Aishwarya Rajesh replaces Trisha in Saamy Square!

Shoot for Vikram’s Saamy Square is currently in the final stages. The movie directed by Hari is the sequel of the superhit cop thriller Saamy, which was released in 2003. Saamy Square was first announced with Keerthy Suresh and Trisha as the two female leads. However, the latter opted out citing creative differences with the director. Ever since then, the makers have been on the look for a replacement for Trisha. Finally, the makers have roped in Aishwarya Rajesh to play the role.

Producer Shibu Thameens confirmed Aishwarya’s casting by tweeting,

“Happy to announce that the most performing, promising, and the busiest actress @aishu_dil joining #SaamySquare and shoot on progress”

Aishwarya Rajesh is well known for her performances in films like Rummy, Kakka Muttai and Dharma Durai. She is currently part of some big projects like Vada Chennai, Lakshmi and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Saamy Square is her second film with Vikram, as she is also sharing screen space with him in Dhruva Natchathiram. In Saamy Square, she has a lengthy cameo role with a song and some emotional scenes, which are integral to the movie’s plot.

If reports are to be believed, Saamy Square has Vikram playing a dual role, as Aarusaamy and his son, who is also a cop. National award winner Bobby Simha plays the antagonist. From the promos, Saamy Square looks like an usual Hari film with the regular mass masala formula. Prabhu, Delhi Ganesh, John Vijay, Soori and Imman Annachi are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Shibu Thameens, who also produced Vikram’s Irumugan, is funding Saamy Square under the banner of Thameens Films. The movie is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

Shoot for director KV Anand’s upcoming movie with Suriya and Mohanlal is currently progressing in London. The movie, tentatively titled as Suriya 37, is an action thriller planned on a big scale. Lyca Productions, one of the leading banners in K Town, is funding this movie.

Allu Sirish, Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani are playing crucial roles in the movie. Latest buzz is that Arya is also part of the movie and is playing the villain’s role. The actor was recently spotted in London which has further strengthened the speculations. The makers are yet to confirm about his casting but if it’s true, director KV Anand has pulled off a real casting coup.

Pranav Mohanlal is hard working and acting comes naturally to him: Lena

Pranav Mohanlal is hard working and acting comes naturally to him: Lena

Lena is unarguably one of the most talented Malayali actresses we have at present. After years of toiling in television serials and doing small supporting roles, Lena made her way up and carved a niche for herself in the Malayalam film industry. Some of her best performances came in movies like Traffic, Left Right Left, Vikramadithyan and Ennu Ninte Moideen.

Earlier this year, Lena played the role of Pranav Mohanlal’s mother in Aadhi. The actress was all praise of Pranav in a recent interview to TOI. She is quoted saying, “He is very hard working and I think acting comes naturally to him. It’s in his genes. Be it doing parkour or playing the guitar, he practises everything and wants to bring perfection to it. Though he is quite shy and laidback, he has a lot of depth and is focused.”

Aadhi is probably the only movie in Lena’s career where she was criticized for her performance. As a young mother who is anxious about her son’s safety, Lena’s performance went slightly overboard. Lena herself has admitted that she performed that way as director Jeethu Joseph felt that’s how a woman who became a mother at a very young age would behave.

Lena is currently in the Himalayas for a brief break from her busy professional life. Paviettande Madhurachoorala and Vaarikuzhiyile Kolapathakam are her upcoming releases.

Dileep and B Unnikrishnan to team up for the first time!

Dileep and B Unnikrishnan to team up for the first time!

Dileep, who was last seen in Kammara Sambhavam, has not signed a movie after that. He already has Professor Dinkan and an untitled film with Nadirshah in his kitty. The latest we hear is that the actor has signed for a new movie with director B Unnikrishnan. The two have not worked together before and so it will be interesting to see how their rapport works.

As per reports, shoot for their upcoming movie will be commencing on July 20. They are planning to release the movie for this year’s Christmas. More details about the genre or other cast members have not yet been revealed. An official announcement is expected to be made by the makers very soon.

B Unnikrishnan’s last release was the Mohanlal starrer Villain. The movie, which was released last October, also had Tamil actor Vishal, Manju Warrier, Hansika and Raashi Khanna in major roles. Though Mohanlal’s performance was appreciated unanimously, the movie failed to do well at the box office.

Later, B Unnikrishnan had announced a project with Fahadh Faasil and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles. Sajeev Pazhoor, who won the National award for Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, had penned the story while Unnikrishnan worked on the screenplay along with Dileesh Nair. However, there was no follow-up to that and so we presume that project has been shelved for now.

Suriya and Karthi croon together for Venkat Prabhu’s Party; Watch the song here!

