Glimpses of Simbu’s Pathu Thala is here!

Recently, on Simbu’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Pathu Thala’ released a short video online. It gives a glimpse into the world of ‘Pathu Thala’, in which Simbu plays a gangster. Gautham Karthik plays the other lead in the film, which is the Tamil remake of blockbuster Kannada film ‘Mufti’.

‘Mufti’ is a neo-noir action-thriller starring Shiva Rajkumar and Sriimurali as the leads. Narthan, the director of the orginal, was supposed to helm the Tamil version as well. However, it got shelved at the initial stages itself after a tussle between the director and the film’s producer KR Gnanavel Raja. Simbu was also irregular in attending shoots.

Later the project got revived with Obeli N Krishna of ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’ and ‘Nedunchalai’ fame as the director. Gautham Vasudev Menon plays a prominent role in the film. The cast also includes Priya Bhavani Shankar, Manushyaputhran, Kalaiyarasan and ‘Asuran’ fame Teejay.

Highly positive response for Mahaan trailer in social medias

After the excellent response for the teaser, the makers of Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Mahaan’ have shared its trailer online. The 2.11-minute long trailer is getting a positive talk in social medias.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, ‘Mahaan’ is touted to be an emotional gangster drama between a father and son. Vikram and his son Dhruv are playing the lead roles in the film. The fact that this is the first time the duo are acting together has heightened the expectations for ‘Mahaan’.

Vikram plays a gangster named Gandhi Mahaan while his son Dhruv essays a role named Dada. Simran, Vani Bhojan, Bobby Simha, Muthukumar and Sananth are also part of the supporting cast. The film has music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and edits by Vivek Harshan.

‘Mahaan’ produced by Seven Screen Studio is set to have its direct OTT release. The film will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on February 10. It will be streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Kotthu teaser out on Asif Ali’s birthday

Today, on the occasion of Asif Ali’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Kotthu’ have released its teaser online. Asif along with Ranjith feature in the teaser.

Sibi Malayil is making his comeback to direction with this film. The veteran has earlier worked with Asif in with whom Asif has worked in ‘Apoorvaragam’, ‘Unnam’ and ‘Violin’.

‘Kotthu’ is written by Hemanth Kumar. It stars Nikhila Vimal as the female lead. Roshan Mathew, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna and Vijilesh Karayad will be seen in supporting roles. Prasanth Raveendran is the DOP and songs are composed by Kailas Menon. Jakes Bejoy handles the background score and Rathin Radhakrishnan is editing the film.

Filmmaker Ranjith and PM Sasidharan are jointly produce ‘Kotthu’ under the banner Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

Asif meanwhile has a number of projects lined up. Last day, it was announced that he will be teaming up with Jeethu Joseph for a film titled ‘Kooman’. The actor has also completed the shoot of Abrid Shine’s ‘Mahaveeryar’ co-starring Nivin Pauly, an untitled Jis Joy film. His next release will be the much-awaited Rajeev Ravi directorial ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’.

It has been exactly a decade since the release of ‘Second Show’ and with that Dulquer Salmaan has turned 10-years old in cinema. On this special occasion, the actor took to his social media handle to pen a note of gratitude, which reads,

Ten years ago I was born again. Birthed by art, nurtured by wizards, raised by the seas.

Fathered by the sun, the ocean gave me earth, rain and at times suitable shade. I proceeded to grow, alongside others around me. I discovered colours and scents unique to me. Now the winds disperse me near and far. I wish to bloom everywhere.

Boundless gratitude to everyone. But most of all to the oceans. I bend in your breeze.

Dulquer currently has two films gearing up for release. His Malayalam film, ‘Salute’ was supposed to hit screens in January but got postponed due to the pandemic. It is expected to get a revised release date shortly. His Tamil film ‘Hey Sinamika’, co-starring Kajal Aggarwal and Aditi Rao Hydari, is meanwhile scheduled for February release.

Dulquer also has a film each lined up in Telugu and Hindi. He is playing an army officer in an upcoming period love story directed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi of ‘Padi Padi Leche Manasu’ fame. Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur is paired with him in it.

In Bollywood, Dulquer will be next seen in ‘Chup: The Revenge of an Artist’, directed by R Balki. The film, which is touted as a psychological thriller, also stars Pooja Bhatt, ‘Scam 1992’ fame Shreya Dhanwanthary and Sunny Deol. Apart from this, he has signed for his maiden web series to be directed by Raj and DK. Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gaurav also star in it.

Asif Ali and Jeethu Joseph team up for Kooman

Director Jeethu Joseph is next teaming up with Asif Ali for a film titled ‘Kooman’. Its official announcement was made last day by unveiling an intriguing motion poster. KR Krishna Kumar is scripting the film and it is produced by Allwin Antony under the banner of Ananya Films.

On the technical front, Jeethu Joseph has retained his frequent collaborator Satheesh Kurup as the cinematographer. Vishnu Shyam will be handling the music department and VS Vinayak is the editor. The director’s wife Linta Jeethu will be designing the costumes.

Jeethu Joseph, whose last release the blockbuster ‘Drishyam 2′, also has ’12th Man’ coming up. The multi-starrer headed by Mohanlal is currently in the post-production stage. It is already confirmed as a direct OTT release. An official announcement regarding the releasing platform and its streaming date is awaited.

Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Mahaan’ is set to have its direct OTT release. The film will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on February 10. It will be streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Vishal, who has been through a rough patch, is eyeing a strong comeback with his new film, ‘Veerame Vaagai Soodum’. Though originally planned as a January 26,
the makers had to postpone it without any reasons being assigned or any alternative dates being announced. But now, with the Tamil Nadu government announcing that there would be no total lockdown on Sundays, the team has announced that the film will hit screens February 4.

Malik Streams Corporation, which is releasing ‘Veerame Vaagai Soodum’ worldwide, made the official release announcement on its Twitter handle. They have tweeted: “Rise of a common man at cinemas from February 4th 2022. Don’t miss the action thriller Veeramae Vaagai Soodum on big screens near you.”

Directed by Thu Pa Saravanan, ‘Veerame Vaagai Soodum’ promises to be an action-packed thriller. Vishal plays a cop’s role in the film. Dimple Hayati is paired with him. Malayalam actor Baburaj essays the villain role. Others in the cast include Yogi Babu, Marimuthu, Thulasi, Kavitha Bharathi, R.N.R. Manohar, Mariam George, and Maha Gandhi.

Suriya’s Etharkkum Thunindhavan release date announced

This summer, Indian cinema is set to witness a slew of releases. Due to the pandemic third wave, most of the films planned for release in the first two months have rescheduled their plans to March and April. Suriya’s ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ is one such biggie. The makers have just announced the film will be having a grand theatrical release on March 10.

Directed by Pandiraj, ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ promises to be action-packed entertainer in which Suriya will be seen in a villager’s role after a long gap. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the film is inspired from the Pollachi sexual assault case.

Priyanka Arul Mohan, who was last seen in ‘Doctor’, is the heroine. Vinay plays the antagonist’s role. Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Saranya Ponvannan, Jayaprakash, Ilavarasan, Devadarshini, Subbu Panchu Arunachalam and Saran are part of the supporting cast.

With the pandemic third wave subsiding, filmmakers are making swift moves to announce the release dates. Sivakarthikeyan’s Don has been announced as a March 25 theatrical release date. SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated biggie ‘RRR’ has also been scheduled for the same day.
