Kerala Gross Office: Chunkzz Collection Report 7 Days

Happy Wedding fame Omar Lulu’s second outing Chunkzz was released on August 4. The movie was met with mediocre reviews from critics with many slamming the excessive usage of adult jokes. However, all that has not affected the business side of the movie.

According to latest reports from our trade sources, Chunkzz has grossed Rs 7.20 crores from its first week theatrical run in the Kerala box office. This is indeed a great opening considering the fact that most of the lead actors were youngsters and the overflow of negative reviews from the critics. Social media promotions undertaken by the makers have also done wonders to box office earnings of Chunkzz.

The movie stars Aanandam fame Vishak Nair, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi, Honey Rose, Mareena Michael and Dharmajan in major roles. It is a fun filled entertainer revolving around a group of engineering students. Honey Rose’s Riya is the sole girl in the mechanical engineering department and Mareena Michael plays the role of Sherin, a DJ based in Bangalore. The movie’s plot evolves with a trip to Goa. Veteran actors Siddique and Lal are also part of the cast.

Three newcomers Sanoop Thykoodam, Joseph Vijeesh and Aneesh Hameed have scripted this movie. They have jointly written the screenplay and dialogues for Omar Lulu’s story. The movie is produced by Vyshak Rajan under his banner Vaishaka Movies.

Kerala Box Office : Vikram Vedha Collection Report 21 days

Vikram Vedha, the cop-gangster drama starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathy has emerged as one of the biggest hits in Kollywood this year. This Gayathri-Pushkar directorial hit screens on July 21. The movie opened to unanimously positive reviews with critics heaping praise on the lead actors for their wonderful performance.

In Kerala box office, the movie had a good opening as youngsters thronged the theatres in large numbers. Vijay Sethupathy’s new found mass appeal and the hugely positive word of mouth in social medias increased the box collections.

According to collection reports from our trade sources, Vikram Vedha has managed to gross Rs 6.60 crores from the Kerala box office. This is a pretty decent figure considering the lack of promotions in the state. Worldwide, the movie has been doing some tremendous business.

Vikram Vedha is inspired from the popular folklore Vikram Bethal (Vikramdithyan and Vedhalam). The basic concept is borrowed from there and placed in an engaging cat and mouse game between a cop and a gangster. Madhavan plays the tough and forthright cop Vikram and Vijay Sethupathy plays the role of Vedha, a gangster with grey shades. The movie also stars Shraddha Srinath, Kathir, Hairsh Perady and Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar in prominent roles.

Ace director Rosshan Andrrews’ upcoming movie Kayamkulam Kochunni based on the life of the legendary thief is scheduled to go on floors by the end of September. Nivin Pauly is playing the titular role in this movie scripted by Bobby and Sanjay. Popular South Indian actress Amala Paul was roped in to play the female lead.

Recently, the sketches of Amala Paul’s character in the movie was released by the makers. The actress will be undergoing a vinatge makeover for the film. Amala sports an age old hairstyle and silver ornaments. Earlier, Nivin’s character look had him in a beefed up look with a twirled moustache. Since all the characters needed certain looks, the makers have roped in designers Dhanya and Ranjith for special makeup and costumes.

The makers are currently busy finalizing the cast and crew members. Kannada actress Priyanka Thimmesh, Sunny Wayne, veteran Tamil actor Sarath Kumar and Angamaly Diaries fame Sarath Kumar have already been confirmed.

Bobby and Sanjay have scripted Kayamkulam Kochunni after doing extensive research works for around two years. The movie will explore several unknown aspects of Kochunni’s life from how he became a rebel to his love life.

Renowned technicians like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan, sound designer PM Satheesh and Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran, are part of this project. This big budget venture is being funded by Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films. Uduppi, Mangalore and Sri Lanka have been finalized as the major locations.

Few months back, we had reported about Tovino Thomas doing a Malayalam/Tamil bilingual film. The first look posters of both the versions were released today by the makers. The Malayalam version has been titled as Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum and the Tamil version is titled as Abhiyum Anuvum. Lead actors Tovino and Pia Bajapi feature in the first look poster.

Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum is directed by cinematographer BR Vijayalakshmi. She is noted for being Asia’s first woman cinematographer. She has worked in several films as DOP and has also scripted the Malayalam movie Daddy, which had Arvind Swamy in the lead.

Her upcoming directorial is tipped to be romantic film based on a real life incident that happened in Latin America. Udayabanu Maheshwaran has penned the story and screenplay for this upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual.

Vikram Mehra and BR Vijayalakshmi are jointly funding this movie under the banner of Yoodlee Films. Ace cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santhosh Sivan is serving as an executive producer for this movie. It is funded under the banner of Yoodle Films and is slated to hit screens on September 22.

As we had reported we have last day, the team of Tovino Thomas’ upcoming movie Tharangam has come up with a very interesting teaser. It is an audio only teaser that comprises of some popular dialogues from yesteryear Malayalam movies.

