Veyyon Silli: First single from Soorarai Pottru released

The makers of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ have released the first single in a Spicejet Boeing 737 flight. It is the first of its kind promotional activity in the history of Tamil cinema. The song titled ‘Veyyon Silli’ is sung by Harish Sivaramakrishnan, the leader singer of the popular band, Agam. Vivek has penned the lyrics and GV Prakash has composed the track. Earlier in the day, the makers had released a 1.30 minute long teaser of the same. Suriya and Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali feature in this song video that looks very unusual.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is co-written and directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. It is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Suriya plays the lead character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, who is a common man hailing from a small town who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Along with Suriya, the cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkatb and Mohan Babu in important roles.

Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment.

If there is one film that the whole of Malayali film lovers are eagerly waiting for, it has to be ‘Bilal’, the second part of Mammootty’s cult gangster film ‘Big B’. Two years a after the film got announced, it is finally getting ready to go on floors. Amal Neerad, who made his directorial debut with ‘Big B’, is helming the sequel as well.

Mamta Mohandas, who played an important role in ‘Big B’ has confirmed that she is part of the sequel as well. She also informed that shoot will be beginning by the first week of March. It is not yet known who else from the first part will be retained in the sequel.

‘Big B’ that got released in 2007 was a stylishly shot gangster flick based in Kochi. Mammootty played the lead role with supporting roles essayed by Manoj K Jayan, Bala, Lena, Vinayakan, Vijayaraghavan and Maniyanpilla Raju. During its time of release, ‘Big B’ could not fare well at the box office. But over the years, it went on to attain a cult status.

‘Bilal’ already has sky-high hype, so it will be a tough task for Amal Neerad and team to meet the expectations. Official announcement with full details regarding the cast, crew and when shoot begins are expected to be made soon.

Mammootty’s One gears up for a grand release in April

After the superhit success of ‘Shylock’, megastar Mammootty’s release will be ‘One’. It is one of the most awaited Malayalam films in the first half of the year. The makers have decided to release the film during the first week of April. Promotions are being designed that way with the teaser and trailer set to be out soon.

One’ is scripted by National award winners Bobby-Sanjay. Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame is directing the film. Mammootty plays the role of a Chief Minister in it. It is after several years that he is doing a political film in Malayalam and hence expectations are huge among the audience.

Writer duo Bobby-Sanjay have taken inspiration from real life incidents to script this film. Apparently, the film tries to address how an ideal Chief Minister should function. Mammootty’s character in the film is named as Kadakkal Chandran. ‘One’ also has a bunch of talented supporting actors. Murali Gopy, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Gayathri Arun, Balachandra Menon, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley, Mamukoya, Balaji Sharma and many others are part of the cast.

Vaidy Somasundaram is the DOP and music department is handled by Gopi Sunder. Sreelakshmi R is producing the film under the banner of Ichais Productions. Anto Joseph Film Company is releasing the film in Kerala.

As informed earlier, a 1.30 minute long song teaser from ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has been released online. Suriya and Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali feature in this song video that looks very unusual. The full song will be out today evening at 5 PM. The makers have planned to release the foe released in a Spicejet Boeing 737 flight. Spicejet Chairman Ajay Singh will unveil the Spicejet Boeing 737 flight with the film’s poster branding.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Suriya plays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from a small town who dreams of owning an aircraft business.

Veteran filmmaker VK Prakash’s daughter Kavya Prakash is making her directorial debut with a film titled ‘Vaanku’. It is adapted from a a popular short story of the same name written by Unni R. The film has ‘Thanneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Anaswara Rajan in the lead role. ‘Guppy’ fame Nandana Varma, Gopikq Ramesh and Meenakshi Unnikrishnan will be seen in other major roles. The story is centred around these four girls, who will be seen as collegemates based in Malappuram. It is primarily about a girl who wanted to become a muezzin like her father and call the azan against the will of the religious fundamentalists.

Along with the aforementioned four girls, the cast also includes seasoned actors like Joy Mathew, Vineeth, Major Ravi, Thesni Khan, Prakash Bare, Shrikanth Murali, Sarasa Balussery and many others. Shabna Muhammed has penned the adpated screenplay and dialogues. Major Ravi’s son Arjun Ravi is the DOP and music will be composed by Ouseppachan. 7J Films and Shimoga Creations are presenting the film in association with Trends Ad Filmmakers Pvt Ltd.

