Prem Nazir about Mohanlal and Mammootty

Evergreen hero Prem Nazir is one of the very few actors to have stardom all through their career. Even when he was at the fag end of his career and new superstars emerged, he still considered the evergreen hero material. He has shared screen space with stars like Sathyan, Madhu to Jayan, Sukumaran, Soman to Mohanlal and Mammootty.

Once in an interview, Prem Nazir was quizzed about who he thinks was a better actor. The actor made his point clear with a diplomatic reply. “I don’t like anyone particularly. I like both Mammootty and Mohanlal. I like both their acting styles and if you ask me who is better, I would say both of them are equal. Whenever I call their names, I call it two times, Mohanlal- Mammootty or Mammootty- Mohanlal, so no one will have any complaints.

Mohanlal and Mammootty have been the two pillars of Malayalam film industry for nearly three decades now. They made heads turn from the dazzling, colourful world of Bachchans and Khannas to M Town, with their legendary performances. The big M’s share 6 national Awards between them.
So, there is no real point in comparing who is better than who. Both of them have mastered the art in their own way.

Let’s hope they continue to give us more stunning performances and make the coming generation to fall in love with the art of cinema, just like the way we did.

I didn’t face any sort of discrimination from Mammootty: Anjali Ameer

Megastar Mammootty’s next bilingual movie Peranbu is gearing up for release. The movie directed by Ram is highly anticipated for many reasons. Mammootty is returning back to Kollywood after a long gap and sources close to the camp have informed that the actor has given a performance that could sweep several awards. But other than that, the movie hogged the limelight when it was announced that transgender artist Anjali Ameer is playing the female lead opposite Mammootty.

Anjali Ameer, hailing from Kozhikode is the first transgender artist from Mollywood to play lead role in a feature film. It is very heartening to see the film industry opening gates to transgender people, who like others have their rights to live according to their wish. But unlike others, they are victims of severe discrimination irrespective of the field. With strict enforcement of law, the situation has bettered of late.

Anjali Ameer recently opened about her working experience with Mammootty. She said, “Like others, I was also quite apprehensive to talk with Mammootty. But he was very comfortable to work with. He helped me to improve my performance by giving valuable tips while shooting for many scenes. I didn’t have to face any sort of discrimination from him. Even when introducing me to the audience through Facebook, he didn’t mention me as a transgender. I am very grateful to act with Mammootty in my very first movie itself.

Mammootty is playing the character Amuthan in Peranbu. The movie also stars Sarath Kumar, Kaniha and Suraj Venjaramoodu in pivotal characters. Thanga Meengal fame Baby Sadhana is playing the role of Mammootty’s daughter in the movie.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is the composer and Sreekar Prasad is handling the cuts. The movie is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.

Then Big B, now The Great Father

It was back in 2007 when Mammootty teamed up with rookie filmmaker Amal Neerad, a noted cinematographer back then. Big B came in with minimum expectations and was released alongside Mohanlal’s much hyped Chotta Mumbai. Consequently, the Mammootty starrer went largely unnoticed. But once the DVDs was released, the movie saw an unprecedented reception from the viewers.

Big B was branded as a movie that was technically far ahead of it’s time. Amal Neerad’s slick direction, Sameer Thahir’s stunning visuals, Unni R’s dynamic one-liners and Gopi Sunder’s pulsating background score merged hand in hand to enhance the movie to another level. But above all it was Mammootty’s restrained and subtle performance as the stylish gangster Bilal, that was the USP of the movie. Over the years, Big B attained a cult status among the fans of stylish gangster movies.

Exactly 10 years later Mammootty is once again teaming with a newcomer. His upcoming release, The Great Father, written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni is scheduled to hit the screens on March 30. To say the least, The Great Father is the most anticipated Mammootty movie in the past 5-6 years.

Similar to Big B, The Great Father has no big names in it’s technical crew. One big name is the production house, August Cinemas. The Great Father’s dashing posters have striking resemblance to Big B, with Mammootty once again sporting the stylish bearded look. Like Big B, The Great Father is also said to be a revenge drama. If the movie has a strong content to meet the expectation levels of the audience, then Great Father is absolutely certain to rewrite several pre-existing box office records in Mollywood.

Srinath Rajendran, a promising director who made his debut in 2012 through the superhit movie Second Show was missing from the industry for sometime now. The director is all set for a comeback through an upcoming movie with Sunny Wayne in the lead.

The actor announced their coming together through a post in his official Facebook page. The post reads,

Feeling charged up and excited to share with you that I have teamed up with Srinath Rajendran for the third time for our new project in #Bangalore after #koothara!!!!Thank you so much Brother for making me a part of this movie journey

His next movie Koothara had Sunny Wayne, Kollywood actor Bharath and Tovino Thomas in the lead roles. Superstar Mohanlal played an extended cameo in the movie. Producers and distributors decide not to cooperate with Liberty Basheer

The Exhibitors Federation headed by Liberty Basheer is on the verge of termination as the existing members are gradually joining the new union formed by actor Dileep.

The new union named as Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) is headed by actor Dileep and Antony Perumbavoor. The union has the backing of producers and the distributors association.

The General Body meeting called by the Exhibitors Federation during the cinema strike had 102 members while the meeting held recently witnessed only around 50 members. Currently, only those members under the new union will be provided with new releases. So the remaining members are also expected to join the FEUOK.

In the recent General Body meeting, some members alleged that Liberty Basheer’s leadership was the reason for the current situation and that he should immediately resign from the post.

Following that Liberty Basheer and others resigned their post and handed over the administration to the Advisory Committee. However, Liberty Basheer has claimed that he resigned the post because his tenure will be ending on January 31st and hence will preside the advisory committee.

Actor Dileep is the president of Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) while producer MC Bobby was named as the general secretary. Antony Perumbavoor, KE Ijaz, G George were named as the vice presidents of the new union.

Dileep had earlier mentioned that Liberty Basheer is welcome to join the new union but the producers and distributors have decided not to cooperate with Liberty Basheer. The producers and distributors have made their intent clear by not providing new releases to around 25 theatres including Liberty Basheer’s for initiating the cinema strike and thereby triggering huge losses for the industry. Thalassery, Mavelikkara, Edappally, Tripunithura, Kazhakoottam, Manjeri, Chalakudy, Kanjani are the centres excluded by the distributors.
