Forensic becomes the biggest opener in Tovino’s career

After going through a lean patch, Tovino Thomas is finally coming back to form. His latest film ‘Forensic’, which hit screens last day, has taken the biggest opening of his career. As per the makers, the film has earned Rs 2.14 crore from its first day collections in Kerala and Rest of India (RoI) centres. As the word of mouth is positive, a huge weekend is definitely on the cards.

‘Forensic’ is written and directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. Going by the response in social medias and in theatres, the film seems to have satisfied the thriller-loving Malayali audience. Critic reviews as well as the feedback from general audience have been largely positive. Passionate cinephiles in social medias have given a clean chit for the film rating it as a proper thriller that is worth watching in big screen.

‘Forensic’ is basically an investigative-thriller centred around a series of abduction and killing of girl children in the capital city of Trivandrum. Mamta Mohandas’ character Rithika Xavier IPS heads the investigation. Tovino Thomas plays the role of a medico-legal advisor named Samuel John Kaattookaran. ‘Bigil’ fame Reba Monica John assists him. Rony David, Anwar Shereef and Renji Panciker are also part of the investigating team.

How they solve the case and nab the culprit based on scientific evidences, killing patterns and similarities with a series of similar killings 10 years back have been presented in a thoroughly engaging manner. With multiple twists and unexpected turns, the film offers a gripping experience.

Saiju Kurup, ‘Lilli’ fame Dhanesh Anand, Prathap Pothen, Giju John, Anil Murali and Srikanth Murali have also essayed important roles. Music director Jakes Bejoy, cinematographer Akhil George and editor Shameer Muhammed form the main technical team.

The film is produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

The latter is seen imitating Suresh Gopi in this scene by mimicking one of his recent famous dialogues. Johny Antony’s hilarious performance in the film has been widely appreciated.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ is a rom-com entertainer with a dream star cast comprising of Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Dulquer Salmaan. Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan’s has written and directed the film. It is a simple feel-good entertainer that revolves around relationships. The film talks about love and the importance of a companion in life. Critics and commoners alike have lapped up the film.

The talented duo of Arjun Ashokan and Anna Ben are all set to come together for the first time. ‘C/O Saira Banu’ fame Antony Sony will be directing the film. It is scripted by Libin Varghese and Ahammed Khabeer, the writers of last year’s hit film ‘June’. Chavara Films is producing the film, which is yet to be titled. Last day, the makers released a casting call looking for both male and female actors. More details regarding the technical crew and when shoot begins are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Both the lead actors, Arjun Ashokan and Anna Ben, have some other interesting projects coming up. Arjun has his kitty full with films like ‘Ajagajantharam’, ‘Thuramukham’, ‘Thattassery Koottam’, ‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ and an yet-to-be titled film with Girish AD of ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame.

With just a month left for release, the makers of ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ have kick-started the final round of promotions. A stunning new poster featuring the father son duo of Mohanlal and Pranav has just been released online. It is the first poster featuring the two together.

While Mohanlal plays the lead character of Kunjali Marakkar IV, Pranav essays the younger version of the same character. Pranav’s is actually an extended cameo appearance in the film. Director Priyadarshan had earlier confirmed that, though Pranav’s screen time is limited, there is enough scope for him to showcase his skills as he will be seen performing stunts and a dance sequence along with Kalyani Priyadarshan.

Official: Ajay Devgn to star in Kaithi Hindi remake!

Ever since the release of ‘Kaithi’ last October, there has been talks about the film getting remade in Hindi. Dream Warrior Pictures, the original producers, teamed up with Reliance Entertainment to produce the Hindi version. It has finally been announced that Ajay Devgn will be starring in the Hindi remake. The star’s own banner is also associated with the production. The makers are planning to start shooting in the second half of the year and release it in February, 2021.

Sharing the big news, SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures has written in his Twitter handle,

‘Kaithi’ starring Karthi in the lead had hit screens during the last Diwali season. Despite facing stiff competition from Vijay’s ‘Bigil’, ‘Kaithi’ had a glorious run at the box office thanks to the highly positive word of mouth from the public. It was director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s second film and he managed to impress one and all.

The biggest highlight of ‘Kaithi’ was it was a pure action film sans any unnecessary hindrances like songs, romance or a separate comedy track. Critics and commoners unanimously praised the film and it emerged as a blockbuster success. The film ends on a cliffhanger with a potential opening for a second part. Both Karthi and the makers had announced that a sequel is on the cards.

As of now, it remains to be seen if the Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn will be a faithful remake without any unwanted commercial elements.

Recently, we had reported about Aashiq Abu directing a film with Soubin Shahir and Rima Kallingal as the leads. The film is scheduled to start rolling by the first week of March. Girish Gangadharan, one of the leading cinematographers in Malayalam film industry at present, will be cranking the camera for this film. This is his first outing with Aashiq Abu, so we can expect a real visual treat. Girish is noted for his work in films like ‘Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi’, ‘Angamaly Diaries’, ‘Jallikattu’ and ‘Sarkar’.

Aashiq Abu’s new film is being scripted by Muhsin Parari, who had earlier co-written ‘Virus’ and ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. Interestingly, it is a fantasy film that has Soubin playing the role of a ‘gandharvan’. For the uninformed, ‘Gandharva’ is a mythological creature in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is a name used for distinct heavenly beings.

It must be noted that legendary filmmaker Padmarajan had helmed a similar fantasy film titled ‘Njan Gandharvan’ back in 1991. The film, which was about a girl and her passion for a celestial lover, who is invisible to others, is till date regarded as a cult classic by Malayalam movie lovers.

Dulquer Salmaan names his three recent favourite Tamil films

Dulquer Salmaan is staging to comeback to Kollywood after a gap with his new film ‘Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal’. As the film is set for release on February 28, the star has been actively promoting the film. In a recent chat show with an online media, he was asked to name three of his favorite Tamil films. He instantly named ’96’, ‘Visaranai’ and ‘Super Deluxe’.

’96’ directed by Prem Kumar is an intense romantic film about two high school sweethearts getting to meet after 20 years. Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha played the roles in the film and it became a sensational success across the South. The film got remade in Kannada as ’99’ and in Telugu as ‘Jaanu’.

‘Visaranai’ is a crime thriller directed by Vetrimaaran. Based on the novel ‘Lock Up’, it presents a disturbing picture about other state workers getting brutally tortured in police custody and how bureaucracy works. The film got widespread critical acclaim and was successfully screened at various international film festivals. It was also selected as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.

‘Super Deluxe’ directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja is a hyperlink film woven on four subplots with characters spilling across subplots. Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Mysskin, Ramya Krishnan and Samantha played the major roles. It was was widely rated as one of the best Indian films of 2019. It was screened at Fantasia International Film Festival, the largest genre film festival in North America and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
