Samuthirakani opens up about why Varalaxmi Sarathkumar walked out of Jayaram’s Aakasha Mittayee

We had earlier reported about Varalaxmi Sarathkumar walking out of Jayaram’s upcoming movie Aakasha Mittayee citing differences with the movie’s producers.

Varalaxmi who made her Mollywood debut through Mammootty’s Kasaba, was roped in to play the female lead in actor/director Samuthirakani’s debut directorial in Malayalam, Aakasha Mittayee. It is the official remake of Samuthirakani’s Tamil movie Appa.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was roped in to play Jayaram’s wife in the movie. The actress had attended the switch on ceremony and shot for three days. After three days, she walked out of the project. She later tweeted,

Thnk u to Samuthirakani sir n Jayaram sir for hvng supported my decision.. can’t work wid male chauvinists n mannerless prods..#respectwomen

In their defence, the producer said that Varalaxmi doesn’t suit for the character in the movie. They said that she was approached after her looks and performance in Kasaba. But the actress had shed down her weight which apparently doesn’t suit the character as she had to play the role of a teenager in the movie.

However, director of the movie Samuthirakani, in a recent interview, has given a different story for Varalaxmi opting out. Apparently, the actress was unhappy with her accommodation. She had informed the same to production assistants and asked them to get a room in a star hotel which the production team couldn’t arrange.

Samuthirakani says that the movie is made on a very small budget and hence all the actors and technicians were staying together in a hotel. Varalaxmi was unhappy with the hotel room facilities and the food. She had a few arguments with the production team over that. An exchange of few words forced her to opt out of the project. The director added that he had no problems with the actress’ decision.

Popular actress Ineya has replaced Varalaxmi in Akasha Mittayee. The movie is produced by Maha Subair under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.

Mohanlal is my favourite actor and I admire Aamir Khan: Maheshinte Prathikaram fame Lijomol Jose

Lijomol Jose has caught the attention of the Malayali audience with just two movies. In Dileesh Pothen’s Maheshinte Prathikaram she played Artist Baby’s daughter Sonia. Her realistic performance in a de-glam look won her a lot of appreciation. She was later roped in to play one of the female leads in Nadirshah’s Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan. Lijomol Jose has already signed for some exciting projects including a Mammootty starrer.

In a recent interview, the actress was asked about her favourite actors. Lijomol instantly replied that Mohanlal is her favourite actor as she feels that he can play any role effortlessly well. She was quick to add about her admiration for Aamir Khan. Among actresses, she named Parvathy Menon as her current favourite.

Lijomol will be next seen in Honey Bee 2.5 opposite Aksar Ali, Asif Ali’s brother. The movie, directed by Shyju Anthikad, is an one of a kind attempt in Mollywood. It is a realistic take on the events happening within a cinema set. The movie was shot in the sets of Lal Jr’s Honey Bee 2: Celebrations.

Lijomol Jose is also playing a pivotal role in renowned cinematographer Shamdat Sainudeen’s directorial debut Streetlights. The movie, starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead is touted to be a crime thriller.

Mammootty himself is producing this movie under his home production banner Playhouse Pictures. Streetlights doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters. Along with Lijomol Jose many other actors including Joy Mathew, Soubin Shahir, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Harish Kanaran and Dharmajan Bolgatty will be seen in pivotal characters.
