Karthi heaps praise on Kamal Haasan, Suriya and team Vikram

Kamal Haasan’s recent release ‘Vikram’ is continuing his exceptional run at the box office. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has reportedly grossed over Rs 150 crores already and is expected to register bigger numbers in the coming days. Besides the appreciation from critics and commoners, the film is also getting words of praise from those within the industry.

Actor Karthi, who is an integral part of the Vikram universe, has heaped praise on the film and the team members. His post reads,

Vikram – as mentioned by all, a true celebration of our Kamal Haasan sir! It’s such a high to watch him kick up a storm. Action and visuals were racy with interesting connections and surprises throughout. Fahadh Faasil never lets his intensity drop..Vijay Sethupathi brings out a new shade of baddie. Shane Nigam’s Ullasam trailer promises to be a romantic entertainer

After the teaser release, the makers of Shane Nigam’s ‘Ullasam’ have shared the trailer online. From the 2-minute long trailer, the film looks like a a romantic entertainer. It gives glimpses of colourful songs, fun moments, action and romance. Pavithra Lekshmi, a newcomer, is paired with Shane Nigam in the film.

‘Ullasam’ is directed by debutant Jeevan Jojo, who was a former associate of Ranjith Sankar, Deepu Karunakaran and Jeethu Joseph. Praveen Balakrishnan has scripted the film. The supporting cast includes Aju Varghese, Deepak Parambol, Basil Joseph, Hareesh Peradi, Ambika, Appukutty, Indrans, Nayana and Parvathy.

On the technical front, Swaroop Philip has wielded the camera and songs are composed by Shaan Rahman. While Gopi Sundar takes care of the background score, Johnkutty handles the edits.

Jo Kaithamattam and Christy Kaithamattam are producing ‘Ullasam’ under the banner of Kaithamattam Brothers.

Paappan post-production works done; Release date to be out soon

We had recently reported about Suresh Gopi wrapping up the dubbing for his upcoming film ‘Paappan’. With that, the makers have completed all the post-production works. The film will soon be sent to the censors after which the release date will be announced.

‘Paappan’ directed by Joshiy has high expectations since he is reuniting with Suresh Gopi are teaming up after a long gap. Touted to be an investigative thriller, the film has Suresh Gopi as a police officer named Abraham Mathew Mathan. Though he has done a lot of police characters before, this is said to be a role with multiple shades. He will be appearing in two different looks in the film, which includes a salt-and-pepper bearded getup.

Gokul Suresh, Kaniha, Sunny Wayne, Nyla Usha and Neeta Pillai are also playing prominent roles in the film. Scripted by RJ Shaan, it is a crime-investigation thriller with mystery and suspense elements in it.

The teaser of Rakshit Shetty’s new film ‘Saptha Sagaradaache Ello’ has been released. Touted to be an intense love story, the film has Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead. It is directed by Hemanth M Rao of ‘Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu’ and ‘Kavaludaari’ fame.

‘Saptha Sagaradaache Ello’ also stars Avinash, Sharath Lohitaswa, Pavithra Lokesh, Achyuth Kumar, Ramesh Indira and Gopal Krishna Deshpande. The film has music scored by Charan Raj and cinematography by Advaitha Gurumurthy. Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios is backing the film.

Rakshit meanwhile has his much-hyped film ‘777 Charlie’ gearing up for release this Friday (June 10). The film directed by Kiranraj tells a heartwarming story of a human-dog bonding. Besides Kannada, it is also set to release in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu languages.

Here’s the gripping trailer of Nayanthara’s O2

Nayanthara will be next seen in a survival thriller titled ‘O2’. The film directed by GS Viknesh is gearing up to have a direct release on Hotstar on June 17. Meanwhile, the makers have shared its trailer online.

The film has Nayanthara playing a single mother of a kid, who has breathing issues. His medical condition that doesn’t allow him to breathe without a breathing aid. He constantly needs oxygen support to stay alive. On their way to Kochi for better treatment, the bus they are travelling in falls into a massive hole. Short of oxygen, the co-passengers try to snatch the child’s oxygen. Pushed against the wall, the mother decides to fight for her kid.

‘O2’ has Bharath Neelakantan, Lena, Jaffer Idukki, Adukalam Murugadoss and many others as part of the cast. The film has cinematography by Thamizh A Azhagan and editing by Selva RK. Vishal Chandrasekar is handling the music department.

The film is produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the banner of Dream Warrior Pictures.

