Vijay Superum Pournamiyum: Asif Ali’s next with Jis Joy starts rolling

As informed by us earlier, the pooja and switch on ceremony of Asif Ali’s upcoming movie Vijay Superum Pournamiyum was held today (June 30) in 3 Dots Studio, Ernakulam. Jis Joy is directing this movie which has Aishwarya Lekshmi as the female lead. Asif, Jis Joy, Aishwarya, Balu Varghese, Darshana Rajendran and Stephy Xaviour were among those present for the pooja.

Vijay Superum Pournamiyum is touted to be a romantic entertainer. The makers had initially signed Mamta Mohandas to play the female lead but she opted out due to some unknown reason. Aishwarya Lekshmi, who recently won the Filmfare award for best debutant for her performance in Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela, is hugely popular among the youth audience post Mayaanadhi. Her remarkable performance in the movie won her a lot of appreciation.

Asif Ali and Aishwarya are teaming up for the first time, so it will be interesting to see how their on-screen chemistry works. Director Jis Joy’s previous two films – Bicycle Thieves and Sunday Holiday – also had Asif in the lead. While Bicycle Thieves was an average grosser, Sunday Holiday emerged as a superhit success. It was one of the biggest hits in Mollywood last year enjoying a theatrical run of over 100 days.

Dancer-turned-actress Asha Sarath has been bagging a lot of solid roles lately. She last played a tough CBI officer in Anushka Shetty’s Tamil-Telugu bilingual Bhaagamathie. In Jayaraj’s National award winning Bhayankam, she plays the role of Gowri Kunjamma, a woman from the 1930s. She is also part of director Ranjith’s upcoming movie Drama.

Asha Sarath is playing the role of Mohanlal’s wife in Drama. Interestingly, this is their third outing as a pair after playing a couple in Karmayodha and 1971: Beyond Borders. Apart from the aforementioned films, they have also acted together in Drishyam and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. They both share a great rapport and that has reflected on their performances on-screen.

Drama is a movie entirely set in the UK. It is about the lives of Malayalis living abroad. Asha Sarath’s character is named Rekha and since it is a husband-wife story, she has got a meaty role to perform. From the recently released teaser, the movie promises to bring back the fun side of Mohanlal. The actor himself has pinned high hopes on the movie.

According to him, Drama is a kind of movie that has not been attempted in Malayalam cinema. Unlike his earlier films with Ranjith, Drama will not have any superstar elements such as massive action scenes or dialogues. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Niranj, Mythili, Shalin Zoya and Tini Tom and Baiju are also part of the cast. Drama is expected to hit screens in September.

Tamil star Suriya is busy as ever has a handful of films in his kitty. He recently finished the final schedule of Selvaraghavan’s NGK and is has already shooting for his upcoming movie with director KV Anand. Apart from that, Suriya has also committed for projects with Sudha Kongara and Hari. As per latest reports, his movie with Sudha is getting ready to start rolling from August.

Sudha Kongara, a former associate of the ace Mani Ratnam, shot to fame with her movie Irudhi Suttru, which was released in 2016. The movie starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh was a bilingual made in Tamil and Hindi (Saala Khadoos). Sudha also remade the movie in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh reprising Madhavan’s role. All three versions were critically and commercially successful.

Sudha’s upcoming movie with Suriya is said to be an ambitious one. She has been working one the project for over a year now. Rumour mills suggest that it is shaping up as a period flick on the lines of Aayirathil Oruvan, but the makers are yet to reveal any such detail. Tentatively titled Suriya 38, the movie will have music by GV Prakash. More details regarding its genre and other cast and crew members are expected to be announced very soon. The actor’s own banner 2D Entertainment is funding this movie.

Suriya is currently in London shooting for his KV Anand film. The movie also has Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in a major role along with Suriya. Boman Irani, Allu Sirish, Sayyessha and Samuthirakani are also part of the cast. Suriya is expected to wrap up the ongoing film’s first schedule before joining the sets of Sudha Kongara’s movie.

Mohanlal’s Lucifer is gearing up to go on floors. Actor Prithviraj is making his directorial debut with this movie. Antony Perumbavoor is producing it under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The makers have informed that shoot will be commencing on July 16. Interestingly, the whole cast of Mohanlal’s upcoming biggie Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham will be officially revealed on the same day.

Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham directed by Priyadarshan is an epic film planned on a huge scale. It is being planned to be made on a whopping budget of over Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this movie. Apart from leading actors from various Indian industries, the movie will also have Arabic and Chinese actors as part of its cast. As of now, only Mohanlal, veteran Madhu, Tamil actor Prabhu and Pranav Mohanlal are confirmed in the cast.

Fans and Malayali movie lovers are now eagerly looking forward to July 16 to get cast updates about both Lucifer and Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham. Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Murali Gopy, Manju Warrier and ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan are rumored to be part of Lucifer, but the makers are yet to give an official word.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh wishes luck for Prithviraj’s My Story

Prithviraj’s long delayed romantic flick My Story is finally getting released this coming Friday (July 6). The movie has him with paired with Parvathy for the third time after Ennu Ninte Moideen and the yet-to-be released Koode. Roshni Dinaker, a costume designer who has worked in several Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu films, is making her directorial debut with My Story.

