Lata Mangeshkar passes away

After battling age-related ailments for the last few weeks, Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last on Sunday. The 92-year-old passed away due to multiple organ failure after contracting COVID-19 and undergoing 28 days of treatment at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Lata was unarguably one of the most prolific singers in India. Though she primarily concentrated in Marathi and Hindi, she had recorded songs in over 36 Indian languages and few foreign languages. Popularly called as the Nightingale of India, Lata is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards.

In 1987, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed on her by the Government of India. In 2001, in recognition of her contributions to the nation, she was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. France conferred on her its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007. She was also the recipient of 3 National Film Awards.

Release date of Aishwarya Lekshmi’s Archana 31 Not Out announced

The release date of Aishwarya Lekshmi’s upcoming film ‘Archana 31 Not Out’ has been announced. Though there were talks about the film opting for a direct OTT release, the makers have decided to release it in theatres on February 11. The film is produced jointly by filmmaker Martin Prakkat, Siby Chavara and Renjith Nair.

‘Archana 31 Not Out’ is directed by debutant Akhil Anilkumar. The film, which is Aishwarya Lekshmi’s first film as a solo lead, promises to be a fun entertainer. It is mainly about the titular character’s attempts to get married. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays a primary school teacher’s role. The film set in a rustic backdrop was mostly shot in Palakkad.

Director Akhil Anilkumar has penned the screenplay along with Ajay Vijayan and Vivek Chandran. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Joyal Joji and edits handled by Mushin PM.

With the release date announced officially, the makers are expected to share the trailer and other promo materials online.

If reports are to be believed, Mammootty is set to reunite with ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’ director Shaji Padoor. It is said that their new film will have Mammootty in the role of a traffic police inspector. Though the veteran has done several cop roles in his career, this will be the first time he will be seen in a traffic police inspector’s role.

Abhilash Pillai, who is scripting the upcoming films ‘Patham Valavu’ and ‘Night Drive’, is attached the scenarist for Mammootty-Shaji Padoor combo’s next. Mammootty’s long associate George is most likely to produce the film. An official announcement is expected soon.

Mammootty meanwhile is expected to rejoin the sets of ‘CBI 5 ‘ soon. He was forced to take a break after testing positive for Covid-19. He also has ‘Puzhu’ and ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ lined up for release.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that ‘Puzhu’ will be getting a direct OTT release on Sony Liv.

With ‘Hridayam’ continuing its successfully run in theatres, the makers have released a new song video online. Titled ‘Pottu Thotta Pournami’, it is a romantic song featuring Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan. The song is about the fun moments between the couple, Arun and Nithya, post their marriage. It is a lovely romantic number rendered by Sachin Balu and Megha Josekutty. Kaithapram has penned the lyrics and Hesham Abdul Wahab has composed it.

‘Hridayam’ directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan has Pranav, Darshana Rajendran and Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leads. The film is about the life journey of a few individuals from their college days.

‘Hridayam’ has already become a huge hit at the box office. Despite the pandemic threat and subsequent restrictions, the film is doing excellent business in all the centres, including the overseas regions.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Disney + Hotstar has acquired the streaming rights of the film. Asianet has bagged the satellite rights. An official update regarding the OTT release is awaited.

Aaraattu trailer excites fans; Storms past 2.5 million views

Last day, the trailer of Mohanlal’s ‘Aaraattu’ got released online. As expected it was an action-packed one with plenty of mass dialogues and slo-mo fight scenes. Mohanlal’s character Neyyattinkara Gopan gets terrific build up from the supporting actors and with the multiple ‘Lucifer’ references, the film promises to be a treat for the fans. Rahul Raj’s invigorating background score enhances the trailer’s overall mass mood.

‘Aaraattu’ is directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Udhayakrishna. As confirmed by the makers themselves, the film will have equal dose of action, comedy, songs and all other essential commercial ingredients.

