Madras High Court orders stay to remake Soorarai Pottru in Hindi

It was recently announced that Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ would be remade in Hindi. Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Vikram Malhotra’s Abudantia Entertainment were supposed to produce the remake with Sudha Kongara donning the director’s hat once again. However, the Madras High Court has now ordered a stay on the film’s production. An injunction restraining 2D Entertainment from exploiting the film’s Hindi rights of based on the book ‘Simply Fly — A Deccan Odyssey’, authored by Captain GR Gopinath has been issued.

Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment, one of the producers of ‘Soorarai Pottru’, has approached the court against 2D Entertainment over the remaking rights of the film, including in Hindi. She has alleged that the film was to be remade in Hindi jointly by her and Suriya. Instead, Suriya entered into a new deal with Abundantia Entertainment without her consent. She also alleged that Suriya did not fulfill the obligations under the original contract between the two.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is inspired from the real life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. The film tells the story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching an airlines service with the aim of serving the underprivileged. The film got directly released in Amazon Prime Video and found unanimous praise.

Thiruchitrambalam: Three heroines in Dhanush’s next

Dhanush’s new film with director Mithran Jawahar got launched last day. The film has been titled as ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ and it is produced by Sun Pictures. The makers have roped in three top heroines — Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Raashi Khanna, to star alongside Dhanush. Interestingly, all of them are acting with Dhanush for the first time.

‘Thiruchitrambalam’ promises to a family entertainer. Director Mithran Jawahar has previously helmed films like ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’, ‘Kutty’, ‘Uthamaputhiran’ and ‘Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai’. Though all his previous films have been remakes, ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ promises to be an original work.

Dhanush and music director Anirudh Ravichander are reuniting after a 6-year-long gap with this film. DnA, as they are popularly known, have created several chartbuster songs in the past including the viral hit ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’. Expectations are huge as the blockbuster combo gets back together.

‘Thiruchitrambalam’ has Om Prakash as the cinematographer and Prasanna GK as the editor. Prakash Raj and Bharathiraja are also part of the cast.

D44: Dhanush’s next with Mithran Jawahar launched

Dhanush’s new film, tentatively titled as ‘D44’, has been launched. The film is directed by Mithran Jawahar, who has previously helmed films like ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’, ‘Kutty’, ‘Uthamaputhiran’ and ‘Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai’.
Interestingly, all his four films so far have been remakes. However, ‘D 44’, promises to be an original film. It is being produced by Sun Pictures. The film’s title will be announced today evening at 6 PM.

Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Raashi Khanna have been signed as the female leads. Filmmaker-turned-actor Bharathiraja and Prakash Raj will be seen in prominent roles. One of the film’s highlights is the reunion of Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander.

DnA, as they are popularly known, have created several chartbuster songs in the past including the viral hit ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’. They last teamed up six years back for ‘Thanga Magan’. Expectations will be huge when the combo gets back together.

Suriya’s new film ‘Jai Bhim’ is gearing up for direct release on Amazon Prime Video. Produced by the actor’s own banner 2D Entertainment, the film will be premiering in November. The production house has signed a 4-film deal with Prime.
Sasikumar-Jyothika starrer ‘Udanpirappe’, Arun Vijay-Arnav Vijay starrer ‘Oh My Dog’ and ‘Raame Aandalum Raavanan Aandalum’ directed by Arisil Moorthy are the other three films.

‘Jai Bhim’ directed by ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ fame TJ Gnanavel promises to be an intense social drama. The film is based on a real-life legal battle that occurred in 1993. It hss Suriya playing an advocate who fights for the rights of a tribal community. Rajisha Vijayan, Lijomol Jose of ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ fame and Manikandan, Prakash Raj and many others are part of the cast.

Sean Roldan takes is in charge of the music department. SR Kathir wields the lens and Philomin Raj handles the edits. Stunt choreography by AnbAriv duo.

From the first look, we can make out that Prabhu Deva plays a physically challenged person. To play the character, the actor practices regularly with a prosthetic leg and a professional trainer is training him to get the body language right. In the poster, he is seen holding a girl child and a iron rod on the other hand. The film promised to be an emotional action thriller.

‘Poikkal Kuthirai’ also stars Prakash Raj, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Raiza Wilson in prominent roles. Imman is composing the music. The film is produced by S Vinod Kumar of Mini Studio.

