Pitta Kathalu teaser: Netflix’s first Telugu anthology film looks promising

Streaming giant Netflix has announced its first Telugu original film. Titled as ‘Pitta Kathalu’, it is a four-part anthology film directed by Tharun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin and Sankalp Reddy. Its teaser has also been released online. We can make out that it is a female-oriented film with the lead roles played by Shruthi Haasan, Amala Paul, Eesha Rebba and Lakshmi Manchu. Ashima Narwal, Jagapathi Babu, Satya Dev, Saanve Megghana and Sanjith Hegde are also part of the cast.

‘Pitta Kathalu’ tells the stories of four distinctly bold women, four journeyed of love and betrayal.
Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment are jointly producing the film. It is scheduled to release on 19 February.

Last month, Netflix released their first Tamil original film. Titled ‘Paava Kadhaigal’, it was also a four-part anthology film

Release date announced for Akshay Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey

The makers of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bachchan Pandey’ have announced that the film will be releasing on January 26, 2022. The star has also shared a new photo of the menacing look he will be sporting in the film. Farhad Samji is directing the film and it is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala

Initially, ‘Bachchan Pandey’ was rumoured to to be the remake of hit Tamil film ‘Veeram’ but later it was reported that the makers are instead planning to remake ‘Jigarthanda’, also a hit film. Rajkummar Rao, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon were the original choices but things didn’t fall in place then. Now, they are reviving the film as ‘Bachchan Pandey’, making some changes to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi audience.

‘Jigarthanda’ directed by Karthik Subbaraj is an unusual gangster-comedy starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha and Lakshmi in the leads. The film was a big success and enjoys a cult status today. Bobby had also won a National award for his performance in the film. In the Hindi version, the makers are planning a role reversal with Kriti and Akshay playing the lead leads. While Akshay will be seen playing Bobby Simha’s gangster character, Kriti will be reprising the filmmaker’s role done by Siddharth. Jacqueline Fernandez and Arshad Warsi are also part of the main cast.

Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shruti Ramachandran and Suraj Venjaramoodu are coming together for a new film titled ‘Kaanekaane’. It marks the reunion of the ‘Uyare’ combo — director Manu Ashokan and script writer duo Bobby-Sanjay. The film’s first look poster featuring Tovino, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Suraj Venjaramoodu got released today.

Sharing the poster in her Instagram handle, Aishwarya Lekshmi wrote,

Unlike Manu Ashokan’s debut film ‘Uyare’, which was an inspiring story based on true events, ‘Kaanekaane’ is a fictional tale of real human relationships and emotions. On the technical front, the film has Alby Antony as the cinematographer and Abhilash Chandran as the editor. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame is composing the music. The film is being produced under the banner of DreamKatcher.

Vijay Sethupathi to play the villain in Prabhas’ Salaar?

Recently, it was announced that Prabhas would be teaming up with ‘KGF’ director Prashanth Neel for a mega-budget action film titled ‘Salaar’. Hombale Films is producing the film, which is planned as a pan-Indian project. Buzz is that the makers have approached Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi to play the villain role in the film. It is said that director Prashanth Neel was highly impressed with the actor’s performance in ‘Master’ and decided to approach him for ‘Salaar’. Since Vijay Sethupathi has already comitted for several projects, a confirmation regarding his casting is still awaited.

‘Salaar’ got launched on January 15 with a customary pooja ceremony. Prabhas, ‘KGF’ star Yash and many others were present for the launch held at Hyderabad. From the first look poster, it is evident that it will be a full-on action flick. Similar to ‘KGF’ and ‘Baahubali’, this film is also planned as be a pan-Indian film with a wide, multi-lingual release

Mohanlal’s Aarattu set for Onam release!

Theatres have resumed functioning in Kerala with 50% audience capacity. Tamil superstar Vijay’s ‘Master’ was the first release post-pandemic and it had a phenomenal reception in the State. Last day, Jayasurya’s ‘Vellam’ became the first Malayalam film to hit screens after a gap of 318 long days. Almost 20 odd films is now lined up for release.

‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ is arguably the most hyped film of the year. It has been announced that the film will be releasing on March 26. However, latest reports suggest that the release might get postponed. The makers are yet to confirm this officially but it is learnt that theatres have already been informed about the change in plans.

Meanwhile, it is also heard that Mohanlal’s other film in the making, ‘Aarattu’, will be releasing on August 12 during the Onam season. The film currently in the final stages of shoot. Directed by B Unnikrishnan, the film has Mohanlal playing a larger-than-life character named Neyyattinkara Gopan. Udhayakrishna has scripted the film and it is expected to be a mass entertainer that appeals to all sections of the audience.

After Porinju Mariam Jose, Joshiy to direct Biju Menon next

After a series of duds, veteran filmmaker Joshiy made a successful comeback in 2019 with ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’. The film starring Joju George, Chemban Vinod Jose and Nyla Usha was well received and emerged as a box office hit. It is learnt that Joshiy to planning to make a Biju Menon starrer next. Like the director’s previous film, this one is also expected to be a power-packed mass entertainer. Nishad Koya is said to be scripting the film. More details are awaited.

