Preview show for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s upcoming movie Angamaly Diaries was organised for selected few invitees, yesterday at PAN Cinemas, Nucleus Mall in Kochi.
Popular filmmakers like Lal Jose, Sibi Malayil and actors like Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Asif Ali, Chandini Sreedharan, Aparna Balamurali, Anu Mol and many others attended the preview show along with the whole cast and crew of Angamaly Diaries.

Sreenivasan lost 15 kg for his role in Ayal Sasi
We are used to seeing stars beefing up or shedding a few kilos for playing a particular character. But, it’s not often that we hear about aged character actors going the extra yard to perfect their looks for a movie. Veteran actor Sreenivasan, has stunned everyone by losing around 15 kilos to play the lead role in his upcoming movie, Ayal Sasi.
Sreenivasan is playing a 65 year old character in the movie, directed by Sajin Babu. Ayal Sasi is a movie that will discuss about the economic, political and religious aspects in the society.
Sreenivasan’s character in the movie, Sasi will be seen as healthy and hale person at the beginning of the movie. He tries to become popular and lead a life by all means. Sasi is someone who wants to create an identity of his own.
The director in a recent interview shared more details about the character, “As a youngster Sasi relocates to city from outskirts and tries his hands at everything from loan-sharking to art. He buys paintings from fine arts students at paltry sums and then holds exhibitions posing as the artist.”
Sreenivasan had a low calorie diet for almost four months to lose his weight. Interestingly, the actor worked in the movie without taking any remuneration. Kochu Preman, Anil Nedumangadu, Rajesh Sharma and Kammattipadam fame Divya Gopinath are also part of the cast.
Ayal Sasi is produced by P Sukumar and Sudheesh Pillai.
Amala Paul’s ex-husband AL Vijay planning to remarry?
It was only last week that AL Vijay and Amala Paul were granted divorce by the Chennai family court after living separately for the past few months. The latest we hear is that AL Vijay is planning to get married again.
Popular producer and AL Vijay’s father AL Alagappan has taken on the responsibility of finding his son a suitable life partner. There are even reports that Amala Paul stopped shooting after she was upset with the news.
Amala Paul – AL Vijay couple’s relationship was a celebrated affair. Cupid struck on the sets of Deiva Thirumagal in 2011. Amala played a pivotal role in the movie directed by Vijay. They got married three years later in June 2014.
Post their seperation, Amala Paul went on a signing spree. She is currently shooting for Vetrimaaran’s epic gangster drama Vada Chennai, starring Dhanush in the lead. She is also part of VIP 2 that stars Dhanush and Kajol in major roles.
Recently, we had also reported that Amala will be playing the female lead in Bhaskar The Rascal remake opposite Aravind Swamy. She will be reprising Nayanthara’s role from the original. She has also signed for the Malayalam remake of Bollywood blockbuster Queen, which will be directed by Revathy.
Vijay gifted chains to Bairavaa team not to celebrate the movie’s success: Vijay’s PRO
We had recently reported about distributor Tirupur Subramaniam alleging Ilayathalapathy Vijay for gifting gold chains to the members of the Bairavaa team in a success meet.
Tirupur Subramaniam had bought the distributions rights for Vijay’s latest release Bairavaa, for a huge amount. Recently he said that he had incurred a loss of over 1.64 crores after the movie failed to do good business in the box office. He alleged that it was not right to have a success meet when the distributors are facing massive losses.
Following the distributors allegations, Vijay’s PRO has now cleared airs about the issue. He said that it has been a common practice by many leading stars to gift the crew members. He said, “Vijay had gifted gold chains only for his personal satisfaction for working with a comfortable and hardworking Bairavaa team and this is not related to the success of the movie.”
Suriya also gifted a Toyota Fortuner to director Hari after the release of their latest movie Singam 3 aka Si3. Subramaniam came down heavily at the leading stars and accused them of living in a fantasy world where they like to believe that all their movies have become successful. He revealed that many movies that were declared to be super hit successes were actually huge failures at the box office.
The movies include Rajinikanth’s Kabali, Vijay’s Bairavaa, Suriya’s Singam 3, Sivakarthikeyan Remo, Karthi’s Kaashmora, Vishal’s Kaththi Sandai, Jayam Ravi’s Bogan and Dhanush’s Thodari and Kodi.
According to him, Kabali was a flop at the box office and Sivakarthikeyan’s Remo was successful only in two centres. The claims of Bairavaa and Suriya’s Si3 doing over Rs 100 crore business was fake and over hyped.
