Kaduva controversy: Stay order on SG 250 to continue!

The Ernakulam district court has extended the stay order on Suresh Gopi’s 250th film (SG 250) based on the copyright complaint filed by scenarist Jinu Abraham. He had earlier approached the court alleging that there were similarities between his film ‘Kaduva’ and ‘SG 250’.

‘Kaduva’ starring Prithviraj is to be directed by Shaji Kailas and ‘SG 250’ was announced with debutant Mathew Thomas as the director. It must be noted that the latter is a former assistant of ‘Kaduva’ writer Jinu Abraham. The controversy sprouted after it came to light that both the films are based on the same real-life person, Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan.

On his part, Kuruvachan has made it clear that both the films are being made without his permission and he has the liberty to proceed against them legally. Long back, Kuruvachan had discussed the idea about a film based on his character with Renji Panicker. Shaji Kailas had planned to direct the film with Mohanlal in the lead but it didn’t take off then.

Shaji Kailas has repeatedly stated that ‘Kaduva’ is a completely fictional work and not based on Kuruvachan’s life. They are planning to start shooting very soon.

Kannan Thamarakkulam’s new film ‘Maradu 357’ based on the Maradu flats demolition is gearing up for release. A new song from the film got shared online recently. ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef and a newcomer actor feature in this romantic song video. Hari Raveendran and Evelyn Vincent have sung the track. Lyrics is penned by Rajeev Alunkal and it is set to tunes by the band, 4 Musics.

Maradu flats demolition is an incident that grabbed widespread attention in Kerala. Dinnesh Pallath has scripted the film based on that incident. The film has an elaborate cast. Anoop Menon plays one of the lead roles. Dharmajan who is mostly known for his comedy roles is playing a performance-oriented character. He will be seen as a flat security who has his one hand amputated.

Manoj K Jayan, Sheelu Abraham, Noorin, Baiju Santhosh, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sarayu, Kailash, Sudheesh and many others are also part of the cast. The film has camera handled by Ravichandran and editing done by VT Sreejith. 4 Musics has composed the songs while background score is done by Saanand George Grace.

Abaam Movies and Swarnalaya Cinemas are jointly producing the film.

Sreenath Bhasi is in a purple patch of sorts. After delivering a string of impressive performances, the actor is now flooded with offers. His upcoming film ‘Sumesh and Ramesh’ is gearing up for an OTT release. He will also be seen in the upcoming films of directors Arun Kumar Arvind, Amal Neerad and Abhilash Kumar.

Sreenath Bhasi has now signed a new film titled ‘Dhuniyavinte Orattath’. He along with Sudhi Koppa will be seen playing the lead roles in the film. It will be directed by Tom Emmatty of ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame. Prince Hussain and Linto Thomas are producing the film under the banner of Story and Thoughts Production. The banner last produced the hit film ‘Luca’. Catalyst Entertainment Pvt Ltd is also part of the production.

‘Dhuniyavinte Orattath’ is scripted by Prasant Murali and Safeer Rumane. Kerala State Award winner Manesh Madhavan will be cranking the camera. Sneha Nair and Jabir Ottapurakal are the co-producers. Gokul Nath G is the executive producer. The film will also have Prasant Murali and Anwar Shereef essaying major roles. Details regarding the film’s genre or when shoot begins are not yet known.

Recently, it was announced that Jayasurya would be starring in a new film titled ‘John Luther’. It is written and directed by debutant Abhijith Joseph. As per reports, Jayasurya will be seen playing a cop’s role in the film, which is said to be a thriller. The cast also includes Aditi Ravi, Deepak Parambol, ‘Ambili’ fame Tanvi Ram and Siddique.

Thomas P Mathew is producing ‘John Luther’ under the banner of Alonsa Films. Roby Varghese Raj will be wielding the camera and music department will be handled by Shaan Rahman. Praveen Prabhakar is in charge of the edits.

Jayasurya meanwhile has his kitty full with some interesting projects. He has committed for an ambitious film based on the life of Kadamattath Kathanar. ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ fame Rojin Thomas will be directing the film that has been titled as ‘Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer’. The project which planned to be made in 3D format in two parts is currently in the pre-production phase.

Jayasurya’s next release will be ‘Vellam’ directed by ‘Captain’ fame Prajesh Sen. The actor also has ‘Aposthalan’ and ‘Aadu 3’ in the pipeline. He will also be starring in the biopic of ‘Metro Man’ Sreedharan. The film titled as ‘Rama Sethu’ will be directed by VK Prakash.

The Malayalam blockbuster ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is set to be remade in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. Remake rights have already been bagged by top production houses from the respective industries and pre-production works are currently underway. Telugu rights of the film was bagged by Sithara Entertainment.

It was initially reported that the Telugu remake will have Rana Daggubati and Ravi Teja in the lead roles. However, going by the latest reports there seems to be a total shift in the casting. Superstar Pawan Kalyan is said to have shown interest in the project. He is likely to play the role played by Biju Menon in the orginal. For reprising Prithviraj’s character, the makers are in talks with Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi. It is reported that a formal announcement regarding the same will be made on September 2, which happens to be Pawan Kalyan’s birthday.

Venki Atlury, known for directing films like ‘Tholi Prema’ and ‘Rang De’, is likely to helm the Telugu version of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. The original directed by Sachy revolves around the raging conflict between a policeman and a retired havildar. Since the film was a huge hit, the makers of the remake versions will be hoping to repeat a similar success.

Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 2’ is set to be the first mainstream Malayalam film to go on floors post the lockdown. The makers are planning to start shooting on September 14. As the Covid-19 crisis is worsening, shoot will happen as per the safety protocols laid by the government. To ensure complete safety of the team members, the whole cast and crew will be quarantined during the entire duration of shoot.

As per trustworthy reports, shoot will kick-start with a 14-day long schedule in Kochi. The next leg of shoot will be in Thodupuzha. Arrangements are as such that the cast and crew members will have not any contact with outsiders. No team member will also be allowed to go out.

Mohanlal had returned back from Chennai last month and was in self-quarantine for the last couple of weeks. He recently got tested negative for Covid-19. The actor, who has been sporting a long-bearded look during the lockdown days, has finally shaved it to get back to his usual getup.

As per director Jeethu Joseph, ‘Drishyam 2’ will continue exactly from where the first part ended. The story will once again be centered around the lives of Georgekutty and family. Along with Mohanlal, all the major actors from ‘Drishyam’ including Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sarath and Kalabhavan Shajon are likely to be retained in the cast.

Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film.

Janhvi Kapoor’s latest film ‘Gunjan Saxena’ has been the talk of the town for the last few days. The film which got released directly in Netflix opened to largely positive reviews from the critics. Directed by debutant Sharan Sharma, it is the biopic of Gunjan Saxena, a flight lieutenant who was posted in Kargil during the 1999 war.

Janhvi’s earnest performance in the titular role is getting praised by many. In a recent interview to Film Companion, the youngster revealed that Malayalam actress Manju Warrier had sent a message to her father Boney Kapoor after being impressed by the film. Janhvi added that she felt really happy on getting appreciated by an actress who she completely adores.

While cinephiles have already lapped up ‘Gunjan Saxena’, the film is also facing backlash from a section of netizens due to the whole ‘nepotism’ thing. Following complaints from the Indian Air Force, alleging that the makers have shown the institution in bad light, hyper nationalists are also trying to put down the film.

On their part, the makers have made it clear that ‘Gunjan Saxena’ is a fictionalized account of a true story about a woman who fulfilled her ambition of becoming a pilot and showed unparalleled courage on battlefield. Along with Janhvi, the cast also includes Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar and Manav Vij.

Karan Johar has produced the film under the banner of Dharma Productions.

Actor Sunny Wayne is celebrating his birthday today. To make the day further special, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Anugraheethan Antony’ have released the teaser online. Prithviraj Sukumaran shared the teaser through his social media handle. He also wished Sunny a very happy birthday.

‘Anugraheethan Antony’ looks like a rom-com from the promos. While Sunny Wayne plays the titular role, Gouri Kishan of ’96’ fame is paired with him Siddique, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Manikandan Achari, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Baiju and Muthumani are part of the supporting cast. The film has a bunch of newcomers in the crew. Debutant Prince Joy is directing the film and it is scripted by Naveen T Manilal. Jishnu R Nair and Aswin Prakash have penned the story.

On the technical front, Selvakumar is the cinematographer and Arjun Ben does the editing. Music department is being handled by Arun Muraleedharan. M Shijith is producing the film under the banner of Lekhsya Entertainments.

Raatchasan emerges as the highest rated Tamil film in IMDB; Makers hint that a sequel is on cards!

Internet Movie Date base, popularly known as IMDb is an online database of information related to world films, television programs, home videos, video games and internet streams. The website ranks a list of the best in various categories. It is determined by customers who rate films and TV shows on a ten-point scale.

The Vishnu Vishal starrer ‘Raatchasan’ with a rating of 8.5 has now emerged as the top-ranked Tamil film on the website. It is followed by ‘Vikram Vedha’ and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Nayakan’. ‘Raatchasan’ also holds the third place in the list of top Indian films. Sathyajit Ray’s ‘Pather Panchali’ and the 1979 film ‘Golmaal’ are at the top two positions.

Along with sharing their happiness, Vishnu Vishal and director Ramkumar have also hinted that a sequel for ‘Raatchasan’ is on cards. The latter has tweeted that script works are progressing. ‘Raatchasan’ is about the story of an aspiring filmmaker who becomes a cop after his father’s death and how he tries to track down a serial killer.

Releasing in October 2018, the film became a huge blockbuster and also received highly positive reviews from critics. It was successfully remade in Telugu as ‘Rakshasudu’ with Nithiin reprising Vishnu’s role.

Indrans to play the lead in Friday Film House’s next

Vijay Babu of Friday Film House has announced that his banner’s next film will have Indrans in the lead role. It is scripted and directed by Rojin Thomas, who was one of the directors of the hit film, ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’. The makers are planning to start shooting immediately after Onam.

Though Indrans has been part of the industry for nearly three days, it is in the last few years that has been doing some very interesting characters. Apart from his usual humour roles, the veteran has also been pulling off some complex, performance-oriented characters. Recently, he had won the Best Actor award at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival for his extraordinary performance in ‘Veyilmarangal’, directed by Dr Biju.

Rojin Thomas’ upcoming film, which is yet to be titled, will mark Indrans’ first mainstream project as a lead actor. Another popular young actor will be seen playing his son’s part in the film. Rojin has retained the same technicians from his first two films — ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ and ‘Jo and the Boy’. Neil D’Cunha will be the cinematographer and music department will be handled by Rahul Subramanian.
