveal the reason behind designing such a look for Ithikara Pakki

Kayamkulam Kochunni is the current talk of the town in Mollywood. The movie directed by Roshan Andrews stars Nivin Pauly as Kochunni while Mohanlal plays an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. Photos from the movie’s sets have been ruling social medias for the past one week.

Mohanlal’s stunning look in the movie has been widely discussed. Many were skeptical about how Ithikara Pakki, a thief from Kerala, sports such a look with costumes resembling that of ancient Greek warriors. Script writer Sanjay, in na interview to TOI, has clarified about why the opted for such a look and the thought process that went behind it.

According to him, Ithikkara Pakki lived in an era when we had a lot of trade with the the Arabs, British and the Portuguese. Pakki was also an was an adventurous traveler who looted from these traders. He has a lot of international connections, so his look in the movie is an amalgamation of all their cultures.

The makers zeroed in on this particular look for Pakki from around 25 different sketches. The movie also has an exact description on how he got this attire. Mohanlal as Ithikara Pakki makes his appearance at a very crucial juncture in the story and has around 40 minutes screen time. His combination scenes with Nivin Pauly would be the movie’s major highlight.

Shoot for the movie is currently progressing in Mangalore. Mohanlal has allotted 15 days for this movie after which he will be joining the sets of Odiyan. Kayamkulam Kochunni is expected to hit screens for this coming Onam.

Tovino Thomas is currently shooting for actor-turned-filmmaker Madhupal’s new movie titled Oru Kuprasidha Payyan. Shoot commenced only a couple of weeks back in Vaikkom. The makers have now released the first look poster or character poster via Tovino’s official Facebook page.

As the title suggests, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan comes under the genre of a thriller. Reportedly, it is a murder mystery with a completely commercial pacakge. The movie is scripted by newcomer Jeevan Job Thomas. Nimisha Sajayan of ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ and ‘Eeda’ fame plays the female lead.

The cast also has a strong line up of supporting actors which includes Tamil actress Saranya Ponvannan, ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ fame Lijomol Jose, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, producer Suresh Kumar, Dileesh Pothan, Sujith Sankar, Pasupathi, Alencier Ley, Sudeer Karamana, Saiju Kurup and Balu Varghese among others.

Noushad Shereef is the cinematographer and veteran composer Ouseppachan is handling the music department. The movie is being produced under the banner of V Cinemas.

Madhupal has previously helmed two films – Thalappavu and Ozhimuri. Both the movies were widely acclaimed and won numerous accolades at the regional and international level. So, both the commoners as well as the critics are eagerly looking forward to his upcoming movie with Tovino Thomas.

Mammootty’s Tamil movie Peranbu won international recognition at the recently held Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). The movie secured the 20th position amongst the 187 films considered for the audience award category at the festival. It was also nominated for the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award. Critics who watched the movie at the festival have given unanimously positive reviews.

Both the Malayali and Tamil audience are eagerly waiting for the movie’s release. As per latest reports, the makers are planning it as a summer release. Depending on the availability of screens, the movie will be released by the end of May or June.

Peranbu directed by Ram is an intense emotional family drama featuring Mammootty as a caring father. He plays the role of Amudhan, a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad. As per reports, the veteran actor has given an extraordinary performance in the movie which has the potential to win top honours at all the major awards this year.

Peranbu also has Anjali, Sarath Kumar, Baby Sadhana, transgender artist Anjali Ameer, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kaniha and Samuthirakani playing significant roles. The movie is being produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.

Gautham Menon is unarguably one of the most ambitious filmmakers in Kollywood at present. He comes up with some interesting ideas every now and then. Currently he is working on multiple projects – the music label Ondraga Originals and his upcoming movies, ‘Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta’ and ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’. Both the movies are nearing completion and if things turn out well, will be releasing this year itself.

Meanwhile, the director is also simultaneously working on his much talked about multi-starrer film. He has been planning to make a multilingual movie with stars from all the four South industries for sometime now. The project was announced long back but kept delaying due to some unknown reasons.

Gautham Menon has now reworked the script and is now presenting it as a sequel of his hit film Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya (VTV). He divulged more details in a recent interview to Film Companion. The plot of this upcoming movie is set eight years from where VTV ended. Karthik, the protagonist in VTV, is now an established filmmaker. The core plot of this upcoming movie takes off when Karthik along with his best buddies from college travel to the US for one of their friends’ wedding.

Basically, Gautham Menon is planning to make a four hero movie with leading actors from all the four South Indian states. While Karthik is a Tamilian, his friends hail from the three other Southern states. Interestingly, Simbu, who played Karthik in VTV, is not part of this movie. Instead, Madhavan will be reprising his role. Puneeth Rajkumar and Tovino Thomas will be playing the Kannadiga’s and Malayali’s role respectively. The Telugu actor has not yet been confirmed.

