Dulquer Salmaan’s heroine will be next seen with Mammootty!!

We had already reported about Mammootty playing the lead in an upcoming movie titled as Uncle. The film is written by actor-turned-filmmaker Joy Mathew. Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and M Padmakumar, is making his directorial debut with Uncle.

Joy Mathew has earlier written and directed the critically and commercially acclaimed Shutter. The movie was screened at several international film festivals and was also remade in six Indian languages. It showcased the moral hypocrisies in Kerala’s patriarchal society.

Uncle also lies on similar lines to Shutter and will discuss about a very relevant socially issue. It is centered around a 17-year-old girl and her dad’s friend, whom she fondly calls uncle. Mammootty is playing the titular role. The social and political milieu of Kerala is of much importance in the movie. It is about an unusual situation a family is made to face. Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether.

Karthika Muraleedharan has been roped in to play a prominent role in the movie. Karthika made her debut earlier this year by playing the female lead in Dulquer Salmaan’s Comrade In America (CIA). The Mumbai born actress is lucky to share screen space with the most celebrated father-son duo of Mollywood in her first two movies itslef.

Uncle also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, Sheela, Muthumani and others in supporting roles. Veteran Azhagappan will be cranking the camera and Bijibal will handle the music department.

Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding Uncle under the banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films. Shoot for the movie will be commencing on September 23. Kozhikode and Ooty have been finalized as the major locations.

Vijay to start shooting for his next with AR Murugadoss from January

It is already known that Vijay’s next (Vijay 62) after the ongoing Mersal will be with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss. This will be his third film with the director after the blockbusters Thuppakki and Kaththi, both of which entered the elite 100 crore club. It is learnt that the makers are planning to start shoot by January next year.

In a recent interview, AR Murugadoss had revealed that the blockbuster duo’s next outing will be an unusual project. He assured that he will be showing an unseen side of Vijay in this film. The director is currently busy with the final patch up and promotional works of the Mahesh Babu starrer Spyder, slated to hit screens on September 27. He will start working on Vijay’s film only after the release of Spyder.

AR Murugadoss is one filmmaker who knows how to utilize the acting potential and star power of Vijay. Almost all his movies have been money spinners that have also found critical acclaim. So the expectations are obviously on the higher side when the duo are teaming up for the third time.

There are unconfirmed reports about Sun Pictures returning back to production after seven long years by funding this high-profile project. Their last production was the all time blockbuster Enthiran, released back in 2010. Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander is rumoured be to composing for Vijay 62.

Vijay recently finished dubbing for Mersal, his upcoming movie directed by Atlee. This mass entertainer funded by Sri Thenandal Films is scheduled to hit screens worlwide for Diwali in October.

Alphonse Puthren is all praise for Biju Menon’s Rakshadhikari Baiju

Biju Menon starrer Rakshadhikari Baiju was released earlier this year without much fanfare. Things changed soon for this Ranjan Pramod directorial as overwhelming reports started flowing in upon release. Critics as well as the common audience lapped up the movie.

Rakshadhikari Baiju stood rock solid despite the Baahubali wave that swept the Kerala box office in the April- May season. The movie successfully completed a 100 days theatrical run and emerged as the biggest blockbuster of Biju Menon after Vellimoonga.

After the DVD release, the movie once again became the topic of discussion in social media forums. Malayalis who live abroad could easily relate to the movie as it has a lot of nostalgic elements. Recently, director Alphonse Puthren took to his Facebook page to pen his thoughts about the movie.

Alphonse Puthren showered praise for director Ranjan Pramod and Biju Menon for delivering such a quality movie. He is also hopeful that the movie will bag quite a few awards this year. Alphonse also urged all those who haven’t watched the movie yet to find time and catch it.

Rakshadhikari Baiju is the tale of a bunch of Kumbalam natives.
Biju Menon plays the titular role of a government employee while Darwinte Parinamam fame Hannah Reji Koshy plays his wife. Aju Varghese, Deepak Parambol, Hareesh Perumanna, Janardhanan, Vijayaraghavan, Dileesh Pothen and Alencier Ley have done supporting roles. The movie was produced by 100th Monkey Movies Pvt Ltd.

