“Who else can play Mohanlal’s character in Naran?”, asks Ranjan Pramod

Biju Menon’s next with scriptwriter turned director Ranjan Pramod’s Rakshadhikari Baiju is gearing up for release. Rakshadhari Baiju is a mass comedy entertainer featuring Biju Menon in the title role, as an employee in the irrigation department. The movie will follow an unique pattern of story telling and will be entirely different from Ranjan Pramod’s earlier works.

Ranjan Pramod has scripted some acclaimed super hit movies like Meesa Madhavan, Manasinakkare and Achuvinte Amma. But the biggest hit in his career came in the form of Joshiy’s Naran starring Mohanlal in the lead.

Naran, released in 2005 was a huge blockbuster. Ranjan Pramod had scripted a perfect commercial entertainer revolving around the character Velayudhan and his village Mullankolli.

In a recent chat session with Onlookers Media, Ranjan Pramod talked in detail more about Naran and Mohanlal’s portrayal of the rustic and good at heart Velayudhan. Ranjan Pramod feels that there is no other actor who could play that character with such elan. Kn fact, that’s the reason why the movie has not been remade in any languages, despite being a huge commercial success.

He said, “I don’t think anyone else could play that character convincingly like how Mohanlal did. That character is not very loud but some of actions turned into such a strong and powerful one. The character has many shades like subtle humour, anger, emotions and machismo. There is no mass fight sequences in Naran where the hero fights down ten others. Even then, Naran is regarded as an action movie. “

Naran also featured Bhavana, Innocent, Deyavani, Madhu, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, Maamukoya, Bheeman Raghu and Sona Nair in supporting roles. The movie was a clean commercial entertainer with equal doses of humours, actions and sentiments. Mohanlal’s daredevilry stunts without dupes in adverse climatic conditions in a flooded river was a huge talk during that time.

Prayaga Martin speaks up on the allegations against her for mistreating a makeup assistant

We had recently reported about some allegations made against actress Prayaga Rose Martin for treating a makeup assistant harshly. It was alleged that she tried to slap him in front of the entire unit and he was forced to apologize to her in front of the entire unit.

The incident occurred at director PT Kunju Muhammed’s upcoming movie Vishwasapoorvam Mansoor, in which Prayaga is playing the female lead. Art director of the movie Girish Menon updated a Facebook status explaining how the actress behaved and her show of arrogance to a makeup assistant. The post went viral and social media users turned their ire against the actress.

Prayaga, who kept silent about the allegations initially, has now made her statement while talking to a popular Malayalam daily.

According to her, “Shoot for that day was scheduled for early morning. I have no makeup for my role in the movie. The director had told me that my face should have a dull appearance for that particular scene. So he instructed a makeup assistant from the location to use shades to make my face look dull. While applying the makeup, he asked me “Who do you think you are?” He spewed his anger on me. The director and others were sitting beside me at that time. He used words that should not have been said to a girl.

I did not want the shoot to be interrupted, so continued shooting. After that I informed my parents about the incident. My mom accompanied me to the set and asked him why he shouted against me. He then started to raise his voice against my mom and stared obscenely at me. Provoked by his behavior, I raised my finger against him. He caught hold of me and punched me in my left hand. Onlookers from the location immediately pulled him back. I reported the incident to AMMA members (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). They promised me full support in the issue. I did not register a police complaint following my director Kunju Muhammed’s instructions. The issue was settled within the location and he apologized to me before everyone.

However, he feared a legal action and sought his friends’ help. The art director, who was not even there in the location during that time, updated about the incident and wrote that I slapped him, in his Facebook post which went viral. After the intervention of AMMA, he was forced to remove the post. Right now, I am not planning to move legally after AMMA’s instructions. I am sure they will look into this matter seriously and solve the issue. There should not be any such incident in the future, against a woman in the Malayalam film industry.

Meanwhile, social media users accused the actress for her arrogance at such an early stage of her career. Now that Prayaga has made her part clear, let’s wait and see what action is taken by the film groups and AMMA.

Prayaga Martin made her debut as a lead actress through director Mysskin’s horror thriller Pisaasu. She has also acted in five Malayalam movies- Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya, PaVa, Ore Mukham, Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan and Fukri. The actress’ next release will be Ramaleela, where she is playing the female lead opposite Dileep.