‘Aara Popular South Indian actress Shraddha Srinath plays the female lead. The supporting cast includes actors like Siddique, Sai Kumar, Nedumudi Venu, Indrans, Lukman, ‘KGF’ fame Garuda Ram, Ashwin Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Swasika, Rachana Narayanankutty and Sheela.

Music maestro AR Rahman will be seen making a cameo appearance in a song sequence in the film. The makers are expected to announce the release date soon.

Member Rameshan 9th Ward teaser promises a fun political satire

The makers of ‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ have released the film’s teaser online. From the teaser itself it is evident that the fun aspires to be a fun political satire. Written and directed by debutants Anto Jose Pereira and Aby Treesa Paul, the film has Arjun Ashokan playing the lead character named OM Rameshan.

Gayathri Ashok is paired opposite Arjun. The song ‘Alare Neeyennile’ featuring the lead pair has already become a big hit. Kalias Menon composed the song with Ayraan and Nithya Mammen lending their vocals.

‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ also stars Chemban Vinod Jose, Indrans, Shabareesh Varma, Johny Antony, Sabumon, Renji Panicker, Mamukkoya and Saju Kodiyan. On the technical front, Eldo Issac is the DOP and Deepu Joseph edits the film. Kailas Menon handles the music department.

The film is produced by Boban-Moly duo under the banner of Boban and Moly Entertainment. The makers have announced that the film will be releasing in theatres on February 18.

The makers of Prabhas-Pooja Hegde starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’ have announced that the film will be hitting screens worldwide on March 11. The film was supposed to be released much earlier but kept delaying due to to the pandemic.

‘Radhe Shyam’ directed by Radha Krishna Kumar is said to be a period love story set in an European backdrop. Prabhas plays Vikramaditya, who is introduced as ‘the Einstein of palmistry’. He has the ability to foresee a person’s life story from birth. In the film’s trailer, he is shown as someone who had rightly predicted the Indian Emergency. A character who looks like the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is seen showing her palm to him.

The film also stars Sathyaraj, Sachin Khedekar, Jagapathi Babu, Bhagyashree, Sasga Chettri, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Murali Sharma, Riddhi Kapoor, Sasha Chettri, Sathyan and Kunaal Roy Kapoor.

‘Radhe Shyam’ jointly bankrolled by UV Creations and T-Series will be releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages.

On his birthday, Simbu has shared a video that details his physical transformation. Last year, the actor had stunned one and all by appearing in a lean, fit look after staying away from the limelight for a few months. During this period, he shed around 30 kgs of his body weight.

In the 13-minute-long video, Simbu is seen training hard in various sports and other physical activities. He plays cricket, badminton, football, tennis, and basketball. Along with that, he does a lot of cardio exercises, weight lifting, swimming, and horse riding. He then had a long stay in Kerala where he trained himself in Kalaripayattu, silambam and went through Ayurvedic treatment. Actress Saranya Mohan, well known for her role in ‘Velayudham’, is also seen training Simbu in classical dance.

The video is quite a detail documenting of Simbu’s hardwork and efforts to lose his weight and get back to being fat. The actor currently has a handful of projects in his kitty and is also in talks for a few others. His last release ‘Maanaadu’ was a huge hit at the box office.

Tovino’s Naradhan gets a new release date

Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Naradhan’, which was scheduled to hit screens on January 27, has now been postponed to March 3. The film’s earlier planned release had to be dropped due to the pandemic third wave.

‘Naradan’ directed by Aashiq Abu and scripted by Unni R is a journalism-based thriller. Anna Ben is the female lead and she reportedly plays the role of an advocate. From the trailer, we get to see that the film has Tovino playing a TV journalist. It seems like the film attempts to be a critique on the journalism scene in India currently.

‘Naradhan’ also stars Renji Panicker, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Navas Vallikunnu, Rajesh Madhavan, Sharafudheen, Lukman and many others. The film has cinematography by Jaffer Zadique and editing by Saiju Sreedharan. Music department is being handled by ‘Da Thadiya’ actor Sekhar Menon.

‘Naradhan’ is produced jointly by Aashiq Abu, Rima Kallingal and Santhosh T Kuruvilla.
