Gokul Suresh and Dhyan Sreenivasan team up for ‘Sayahna Varthakal’

Star kids, Gokul Suresh and Dhyan Sreenivasan are teaming up for the first time for a new movie titled ‘Sayahna Varthakal’. Arun Chandu, a former associate of Vineeth Sreenivasan, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Shoot for Sayahna Varthakal commenced last week with a customary pooja and switch on ceremony.

Newcomer Sachin has scripted this movie which is touted to be a fun entertainer. According to trustworthy reports, the story is about a movie actor’s life in a government affiliated organisation. Debutante Sharanya Sharma has been signed as the female lead. Aju Varghese and Vinay Govindhan of ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame are also part of the movie’s cast.

Sayanha Varthakal has a rookie technical crew. Prasanth is handling the music department and cinematography is done by Rahul Balachandran. The movie is being produced under the banner of D 14 Entertainments. Gokul Suresh and Dhyan have not acted together earlier, so it will be very interesting to see their on-screen chemistry.

Gokul has been very choosy with his movies so far. After making an impressive debut with Mudhugauv in 2016, he has done only two movies after that – Masterpiece and Ira. He is also part of Madhav Ramdasan’s upcoming movie Ilayaraja which has Guiness Pakru in the lead. Dhyan, on the other hand, is all set to wear the director’s hat. His directorial debut, Love Action Drama, with Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara is expected to go on floors by August.

Super Deluxe has some of the best actors I’ve seen in the recent past: Fahadh Faasil

Fahadh Faasil, who has been on red-hot form of late, has some exciting films coming up. One of the most awaited among them is Super Deluxe, his second in Tamil after last year’s Velaikaaran. The movie is directed by National award winner Thiagarajan Kumararaja. He is making a comeback eight years after he made his debut with the cult-hit Aaranya Kaandam.

Super Deluxe is an anthology film with an ensemble star cast. Along with Fahadh, actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Mysskin and Ramya Krishnan are also playing major roles in the movie. In a recent interview to TOI, Fahadh was all praise for director Thiagaraja Kumararaja and his co-stars in Super Deluxe.

The actor is quoted saying, “It’s a very interesting film. The movie has some of the best actors I have seen in the recent past putting on their best performances. More than anything it was an absolute treat working the filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja. I crave to work with him again knowing how difficult and impossible he is.”

Super Deluxe had been on the floors for over an year before wrapping up earlier this month. The makers have been tight-lipped about the project. Vijay Sethupathi is playing the role of a transgender in one of the segments while another features actress Ramya Krishnan as the central character. Fahadh Faasil and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are playing the protagonists in another segment. Fahadh is said to be playing an urban character and he has not undergone any major makeover for the film. He is also expected to dub for his portions in Tamil.

Expectations are high for Super Deluxe since it has some of the finest talents of South Indian cinema working in it. Directors Mysskin and Nalan Kumarasamy are penning the movie’s dialogues. PS Vinod, noted for his work in several Bollywood movies, is the DOP and Yuvan Shankar Raja handles the music department. The movie is expected to hit screens sometime by the end of this year itself.

Dulquer Salmaan’s next Malayalam movie titled Oru Yamandan Premakadha?

We had recently reported about Dulquer Salmaan making a comeback to Malayalam cienma after a long stint in other industries like Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. As per reports, Dulquer will start shooting for his new Malayalam movie from the first week of July. Debutant BC Noufal will be directing the movie and the superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are scripting it. Social medias are abuzz that this upcoming movie has been titled as ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’. However, the makers are yet to confirm it officially.

Just like Vishnu Unnikrishnan-Bibin George duo’s previous films, Amar Akbar Anthony and Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan, this upcoming one with Dulquer Salmaan is also said to be a mass comedy entertainer. The story is reportedly set in the familiar terrain of Fort Kochi and Mattanchery and the audience can expect to see an unseen fun side of Dulquer in this movie.

The movie’s director BC Noufal is well known in the small screen circuit. He has helmed many popular shows like Deal or No Deal. Award winning filmmaker Salim Ahmed and Bibin George were former assistants of Noufal. It will be interesting to see how the first-time director utilizes such a big star like Dulquer Salmaan.

Anto Joseph will be producing the movie under his banner Anto Joseph Film Company. The makers had initially planned to start shooting in February but it had to be pushed due to Dulquer’s packed schedule. An official announcement with the title and other details regarding the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon.

Odiyan, one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year, is currently in the post-production phase. Since the expectations are huge, the makers are investing a lot of time and money to get the best possible output. Recently, music director Sam CS got to watch the movie as part of composing the background score. Thoroughly impressed by the movie, Sam uploaded a video in his official YouTube channel expressing his delight in working in such a prestigious project.