My Story new poster released on Ennu Ninte Moideen’s second anniversary!

Today marks the second anniversary of the release of Prithviraj-Parvathy starrer Ennu Ninte Moideen (ENM). As a tribute to the classic love story, the makers of My Story have released a new poster. The ENM pair of Parvathy and Prithviraj are reuniting with My Story, a romantic entertainer directed by debutante Roshni Dinaker.

Along with the poster, the makers have also penned a lovely note on Ennu Ninte Moideen in movie’s official Facebook page. The post reads,

“The word hangs in the air for a moment, both a promise and a threat. Then it floats away like a paper boat, taken from her by the water licking at her ankles. Sometimes people don’t understand the promises they are making when they make them. But you keep the promise anyway… Promises are not just words….

My Story, scripted by noted actor/scenarist Shankar Ramakrishnan stars Prithviraj as Jai and Parvathy as Tara. It is a feel good love story with a modern backdrop. It is set in two time periods – in 1995 and today. The movie was shot majorly in Portugal and surrounding areas.

Dudley has cranked the camera and Shaan Rahman is handling the music department. The movie is being produced by Roshni Dinaker and OV Dinaker under the banner of Roshni Dinaker Productions.

After Mammootty, Vikram to play the lead in this director’s next movie!

Vikram is currently in Turkey busy with the final leg of shoot of Dhruva Natchathiram. This much anticipated spy thriller directed by Gautham Menon is expected to hit screens by the end of this year. After wrapping up Dhruva Natchathiram, Vikram will be joining the sets of Saamy 2, directed by Hari.

Latest buzz is that Vikram has committed for a new project with acclaimed filmmaker Ram. Kalipuli Thaanu of V Creations will be funding this movie. The three-film-old Ram is known for his unique style of filmmaking that is miles away from the regular masala potboilers. All his three movies – Kattradhu Tamizh, Thanga Meengal and Taramani have won widespread acclaim.

Thanga Meengal, released in 2013 won three national awards including the award for best Tamil film. Ram is a much revered filmmaker and when he teams up with a phenomenal actor Vikram, the audience can certainly expect for a quality output.

It is still not known when Ram’s movie with Vikram will actually go on floors. Both of them are currently busy with their respective commitments. Ram is working on the final patch up works of Peranbu, his upcoming bilingual with Mammootty in the lead. The movie, which has been in the making for sometime now, is expected to release in December.

Vikram, meanwhile has finished shooting for Sketch, a mass entertainer directed by Vijay Chander of Vaalu fame. Vikram plays a North Chennai guy in the movie and Tamannaah plays his romantic interest. The movie is currently in the post production stage and is scheduled as a Christmas release.

Prithviraj’s latest release Adam Joan is doing pretty good business across all the release centres. The movie directed by Jinu Abraham is an emotional dark thriller, something very rarely explored in the grounds of Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj plays the titular role in this movie which also stars Rahul Madhav, Naren, Bhavana and Lena in prominent roles.

Adam Joan is Rahul Madhav’s second film with Prithviraj after Memories. Incidentally, Rahul has played Prithvi’s younger brother in both these movies. In a recent interview, Rahul was all praise for his co-star Prithviraj. He narrated an interesting incident that happening during the shoot. Since 90% of the portions of the movie was shot in Scotland, some foreign actors were also part of the cast.

A couple of foreign actors were playing policemen in the movie. While shooting for their scenes, Prithviraj intervened and corrected their mistakes in dialogue delivery and grammatical errors, taking the whole team by surprise. Rahul calls Prithviraj as an ‘encyclopedia of cinema‘. Apparently, the youngster is bowled over by Prithvi’s professionalism and his sound technical knowledge.

Adam Joan has won appreciation from the critics for it’s bold theme and a commendable effort by the team to try something unique. Prithviraj has delivered a wonderful performance while portraying a very emotional role. The line here was extremely thin as even an inch forward would have gone completely melodramatic. With the positive word of mouth, the movie is expected to do good business in the coming weeks also.

Ahaana Krishna paired opposite Tovino Thomas in Luca

Riding on a string of successful films, Tovino Thomas is going around bagging several new projects. He already has around five movies in his kitty and the latest to the list is ‘Luca’. The movie’s title poster was unveiled today by Tovino himself through his official Facebook page.

