Home starring Indrans and Sreenath Bhasi set to premiere in Amazon Prime Video

‘Home’ is an upcoming Malayalam film starring Indrans and Sreenath Bhasi as the leads. The film produced by is all set to have its premiere in Amazon Prime Video. It has just been announced that the film will be out on August 19.

‘Home’ is scripted and directed by Rojin Thomas, who was one of the directors of the hit film, ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’. The film has Indrans playing the role of a simple middle-aged common man. Though he has been a part of the industry for around 40 years, it is in the last few years that has been doing performance-oriented characters. ‘Home’ is his first mainstream project as a lead actor.

Manju Pillai plays his wife’s role in the film while Sreenath Bhasi and Naslen will be seen as their kids. The film promises to be a proper family drama. Kainakary Thangaraj, Maniyanpilla Raju, Srikant Murali, Vijay Babu and Johny Antony are also part of the cast. Neil D’Cunha is the cinematographer and music is by Rahul Subramanian.

Anjali to reprise Nimisha Sajayan’s role in Nayattu Telugu remake

We had earlier reported about the Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ getting remade in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. The Telugu rights have been acquired by Allu Arjun’s Geetha Arts. The makers are currently finalizing the cast and crew. Satya Dev, Rao Ramesh and Anjali are most likely to play the lead roles.

Satya Dev is known for his performances in films such as ‘Jyothi Lakshmi’, ‘Kshanam’, ‘Mana Oori Ramayanam’, ‘Bluff Master’ and ‘Brochevarevarura’. Last year, he starred in ‘Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya’, which is the remake of the National award-winning Malayalam film ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’.

In ‘Nayattu’ remake, Satya Dev will be reprising Kunchacko Boban’s role while Anjali and Rao Ramesh are expected to essay the parts done by Nimisha Sajayan and Joju George respectively.

‘Nayattu’ directed by Martin Prakkat a hard-hitting and thought-provoking film about how three cops are victimized by the government. Upon its theatrical release in April this year, the film failed to emerge as a commercial hit. But after its release on Netflix, the film found appreciation from many. There was also a section of netizens and critics who raised severe criticisms about the film’s politics.

It will be interesting to see how the makers of the remake versions adapt the script. Buzz is that the Tamil version will be helmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. Actor John Abraham has bagged the Hindi rights.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the cult hit ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut had Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna as the leads. On this special day, Farhan has announced his next directorial ‘Jee Le Zaraa’. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt play the lead roles in the film. From the title poster itself, it is evident that it’s a fun road movie similar to ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.

Announcing the project, Farhan Akhtar wrote in his social media handle,

Thrilled to announce my next film as director and what better day than 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai to do it.

‘Jee Le Zaraa’ is scripted by Farhan, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. The three are also jointly producing the film along with Ritesh Sidhwani.

Joju George’s Star censored with clean U; Set for theatrical release

Joju George is teaming up with ‘Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam’ director Domin D’Silva for a new film titled ‘Star’. The film which is touted to be a psychological mystery thriller also has Prithviraj Sukumaran in a cameo role. Abraham Mathew is producing the film under the banner of Abaam Movies. It has been censored with a clean U certificate and the makers have confirmed a theatrical release. Phars Films have bagged the GCC rights.

‘Star’ is scripted by Suvin S Somasekharan. As per the makers, the film explores the various Indian myths, and looks at how myths and blind beliefs affect people’s lives. The film comes with the tagline ‘Burst of Myths’. Prithviraj essays a character named Derrick, a doctor who unravels the mystery in the story. The film’s trailer was an interesting one with a lot of mystery elements in it.

‘Ladoo’ fame Gayathri Ashokan and Sheelu Abraham will also be seen in major roles. On the technical front, the film has Tharun Bhaskaran as the cinematographer and songs composed by M Jayachandran and Ranjin Raj. William Francis is handling the background score. Lalkrishnan S Achutham is editing the film.

Four films produced by Suriya set to be released on Amazon Prime

2D Entertainment, produced by actor couple Suriya and Jyothika, have signed a four-film deal with OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. First to be released will be ” directed by Arisil Moorthy. The film stars Ramya Pandian, ‘Oh My Kadavule’ fame Vani Bhojan, A Vadivel and Mithun Manickam in main roles. It will be premiering in September.

