Suriya’s next with Bala begins

Suriya’s new film with National-award winning filmmaker Bala got launched recently. The actor himself is producing the film along with his wife Jyothika under their banner of 2D Entertainment. GV Prakash has been signed as the music director and cinematography is by Balasubramamiem.

The makers also announced Krithi Shetty as the female lead. The young actress is noted for her roles in films like ‘Uppena’, ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, and ‘Bangarraju’. Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju of ‘Super Sharanya’ fame has also been roped in for an important role.

This yet-to-be titled film is Suriya’s third outing with Bala after ‘Nandha’ and ‘Pithamagan’. He had also made a cameo appearance in the director’s 2011 film ‘Avan Ivan’. Suriya, who considers Bala as his true mentor, is very excited about their reunion. Earlier while announcing the project, the actor had mentioned that it was Bala’s faith in him that gave him a new identity and introduced him to a new world. It is Suriya’s perfomance in Bala’s 2001-film ‘Nandha’ that established him as a serious performer.

Karan Johar bags Hridayam remake rights

Bollywood filmmaker-producer Karan Johar has bagged the remake rights of the blockbuster Malayalam film, ‘Hridayam’. Karan’s Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios together have acquired the rights for Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages.

Sharing the news with his fans and followers, he wrote, “I am so delighted and honoured to share this news with you. Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios have acquired the rights to a beautiful, coming-of-age love story, #Hridayam in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu – all the way from the south, the world of Malayalam cinema. ‘Hridayam’ directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan is a coming-of-age story starring Pranav Mohanlal as the protagonist. Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran played the female leads in the film that turned out to be a big hit at the box office.

Beast teaser update expected today

The makers of Vijay starrer ‘Beast’ have announced that a new update from the film will be out today. Talks in social medias suggest that the update will be about the teaser. For the last couple of weeks, fans have been eagerly waiting for the teaser.

‘Beast’, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is touted to be a action entertainer made on a lavish scale. Vijay is reportedly playing a con-agent’s role in the film. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead. The ‘Radhe Shyam’ actress is making her comeback to Tamil after nearly a decade with this film.

‘Beast’ has director Selvaraghavan essaying an important role role. Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko, Aparna Das, Ankur Ajit Vikal, VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley and Liliput Faruqui will be seen in other supporting roles.

The makers have already announced that the film will be hitting screens on April 13.

We had earlier reported about ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ director Nissam Basheer teaming up with Mammootty for his next. The project got launched today with a customary switch on ceremony in Athirappally. Mammootty himself is producing the film under his banner, Mammootty Kampany. This is the production house’s second film after the upcoming Mammootty-Lijo Jose Pellissery film, ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’.

Nissam Basheer’s film is scripted by Sameer Abdul, who has earlier penned the Asif Ali films, ‘Ibilis’ and ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’. This yet-to-be-titled film also stars Sharafudheen, Jagadheesh, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker, Sanju Sivaram, and Kottayam Nazeer.

Nimish Ravi, who got widespread praise for his work in ‘Kurup’, is cranking the camera. Kiran Das of ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ fame is the editor. Mithun Mukundan, the composer of the recently acclaimed Kannada film ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana’, is making his Malayalam debut with this film.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s much-awaited ‘Puzhu’ is gearing up for a direct OTT release. The film also starring Parvathy Thiruvoth is set to premiere on SonyLiv in April.

The first look and a short teaser of Telugu star Nani’s new film ‘Dasara’ has been released. It has the actor in a rugged, never-before-seen look. In the video, Nani is seen walking through a coal mine and and light a beedi from a fire pit. From the first look, it is evident that Nani and the film’s makera are trying to following the footsteps of Yash in ‘KGF’ and Allu Arjun in ‘Pushpa’.

Nani, who is usually known for his boy-next-door, roles is trying something completely in contrast. The actor’s last release ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, also had him experimenting with his looks and performance.

‘Dasara’ is directed by Srikanth Odela. The film stars Keerthy Suresh as the female. It marks Nani and Keerthy’s second collaboration after the success of ‘Nenu Local’. The cast of ‘Dasara’ also includes Sai Kumar, Samuthirkani and Zarina Wahab.

Nani also has ‘Ante Sundaraniki’, directed by Vivek Athreya coming up. The film, billed as a rom-com, marks the Telugu debut of l Malayalam actress Nazriya Nazim.

Nayanthara Chakravarthy to debut as a lead actress with Gentleman 2

Producer KT Kunjumon had earlier announced a sequel for his 1993-blockbuster film ‘Gentleman’. The second part titled ‘Gentleman 2’ is being planned on a big scale. Last day, the producer announced that Nayanthara Chakravarthy will be playing one of the female leads in the film.

Nayanthara is popular for her roles as a child actor in Malayalam films like ‘Kilukkam Kilukilukkam’, ‘Loudspeaker’, ‘Trivandrum Lodge’ etc. She made her Telugu debut in 2008 with ‘Kathanayakudu’, the remake of ‘Katha Parayumbol’.

