Prayaga Martin’s show of arrogance in shooting set; social media turns their ire against the actress

Actress Prayaga Rose Martin is alleged to have treated a makeup man harshly and tried to slap him in front of the entire unit. The incident happened at the location of an upcoming movie when the director and cameraman had asked the makeup man to tone down Prayaga’s facial makeup a bit.

Apparently, the actress became infuriated when he approached her to tone down the makeup. She and her mother, who had accompanied her on the sets, were unhappy with lessening the makeup as they felt it will dull her face on screen.

When the make up man insisted, Prayaga raised against him and started scolding him in front of the whole unit. He had asked her not to raise her finger against him which further enraged the actress. She had apparently raised her hand to slap him before he caught hold. He was later forced to apologize in front of the whole unit.

Art director Girish Menon who had witnessed the incident in the location had written about it on his Facebook page which later went viral. Social media users have turned their ire against the actress for showing her arrogance. Industry insiders accuse that even senior actors treat makeup assistants and fellow unit members with respect but it is the younger generation of actors who mistreat their assistants.

Prayaga Martin made her debut as a lead actress through Tamil director Mysskin’s horror thriller Pisaasu. She has also acted in five Malayalam movies- Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya, PaVa, Ore Mukham, Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan and Fukri. The actress is currently shooting for Dileep’s Ramaleela and PT Kunju Muhammed’s Vishwasapoorvam Mansoor.

Sathyan Anthikad’s choice of unconventional actors in recent times

Sathyan Anthikad’s choice of unconventional actors in recent times

Malayalam cinema of late has witnessed the rise of many natural and unrefined actors. Some of the movies in the recent past have rewritten the norms associated with a cine actor. In the past, only actors with the conventional good looks and those who did the do-gooder roles were accepted by the majority audience.

But now the trend has changed. People have started to accept and appreciate actors regardless of their looks and background. Now it all comes down to how good their performance is while playing that particular character.

Sathyan Anthikad, one of the senior most directors in Mollywood currently, in a recent interview picked six unconventional actors of his choice.

Sunny Wayne in Ann Maria Kalipilanu, Shivaji Guruvayoor in Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Manikandan Achari in Kammattipadam, Sarath Kumar and Sinoj Varghese in Angamaly Diaries and Soubin Shahir were his picks.

Sunny Wayne’s performance as Poombatta Gireesh in Ann Maria Kalipilanu earned him widespread appreciation. The movie gave him a big break after a series of duds while playing the lead roles.

Shivaji Guruvayoor in Sathyan Anthikad’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal played the role of a loyal and trusted friend of Mukesh’s character Vincent in the movie. Though it was a brief role, his performance was praiseworthy.

Manikandan Achari won the award for the second best actor of the State in his debut movie itself. His performance as Balan in Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipadam was undoubtedly one of the best ever from a debutant. He owned a space of his own in the movie despite the presence of actors like Dulquer Salmaan and Vinayakan.

Sarath Kumar, a theatre artist, garnered praise from all corners for his tremendous performance as Appani Ravi in Angamaly Diaries. His appearance was exactly the opposite of a typical antagonist. He did not have the ripped physique or size that we normally expect from a filmy villain. Sarath with his impeccable performance showed that physical appearance is never a factor for a talented actor. He is a highly promising talent and surely has a bright career ahead.

Sinoj Varghese was the dim witted Kunjoottan in Angamaly Diaries. His comic timing was excellent in the movie and his song ‘Chayakkada kaara’ has been trending virally in social media pages.

Soubin Shahir over the past few has proven himslef as a good actor. His style of spontaneous humour is a trend among the youngsters. Crispin of Maheshinte Prathikaram and Premam’s PT Sir are two of his most famous characters.

Families impressed with C/O Saira Banu

Debutant director Antony Sony’s C/O Saira Banu, released on March 17, is getting good reports from all the centres. Critics have rated it as a good watch that can be enjoyed with families. The movie stars Manju Warrier in the titular role and it also marks the comeback of yesteryear actress Amala Akkineni to Mollywood after a gap of over two decades. Kismath fame Shane Nigam has also played a major role in the movie.

C/O Saira Banu was released alongside Sunny Wayne’s Alamara which has failed to get good reviews. The fact that most of the releases in the past few weeks have been youthful entertainers have worked well for C/O Saira Banu. Family audience have taken a particular liking for the movie and Manju Warrier’s presence is another major factor to get the attention of the families.

Manju Warrier has played a post woman in the movie while Shane Nigam is her adopted son, Joshua Peter. He is a law college student who wishes to become a photographer just like his father. However, fate has something else in store and he gets caught in legal issues. Amala is seen in the role of advocate Annie John Tharavady in her comeback movie.

Manju Warrier’s performance as the cheerful Muslim woman Saira Banu is rated by many as her best after she made the sensational comeback in 2014. Eventhough her performance could not match up to those in her prime time, it’s certainly her best in recent times.

As Saira Banu, she is lively and energetic in the inital half and was equally good in the emotional scenes towards the end. The movie is scripted by newbie RJ Shaan and Bipin Chandran has written the dialogues. Cinematography is handled by Abdul Rahim while Sagar Dass is in charge of the edits. Mejo Joseph is the music director. Eros International has bank rolled the movie.
