Alia Bhatt-Roshan Mathew starrer Darlings begins!

‘Darlings’ is an upcoming Hindi film starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew and ‘Gully Boy’ fame Vijay Varma in the lead roles. Debutant Jasmeet K Reen is directing the film. Red Chillies Entertainment headed by Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are presenting the film in association with Alia Bhatt’s newly launched Eternal Sunshine Productions. The team has already started the works. Last day, they shared photos of the script reading session in social medias.

Earlier this week, when the film’s production began, Alia Bhatt tweeted,

Day one of Darlings! my first film as a producer but I will always be an actor first and forever (in this case a very nervous actor). I don’t know what it is.. a night before I start a new film I get this nervous tingling energy all over my body.

I dream all night about messing up my lines.. become jumpy.. reach sets 15 mins before time fearing I’ll be late. I guess this feeling will never go away.. and it shouldn’t -because being nervous and feeling unsure means you really really care.

‘Darlings’, a dark comedy, is set in a lower middle-class neighbourhood in Mumbai. It is a quirky mother-daughter story revolving around the two who discover love and courage in exceptional circumstances. Alia Bhatt and Shefali play the lead roles. Roshan Mathew, who made his Bollywood debut last this year with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Choked’, is essaying a prominent role.

Radhe Shyam fetches second biggest post-release OTT deal after RRR

Prabhas-Pooja Hegde starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’ is in the final stages of shoot. The film directed by Radha Krishna Kumar is a period love story set in an European backdrop. The makers had resumed the last leg of the shooting recently in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the film’s OTT rights has been acquired by top players for an exorbitant price. Netflix has acquired the rights for the Hindi version while Zee 5 has bagged the rights for the other languages. Zee Network has also got the satellite rights for all languages. This is said to be the second biggest post-release deal in Indian cinema after ‘RRR’.

‘RRR’ deal is said to have fetched a whopping Rs 325 crores but the makers are yet to confirm it. Zee5 will be streaming the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions. Netflix will be streaming the Hindi, English, Portugese, Korean, Turkish and Spanish versions. Its satellite partners include Star Maa (Telugu), Star Vijay (Tamil), Zee Cinema (Hindi), Asianet (Malayalam) and Star Suvarna (Kannada).

Chathur Mukham OTT release date announced

‘Chathur Mukham’ starring Manju Warrier and Sunny Wayne is all set for OTT release. The film will be premiering on Zee 5 this coming Friday (July 9). Zee Keralam has also bagged the film’s satellite rights.

‘Chathur Mukham’ directed jointly by Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V is a techno-horror thriller. It is the first of its kind film in Malayalam. Scripted by Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar, the film tries to achieve the concept of finding a solution to something that’s beyond science using science. Manju, Sunny Wayne, Alenicer and ‘Nalpathiyonnu’ fame Saran Jith essay the main roles.

Earlier this year in April, ‘Chathur Mukham’ had its theatrical release and opened to largely positive response. Despite the good run, the makers were forced to withdraw it from theatres due to the second wave of pandemic. The film recently got selected for screening at the 25th Buncheon International Fantastic Film Festival, South Korea. It is selected under the category of ‘World Fantastic RED’. Films belonging to horror, fantasy and mystery genre are selected in this category. It is among the 258 films that have been selected from a total of 47 countries.

Wamiq Gabbi to play Sivagami in the Netflix series Baahubali Before The Beginning

Streaming giant Netflix is coming up with a new series, which is the prequel to the two ‘Baahubali’ films. Titled as ‘Baahubali Before The Beginning’, the series is based onon Anand Neelakantan’s 2017 and 2020 novels ‘The Rise of Sivagami’, ‘Chaturanga’ and ‘Queen of Mahishmathi’. Its shoot had started in 2018 with Deva Katta and Praveen Sataru as the directors. Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur was roped in to play the role of Sivagami, which was done originally by Ramya Krishnan in SS Rajamouli’s film versions. However, the series got scrapped after 80% of shoot was over as Netflix was unhappy with the output and wanted a total revamp.

As per latest reports, ‘Jannat’ fame Kunal Deshmukh and ‘The Girl On the Train’ fame Ribhu Dasgupta are on board to direct ‘Baahubali Before The Beginning’. The makers have also signed Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi to play Sivagami’s part. She has previously acted in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Pubjabi films. Wamiqa is familiar with the Malayali audience thanks to her smashing performance in ‘Godha’. She recently made a highly impressive digital debut with ‘Grahan’, streaming on Disney + Hotstar.

Amazon Prime shares new trailer of Malik

As reported recently, Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Malik’ is coming directly on Amazon Prime Video. The film is scheduled to have its world premiere on July 15. Amazon has released a new trailer today. This 1.24-minute long trailer is different from the earlier released one.

Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, ‘Malik’ is a big-budget semi-period film that spans multiple timelines. Fahadh Faasil plays the leader of a coastal community in it. As the film traverses different periods, he will be appearing in multiple looks. Vinay Forrt, Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Joju George, Dinesh Prabhakar, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja and Maala Parvathi will be seen in supporting roles.