Sam, who shot to fame with his splendid work in Vikram Vedha, is making his debut in Malayalam by composing the score for Odiyan. After watching the movie recently, Sam was all praise of director Shrikumar Menon and his team. According to him, Odiyan will take Malayalam cinema to the next level. Since the Malayalam industry is not known for investing in big budget films, Sam was spellbound by the high production values and the scale at which Odiyan was made.

Odiyan has a theme that has rarely been experimented in Indian cinema. It is a mass-fantasy entertainer with a mix of action, romance and magical realism. National award winner Harikrishnan has scripted this movie based on the life of odiyans. It is primarily about ‘odividya’, a kind of black magic. People who practice it are called ‘odiyans’. Odiyans lived in mediveal Kerala and this movie is set in three different timelines from pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000.

Sam CS signed Odiyan as he was intrigued by the subject and the fact that he could make his Malayalam debut with such a huge project. For the background score, he has used many ancient ethnic Kerala musical instruments including a 6-feet-long bamboo instrument to compose a single piece. Interestingly, there was only woman who could play it and she was brought in to set tunes for a particular score. The ‘Odi.. Odi.. Odiyan’ score used in the promos is already a rage among the fans.

Odiyan is expected to hit screens for the Pooja holidays in October. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Karwaan: Here’s the first look of Dulquer Salmaan’s debut Hindi movie

As we had reported earlier, Dulquer Salmaan is making his Bollywood entry this year with ‘Karwaan’, in which he co-stars with Irrfan Khan and internet sensation Mithila Palkar. Noted actor/theatre personality Akarsh Khurana is directing this movie. The first look poster of Karwaan was unveiled today in social medias. All three lead actors feature in the poster which gives the feel of a road-fun entertainer. The movie’s trailer will be released officially tomorrow (June 27).

Karwaan, according to the makers, is touted to be a light hearted entertainer which traces the story of three friends who come from different walks of life. It is a slice of life kind movie with prominence to realistic humour. Bejoy Nambiar, who last directed the Tamil-Malayalam bilingual, Solo, starring Dulquer, has penned the story of Karwaan.

In Karwaan, the characters of Irrfan Khan, Mithila Palkar and Dulquer are from different walks of life who come together at one juncture of their lives. Reportedly, Dulquer plays a Bangalore based guy in the movie. His character is a sweet yet serious kind of person. Interestingly, there is no love track for his character in the movie.

Director Akarsh Khurana, who has previously scripted movies like Humshakals and Krrish 3, has co-written Karwaan’s screenplay with Adhir Bhatt. Hussain Dalal, the dialogue writer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and 2 States, has written the dialogues for this movie as well. Ronnie Screwvala is funding Karwaan under the banner of RSVP Films in association with Ishka Films. The movie is all set to hit screens on August 3.

Gautham Menon’s pet project Dhruva Natchathiram is nearing completion with only a few more days of shoot left. The movie starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead is being made on a lavish scale as an international spy-thriller. It is well known that the director had initially planned to make Dhruva Natchathiram with Suriya before they both parted ways owing to creative differences. But not many know that Gautham Menon also had plans to make the movie with superstar Rajinikanth. The director himself revealed this in a recent interview.

Apparently, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu introduced Menon to Rajinikanth and narrated the script to him. Impressed by the subject, the star asked on the number of shoot days, budget and technicians required for the project. He also advised Menon not to tell the news to anyone other than his family members. But by evening, producer Thanu informed Menon that someone had changed Rajinikanth’s mind and told a lot of bad things about me. Eventually, the offer reached Ranjith who did Kabali with Rajinikanth under Thanu’s banner V Creations.

It would have been really interesting if Rajinikanth had done such an ambitious spy-thriller like Dhruva Natchathiram. Gautham Menon is still hopeful of making a movie with the superstar some day. Both the director and actor are currently busy with other commitments. Gautham Menon has Dhruva Natchathiram and Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta to finish. Rajinikanth, on the other hand, is busy shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s movie, which is yet to be titled.

We are six months into 2018 and Mollywood has already witnessed the release of many quality films. But Prithviraj, one of the industry’s leading actors, has not had a release this year so far. The actor is now trying to make up for his absence as three of his films – My Story, Koode and Ranam are getting ready for release. While Ranam is still caught in some issues, My Story and Koode are all set to storm screens.

Koode has Prithviraj playing the lead role along with Nazriya and Parvathy. The movie touted to be a heartwarming tale of relationships marks the comeback of director Anjali Menon after a four year long gap. The movie was initially slated to hit scenes on July 6 but as per latest reports, Koode’s release has been postponed to make way for My Story.

