Vikram overtakes Baahubali 2 to become the all time highest grosser in Tamil Nadu

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ continues to rock the box office. The film has successfully broken the five-year-old record set by ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ to become the biggest grossing film in Tamil Nadu. In Kerala also, it has emerged as the highest grossing non-Malayalam film.

‘Vikram’ is an action-packed entertainer directed by Lokesh Kangaraj. While the film has Vijay Ssthupathi and Fahadh Faasil in prominent roles, Suriya makes a guest appearance towards the end. Critics and commoners have unanimously lapped up the film. It is not often that so many stars come together for a film, and it is probably the first time in Indian cinema where a multiverse concept is opened up in a mass film. All these factors have piqued the audience’s curiosity and it has reflected on the massive rush in theatres.

It has already been confirmed that ‘Vikram’ will get a second part. Lokesh will next direct Vijay in an action film. After that, he will work on ‘Kaithi 2’ with Karthi. Suriya’s character Rolex from ‘Vikram’ is also expected to be part of ‘Kaithi 2’.

Varisu third look heightens expectations

As announced earlier, the makers of Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Varisu’ released the third look last evening. The poster features Vijay sitting on a sporty bike. While the first look had him all suited up, he was seen travelling on the back of a lorry along with a bunch of kids in the second look.

‘Varisu’ directed by Vamshi Paidipally is touted to be a family-based mass entertainer. Rashmika Mandanna is paired with Vijay in the film. Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Khusboo, Sangeetha, Shaam and Jayasudha will be seen in other prominent roles.

Varisu third look

Director Vamshi has scripted the film along with Hari and Ahishor Solomon. It is produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Karthik Palani is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by Praveen KL.

As confirmed by the makers, ‘Varisu’ will be hitting screens for Pongal 2023.

The upcoming Malayalam film ’19 (1)(a)’ starring Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen as the leads is gearing up for release. The makers last day shared its first look poster featuring the two leads. Though there were talks about the film getting a direct OTT release, it is now learnt that the makers are eyeing a theatrical release first.

’19 (1)(a)’ is written and directed by debutante Indu VS. As per the makers, the film has a pan-Indian subject that demands strong performers like Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. Though Vijay Sethupathi has previously made a brief appearance in ‘Marconi Mathai’, this is his first full fledged role in a Malayalam film. The actor has also completed dubbing for his portions.

Indrajith Sukumaran, Indrans, Bhagath Manuel and Deepak Parambol are some of the others in the cast. ’96’ fame Govind Vasantha is the music director and Kerala State award winner Manesh Madhavan is handling the cinematography. The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company.

Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine to join hands for Action Hero Biju 2

Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine are planning to team up for a sequel to their 2016-released cop film, ‘Action Hero Biju’. The actor’s home production house Pauly Jr Pictures will be backing the film. It is now yet known if ‘Action Hero Biju 2’ will be a continuation of the same story or a spiritual sequel.

Nivin and Abrid are currently waiting for the release of their new film ‘Mahaveeryar’. Also starring Asif Ali, Lal and Shanvi Srivastava, the film is slated to hit screens on screens on July 21. The fantasy entertainer is also produced by Nivin’s banner.

Nivin has a few other projects lined up. His long-awaited films ‘Thuramukham’ and ‘Padavettu’ are expected to release soon. The actor was last seen shooting for an untitled Tamil film with director Ram. ‘Thaaram’ with Vinay Govind, ‘Shekhara Varma Rajavu’ with ‘Ishq’ director Anuraj Manohar, ‘Dear Students’ with debutant filmmakers

L 353: Mohanlal teams up with Athiran fame Vivek

Mohanlal has announced that he will be teaming up with young filmmaker Vivek for his next. Tentatively titled ‘L 353’, the film will go on floors after Mohanlal wraps up his remaining portions for Jeethu Joseph’s ‘Ram’.