Biju Menon meanwhile has ‘Lalitham Sundaram’ and ‘Aarkkariyam’ coming up. ‘Lalitham Sundaram’ has him acting alongside Manju Warrier after almost two decades. They have previously acted together in ‘Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu’, ‘Pranayavarnangal’ and ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’. The actress’ brother Madhu Warrier is directing the film that is touted to be a feel-good family entertainer.

‘Aarkkariyam’ is the directorial debut of popular cinematographer Sanu Joh Varughese. Along with Biju Menon, the lead cast also includes Sharafudheen and Parvathy. Biju Menon is playing an old man’s role in it.

Mammootty is back in absolute style; One shoot resumes!

After almost a 10-month long break, Mammootty has finally returned back to film sets. Last day, he resumed shooting for his political film ‘One’. The makers have shared a video of him arriving at the sets. The superstar looks stunning in the video with his stylish new hairstyle and overall swag. He has only very few portions left to be completed which will be wrapped up quickly.

‘One’ has Mammootty playing the role of Kerala’s Chief Minister named Kadakkal Chandran. Bobby-Sanjay duo has scripted the film and it is directed by Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame. The film has several supporting actors in the cast. Murali Gopy and Joju George will be seen in prominent roles as the opposition leader and party secretary, respectively.

Nimisha Sajayan, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Gayathri Arun, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mamukoya, P Balachandran, Ishaani Krishna and many others are part of the film. Vaidy Somasundaram is the cinematographer and music department is handled by Gopi Sunder. Ichais Productions is backing the film.

Varthamanam teaser; Parvathy-starrer looks relevant in the current socio-political situation!

Parvathy starrer ‘Varthamanam’ is gearing up for release. The film was recently embroiled in a controversy after the regional Censor Board reportedly denied permission to screen the film alleging that its theme is anti-national and could destroy religious harmony. After the issue heated up, the makers received a go-ahead from the Delhi Central Censor Board revising committee.

Last day, the teaser of ‘Varthamanam’ got released online. The film has Parvathy playing a character named Faiza Sufiya. She is a research student at the JNU. For the last few years, the university has been grabbing nationwide attention over the several political incidents and protests occurring in the campus. The film is actually inspired from these true events.

National Award winning filmmaker Sidhartha Siva of ‘101 Chodyangal’ and ‘Sakhavu’ fame, is directing the film. National award winner Aryadan Shoukath has scripted it based on the current socio-political issues in the country. He is also producing the film along with Benazeer of Benzy Productions.

Roshan Mathew, noted for his roles in ‘Moothon’ and ‘Kappela’, plays Parvathy’s romantic interest in ‘Varthamanam’. Veteran Siddique, Sanju Sivaram, Sudheesh, Nirmal Palazhi, Dain Davis and some non-Malayali actors are also part of the cast.

Biju Menon, Parvathy and Sharafudheen are playing the lead roles in popular cinematographer Sanu John Varughese’s directorial debut. The film has been titled as ‘Aarkkariyam’ and its teaser has been released online. From the teaser, we can make out that the film has Parvathy and Sharafudheen playing a married couple.

The story set during the pandemic time is about a couple who travel from Mumbai to Kerala just before the nationwide lockdown is announced. The teaser has a scene featuring the two wondering about how to return back to their daughter. Biju Menon is playing an old man who is part of the couple’s family. Saiju Kurup and Arya Salim are also essaying crucial roles in the film.

‘Aarkkariyam’ is scripted by Sanu John Varughese, Rajesh Ravi and Arun Janardhanan. The technical department comprises of G Sreenivas Reddy as the cinematographer and Mahesh Narayanan as the editor. Neha Nair- Yakzan Gary Pereira duo is composing the songs and background score is done by Sanjay Divecha.

The film is being produced jointly by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mill and Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment.

Thalapathy 66: Vijay to team up with Theeran, Valimai director H Vinoth?

Vijay is currently basking in the success of ‘Master’ that is having a phenomenal run at the box office. As already reported, his next film (Thalapathy 65) will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ fame. Sun Pictures is producing the film, which is scheduled to go on floors by April.

Meanwhile, Vijay is also hearing scripts for his next after Nelson’s film. A section of Kollywood medias are reporting that director H Vinoth is one of the frontrunners to helm ‘Thalapathy 66’. The young filmmaker is popular for his films like ‘Sathuranga Vettai’, ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ and ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, the Tamil remake of acclaimed Hindi film, ‘Pink’. Vinoth is currently working on ‘Valimai’, a big-budget action film starring Thala Ajith. Expectations are huge on this film that has been in the making for over a year.

Apparently, Vinoth had approached Vijay with a political script right after the release of ‘Sarkar’. However, the star denied it as he was not very keen on doing back to back political films. It is not sure if the two are once again in talks for the same project.

A confirmation is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