Fahadh Faasil’s next with Munnariyippu director Venu titled as Carbon
We had earlier told you that Fahadh Faasil will be teaming up with popular cinematographer turned filmmaker Venu. Mamta Mohandas is playing the female lead in this movie which has now been titled as Carbon.
This is the first time teaming up of Mamta Mohandas and Fahadh Faasil. The movie will be a raw suspense thriller, set in the backdrop of forests. It is reported that the the plot will discuss about the climate change and it’s consequences.
It will be exciting to watch two acting powerhouses together on screen. Fahadh and Mamta will certainly light up the screen with their impeccable acting skills.
In a recent interview, the actress said that she is very much excited to be part of the movie. She informed it will be a raw and realistic movie, more like a forest adventure.
Venu’s last directorial Munnariyippu, starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead earned widespread critical appreciation. The movie written by Unni R, was centred around a journalist and a convict, C.K. Raghavan. Aparna Gopinath played the journalist’s role in the movie.
Siddique wins Andhra Pradesh government’s Nandi Film Award
Veteran actor Siddique has won an honour in the Andhra Pradesh government’s Nandi Film Awards for the year 2013. The actor won the award for his performance in the National award winning movie Naa Bangaaru Talli.
Siddique is the first Malayali actor to bag an honour in the Nandi Film Awards. The actor delivered a stunning performance in Naa Bangaaru Talli, directed by Rajesh Touchriver. The movie was written by the director himself based on a real life story. Siddique, Anjali Patil, Rathna Shekar Reddy, Lakshmi Menon, and Neena Kurup played the major roles.
The movie discussed about the after effects of and testing the vulnerability of trust in human relations. The movie was also dubbed and released in Malayalam as Ente.
Naa Bangaaru Talli won awards in several international film festivals including the Best Film award at the Trinity International Film Festival in Detroit, and four major Awards at the Indonesian Film Festival. The movie also won three National awards including the award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.
Earlier in 2013, the Nandi Awards were stopped due to political agitation. After the bifurcation in 2014, there was a confusion regarding which of the two States- Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should give the awards.
Finally, Andhra Pradesh government has announced the Nandi Awards for the years 2012 and 2013.
Dulquer Salmaan commits another Tamil movie?
Mollywood’s young sensation Dulquer Salmaan extended his fan base to Tamil Nadu after the release of legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s OK Kanmani. He recently signed for a romantic travelogue with debutant Ra Karthik.
According to latest reports, the actor has signed for another film, this time with a noted short filmmaker. Desingh Periyasamy who was also an associate of Vijay Milton, will be directing this movie. More details regarding the project is not yet known.
Dulquer was recently seen shooting for Soubin Shahir’s debut directorial Parava. Dulquer is playing a cameo role in the movie. He will be next joining the second schedule of Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo. It is said to be an anthology of five stories and is made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Dulquer has also committed for movies with Lal Jose, debutant Salam Bukhari and Vysakh.
We had earlier reported that Dulquer’s Kollywood movie with Ra Karthik will be a romantic commercial entertainer and a travelogue kind of a story, on the lines of Bollywood movies Highway and Jab We Met.
The entire second half of the film is set in North India. The movie is said to have three heroines playing equally important characters. The makers have approached Gautham Menon’s Enai Noki Payum Thotta fame Megha Akash and Oru Naal Koothu fame Nivetha Pethuraj, but they are yet to sign on the dotted lines.
Lijo Jose Pellissery to direct Mammootty after Angamaly Diaries
Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries is all set to release on March 3, Friday. The movie is eagerly awaited by the cine lovers after the impressive trailer and songs. Including the lead actors, 85 new faces are part of the cast.
Lijo Jose Pellissery is renowned for his filmmaking style that is unique and different from the other mainstream directors. All his movies have a peculiar pattern and style that has been acclaimed by the movie buffs.
Earlier there were reports about the director teaming up with Megastar Mammootty. In an exclusive interview to Onlookers Media, the director was asked about the project. He said, “We had planned on such a project but it didn’t take off at that time. It is still in the early stages and nothing has been confirmed.”
Mammootty teaming up with the director will be an exciting prospect. It will be a refreshing change for the Megastar fans and the audience to see the actor in an all together different character. We wish they both team up soon.
