I’ve become a big fan of Dileesh Pothan: Lal Jose

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, the latest outing from the Maheshinte Prathikaram duo of Fahadh Faasil and director Dileesh Pothan has been gettting tremendous response from all corners ever since its release on June 30. Critics as well as the common audience have showered praise on the team for delivering such a quality film.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum was release amidst great expectations as Dileesh Pothan’s debut film Maheshinte Prathikaram was widely appreciated, which also went on to win a couple of National awards as well. So, naturally there was a immense hype surrounding his second film but the director has ensured that none of that affected his craft.

Dileesh Pothan, with just two films to his name, has already established himself as one of the leading filmmakers of the current crop. Recently, directors like Lijo Jose Pellissery and B Unnikrishnan had come out appreciating Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum and the team behind the movie.

Latest to join the list is veteran filmmaker Lal Jose, who in his Facebook page has written that he has officially entered Dileesh’s fan club. Lal Jose’s Facebook post reads,

It’s tough to surprise people when you are already waiting for a surprise, and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksaakshiyum’ made that happen. The greatest challenge before a successful debutant director is his second film and ‘Dileesh Pothan’ brought us an extraordinary film again. Congrats Dileesh for this brilliant effort! I am officially into the fan-club of yours 🙂

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum stars Fahadh Faasil, Suraj Venjaramoodu and debutante Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles. The movie, written by Sajeev Pazhoor is centred around a newly married couple who encounter a thief during a bus journey. They are taken to a police station and rest of the events are set in the police station and it’s premises.

Inspired by the excellent response that the movie has been getting, the makers have also released it in foreign countries like Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei. The movie is produced by Sandeep Senan and Aneesh M Thomas under the banner of Urvashi Theatres.

Basheerinte Premalekhanam to hit screens on July 21

Director Aneesh Anwar’s Basheerinte Premalekhanam is all set to hit screens on July 21. The movie features Njan Steve Lopez fame Farhaan Faasil and Mariyamukku fame Sana Althaf in the lead roles. Veteran actors Madhu and Sheela are also playing prominent parts in the movie.

Basheerinte Premalekhanam is a romantic comedy revolving around the incidents that occurs after the arrival of an Onida TV in a fictional village in the 80s. The songs and promo trailer has already created a buzz in social medias.

Songs composed by Vishnu Mohan Sithara have already struck a chord with the audience. The movie has a huge supporting cast which includes Aju Varghese, Joy Mathew, Harish Kanaran, Shanavas, Manikandan Achari, Sreejith Ravi, Sohan Seenulal, Asha Aravind, Sunil Sugatha and Shivaji Guruvayoor among others.

Basheerinte Premalekhanam is written jointly by Shinod Sivam, Bipin K Paulose and Shamseer Ahamed. The movie’s cinematography is handled by 20-year-old Sanjay Harris. Notably, he is the youngest cameraman in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Basheerinte Premalekhanam is produced by P M Harris and Mohammed Althaf under the banner Fort Entertainment.

Director Mani Ratnam’s last release was Kaatru Veliyidai, an intense romance drama starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the leads. The movie opened to extreme reviews with some calling it another great work from the legend while some criticised it as an underwhelming experience. Post the release of Kaatru Veliyidai there has been a lot of speculations about Mani Ratnam’s next project.

Mani Ratnam has been in talks with Telugu star Ram Charan for sometime now and it seems like things are finally falling in place. The director has already roped in Santhosh Sivan to wield the camera for the movie. This will be their sixtg collaboration after creating magic on screen with films like Thalapathy, Roja, Iruvar, Dilse/Uyire and Ravan/Raavanan.

Each of these works were spectacular in terms of visual story telling and Santhosh Sivan deservedly won the National Awards two times, for Dilse and Iruvar. The ace cinematographer is presently working on AR Murugadoss’ upcoming Telugu film starring Mahesh Babu in the lead.

An official announcement regarding Mani Ratnam’s next film is expected in the coming days.

Rana Daggubati regards Nivetha Thomas as Telugu cinema’s best find in recent times

Nivetha Thomas, who made her debut in movies as a child artist in Jayaram’s Veruthe Oru Bharya is now a popualr actress in Telugu industry. She has some exciting projects in her kitty while her latest release Ninnu Kori is getting excellent response from across the globe.

Ninnu Kori is a triangular love story starring Nani, Aadhi Pinisetty and Nivetha Thomas. The movie is directed by debutant Shiva Nirvana. Critics have praised the movie and the perfomances of the lead actors. Nivetha Thomas plays the character Pallavi who is the the element of conflict between the two men.

Baahuabli star Rana Daggubati was impressed by Nivetha’s performance so much so that he called her Telugu cinema’s best find in recent years. Rana in his Twitter page has written,

This is quite a big compliment for Nivetha who is starting to establish herself in the industry. She made her debut in Tollywood last year with the movie Gentleman once again starring Nani in the lead. Gentleman was a superhit movie which paved way for more offers for Nivetha. She will be next seen in Jr NTR’s Jai Lava Kusa also starring Raashi Khanna. The movie directed by KS Ravindra will hit screens worldwide on 21 September.

Suriya and Jyothika are one of the most favourite celebrity couples in the South. They are loved by everyone and they are what one calls an ‘ideal couple’. It is very common in award shows and public events to see Suriya and Jyothika holding hands and greeting everyone with a beaming smile.