Though the story has a resemblance to the famous ‘Hangover’ series, Gautham Menon clarifies that his movie will be an emotional fun filled journey. AR Rahman is already on board as the music director. Details regarding the cast or when the movie will go on floors have not yet been announced.

This sounds like a very interesting project, let’s wait and see.

Mohanlal’s Neerali is currently in the post production phase. Shoot was wrapped up last week in Mumbai and the team is now working on the highly anticipated teaser. As per reports, the teaser will be released for the this weekend itself. Directed by Ajoy Varma, Neerali is primarily an action thriller. Mohanlal plays the role of Sunny, a gemologist in the movie.

Producer Santhosh T Kuruvila in a casual chat with his followers in Facebook revealed that they are planning to release the movie on May 3. This might get pushed by a couple of weeks as the Eid holidays would be commencing by then. An official announcement regarding the exact release date has not yet been made.

Neerali, scripted by newcomer Saju Thoma has Nadiya Moidu playing Mohanlal’s wife. She has been paired opposite Mohanlal after a gap of three long decades and so their on-screen chemistry is something very exciting to look forward to. Parvatii Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothan and Nasser are also part of the supporting cast.

Cinematography is handled by Santhosh Thundiyil and director Ajoy Varma himself is editing the movie. Stephen Devassy is composing music for the movie. There will be three songs in total out of which one, duet track, will be sung by Mohanlal and Shreya Ghoshal.

Neerali is being produced by Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment, and co-produced by John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikdan. The movie is gearing up for release on the first week of May.

We had recently reported about Sunny Wayne signing for a new movie titled French Viplavam. Shoot for the movie directed by debutant Maju commenced recently. It is tipped to be a fun entertainer with a period backdrop, set in 1996. The movie is scripted jointly by Anwar Ali, Shajeer Shah and Shajeer.

As per the makers, the movie revolves around a chef and his group of friends. Sunny Wayne plays the chef’s role in the movie. He is a lazy guy working in a village resort but likes to hang around with his friends all the time. Chemban Vinod Jose and Lal play major roles in the movie. The three actors are coming together for the first time, so it will be interesting to watch their on-screen chemistry.

Sasi Kallinga, Vishnu, Unnimaya, Arya and Krishna are also part of the supporting cast. Pappinu is wielding the camera while Deepu Joseph is editing the movie. Music has lot of significance in the movie and the makers have roped in Prashanth Pillai to handle the music department.

French Viplavam is being produced by Shajeer KJ and Jaffeer KA under the banner of Abba Creations.

If the location stills are anything to go by, Kayamkulam Kochunni promises to be an absolute treat for fans of both the actors. It is not often that two big stars like Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly come together for such a high profile project. Scripted by the National award winning duo Bobby-Sanjay, the movie is based on the life of legendary highwayman Kochunni, who was active in 19th century in the Travancore region. Prior to the shoot, Nivin Pauly had trained hard to get himself ready to play the role of the legendary thief, Kochunni. The actor shed a lot of extra pounds along with training in horse riding, Kalarippaytu and basics in other martial arts.

As per the makers, Mohanlal as Ithikara Pakki makes his appearance at a very crucial juncture in the story and has around 40 minutes screen time. His newly trimmed physique would certainly help him in performing the action sequences effortlessly. The combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly would easily be the movie’s major highlight.

Kayamkulam Kochunni also stars Priya Anand, Sunny Wayne, Babu Antony and Kannada actress Priyanka Thimmesh. The technical team also boasts of some big wigs like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan, National award winning sound designer PM Satheesh and Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie.

Mammootty starrer Parole was a less talked about movie until the official posters were released. While the first look had an intense Mammootty with flag bearing activists in the background, the newly released poster features him as a convict with an older look. The contrasting posters have successfully piqued the curiosity of the audience.

As per latest reports, Parole is slated for release on March 30. Century Films will be releasing the movie in Kerala. It is worth a mention that the superhit Mammootty starrer The Great Father was released on the same day last year.

Parole marks the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Sharrath Sandith. The movie scripted by Ajith Poojappura is based on some real life incidents. It is a common man’s story with a political background for the lead character. Mammootty plays the role of Sakhavu Alex and three different phases of his character will be shown in the movie. As per the makers, Mammootty has given such an intense performance that it will remind the viewers of his earlier days.

Parole has Ineya and Miya George in prominent roles. While Ineya plays Mammootty’s wife, Miya will be seen in his sister’s role. ‘Baahubali’ fame Prabhakar is playing a significant part in Parole.
