Handful of promising films coming up for Manju Warrier

Manju Warrier is arguably the most wanted female actor in Malayalam film industry. Ever since she made her comeback in 2014, the actress has been busy doing back to back projects. This year, the story is no different as has her bag full with several exciting films coming up. Besides doing some high profile projects in Malayalam, Manju is also set to make her debut in Tamil with Vetrimaaran’s ‘Asuran’, also staring Dhanush.

Manju Warrier’s next release in Malayalam will be ‘Lucifer’. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Prithviraj has superstar Mohanlal in the lead. Manju is reportedly playing Mohanlal’s wife in the movie. Details about her character have not yet been officially revealed. The movie is scheduled for release by the end of March.

Manju is also playing the female lead in Santhosh Sivan’s comeback film as a director. Titled as ‘Jack n Jill’, the movie has her starring alongside Kalidas Jayaram, Basil Jospeh and Aju Varghese. Another film that Manju will be part of is ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. The movie directed by Priyadarshan has a huge star cast comprising of actors from across various languages. Manju is playing one of the female leads in the movie alongside Kalyani Priyadarshan and Keerthy Suresh.

If reports are to be believed, Manju is also in talks with director Antony Sony for a new film. The director had made his debut in 2017 with C/O Saira Banu, which also had Manju in the lead.

Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu releasing tomorrow amidst high expectations

Pranav Mohanlal starrer ‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ is one of the most hyped movies of the first quarter of the year. Amidst high expectations, the movie is hitting screens tomorrow (January 26). Arun Gopy is directing the movie, which is touted to be a breezy love story with a tinge of action and adventure. Both Pranav and Arun Gopy started their career successfully with ‘Aadhi’ and ‘Ramaleela’; so much is expected from the combo.

‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ has Pranav and debutante Zaya David playing the lead roles. Pranav plays a surfing instructor in the movie and fans are eagerly waiting for those portions. Also the stunts choreographed by Peter Hein is a major highlight of the movie. The trailer had glimpses of the same.

Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, Innocent, Abhirav, G Suresh Kumar, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bijukuttan, Tini Tom and Kannada actor Harish Raj are part of the supporting cast. Gokul Suresh will also be appearing in a cameo role. It’s core technical crew comprises of cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, music director Gopi Sunder Sunder and editor Vivek Harshan.

Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie which is all set for a wide release tomorrow. The movie is also having a simultaneous UAE release.

Unni Mukundan all set to join the sets of Maamaankam

Shoot for Mammootty’s period flick ‘Maamaankam’ has been put on hold after completing a couple of schedules. Quite a few controversies had struck the movie, but leaving all that behind the team is now set to resume shoot. Unni Mukundan, who was recently cast in the movie, is all set to start shooting for his portions. Since it is a period film with a story about warriors, it is only ideal that Unni is brought on board as he is among the very few actors in Malayalam with a strong physique. The actor replaced Druvan, who was removed due to some issues with the production team.

‘Maamaankam’ is directed by Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The movie is based on the medieval fair, Maamaankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty will be seen as a ferocious ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.

‘Maamaankam’ has huge star cast with several non-Malayali actors in it. Bollywood actress Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and former Miss Tamil Nadu Abhirami V Iyer have reportedly been signed as the female leads. Neeraj Madhav, Baburaj, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already confirmed in the supporting cast.

The movie’s technical crew comprises of renowned cinematographer Ganesh Rajavelu, action choreographer Kaecha Khamphakdee, editor Sreekar Prasad, music director M Jayachandran and VFX supervisor Kamala Kannan. M Padmakumar is also part of the team as an associate director. Vennu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is producing the movie.

Zakariya’s ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ is one of the best films to come out of Malayalam cinema in recent years. Sunny Leone’s debut Malayalam film Rangeela to start rolling next month

As reported by us earlier, Sunny Leone is making her Malayalam debut with a film titled ‘Rangeela’. The movie is to be directed by Santhosh Nair of ‘Money Ratnam’ fame. Shoot for the movie is set to commence by the beginning of next month. The actress herself revealed this through a social media post which reads,

Hey everyone I’m going to make my debut in a Malayalam full length feature film “Rangeela” all set for shooting the first of February ! The film is directed by Santosh Nair and produced by Jayalal Menon under the banner Backwater studios

As per the makers, ‘Rangeela’ is a fun road movie set around a group of people’s journey from Goa to Hampi. Sunny Leone plays the role of a south Indian diva in the film. She will be doing a special dance number in the film. Although Sunny will be present throughout the film, she won’t be having any Malayalam dialogues. Apart from her, the movie also has Aju Varghese, Hareesh Kanaran and Salim Kumar as part of the cast.

‘Rangeela’ story is written by Jayalal Menon, who is also the producer. His Backwater Studio is producing the movie jointly with Fairytale Productions. It will be distributed by One World Entertainments. The makers are planning to shoot in various locations in Kochi, Goa, Hampi and Chikmagalur.

Meanwhile, Sunny will also be performing a special dance number with Mammootty in the Vysakh directorial ‘Madura Raja’. The actress reached Kochi earlier this week for the shoot.