Sasikumar-Jyothika starrer ‘Udanpirappe’ will be the next to come out. The film directed by Era Saravanan is slated to release this October. From the title and first look poster, it appears to be a family drama set in a rural backdrop. D Imman is composing music for this film.

‘Jai Bhim’ starring Suriya, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan and Lijo Mol Jose will be premiering in November. The film directed by Tha Se Gnanavel is a legal drama based on a real life incident. Suriya plays an advocate who fights for the rights of a tribal community.

December will see the release of ‘Oh My Dog’, a fun entertainer starring veteran actor Vijay Kumar, his son Arun Vijay and grandson Arnav Vijay. Arnav is the latest from the Vijay Kumar family to make his acting debut. The film is directed by Sarov Shanmugam.

Exact release dates of these four films will be announced by Amazon Prime Video soon.

Malayalam actor Saranya Sasi passes away!

Malayalam actor Saranya Sasi passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She had been battling a rare form of brain tumor for the past nine years. She was 35.

Saranya started her acting career through TV serials. She has also done noticeable roles in films like ‘Chotta Mumbai’, ‘Thalappavu’ and ‘Bombay March 12’. She was diagnosed with brain tumor in 2008. She underwent a total of 11 surgeries during the period of treatment.

Earlier this year in May, Saranya and her mother were tested positive for Covid-19. She later developed pneumonia and was put on ventilator support. Though she tested negative after two weeks and was shifted from the ICU, her condition worsened after she she developed severe fever. She was then put on ventilator support.

Simbu and Gautham Vasudev Menon are teaming up for a new film titled as ‘Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu’. Its shoot got commenced recently. Buzz is that Kayadu Lohar will be seen as the female lead in this film. She has previously acted in the Kannada film ‘Mugilpete’. She is also essaying the female lead’s part in the upcoming Malayalam biggie ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’.

‘Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu’ promises to be a completely different film from Gautham Menon’s usual works. Its first look poster had Simbu in a stunning makeover as actor shed close to 15 kgs for this role. Reports suggest that the film is a rural action-drama and it is written by Jeyamohan.

AR Rahman is composing the music for this film. It is the third time collaboration of AR Rahman, Simbu and Gautham Menon after ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ and ‘Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada. Cinematography is by ‘Lucia’ fame Siddhartha Nuni. Art director Rajeevan, lyricist Thamarai, editor Anthony and costume designer Uthara Menon are also part of the team.

Minnal Murali to premiere on Netflix in September!

If talks are to be believed, the highly anticipated Malayalam film ‘Minnal Murali’ is skipping theatrical release and is set to premiere on Netflix this coming September. Though the makers were keen to release the film first in theatres, the uncertainty regarding when the pandemic situation gets better and things return back to normalcy must have forced them to opt for a direct OTT release. Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai has tweeted that Netflix bagged the deal for a huge price. His tweet reads,

‘Minnal Murali’ directed by Basil Joseph has Tovino Thomas in the lead. It is a superhero flick made on a big canvas. Planned as a pan-Indian film, it will be releasing in 5 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing the film.

‘Minnal Murali’ also stars Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram, Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Harisree Ashokan, Mammukoya, debutante Femina George and many others. The film is scripted by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew. Cinematographer Sameer Thahir, music director Shaan Rahman and Hollywood-based action choreographer Vlad Rimburg are part of the technical team.

Mythri Movie Makers, 14 Reels and G Mahesh Babu Entertainment Entertainment are jointly producing ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’. The film has has music scored by Thaman and cinematography by R Madhi. It is slated to hit screens on January 13, 2022.

Arya Dhayal, who shot to fame by doing viral cover versions for popular songs, has now made her playback singing debut. Her maiden film song is in Tamil and it is composed by the recent National award winner D Imman. Arya lent her voice for a track in the film ‘Udan Pirappe’, which stars Sasikumar and Jyothika as the leads. The film is directed by Era Saravnan and produced by actor Suirya’s 2D Entertainment.

Announcing Arya’s singing debut, composer Imman tweeted,
