Confirmed: Anu Sithara and Nadhiya Moidu to play the female leads in Dileep’s next

We had earlier reported about Dileep signing a new film with director Vyasan KP, who last helmed the critically acclaimed ‘Ayal Jeevichiruppund’. Along with Dileep, veteran actor Siddique will also be seen in a major role. Anu Sithara and Nadhiya Moidu have been signed as the female leads. Reportedly, both the actresses will have equally important role in the movie.

As per reports, the film is based on true events and has high scope for performance for all the four lead actors. Recently, the makers had released a casting call seeking for child actors and teenagers who have facial resemblance to Dileep, Siddique and Nadhiya Moidu. Dileep and Anu Sithara will be seen as a married couple in this yet-to-be titled movie.

Shooot for the movie is expected to commence next month. More details regarding the title, supporting cast and technical crew will be officially announced shortly. Dileep meanwhile is awaiting the release of ‘Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakkeel’, directed by B Unnikrishnan. The movie is scheduled for release on February 21.

Debutant Manu Ashokan’s ‘Uyare’ starring Parvathy, Asif Ali and Tovino Thomas is a highly anticipated film. National award winners Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on some real-life incidents. Shoot is progressing for the movie which is expected to hit screens by the first half of the year. Latest to join the already star studded cast is ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon and ‘Aanandam’ fame Anarkali Marikar.

‘Uyare’ has Parvathy playing Pallavi, an air hostess, who becomes an acid attack victim. The actress will be seen in a completely new look in the movie. A special prosthetics team are working on her look. Prior to the shoot, Parvathy had also visited the Sheroes cafe in Agra to learn more about the lives of acid attack victims. The cafe is run by a group of women who survived acid attacks.

‘Uyare’s supporting cast includes Renji Panicker, Prem Prakash, Bhagath Manuel, Siddique and Prathap Pothen. Cinematographer Mukesh Muraleedharan, editor Mahesh Narayanan and music director Gopi Sunder handle the technical side. S Cube Films, a newly launched production house, is funding the movie.

Arjun Reddy remake: Gautham Menon to helm the new version of Varma?

‘Varma’, the Tamil remake of ‘Arjun Reddy’, directed by Bala was originally supposed to hit screens this Thursday on Valentine’s Day. Vikram’s son Dhruv and debutante Megha Chowdhury were the leads in the film. However, days before release, E4 Entertainment, the production house backing the film, made a shocking announcement that they are unhappy with Bala’s version and are scrapping the entire film. With a press release, they also informed that they will be reshooting the whole film with Dhruv as the lead but with a new director and supporting cast.

Ever since the announcement about a new version came, there have been speculations about who will be helming the film. Latest buzz is that the makers are trying to rope in ace filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon. There is still no clarity on whether the director has agreed to take up the project. It is said that talks are still in the early stages. Meanwhile, there are also unconfirmed reports about Jhanvi Kapoor being signed as the new female lead. We will have to wait for an official word from the makers.

‘Arjun Reddy’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga had Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles. It is the story of an impulsive medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. He becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the plot is about how he redeems himself. The movie emerged as a sensational success, particularly in the South. Apart from the Tamil remake, the movie is also being remade in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the leads.

Mammootty starrer ‘Peranbu’ continues to get excellent response from the audience, particularly in Kerala. The movie has found widespread critical appreciation for director Ram’s poignant storytelling style and the superlative performances of its two lead actors – Mammootty and Sadhana.

Recently, the movie’s success celebration was held in the sets of Mammootty’s ongoing film, ‘Madura Raja’. ‘Peranbu’ producer PL Thenappan joined in the celebrations which included a cake cutting. ‘Madura Raja’ director Vysakh shared the photos in his official social media handle.

‘Peranbu’ tells the story of an affectionate father and his spastic teenage daughter. It is after a long gap that Mammootty has done a movie that does true justice to his true potential. Fans and common audience, including families, are thronging theatres to watch the movie.

Along with Mammootty and Sadhana, ‘Peranbu’ also stars Anjali and Anjali Ameer in key roles. Priror to its theatrical release, movie was screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) and later at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival. Its Indian premier was held at International Film Festival of India, Goa. The movie is also set to hit screens in Japan on February 11.