Nimisha Sajayan to pair with Nivin Pauly in Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham

We were among the first to report about Nivin Pauly and Rajeev Ravi teaming up for a movie titled ‘Thuramukham’. As the title suggests, the movie is centred around a harbour and the coastal people. We hear that it is a story set in the Cochin harbour in the early 1950s. Nivin Pauly will be playing a challenging role in the film, which is based on real life events.

Latest reports suggest that Nimisha Sajayan has been signed as the female lead. The young actress has proved her potential with powerful performances in films like ‘Thondimuthalum Driksaskhiyum’, ‘Eeda’ and ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’. Her role in ‘Thuramukham’ is also expected to be a performance oriented one.

Rajeev Ravi, the National award winning cinematographer-turned-filmmaker has previously helmed ‘Annayum Rasoolum’, ‘Njan Steve Lopez’ and ‘Kammattipadam’. All his three films had discussed in depth the lives of underprivileged community and their problems. ‘Thuramukham’, on similar lines, is said to be based on the historic protests against the inhuman ‘chappa’ system, wherein copper coins were thrown to waiting workers in a primitive ‘work guarantee’ scheme, which had resulted in police firing and martyrdom of three labourers in Mattancherry.

KM Chidambaran had earlier written a play named ‘Thuramukham’. Rajeev Ravi’s movie is supposedly inspired from this play. The playwright’s son, Gopan Chidambaram, a scenarist who has previously co-written ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, is reportedly scripting Rajeev Ravi’s film. Shoot is expected to commence by the first quarter of the year.

After a successful first two week of theatrical run in Kerala, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ (VSP) is now set to be released in GCC centres. The makers have released the GCC theatre list through the movie’s official social media handle. The movie is releasing in major centres in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait. Inspired by the success in Kerala, the makers will be a hopeful of a good run in the overseas market as well.

Releasing on January 11, the movie opened to largely positive reviews from all corners. Critics and common audience alike have rated the movie as a clean feel-good entertainer. Families comprise the large section of the audience. The movie is most likely to have a long run with the help of family audience.

‘Baahubali’ star Prabhas is currently working on ‘Saaho’ which is scheduled for an August 15 release this year. The movie directed by Sujeeth is a high octane action thriller made on an international scale. The movie is being made as a multilingual with popular actors from industries across the country as part of the cast. Bollywood diva Shraddha Kapoor is playing the female lead. Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal and Tinnu Anand are playing prominent roles in the movie.

Veteran Malayali actor Lal had recently shared a photo taken from the movie’s sets in his social media handle. In the photo, he is seen enjoying a lighter moment with Prabhas, Arun Vijay and Jackie Shroff. Lal is playing a positive character in the film and majority of his scenes are with Prabhas. Earlier in an interview, Lal had shared about how big a learning experience it was to work in a film like Saaho where budget is not a constraint, unlike the case in Malayalam cinema. Lal had shot for his portions in Hyderabad, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Europe.

If reports are to be believed, a whopping Rs 300 crore is being invested on ‘Saaho’, of which Rs 90 crore is spent on the action sequences alone. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly funding this movie under the banner of UV Creations.

Prithviraj is currently awaiting the release of 9, a much hyped film directed by Jenuse Mohamed. From the promos itself it is evident that it is something of a kind that is very rarely seen in Malayalam cinema. While there are several speculations about the movie’s exact genre, lead actor Prithviraj believes that it has elements of horror, psychological thriller and science fiction. According to him, it is hard to brand the label the movie to one particular genre. It has several layers and concepts but at the core of which is an emotional father-son bonding.

9 is basically a turbulent relationship of a father and son. The story unfold in the backdrop of a massive global event that last nine days. Several new people enter their life during this time. What happens over this course of period forms the plot. Prithviraj is playing the role of Albert Lewis and child actor Alok plays his son, Adam. The cast also includes Prakash Raj, Mamta Mohandas, Wamiqa Gabbi, Tony Luke, Rahul Madhav and Adil Ibrahim.

9 is special for Prithviraj for many reasons. He is venturing to production with this movie. His newly launched banner Prithviraj Productions is producing the movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions. The makers have promised that the movie will be a new experience for the Malayali audience when watched in theatres.

All eyes now on February 7 for the release.

It’s a wrap for Fahadh Faasil-Sai Pallavi film

We had earlier reported about Fahadh Faasil and Sai Pallavi teaming up for a romantic thriller. Debutant Vivek is directing the movie which is said to be a romantic thriller. The team had been shooting for the movie in Ootty for the last few weeks. All this while, the makers had kept utmost secrecy about the proceedings revealing very little details. The latest we hear is that the entire shoot has been wrapped up.

This yet-to-be titled movie is scripted by National award winner PF Mathews, who last penned the widely acclaimed ‘Ee Maa Yau’. Along with Fahadh and Sai Pallavi, the movie also has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of some seasoned actors like Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni, Shanthi Krishna, Renji Panicker, Sudev Nair, Surabhi Lakshmi and Lena.

An official announcement with details regarding the title and technical crew are expected to be made by the makers very shortly.
