Kanakam Kamini Kalaham trailer out; Nivin Pauly-starrer offers loads of fun

The trailer of Nivin Pauly’s new film ‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ has been released. Directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, the film looks like a thorough entertainer with lots of fun elements in it. Grace Antony, Vinay Forrt, ‘Vikruthi’ fame Vincy Aloshious, Sudheesh, Joy Mathew, Rajesh Madhavan, Jaffer Idukki, Sivadas Kannur and many others are part of the cast.

According to director Ratheesh Balakrishnan, ‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ is a family drama that also has dark humour and satirical elements in it. Like his debut film ‘Android Kunjappan’, this one also deals with ordinary people and their lives. Most of the film’s portions are set in a hotel building.

On the technical front, Vinod Illampally is the cinematographer and music is composed by the duo of Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira. Manoj Kannoth is the editor.

‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ is set for a direct OTT release. It will be the first Malayalam film to premiere on Disney + Hotstar. Nivin’s own banner Pauly Jr Pictures is producing the film.

As reported earlier, the trailer of Suriya’s new film ‘Jai Bhim’ got released on Friday. From the trailer, we figure out that the film is about the discrimination against a particular community by the system. Lijomol Jose and Manikandan play a couple, who are from a tribal community. The latter gets arrested by the cops and is subject to custodial violence. Suriya plays a lawyer, who fights a legal battle for the community.

Directed by ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ fame TJ Gnanavel, ‘Jai Bhim’ promises to be an intense social drama. The film is based on some true incidents. Suriya’s advocate character is inspired from a real-life person. Interestingly, this is the first time the actor is playing a laywer’s role in his career.

Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj and many others are part of the film’s cast. SR Kathir wields the camera and Philomin Raj handles the edits. Sean Roldan is music director.

‘Jai Bhim’ is all set to have a direct release on Amazon Prime Video. Produced by Suriya and Jyotika’s banner 2D Entertainment, the film will be premiering on November 2 ahead of Deepavali.

It has been announced that the teaser of Prabhas’ upcoming film ‘Radhe Shyam’ will be out on October 23. The film directed bynRadha Krishna Kumar is a period love story set in an European backdrop. Pooja Hegde is paired with Prabhas in the film. The cast also includes Malayaam actor Jayaram, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Sasga Chettri, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Murli Sharma, Riddhi Kapoor, Sasha Chettri, Sathyan and Kunaal Roy Kapoor.

‘Radhe Shyam’ will have a pan-Indian release on January 14, 2022. The film was originally planned to be released earlier this year in July but due to the pandemic situation, the makers were forced to drop their plans. ‘Radhe Shyam’ will now be clashing with Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ and Pawan Kalyan-Rana Daggubati starrer ‘Bheemla Nayak’.

With all three films releasing on the Sankranti weekend, Telugu cinema is set to witness a massive box office clash. It remains to be seen if any of the films get a change in release plans to avert a clash.

Suriya’s Jai Bhim trailer release date announced

The much-awaited trailer of Suriya’s new film ‘Jai Bhim’ will be out on October 22. The announcement was made along with a new poster. Directed by ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ fame TJ Gnanavel, ‘Jai Bhim’ promises to be an intense social drama.

Suriya plays an advocate’s role in the film and his character is inspired from a real-life person. The film traces the discrimination against an oppressed community by the system. Suriya as a forthright lawyer will be seen waging a legal battle for the community.

Mike: Anaswara Rajan in John Abraham’s maiden Malayalam production venture

Bollywood star John Abraham is making his debut in Malayalam industry as a producer. His banner JA Entertainment is backing a new film titled ‘Mike’. It has ‘Thanneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Anaswara Rajan and Ranjith Sajeev as the leads. Vishnu Sivaprasad is directing the film and its shoot kick-started last day in Mysore.

JA Entertainment has earlier produced hit Hindi films like ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Madras Cafe’, ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’, ‘Batla House’ etc. The banner’s maiden Malayalam film is scripted by Aashiq Akbar Ali.

On the technical front, the makers of ‘Mike’ have got ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Radhan as the music director. This is his Malayalam debut. National award-winner Vivek Harshan will be handling the edits and cinematography is by Renadive, who has cranked the camera for films like ‘Comrade in America’, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ and ‘Shylock’.

Dybbuk: Here’s the trailer of Ezra Hindi remake starring Emraan Hashmi

We had earlier reported about Prithviraj’s 2017 horror flick ‘Ezra’ getting remade in Hindi with Emraan Hashmi in the lead. Titled ‘Dybbuk’, the film is directed by Jay K, who helmed the original as well. As the film gears up for its premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 29, the makers have released its trailer online.