Wishing luck for Roshni and her team of My Story, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh posted a video in social medias. Incidentally, Ranveer is also celebrating his birthday on July 6. Prithviraj, who shared Ranveer’s video, wrote on his Facebook page,

My Story was supposed to hit screens much earlier but postponed multiple times due to some production reasons. Actor-writer Shankar Ramakrishnan has scripted this movie which reportedly is an intense love story set in two timelines – 1995 and today. The movie was shot in multiple schedules in Portugal and other European countries.

My Story has Hollywood actor Roger Narayan playing the baddie. The supporting cast also includes Manoj K Jayan, Ganesh Venkatraman, Maniyanpilla Raju, Nandu and Sanju Sivaram among others. Its technical crew includes cinematographer Dudley, editor Priyank Prem Kumar and music director Shaan Rahman.

Roshni Dinaker and OV Dinaker are jointly producing My Story under the banner of Roshni Dinaker Productions.

It has been nearly eight months since a Mohanlal film has hit screens. His last outing Villain was released in October last year. Ending the long drought, the superstar is all set to make a strong comeback. He has got some exciting films coming up this year. Neerali, Kayamkulam Kochunni, Drama and Odiyan are his four films getting ready for release.

Neerali will be Mohanlal’s next to hit screens. The movie directed by Ajoy Varma is a survival thriller. Saju Thomas has scripted this movie which has Mohanlal playing the role of a gemologist. Nadiya Moidu, in her comeback movie to Malayalam, has been paired with Mohanlal after a three decade long gap. Dileesh Pothan, Nasser, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Parvathy Nair are also part of the cast. Neerali was initially scheduled for an Eid release on June 14 but got postponed to July 12 due to the Nipah outbreak. Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment is co-producing the movie jointly with John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikadan.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year. The movie directed by Roshan Andrews stars Nivin Pauly as Kayamkulam Kochunni while Mohanlal plays an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. Post-production works are currently progressing in full swing and the makers are planning to release the movie in August. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on the life of legendary highwayman Kochunni. Mohanlal appears in a crucial juncture in the movie as Ithikkara Pakki. The combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin will be the movie’s major highlight. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie.

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is one movie that the whole Malayali cine lovers are eagerly waiting for. The movie starring Mohanlal is based on the lives of odiyans, whose stories are popular in Kerala’s folklore. It is a mass entertainer with elements of fantasy and magical realism. The movie is slated for release in October but the makers have already started the promotions. Odiyan hoardings have already come up in several parts of the state. Aashirvad Cinemas will be releasing the movie in Kerala through Max Lab release. Our sources within the industry suggest that the movie will have a grand release in over 400 screens in Kerala alone. Trade experts believe that Odiyan has a better pre-release hype than Pulimurugan. If the movie manages to live up to the expectations, it is certain to break all the existing box office records in Malayalam cinema.

We had earlier reported about Asif Ali and Jis Joy teaming up once again after the superhit success of Sunday Holiday. Their upcoming movie titled as Vijay Superum Pournamiyum is said to be a romantic entertainer. Mamta Mohandas was initially signed to play the female lead but the latest we hear is that she has been replaced by Aishwarya Lekshmi.

Aishwarya herself confirmed this in a recent interview. The actress recently won the Filmfare award for best debutant for her performance in Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela. But it was her remarkable performance in Mayaanadhi that made her popular among the audience. She is also paired with Fahadh Faasil in the upcoming Amal Neerad directorial Varathan.

Vijay Superum Pournami is Asif Ali’s third outing with director Jis Joy after Bicycle Thieves and Sunday Holiday. While Bicycle Thieves was an average grosser, Sunday Holiday, released last year, was a superhit success. It was one of the biggest hits in Mollywood last year. The movie enjoyed a theatrical run of over 100 days in a good number of centres.

Social media is a great platform to share one’s thoughts and showcase their talents. Sani Yas, a publicity designer in the Malayalam film industry has been making use of the platform very wisely. He is popular in the social media circles for his designs. Superstars’ photos are often used for fan arts and one such fan art made by Sani is now trending virally.

Last day, he unveiled his latest work – a poster featuring Mammootty as Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. This fan-made design has gone viral within hours of its release. Some of Sani’s other popular works include Kunjali Marakkar poster, a design with Mammootty as Fidel Castro and Dulquer as the revolutionary Cuban leader Che Guevara.

Mammootty looks strikingly similar to Pinarayi Vijayan in this design. Interestingly, the megastar is acting as a Chief Minister in his upcoming Telugu film Yatra. The movie directed by Mahi Raghav is the biopic of late Andhra Pradesh CM YS Rajashekhara Reddy. Mammootty is playing YSR’s role in the movie, shoot for which is currently progressing in Hyderabad.

Apart from that Mammootty is also set to play a Chief Minister’s role in an upcoming Malayalam movie scripted by the National Award winning writer duo of Bobby and Sanjay. Santhosh Vishwanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame will be directing this movie.