Positive reviews galore for Prithviraj’s 9

Prithviraj’s latest release 9 continues to get good response from the Malayali audience. Hitting screens last Thursday, the movie opened to largely positive reviews. Most critics have praised the makers for their attempt in trying something unique in Malayalam. To be fair, the attempt has paid off. 9 directed by Jenuse Mohammed is a mix genre attempt that has science fiction, horror and psychological thriller elements. It is the first of its kind film in Malayalam with an universally appealing storyline and superior technical quality.

If the early response is anything to go by, 9 has found acceptance among the serious cinephiles. Bookings for the weekend show good occupancy in multiplexes. Though the movie has several layers and concepts, at the core of all that is an emotional father-son bonding. The story unfolds in the backdrop of a massive global event that lasts nine days. What happens over this course of period forms the plot.

Master Alok, Prakash Raj, Mamta Mohandas, Wamiqa Gabbi, Tony Luke, Rahul Madhav and Adil Ibrahim are also part of the cast along with Prithviraj. The movie also marks the maiden venture of his banner, Prithviraj Productions. Sony Pictures International Productions are also making an entry to Malayalam industry with this movie.

The last time he did something like this was in Vennilla Kabbadi Kuzhu, in which he did a cameo appearance as a kabbadi player.

Vijay Sethupathi is a very spontaneous actor who is not known for putting extra efforts to play a particular character. Besides that hr has also committed for films with directors Vijay Chander, SP Jananathan, Venkata Krishna Roganth and Delhiprasad Deenadayal.

Syam Pushkaran is one of those writers who triggered a new wave in Malayalam cinema. His realistic style of writing and ability to dwell deep into the lives of commoners makes him a writer like no other in the industry currently. ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’, the first film he wrote independently, bagged him a National award. He followed that up with ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, another National award winning film in which co-wrote the dialogues and was also the creative director. He then teamed up with his frequent collaborator Dileesh Nair for a love story, ‘Mayaanadhi’, which was also well received. ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, his latest film, has also opened to extremely positive reviews.

Cinephiles are already waiting to hear about Syam’s next. In a recent interview, he revealed that he would be teaming up with director Dileesh Pothan shortly. Script works are progressing and it’s still early days to reveal about the details. Expectations will be huge since the duo’s earlier films together were widely acclaimed.

Syam and Dileesh Pothan share a great rapport and that reflects on their works as well. They had also recently started a production house named ‘Working Class Hero’. Their maiden venture was ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, which they produced jointly with Fahadh Faasil’s banner.

The movie is being directed by Santhosh Nair of ‘Money Ratnam’ fame. Shoot has already commenced. As per the makers, ‘Rangeela’ is a fun filled road movie. Salim Kumar is playing a major role in the movie. The actor recently shared a photo taken with Sunny from the movie’s sets.

The story of ‘Rangeela’ is reportedly set around a group of people’s journey from Goa to Hampi. Although Sunny’s character will be present throughout, she won’t be having any Malayalam dialogues. She plays the role of a south Indian diva in the movie. She will also be performing a special dance number in the movie. Aju Varghese and Hareesh Kanaran will also be seen in key roles.

The story of ‘Rangeela’ is written by Jayalal Menon, who is also the producer. His own banner Backwater Studio is producing the movie jointly with Fairytale Productions. It will be distributed by One World Entertainments. The makers have planned to shoot the movie extensively in various locations in Goa, Kochi, Hampi and Chikmagalur.

Vikram’s mega budget film Mahavir Karna starts rolling

‘Mahavir Karna’, the epic film starring Vikram has gone on floors. Director RS Vimal, who shot to fame with the Malayalam movie, ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ is helming this ambitious film. Based on the mythological figure Karnan, ghe movie has been planned as a trlingual in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil, and will later be dubbed to other languages.

RS Vimal has scripted ‘Mahavir Karna’ based on the Indian epic Mahabharatha. The movie will be a retelling of Mahabharatha from Karnan’s point of view. Since Vikram’s lead character Karna is a warrior, is developing a ripped physique besides training in horse riding and him, the movie will also have some other top stars from Indian cinema and Hollywood.

The makers have also signed some leading technicians. If reports are to be believed, a global launch will be held shortly where the cast and crew will be officially announced. A New York based production house United Film Kingdom is investing over Rs 300 crores for this film.