Emraan Hashmi is reprising Prithviraj’s character and Priya Anand’s female lead role from the original is done by Nikita Dutta. The couple are on a vacation when Nikita’s character Mahi brings home an antique Jewish box. After they both encounter paranormal experiences, they learn that the box is a dybbuk containing an evil spirit. The couple then seeks the help of a rabbi to unravel its mystery. Will they survive the ordeal before their child is born is what the film is about.

‘Dynbbuk’ is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak under the banners of T-Series and Panorama Studios.

‘Ezra’ was a big commercial hit during the time of its release. It was noted for being the first attempt in making a proper horror flick in Malayalam rather than the usual horror comedies. Going by the trailer, the Hindi version also looks promising.

Nayattu among films shortlisted for India’s entry to Oscars

Martin Prakkat’s ‘Nayattu’ is among the films shortlisted for India’s official entry to the Oscar Awards. Tamil film ‘Mandela’ and the Hindi films ‘Sherni’ and ‘Sardar Udham’ are some of the others in contention. Award-winning Malayalam director Shaji N Karun is the jury Chairman this year. They will be selecting the film that will be nominated from India for the Best International Feature Film category.

As per reports, 14 films have reached the jury which comprises 15 members. The film selected from the shortlist will be sent as India’s entry for the Oscars which will be held in March 2022. However, the film will be considered for the award only if it secures a place in the nomination list.

Last year, the jury picked the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorail ‘Jallikkattu’ as India’s official submission. However, the film failed to get nominated. It was only the third Malayalam film after ‘Guru’ (1997) and ‘Adaminte Makan’ (2011) to represent India at the Oscars.

Rajinikanth’s upcoming film ‘Annaatthe’ has been censored with a U/A certificate. As is evident from the teaser, the film has a lot of violent action sequences, which is probably why the Censor Board refused to cleat it with a clean U certificate.

With the censoring done, ‘Annaatthe’ is now confirmed for Deepavali release. Simbu’s ‘Maanaadu’, the Arya-Vishal starrer ‘Enemy’ and Arun Vijay’s long-delayed ‘Vaa Deal’ are also part of the Deepavali race.

‘Annaatthe’ directed by Siva promises to be a family-oriented mass entertainer. Expectations are high on the film as Rajinikanth is doing a rural-based film after a long gap. Siva’s last film ‘Viswasam’ was also a huge success, which further enhances the hype.

‘Annaatthe’ boasts of a huge star cast comprising of actors like Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushbu, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Soori and Sathish. Vetri is the DOP and Ruben does the edits. D Imman is handling the music department.

‘Annaatthe’ is eyeing a grand release on November 4, 2021.

Article 15 Tamil remake starring Udhayanidhi Stalin titled as Nenjukku Needhi

We had earlier reported about the hit Hindi film ‘Article 15’ getting remade in Tamil with Udhayanidhi Stalin as the lead. The film has been titled as ‘Nenjukku Needhi’. An intriguing motion poster has also been released by the makers.

Bollywood-based producer Boney Kapoor had bagged the Tamil remake rights of ‘Article 15’. ‘Kanaa’ fame Arunraja Kamaraj is directing the remake version. The film has Udhayanidhi playing a cop’s role for the first time in his career. Tanya Ravichandran plays the female lead.

‘Article 15’ directed by Anubhav Sinha is a highly acclaimed film. It is about the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. The film has Ayushmann playing a city-bred police officer who investigates the missing of three teenage girls from a village. It slowly turns into his fight against the caste system after he realized that caste-based discrimination and other crimes are dismissed in rural India. It will be interesting to see how the makers adapt this in a Tamil setting.

‘Nenjukku Needhi’ is produced by Romeo Pictures and presented by Boney Kapoor’s Bay View Projects LLP in association with Zee Studios.

Vikram Vedha remake starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan goes on floors

The Hindi remake of hit Tamil film ‘Vikram Vedha’ has been launched. Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan are playing the lead roles in the film. It is directed by Pushkar-Gayathri, who helmed the original as well. Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks is producing the remake in association with Reliance Entertainment and Y Not Studios. The makers have begun shoot with Hrithik Roshan’s portions.

‘Vikram Vedha’, which got released in 2017, is an action-packed thriller starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi as the leads. While Madhavan played a honest police officer’s role, Vijay Sethupathi essayed the part of a grey-shaded gangster. Apart from emerging as a big hit at the box office, the film was also found critical appreciation.

In the Hindi version, Hrithik plays the gangster’s role and Saif will be seen as the cop. The makers must have tweaked the script for the remake to suit the sensiblities of the Hindi audience.