My Story will now release on July 6 and Koode will be reaching the audience on July 14. That makes it two back to back releases for Prithviraj in a week’s gap. The makers of koode are yet to confirm the news but we hear that the theatre charting are already being redrafted.

My Story is a romantic flick directed by Roshni Dinaker. The ‘Ennu Ninte Moidee’ pair of Prithviraj and Parvathy play the lead roles in the movie. My Story, scripted by actor-writer Shankar Ramakrishnan, was shot in multiple schedules in Portugal and other European countries. According to the makers, it is a feel good love story set in two timelines – 1995 and today. Roshni Dinaker and OV Dinaker are jointly producing My Story under the banner of Roshni Dinaker Productions.

So a romantic flick has been replaced by a feel good entertainer. Let’s see which film of Prithviraj wins the title.

Dulquer Salmaan to turn a producer with ‘Sukumara Kurup’

For nearly an year now, Dulquer Salmaan has been busy with a handful of movies in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. The actor is now set to make his much awaited comeback to Malayalam industry. He has already committed for a couple of projects, and one among them is Sukumara Kurup, a movie based on the real life of Kerala state’s most wanted criminal.

Srinath Rajendran, noted for his films like Second Show and Koothara, will be directing this movie. The project was first announced last June and ever since then Malayali audience have been waiting for updates from the makers. The latest we get to hear is that Dulquer Salmaan is planning to turn a producer with this movie. They are planning to start shooting by the this year end, once Dulquer is free from his other commitments.

Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar are scripting the movie. The team have been doing research works for a long time. When the project was first announced, there were talks about how the makers will showcase the life of a notorious criminal like Sukumara Kurup on screen. Dulquer, then, had made it clear that they will not be glorifying him or make him seem as a good person.

Sukumara Kurup is an accused in the murder of Chacko in the year 1984. Chacko was strangled to death and his body was burnt inside a car. Sukumara Kurup allegedly committed the crime to fake his own death and claim an insurance amount of Rs 8 lakhs by killing Chacko who bore a resemblance with him. He is supposed to have fled abroad after the incident and has been absconding for over thirty years now. The Chacko murder case is one of the long standing cases in the judicial history of Kerala.

As we all know, a slew of period flicks are getting ready in Malayalam cinema. Among them, Kayamkulam Kochunni is one of the most awaited this year. The movie directed by Roshan Andrews stars Nivin Pauly as Kayamkulam Kochunni while superstar Mohanlal plays an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. The movie went on floors in October last year and shoot happened in multiple schedules in Mangalore, Palakkad, Goa and Sri Lanka. They shot for over six months before wrapping up earlier this month.

While the makers had planned to release the movie this coming August, the latest we hear is that it might get pushed to October. Extensive post-production works is said to be the reason behind the postponing. Since it is a period flick set in the pre-independence era, the movie requires a lot of VFX works to make it look authentic. Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran, has been signed for Kayamkulam Kochunni as well.

The National award winning duo of Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on the life of legendary highwayman Kochunni, who was active in 19th century in the Travancore region. Mohanlal appears in a crucial juncture in the movie as Ithikkara Pakki, who is regarded as the first Robin Hood of Kerala.

Sunny Wayne, Priya Anand, Babu Antony, Aneesh G Menon, Amit Chakalakkal and Kannada actress Ashwini are playing supporting roles in the movie. Its technical team boasts of some big wigs like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan and renowned sound designer PM Satheesh. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie.

Mohanlal has got some exciting films coming up this year. The suspense-thriller Neerali will be his next to hit screens followed by Drama and Kayamkulam Kochunni, in which he plays an extended cameo. Drama’s shoot was wrapped up only recently in UK. Veteran Ranjith is directing this movie, which marks his reunion with Mohanlal after a three year long gap.

Drama is an eagerly awaited movie as Mohanlal-Ranjith duo have delivered many memorable films in the past. In a recent interview, Mohanlal sounded very hopeful about the movie. According to him, Drama is a kind of movie that has not been attempted in Malayalam cinema. Unlike the actor-director duo’s earlier films, Drama will not have any superstar elements such as massive action scenes or dialogues. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with equal dose of humour, sentiments and family drama.

Drama was a hastily planned project as Ranjith’s initial plan was to direct a romantic flick titled Bilathikadha. Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj and Anu Sithara were supposed to play lead roles in the movie with an extended cameo by Mohanlal. However, due to some unknown reasons, the project got dropped and Ranjith worked on a new script with Mohanlal as the lead. Eventually, the actor managed to squeeze in dates from his busy schedule.

Drama has a big supporting cast which includes actors like Asha Sarath, Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Subi Suresh, Niranj, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom, Baiju and Mythili among others. Veteran Azhagappan is the cinematographer. MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing the movie under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.