‘Malik’ was originally planned for a grand theatrical release in mid-2020 but due to the pandemic, it got delayed multiple times. Though the makers were hopeful of a getting big screen release in May this year, the second wave of pandemic spoilt their plans. Though disappointed, cinephiles are now looking forward to its release on July 15.

Veteran actor Mammukoya is celebrating his birthday today. On this special occasion, the trailer of his new film ‘Janazah’ has been released online. He is playing the lead role in the film, which is being directed by Kiran Kambrath. It is produced by Kiran Kambrath, Sajin Vennaraveetil, Riyas Wayanad, Ghanashyam and Sijil Raj. Dream Maker’s Club is presenting the film in association with LB Entertainments.

‘Janazah’ has its screenplay penned by director Kiran Kambrath. It is the story of a fantastical journey to death of the 80-year-old, Gandharvan Haji ( Mamukkoya).When he travels at night in the same deathbed where his ancestors were carried, in the arms of his children. As he reaches the most relaxed state of his life, the wonders of the sky begin to call to him.

The cast includes ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ fame Sarasa Balussery,Sidhique Kodiyathur, Dominic Dom, Jayraj Kozhikode, Danesh Damodar, Sidhique Nallalam, Shibi Raaj, Riyas Wayanad, Biju Lal, Amirsha Muhammed, Marar Mangalath, Sincy, Mayoogha, Mehrin, Nivedh Sailesh, Ramin Muhammed and many others.

Cinematography and editing is by Ghanashyam. Dawn Vincent is the Director of Audiography.

Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan has confirmed that he is reuniting with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar for his next in Hindi. In a recent Facebook post, the director shared a candid photo taken with Akshay and added that they are having quality time discussing their next project. He has written,

After a long break, we are having quality time discussing about next Hindi movie and im enjoying these discussions with Akshay Kumar. (sic)

Priyadarshan has often said that there’s a great comfort factor while working with Akshay Kumar and that has reflected on the success of their films. The two have earlier worked together in superhit films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Garam Masala’. Unconfirmed reports suggest that their new film will be a comic thriller. It was originally supposed to go on floors last year itself.

Meanwhile, Priyadarshan’s comedy entertainer ‘Hungama 2’ is set for release on July 23 on Disney+Hotstar. The film stars Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Meezaan Jaffrey and Pranitha Subhash as the leads. It is the remake of the director’s 1994-film ‘Minnaram

‘Bhramam’, the Malayalam remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘Andhadhun’, has been wrapped up. Ace cinematographer Ravi K Chandran is directing the film and it has Prithviraj, Unni Mukundan, Mamta Mohandas and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles. Prithviraj shot for the tail-end portions in Pondicherry. Though Ravi K Chandran himself has cranked the camera for this film, the final song was shot by Jomon T John. The director has shared photos from the last day’s shoot in his Instagram handle.

‘Andhadhun’ directed by Sriram Raghavan was a hugely successful film. Apart from becoming a huge commercial hit, the film also won several awards which includes three at the National level. Ayushmann Khuranna, Radhika Apte and Tabu essayed the lead roles in it. In the Malayalam remake, Prithviraj reprises the role played by Ayushmann and Unni essays the cop’s part done by Manav Vij.

Sarath Balan has adapted the script to suit the Malayali audience. Shankar, Jagadeesh, Sudheer Karamana, Surabhi Lakshmi, Ananya and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast.

Official: Mohanlal’s next with Jeethu Joseph titled 12th Man

Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph are teaming up again after the smashing success of the ‘Drishyam’ series. The superstar has just made the official announcement of their new project through his social media handle. Titled as ’12th Man’, the film is scripted by Jeethu himself. Antony Perumbavoor is producing it under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

An intriguing poster has also been shared and it comes with the tagline ‘Unveiling the Shadows’. From the look of things, the film promises to be a mystery thriller. Jeethu has retained his regular set of technicians for this film as well. Cinematography will be by Satheesh Kurupu and music department will be handled by Anil Johnson. VS Vinayak is the editor and costumes will be designed by Jeethu’s wife Linda Jeethu.

Bunch of promising young actors to star alongside Mohanlal in 12th Man

It has been officially announced that Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph are teaming up for a new film titled ’12th Man’. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas, the film promises to be a mystery thriller. As per Jeethu Joseph, the film has only around 15 characters and the storyline happens in a single location over a span of 24 hours.

Along with Mohanlal, the cast includes talented young actors like Shine Tom Chacko, Aditi Ravi, Leona Lishoy, Anusree, Veena Nandakumar, ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Chandhunadh, Sshivadha, Priyanka Nair, Saiju Kurup and ‘Drishyam 2′ fame Santhi Priya.

On the technical front, Jeethu has retained his regular set of technicians — cinematographer Satheesh Kurupu and music director Anil Johnson. VS Vinayak is the editor and costumes will be designed by Jeethu’s wife Linta Jeethu.

Since ’12th Man’ is a small-scale film that is most set in a single location, the makers are planning to shoot it within the current Covid-induced restrictions. The film is expected to go on floors as soon as the Kerala government grants permissions for shoot.