Release date confirmed for Priyan Ottathilaanu

We had earlier reported about Sharafudheen and Nyla Usha teaming up for a new film titled ‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’. Antony Sony Sebastian, who made his directorial debut with ‘C/O Saira Banu’, is helming the film. The makers have announced that the film will be hitting screens on June 24.

‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’ has Sharafudheen playing the titular role. Aparna Das, who was recently seen in ‘Beast’, is playing his wife’s role in the film. The makers had recently released its trailer, which got good response online. The film also stars Anarkali Marikar, Biju Sopanam, Harisree Ashokan, Jaffer Idukki and Sudhy Koppa as part of the supporting cast.

From the film’s trailer, it looks like a fun entertainer. It is scripted by Abhayakumar K and Anil Kurian, who has earlier scripted hit films like ‘Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam’ and ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’.

‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’ has many newcomers in the technical team. Cinematographer PM Unnikrishnan, editor Joel Kavi and music director Lijin Bambino are all making their feature film debut.

Anirudh Ravichander to make his Hindi debut with Shah Rukh Khan-Atlee film Jawan

Anirudh Ravichander, who is making waves with his music in the South, is set to enter Bollywood. The youngster is composing music for the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-Atlee film ‘Jawan’. Though Anirudh has previously composed a song in Bejoy Nambiar’s ‘David’ and handled the background score in Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’, ‘Jawan’ marks his full-fledged Hindi debut.

Anirudh’s score for ‘Jawan’ teaser is already getting widely praised. Sharing the excitement, the composer tweeted,

‘Jawan’, which promises to be an action-packed thrillet, also stars Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Priya Mani, Yogi Babu and Sunil Grover. Atlee’s regular collaborator GK Vishnu is cranking the camera for this film as well. SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment is backing the film, which is slated for release on June 2, 2023.

Vikram storms into the 100 crore club

Within just two days of its release, the Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram has entered the elite 100 crore club. The film, which hit screens on Friday, has grossed over Rs 100 crores from its worldwide run. Trade circles report that the film is doing extraordinary business, not just in Tamil Nadu but in other South states and overseas markets.

‘Vikram’ is reported to have grossed a whopping Rs 62 crore from its first day alone. The estimate is around Rs 37 crore from India and over 25 crore from overseas. It is Kamal’s third film to cross the three figure mark after ‘Dasavatharam’ and ‘Vishwaroopam’. It is also hattrick of 100 crore grossers for director Lokesh Kanagaraj after ‘Kaithi’ and ‘Master’.

‘Vikram’ is also getting praised by many critics for staying true to its genre and making good use of the star-studded cast. Besides Kamal, the film has the presence of actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil and Suriya.

Shaji Kailas is planning to helm a new film titled ‘Pink Police’. Indugopan is scripting the film, which is said to be a female-centric entertainer. If reports are to be believed, the makers are in talks with Nayanthara, Vidya Balan and Samantha to play the lead role. An official confirmation is still awaited.

‘Pink Police’ will be produced by Darwin Kuriakose and Jinu V Abraham under the banner of Theatre of Dreams. The production house is also backing Shaji Kailas’ another upcoming film, ‘Kaapa’. Indugopan is scripting that film as well. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Manju Warrier and Anna Ben as the leads.

Shaji Kailas also has two of his films — ‘Kaduva’ and ‘Alone’ lined up for release. While the former, a mass entertainer starring Prithviraj, is slated for June 30 release, ‘Alone’ with Mohanlal is planned as a direct OTT release.

Vikram beats Master gross in Kerala

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’, has opened to phenomenal response across all centres. In Kerala, the film is doing tremendously well at the box office. As per trade reports, ‘Vikram’ has already surpassed the Kerala collections of Vijay’s ‘Master’ to become the highest grossing Tamil film in the post-pandemic era. If the trend continues, ‘Vikram’ is most likely to emerge as the all-time highest grosser among all the Tamil films released so far in Kerala.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Vikram’ is an action-packed tribute from the young filmmaker to his idol, Kamal Haasan. Besides Kamal, the film has Vijay Ssthupathi and Fahadh Faasil in prominent roles. Suriya also makes a cameo appearance towards the end of the film.

Critics and commoners have unanimously lapped up the film. It is not often that so many stars come together for a film, and it is probably the first time in Indian cinema where a multiverse concept is opened up in a mass film. All these factors have raised the curiosity among the audience and that has reflected on the footfalls in theatres.