Hit maker Neeraj Pandey bags Ishq Hindi remake rights

Last year’s critically acclaimed Malayalam film ‘Ishq’ is getting remade in Tamil and Hindi. As reported by us earlier, the Tamil version will have Kathir playing the lead role and ‘Zero’ fame Shiv Mohaa will be directing it. In Bollywood, the film will be produced by Neeraj Pandey, who is known for backing films like ‘Naam Shabana’ and ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’. It will be directed by Sashant Shah, who has earlier helmed films like ‘Dasvidaniya’ and ‘Bajatey Raho’.

Last day, the makers of ‘Ishq’ had met with Neeraj Pandey and team in Mumbai. Anuraj Manohar had directed the film and it was scripted by Ratheesh Ravi. Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko, Leona Lishoy and Ann Sheetal played the lead roles in it. Upon its theatrical release in May last year, the film won widespread critical acclaim. It also fared pretty well at the box office.

Later, during its release in Amazon Prime, several non-Malayali cinephiles got to watch the film and were highly impressed by it. ‘Ishq’ dealt with moral policing on a superficial level, but it also exposed the hypocrisy and misogyny prevalent in the society today. Since the film has an universal subject, it is expected to do well in the other languages as well.

Director Prabhu Solomon has been working on his ambitious film ‘Kaadan’ for a long time now. The film is actually a multilingual that is simultaneously shot in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil with different cast across languages. ‘Baahubali’ star Rana Daggubati plays the lead role. Vishnu Vishal is there in the Tamil and Telugu version while. In the Hindi version, which is titled as ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, has Pulkit Samrat essaying Vishnu’s role. The Telugu version is titled aa ‘Aranya’. Shriya Pilgaonkar and Zoya Hussain are also part of the cast.

Prabhu Solomon is noted for helming films like ‘Mynaa’, ‘Kumki’ and ‘Kayal’. Like ‘Komban’, this one is also an adventure story in the forests. The conflict arises when a corporate giant threatens to destroy the jungle and the eco-system of elephants. From the teaser, the film looks quite impressive.

Shantanu Moitra is the music director and cinematography is by AR Ashok Kumar. Bhuvan Srinivasan is handling the edits. The multilingual is scheduled for simultaneous release on April 2.

‘Varane Avashymund’ is enjoying a great run at the box office. The film is getting excellent feedback from the audience, which includes both the youth as well as the families. Critics have rated the film as an enjoyable feel-good entertainer. Last day, a making video got released that captures all the fun moments the team had while shooting for the film.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ is written and directed by Anoop Sathyan. The film had a positive buzz even before its release and it was majorly because of its star-studded cast comprising of Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobana in the lead roles.

The film’s story is centred around four individuals – Bibeesh (Dulquer Salmaan), Major Unnikrishnan (Suresh Gopi), a single mother named Neena (Shobhana) and her daughter Nikhitha (Kalyani Priyadarshan). They all live in the same apartment in Chennai and the film is about how they all get connected eventually.

Dulquer has produced the film along with M Star Entertainments. It is now set to hit screens outside Kerala. The film will be releasing in all major Rest of India (RoI) centres from February 14.

Last day, it was announced that the first single from ‘Master’ will be out on Valentine’s Day (February 14). The song titled ‘Oru Kutti Kathai’ is crooned by lead actor himself. It will be released online tomorrow exactly at 5 PM. In almost all his recent films, Vijay has recorded atleast one song, which invariably becomes a chartbuster. This is his second song with Anirudh Ravichander after the sensational hit ‘Selfie Pulla’ from ‘Kaththi’.

‘Master’ is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is fresh from the success of ‘Kaithi’. The makers claim it to be an unusual mass entertainer that will be totally different from Vijay’s recent films. Vijay Sethupathi is playing the antagonist and Malavika Mohan essays the female lead’s part. Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Gouri Kishan are also part of the cast.

Xavier Britto is producing the film which is scheduled for a grand release in April this year.

Trance censored U/A by revising committee; New release date announced

All the last-minute drama related to ‘Trance’ release has come to an end as the revising committee has censored the film with an U/A certificate. This comes after the censor board officials in Thiruvananthapuram suggested some cuts, which didn’t go well with Anwar Rasheed, who is both the film’s director as well as producer. The revising committee saw the film last day in Hyderabad and cleared it with no cuts. The makers have announced that the film will be hit in screens on February 20. It was initially planned as a Valentine’s Day release.

‘Trance’ has Fahadh Faasil playing the lead role of a motivational trainer named Viju Prasad. Vincent Vadakkan has scripted the film that is centred around the lead character’s mental and emotional growth at different phases of his life. His journey starts from Kanyakumari and ends in Amsterdam. Nazriya Nazim, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Soubin Shahir, Chemban Vinod Jose, Jinu Joseph, Vinayakan, Dileesh Pothan, Arjun Ashokan and Sreenath Bhasi will be seen essaying other crucial roles.