‘L 353’ will mark the maiden production venture of former State Minister Shibu Baby John. His banner John & Mary Creative will be jointly backing the film along with Century Films of Century Kochumon and Max Lab partnered by KC Babu. Kendra Sahitya Akademi award winner PV Shaji Kumar, who co-wrote ‘Take Off’ and ‘Puthan Panam’, is scripting the upcoming Mohanlal-starrer.

The superstar announced the project by tweeting,

I am delighted to inform you that my 35-year-long friendship and goodwill with Mr. Shibu Baby John is moving into a joint venture to bring you more entertainment. I shall play the lead role in the movie produced by his brand-new film production company, John & Mary Creative.#L353

Century Films of Mr. Century Kochumon and Max Lab partnered by Mr. K. C. Babu will be associating with the project. I will be joining the project soon after the making of “Ram” by Jeethu Joseph. Mr. Vivek will be the film’s youthful director.

We had earlier reported about Rajinikanth teaming up with director Nelson Dilipkumar for his next. The film, which was so far tentatively called ‘Thalaivar 169’, has now been titled ‘Jailer’. It has music by Anirudh and is produced by Sun Pictures.

‘Jailer’ promises to be an action-packed mass entertainer in which Rajinikanth reportedly plays the role of a jailer. Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar has been signed to play a prominent role in the film. The veteran himself has recently confirmed it. He will begin shooting for his sequences in the film from September. This is his first outing with Rajinikanth, so expectations are certain to be high.

There are rumours about Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aishwarya Rai and Ramya Krishnan also acting in ‘Jailer’ but none of it is yet to be confirmed. Nelson’s last film ‘Beast’ with Vijay with a failure. So naturally, the pressure is mounting on the filmmaker and he will be hoping to stage a strong comeback.

Shamshera teaser promises a big-scale period drama

The makers of Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Shamshera’ have released the teaser online. Bollywood’s leading production house, Yash Raj Films is backing the project. It is directed by Karan Malhotra, who made the superhit Hrithik Roshan film ‘Agneepath’.

‘Shamshera’ is an action-adventure in which Ranbir plays the role of a dacoit. Sanjay Dutt is also there in a major role in the film. Vaani Kapoor is the female lead. The makers are releasing the film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. It is scheduled to hit screens on July 22. Prior to that, the film’s trailer will be out on June 24.

Besides ‘Shamshera’, Ranbir also has ‘Brahmastra’ gearing up for release. Also a fantasy-adventure film, it has Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in other prominent roles. Ayan Mukherjee is helming the project, which is planned as a trilogy. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is backing the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on September 9.

Ranveen Tandon to star in Mammootty’s next?

It is speculated that Mammootty will be teaming up with director B Unnikrishnan next for a big-budget thriller. The star is said to be playing a police officer in the film, which is scripted by Udhayakrishna.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is in talks for the film. She was last seen in ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, in which her performance as Prime Minister Ramika Sen was widely praised. If the talks turn out to be true, Raveena will be making her Malayalam debut with the B Unnikrishnan-Mammootty film. Biju Menon, Indrajith, Roshan Mathew and Siddique are also said to be part of the film, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Mammootty recently wrapped up the shoot of ‘Rorschach’ directed by ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ fame Nisam Basheer. The megastar has also committed for a new film with debutant Dinu Dennis, son of veteran screenwriter Kaloor Dennis.

Brahmastra trailer is all about the VFX and grandeur

The trailer of the much-awaited Bollywood biggie ‘Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva’ has been released. Touted to be a fantasy adventure drama, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt as the leads. The trailer is VFX-heavy with much emphasis on getting the visual grandeur right.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, ‘Brahmastra’ is a mythology-based fantasy trilogy with Ranbir and Alia playing the central characters named Shiva and Isha. Amitabh Bachchan essays a role named Professor Arvind Chaturvedi. While Nagarjuna will be seen as archaeologist named Ajay Vashisht, Mouni Roy’s character is named Damayanti, the antagonist. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is also said to be part of the film.

Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is backing this ambitious project, which will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