Mammootty is currently busy shooting for 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s untitled family entertainer. He has also signed for movies with Vysakh, Ajai Vasudev, Sethu, Shafi, Nadirshah, Shamdat and a movie written by Joy Mathew. His next releaese is The Great Father, directed by debutant Haneef Adeni. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on March 30.
High expectations for Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj and Nivin Pauly
A brief period from 2012 to 2015 witnessed the fall of the big Ms and the rise of many youngsters. Mollywood started to spread wings outside Kerala riding on the back of these youngsters. It was time when people started to write off the superstars. Some even proclaimed that cinema has changed and hence the senior stars just doesn’t have anything new to bring on table.
Mohanlal
Come 2016 and things started to change. Mohanlal changed the course and became more selective. He forayed into Telugu industry through Vismayam, a critical success. He followed it up with Janatha Garage, a massive blockbuster. The movie was an hundred crore grosser and one of the biggest blockbusters in South India last year. By then Mohanlal had regained the touch and was itching to come back to Mollywood. He teamed up with Priyadarshan, another legend who was written off by the critics. Together they delivered Oppam, a 50 crore grosser.
Before the Oppam wave could settle in, Mohanlal’s highly anticipated Pulimurugan was released. The movie soon went on a record breaking spree and became the first ever Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club. His latest release, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has also touched the 50 crore mark and is still running successfully in theatres. He has also signed for some highly exciting projects for the next two years. With the success of the above mentioned movies, Mohanlal has put an end to his critics and naysayers in style.

Dulquer Salmaan
Dulquer Salmaan is currently the biggest crowd puller in Mollywood after Mohanlal. Dulquer’s range went to the next level after the release of the sensational Charlie in 2015. Post Charlie, he has starred in three movies- Kali, Kammatipaadam and Jomonte Suvisheshangal. He also did a guest appearance in Ann Maria Kalipilanu. While Kali was an average grosser, Kammattipadam was a super hit movie.
The recently released, Jomonte Suvisheshangal is also on course for a superhit success. Despite being a family entertainer, Jomonte Suvisheshangal registered an opening day collections of more than 2.6 crores. The actor’s next release Comrade In America aka CIA, directed by Amal Neerad is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. He will be looking forward to stamp his authority in the Kerala box office with the upcoming releases.
Nivin Pauly
Nivin Pauly is another big name in the industry. The actor who started from a non filmy background has now reached the pinnacles of success with his hardwork and perseverance. He has been the hit maker of Mollywood for sometime now. The actor just doesn’t seem to put a foot wrong. From 2014 to 2016, he starred in eight films in which he played major roles. Apart from Ivde, all other movies were successful. That speaks volumes about the rich purple patch that he is going through.
He has a few highly anticipated movies this year also like National award winner Sidharth Siva’s Sakhavu, Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon and Shyamaprasad’s Hey Jude. He has also signed for a few Tamil projects.

Prithviraj Sukumaran

Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Koottam loosely inspired from Special 26
We had already told you that Suriya is currently shooting for his upcoming movie Thaanaa Serntha Kootam (TSK) directed by Vignesh Shivan, who has previously helmed movies like Poda Podi and Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
According to latest reports from Kollywood media, TSK is loosely based on Akshay Kumar’s blockbuster movie Special 26. Some location stills from the Suriya starrer have striking resemblance to a few scenes from Special 26.
The movie, directed by Neeraj Pandey was about a team who hatch brilliant heist plans to loot money. It is inspired by the 1987 Opera House heist where a group posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers executed an income tax raid on the jeweler in Mumbai.
Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill, Rajesh Sharma and others form a group who loot money posing as government officials and CBI officers. Manoj Bajpai played the investigative officer who tries to catch the team red handed. Kajal Agarwal played Akshay Kumar’s romantic interest in the movie.
Special 26 is one of the best heist thrillers in recent times. The movie was unanimously appreciated by the critics and the audience and it went on to become a huge blockbuster.
According to reports, the basic plot of TSK is also the same though it is not an official remake of Special 26. Suriya is shedding nearly 10 kilos for his role in the movie. The movie stars K-Town’s current favourite Keerthy Suresh as the female lead, marking her first time union with Suriya.
Ramya Krishnan, Sathyan, popular comedian Senthil, Saranya Ponvannan, Kovai Sarala, KS Ravikumar, RJ Balaji, Anandraj, Thambi Ramaiah and many others are also part of the cast.
Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music while national award winner Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits.
Thaana Serntha Koottam is jointly produced by Suriya and KE Gnanavel Raja under the banners 2D Entertainment and Studio Green.