Post their wedding in 2006, Jyothika took a break from her acting commitments. She made a comeback in 2015 with 36 Vayadhinile, once her kids- Dev and Diya grew up. Suriya has been a constant pillar of support for Jyothika and she happily repeats this in every public event she attends.

Jyothika is cureently busy promoting her next release Magalir Mattum, which is being produced by Suirya’s 2D Entertainment. She recently attended the popular celebrity chat show Anbudan DD as part of promotions. The host showed a lovely picture of Suriya and Jyothika on screen and she just could not stop talking about her husband.

Jyothika said that she cannot talk enough about Suriya and that they could do a separate show just on this. She shared about how caring Suriya is and how he stands up for her and family by never letting them down.

She said, “I’ve never made even a cup of coffee for him, but then he’s never expected me to make it either.” When DD asked Jyothika about her idea of love, she shared her perspective. “Love is all about being selfless, thinking more about what the other person needs rather than what you need. It’s about giving your partner more place than yourself.”

Jyothika said she has met many people at school and work but she has never met anyone like Suriya. More than a husband, Jyo sees Suirya as her parent who takes good care of her. She added that she would be happy if her son gets at least half of Suriya’s qualities.

Asif Ali’s upcoming movie Sunday Holiday is gearing up for release. The movie, written and directed by Jis Joy stars Maheshinte Prathikaram fame Aparna Balamurali and Pretham fame Sruthi Ramachandran as the female leads.

New song from the movie was released today. Lyrics for the song ‘Oru Nokku Kaanuvan’ is written by the director Jis Joy himself. Karthik has sung this romantic track composed by Deepak Dev. Asif Ali and Sruthi Ramachandran feature in the video.

Sunday Holiday promises to be a clean feel good entertainer. Director Jis Joy is noted for his debut movie Bicycle Thieves also starring Asif Ali in the lead. According to the director, Sunday Holiday will have a very realistic romantic thread told in a two layered narrative. One is about an incident that happens on a particular Sunday, while the rest will explore the life of a band set master and his son.

Alencier Ley Lopez, Asha Sharath, Nirmal Palazhy, Siddique, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bhagath Manuel, KPAC Lalitha and Sudheer Karamana are playing supporting characters in the movie.

Action Hero Biju fame Alex J Pulickal has cranked the camera and Ratheesh Raj has handled the edits. Sunday Holiday is produced by Sheen Helen under the banner of Maqtro Pictures.

According to latest collection reports, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum has grossed Rs 8.80 days from its 7 days theatrical run in Kerala alone. There is a steep increase in the collections as the first day gross was Rs 1.51 crores.
The figures are steadily progressing thanks to the positive word of mouth.

Director Mohan Raja’s Thani Oruvan is undoubtedly one of the most talked about Tamil films in recent times. The movie starring Jayam Ravi, Aravind Swamy and Nayanthara in the lead roles was a huge success, both critically and commercially.

Inspired by it’s sensational success, the movie was remade in Telugu as Dhruva with Ram Charan and Aravind Swamy in the lead roles. Now, the movie is getting a Hindi version as filmmaker Sabbir Khan has signed the deal with a prominent production house in Mumbai.

Sabbir Khan has made three films as of now- Heropanti, Bhaagi and the upcoming Munna Michael, all three starring Tiger Shroff in the lead. As per reports, the director is trying to rope in young stars Arjun Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra to play the leads in the Hindi remake of Thani Oruvan.

Thani Oruvan is about a righteous cop trying to put an end to a rogue scientist and his crime world. Jayam Ravi played the police officer’s role in the movie and Nayanthara was paired opposite him. Aravind Swamy essayed the negative role in the movie.

Rumours are abuzz that Arjun Kapoor will be reprising Aravind Swamy’s role from the original. The veteran actor won rave reviews for his portayal of Sidharth Abhimanyu, a villain who is in stark contrast to the ones that we usually get to see in commercial movies. Eventhough Arjun Kapoor has done grey shaded characters in films like Ishaqzaade, Aurangazeb and Gunday, this will be quite a challenge as he has got some very big shoes to fill.

Both Sidharth Malhotra and Arjun Kapoor are yet to sign the dotted lines. An official announcement regarding the project is expected to be made in the coming days.

We had already told you that Dulquer Salmaan is making his entry in Telugu cinema with the Nag Ashwin directorial Mahanati. The movie is a biopic on yesteryear actress Savitri and is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. Shoot for the movie commenced last month and Dulquer Salmaan joined the team recently.

Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are playing major roles in the movie. Keerthy Suresh is playing Savitri’s role and Dulquer is playing the role of legendary actor Gemini Ganesan in this movie. The late actor was married to Savitri briefly.

Recently, shooting spot stills from the movie were seen trending virally across social media platforms. Dulquer is seen sporting a thin line moustche, the famous Gemini Ganesan look. As they say, an actor’s job is half done once he looks the part. It is true in Mahanati’s case as Dulquer looks convincing in this new getup. Reportedly, he will be playing the different phases of the late actor, for which he will be sporting multiple looks.
Samantha is playing the role of a journalist in Mahanati. The movie which revolves around Savithri’s personal life and her acting career. It will also capture the tragic episodes in her life.

Mahanati is being directed by Nag Ashwin, who made a mark in Telugu cinema with his superhit flick, Yevade Subramanyam. He has informed that Mahanati will be a magnum opus period film set in the golden era. With massive set pieces, the film will be unlike anything previously seen in Indian cinema.