As we already know, the hit Malayalam film ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Koogle Kuttappa’. KS Ravikumar, Yogi Babu and ‘Bigg Boss’ stars Tharshan and Losliya will be seen as the leads in it. The film is now set to be remade in Hindi as well. Viki Rajani of Faith Films has got the remake rights and script works are currently underway. He is known for producing films like ‘Table No. 21’, ‘R…Rajkumar’, and ‘Phobia’. He is also remaking the acclaimed Tamil film ‘Aruvi’ with Fatima Sana Sheikh.

Viki Rajani will be producing ‘Android Kunjappan’ remake in partnership with Sony Pictures India. It is learnt that Anil Kapoor has been signed to play the lead role in the film. He is expected to reprise the character essayed by Suraj Venjaramoodu in the original. Details regarding the director or other team members are not yet known.

‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ directed by Ratheesh Balakrishna Poduval is a fun entertainer that is centered around a heartwarming relationship between a robot and an octogenarian. The film was a box-office hit that also won critical appreciation. It bagged three awards at the State level including ones for Best Debut Director and Best Actor (Suraj Venjaramoodu).

Dulquer Salmaan is teaming up with Bollywood filmmaker R Balki for a psychological thriller. The makers are currently finalizing its cast and crew. Veteran actor Sunny Deol has been signed to play a crucial role in the film. Reports suggest that he will be seen in a never-see-before avatar, unlike his usual romantic or action roles. This yet-to-be titled film will also star Shreya Dhanwanthary as the female lead. She is noted for her performances in popular web series like ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Scam 1992’.

R Balki is usually known for helming feel-good and inspiring films like ‘Cheeni Kum’, ‘Paa’ and ‘Padman’. This is the first time he is helming a thriller and expectations will be high. Veteran cinematographer PC Sreeram, who has cranked the camera for all of Balki’s films so far, has been retained for this one as well.

The makers of Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Bell Bottom’ have released the trailer online. While it was believed to be the remake of the 2019-released Kannada film of the same name, the trailer has proved it wrong as the film is based on an original screenplay. Directed by Ranjit M Tewari, it is an espionage spy thriller in which Akshay plays the role of a spy agent, who operates under the code name Bellbottom.

The film based on true events is about how Akshay’s character and his team free the passengers of a plane held hostage by terrorists. The trailer has Lara Dutta in an unrecognisable look as she plays the role of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Vaani Kapoor plays the role of Akshay’s wife and Huma Quereshi is also part of his team.

It was recently announced that ‘Bell Bottom’ will be hitting screens worldwide on August 19. Its release is expected to be a booster for theatrical business, atleast in North India.

The teaser of Arvind Swami’s new film ‘Vanangamudi’ has been released online. The film directed by Selva has the ‘Roja’ star in a cop’s role. He seems to be playing a mass-police character who is seen as a threat by many. The teaser features Arvind Swami as a full-fledged action hero. Arvind Swami, Ritika Singh, Simran, Nandita Swetha, Chandini Tamilarasan, Ganesh Venkatraman, Thambi Ramaiah, Harish Uthaman and many others are part of the cast.

‘Vanangamudi’ has music by D Imman and cinematography by Gokul. Anthony does the edits and stunts are choreographer by Silva. The film is produced by Ganesh Ravichandran under the banner of Magic Box Films Production. The makers have not yet announced the release plans.

Aravind Swami has some other promising projects in his kitty. He is donning dual roles in the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’. While he plays one of the leads in Karthick Naren’s segment ‘Project Agni’, Swami is also making his directorial debut with the segment ‘Roudhram’. It is set for premiere on August 6.

Third schedule of Vijay’s new film ‘Beast’ has begun in Chennai. Scenes featuring Vijay and the lead actress Pooja Hegde are being shot currently. Since the pandemic threat still looms large, the team is following all the safety protocols. Meanwhile, Malayali actor Shine Tom Chacko has joined the shoot. The actor, noted for his roles in films like ‘Ishq’, ‘Unda’ and ‘Love’, is making his Tamil debut with ‘Beast’. Though details regarding his character are not yet known, it is expected to be a prominent one.

‘Beast’ is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ fame. The film is shaping up as a big-scale action entertainer. Vijay reportedly plays the role of a con-agent in it. Yogi Babu, Malayali actress Aparna Das and many others are part of the cast. Anirudh Ravichander is the music director and Manoj Paramahamsa handles the camera. Action choreography is done by National award winners AnbAriv.

Sun Pictures is producing ‘Beast’, which is being planned as a January 2022 theatrical release.