Luca, directed by Arun Bose stars Ahaana Krishna as the female lead. The actress made an impressive debut in 2014 with Rajeev Ravi’s Njan Steve Lopez after which she took a brief gap from acting. Ahaana was recently seen in a pivotal role as Nivin Pauly’s sister in Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela. Luca is her third movie where the doe eyed beauty will be romancing Tovino, who is one of the most happening actors in Mollywood currently.

Luca is scripted jointly by director Arun Bose along with Mridul George. Shankar and Kamal Haasan to reunite for the sequel of Indian!

There have been a lot of speculations about the next project of director Shankar after the magnum opus 2.0. Names like Vijay and Ajith have been doing the rounds for sometime but the latest buzz is that Kamal Haasan might be teaming up with Shankar, popularly known as Indian cinema’s ‘showman’.

As per grapevine, Kamal Haasan and Shankar are reuniting for the sequel to their blockbuster movie Indian. This is a highly exciting news for all cine lovers as Indian enjoys a cult status among the audience. Indian, released back in 1996 is a vigilante crime thriller film. Kamal Haasan played a dual role in the movie which also starred Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar and Sukanya.

Indian went on to win three National Film Awards including the best actor award for Kamal Haasan’s outstanding performance in the movie. The movie was also India’s official submission for the Academy Award for best foreign language film. Indian had an open climax which paved for several speculations regarding a possible sequel to the movie.

Meanwhile, both Shankar and Kamal Haasan are busy with their respective commitments. The director is busy working on 2.0, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead. Arvind Swamy-Indrajith starrer Naragasooran starts rolling!

We had earlier reported about Malayali actor Indrajith playing one of the leads in Naragasooran, directed by Karthick Naren of Dhuruvangal 16 fame. He will be seen as a police officer in this movie which also stars Arvind Swamy and Sundeep Kishan in major roles. Shriya Saran and Meesaya Murukku fame Aathmika will be playing the female leads.

Naragasooran, as per the makers, is a dark and emotionally intense suspense drama. The movie comes with the tagline ‘The tale of a fallen demon’. The movie is being jointly funded by filmmaker Gautham Menon under his banner Ondraga Entertainment. After being highly impressed by Karthick Naren’s debut movie Dhuruvangal 16, Gautham Menon himself came forward to produce the youngster’s second movie.

Shoot for the movie commenced today and the makers informed this with an intriguing poster. The 23-year-old Karthick Naren took both the audience and industry insiders by surprise with his debut directorial Dhuruvangal 16. The whodunit thriller starring Rahman in the lead emerged as a big sucesss; both critically and commercially.

Karthick has retained almost the same set of technicians for his new movie. Sujith Sarang is wielding the camera and Sreejith Sarang is in charge of the edits. Oppam and Maya fame Ron Ethan Yohaan has been roped in to handle the music department.

Official: Here’s the star-studded cast of Mani Ratnam’s next!

For the last few months, we have seen as a whole lot of speculations about the cast of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s next movie. Putting an end to all loose talks, the makers have finally released a press statement announcing the cast and crew of this much talked about movie.

Apparently, Mani Ratnam has pulled off one of the biggest casting coup of recent times by roping in a plethora of actors for this movie. Arvind Swamy, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Simbu, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh will be playing the lead roles in this yet-to-be titled movie.

The legendary filmmaker has also brought on board his regular set of technicians – composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Santhosh Sivan and editor Sreekar Prasad. This is obviously a mega budget movie and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies is funding it. Shoot for the movie will bd commencing by January next year.

Aishwarya Rajesh, who is playing one of the female leads, in a recent interview said that it will be a thriller, a completely different one from Mani Ratnam’s earlier films. There is still no official information about this upcoming movie’s genre.

Mani Ratnam’s last release was Kaatru Veliyidai, an intense love story starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. Released amidst high expectations, the movie ended up as a disappointing affair at the box office. So, the director will be itching to bounce back to winning ways. By roping in such a stellar cast, the master has once again shown that he still has some tricks up his sleeve.