‘Gentleman 2’ is said to be the continuation of the Shankar-Arjun film. However, details regarding its cast and crew members are not yet known. It is speculated that Arjun and Madhubala, the lead actors from the original, will be returning for the sequel. Some other popular actors are also said to be in talks for the film.

MM Keeravani, the music director of ‘Baahubali’ films and ‘RRR’, has already been signed as the composer. Stay tuned for more updates.

Vijay Sethupathi’s Maamanithan release date announced

Vijay Sethupathi’s long delayed film ‘Maamanithan’ is finally gearing up for release. It has been announced that the Seenu Ramasamy directorial will hit screens on May 6. 9 will be releasing the film in Tamil and Kerala.

The makers had recently released a trailer, going by which the film appears to be an emotional family drama. Gayathrie plays Vijay Sethupathi’s wife in the film. The two have earlier acted together in ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’, ‘Super Deluxe’ and ‘Puriyatha Puthir’. Guru Somasundaram and Malayalam actors Jewel Mary and the late KPAC Lalitha are also essaying important roles.

‘Maamanithan’ is produced by music director Yuvan Shankar Raja. Interestingly, the film has music scored by Yuvan, and his father, Ilayaraaja, which is a first. M Sukumar is the cinematographer and Sreekar Prasad handles the edits.

Discussions on for Prithviraj-Tovino starrer Karachi 81

It was two years back on Republic Day that it was announced that Prithviraj and Tovino will be teaming up for a film titled ‘Karachi 81’. KS Bava, who earlier made the Asif Ali starrer ‘Idiots’, was supposed to direct the film with Anto Joseph as the producer.

However, the project had to be put on hold after the pandemic disrupted their plans. It seems like the makers are now trying to revive it. Last day, KS Bava took to his Facebook handle to share a photo taken with Prithviraj, Tovino and Anto Joseph. An update regarding when they are planning to begin shoot is expected soon.

‘Karachi 81’ is touted to be a spy-thriller, a genre that has rarely been attempted in Malayalam. KS Bava and Anwar Huzain have jointly scripted the film. We had earlier learnt that that the film’s is story set in the 80s when RAW’s elite southern commando force forms a team of best to counter the series of operations planned by ISI backed covert forces in India. The team is lead by a man who was regarded as India’s finest counter insurgency commando. The film basically tells the inspiring tale of a few brave men and women who ensured the country’s security at a time when there was no digital surveillance. Prithviraj is likely to play the lead role with Tovino essaying another important part.

‘Karachi 81’ was originally announced with Sujith Vassudev as the cinematographer, Mahesh Narayanan as the editor and Jakes Bejoy as the composer. It remains to be seen if the makers retain the same trio.

RRR team launch the first look of superhero film, Adhira

Director Prasanth Varma on Wednesday announced a superhero film titled ‘Adhira’. Kalyan Dasari, the son of ‘RRR’ producer DVV Danayya, is making his acting debut with this film. The first look of ‘Adhira’ was launched by the ‘RRR’ trio of SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr NTR.

The teaser of ‘Adhira’ introduces a man who seems to have the power to generate lightning with his bare hands. Wearing a superhero suit, he is seen fighting bad people and saving a dying man. With ‘Adhira’, Prashanth Varma is trying to make a superhero universe like that of DC and Marvel. The film has its screenplay developed by Hyderabad-based Scripts Ville. Niranjan Reddy of Primeshow Entertainment is producing the film on lavish scale. It has Dasaradhi Shivendra as the DoP and Gowri Hari as the music director. The makers are planning to release the film in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Director Prashanth Varma is known for experimenting with genres since his acclaimed debut film ‘Awe’. His second film was ‘Kalki’, a detective thriller, inspired by India’s popular fictional detective character Byomkesh Bakshi. He is currently working on Hanu-Man, a multilingual fantasy entertainer starring Sajja Teja in the lead role. Sajja made his debut as a lead actor with ‘Zombie Reddy’, also directed by Prashanth Varma.

Sathyan Anthikad’s new film ‘Makal’ starring Jayaram and Meera Jasmine is getting ready for release. Last day, the makers shared a teaser of the first song from the film. Titled ‘Mayalle’, the song is composed by Vishnu Vijay. He has also crooned the track along with Haricharan. BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics.

‘Makal’ directed by Sathyan Anthikad has Jayaram and Meera Jasmine playing a married couple. Devi Sanjay of ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame will be seen as their daughter. Innocent, Naslen, Siddique and Sreenivasan are essaying other supporting roles. From the promos released so far, it looks like a typical Sathyan Anthikad film about families and relationships. Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram has scripted the film.

‘Makal’ has the director’s regular collaborator S Kumar as the cinematographer. Music department is handled by ‘Ambili’ fame Vishnu Vijay. Art director Prashant Madhav, costume designer Sameera Saneesh and sound designer Anil Radhakrishnan are also part of the technical team.
The film is produced by Central Pictures.