Tharangam marks the directorial debut of Arun Dominic. He has previously worked on the screenplay of Style starring Unni Mukundan and Tovino Thomas. Tharngam is a black comedy which features Tovino and Balu Varghese as policemen.

Tovino is playing the role of sub inspector Padmanabhan. He is always accompanied by Balu Varghese’s character Joy. Both of them are suspended from the police force for being part of an authorized mission that lead to the death of a police officer.

Newcomer Neha Iyer and Santhy Balachandran play the female leads in Tharangam. Manoj K Jayan, Dileesh Pothen, Vijayaraghavan, Alencier Ley Lopez and Shammy Thilakan are also part of the cast. Tamil actor Dhanush is making an entry to Mollywood by producing this movie under his banner Wunderbar Films.

Legendary director Mani Ratnam’s movies have always generated immense curiosity among the audience. Ever since the release of his last film Kaatru Veliyidai, there have been a lot of speculations about the lead actors of his next film. Telugu actor Ram Charan has been holding talks with the director for sometime now and if reports are to be believed the project has been confirmed as a trilingual in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

According to latest reports, the veteran filmmaker has roped in Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sarah Ali Khan to pair opposite Ram Charan in his movie. Sarah will be making her South Indian debut with this movie which is tipped to be a romantic entertainer.

“Sara might play the lead role, but it has not been confirmed yet. Only initial talks have taken place. The project might be a Telugu-Hindi-Tamil trilingual”, a source is quoted saying to DC.

Sara is the elder daughter of Saif Ali Khan-Amrita Singh couple. She is said to be making her much awaited Bollywood debut opposite Tiger Shoff with Student Of The Year 2. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is funding this movie.

Meanwhile, there are also reports about Madhavan, Vijay Sethupathy and Fahadh Faasil teaming up for a Mani Ratnam movie with Kaatru Veliyidai’s heroine Aditi Rao Hydari in one of the lead roles. However, it is not sure which of the two projects will take off first.

Confirmed: Shraddha Kapoor to play Prabhas’ pair in Saaho

Baahubali star Prabhas’ upcoming movie Saaho has been in the news ever since the project was announced. This multilingual directed by Sujeeth is highly anticipated by the audience as it is Prabhas’ first film in five years apart from the Baahuabli films. Saaho is a big budget project and the makers are roping in actors from various industries to give it a pan Indian appeal.

Several names like Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Pooja Hegde and Anushka Shetty were doing the rounds for the movie’s female lead. Anushka was even confirmed to play the female lead before she got dropped owing to weight issues. Finally, putting an end to all specualtions the makers have finally signed Shraddha Kapoor to pair opposite Prabhas.

It must be remembered that Shraddha was initially approached for the movie but they dropped the idea of casting her as she demanded a huge sum as remuneration. Now it seems like she has decided to take a pay cut. The Aashiqui 2 actress was roped in as the makers felt that she suits the character perfectly.

Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh was earlier brought on board to play the antagonist. Promising Tamil actor Arun Vijay will also be seen in a very prominent important role in the film.

Saaho is produced by Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the banner of UV Creations. To cash in on the huge popularity of Prabhas, the makers are releasing the film in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam languages.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is handling the music department and renowned cinematographer R Madhie will be cranking the camera. International stuntman Kenny Bates, popular for his work in Hollywood films like Die Hard and Transformers has been roped in to choreograph the high octane stunts in Saaho.

The film will be shot in Hyderabad, Romania, Abu Dhabi and locations across Europe. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of next year.

Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer starring Mohanlal will only go on floors next year but the movie has now been in the talks for over an year now. That is the level of expectations about this film as two of the biggest stars in Malayalam cinema are teaming up for the first time. Murali Gopy, known for his powerful writings is scripting this film and it will be produced under the banner of Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas.

Ever since the announcement, there have been several speculations about the genre and theme of this film. But the makers have remained tight lipped about what exactly this much awaited movie is all about. In a recent interview to Film Companion, Prithviraj gave some hints about the project. He was asked about his thoughts on the huge expectations and whether he is tensed about it.

Prithviraj is quoted saying, “I know that people who know me within the industry – they think it’s going to be one technical showcase and all that but it’s not. It’s going to be pretty much an actor’s film, I’m going to be shooting the actors. I would like my film to have great performances and it’s written by Murali, so, like all Murali Gopy films, it’s going to be intense. Unlike Tiyaan, it’s a film based completely on the ground reality in Kerala, so that’s all I can tell you right now.”

Murali Gopy has already proved his mettle as a writer with some of his works like Left Right Left, Ee Adutha Kaalathu and 1 by Two. He has repeatedly said that he is aware of Mohanlal’s stardom but assured that there will not be any compromise on the content or quality. The makers are planning to start the shoot by May next year.