Director Venkat Prabhu’s next Party is gearing up to hit screens. The movie promises to be a fun filled entertainer on the lines of his earlier film Goa. Venkat Prabhu is a director who knows the pulse of the Tamil audience and he is popular for churning out commercial entertainers. Though his last couple of films were underwhelming, he is expected to make a strong comeback with Party, which promises to be a rollicking entertainer aimed at the youth audience.

Venkat Prabhu’s brother, actor Premgi Amaren is making his debut as a music director with this movie. Rajesh Yadav is cranking the camera and Praveen KL is handling edits. The movie is being produced by T Siva under the banner of Amma Creations.

Tovino excited to be part of National award winner Salim Ahamed’s next

As we had reported earlier, Tovino Thomas is playing the lead in award winning filmmaker Salim Ahamed’s next. The movie titled as ‘And The Oscar Goes To’ has Tovino playing the role of a struggling Malayali filmmaker. The movie is inspired from the lives of many aspiring filmmakers. Tovino, who has been very choosy with his projects, has pinned high hopes on this movie.

In a recent interview, the actor sounded very excited about being part of a Salim Ahamed directorial. He is quoted saying, “I had watched Adaminte Makan while I was frequenting film festivals and his other films in theatre. He’s also someone who I have a good rapport with. When we met at Filmfare awards two years ago, we could instantly strike up a conversation and spent a long time discussing films. So, in a way I’m excited to be part of this film.”

Salim Ahamed is known for extracting the best out of his actors. His debut movie, Adaminte Makan Abu won Salim Kumar a National Award for best actor. The movie was chosen as India’s official entry for the best foreign film category in the 84th Academy Awards. His last film, Pathemari starring Mammootty won the National award for best Malayalam film that year. Expectations will be on the higher side for his upcoming movie with Tovino.

Shoot for the movie will be commencing in September. Los Angeles, US and Canada have been finalized as the major locations. Anu Sithara and a foreigner will be playing the two female leads. An official announcement with details regarding the whole cast and crew is expected to be made shortly.

‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ fame H Vinoth’s next is either with Ajith or Vijay

H Vinoth is one of the most filmmakers in Tamil cinema currently. Both his films – Sathuranga Vettai and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru – were successful, both critically and commercially. Theeran starring Karthi, released last year, is regarded as one of the finest Tamil movies in recent years. Ever since the movie’s release, there have been lots of talks about Vinoth’s next.

As per latest reports, Tamil cinema’s two of the biggest superstars, Ajith and Vijay, are the front runners for Vinoth’s next film. The director has approached both the actors with seperate scripts and talks are currently on. Rumour mills are abuzz that Ajith’s project is almost confirmed and an official announcement is expected to be made shortly. It will be really interesting to see a budding talent like Vinoth calling shots for superstars like Ajith and Vijay.

Ajith is currently shooting for the second schedule of ‘Viswasam’, directed by Siva. It is his fourth film with the director after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. Nayanthara is playing the female lead in the movie which is touted to be a mass commercial entertainer. Viswasam is slated for Pongal release in January next year. Reports also suggest that Prabhudeva and Vishnuvardhan are also planning to direct Ajith soon.

Vijay meanwhile is busy with the shoot of Sarkar, his third outing with AR Murugadoss after the blockbusters, Thuppakki and Kaththi. As the title suggests, the movie is a political thriller featuring Vijay as a millionaire bussinessman. Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar are also part of this movie. Sarkar is slated for a grand Diwali release this January. Vijay is also in talks with Atlee and Mohan Raja but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Pokkiri Raja 2 to go on floors from August

Pokkiri Raja 2 to go on floors from August

Last year, director Vysakh had announced the sequel for his hit film Pokkiri Raja. Mammootty and Prithviraj played the lead roles in the movie, which was released back in 2010. The sequel titled Raja 2 is said to be a spin off on Mammootty’s character from the movie. As per latest reports, shoot for the movie will be commencing from the first week of August.

Pre-production works like location scouting and casting process are currently progressing. If reports are to be believed, the movie will have two female leads and Anusree has been confirmed to play one. There is still no information about Prithviraj reprising his role from Pokkiri Raja. An official announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew members is expected to be made by the makers very soon.

Raja 2 will be director Vysakh’s next after the all-time blockbuster Pulimurugan, which was released two years back in 2016. With that movie’s massive success, Vysakh established himself as one of leading filmmakers in the industry. So expectations are huge when he teams up with Mammootty for Raja 2. He has planned to make the movie on a big scale with a lavish budget.

Udhayakrishna, who scripted Pokkiri Raja, will be scripting Raja 2 as well. According to him, the story, backdrop and the setting of Raja 2 will be entirely different from Pokkiri Raja. Opening up more on Raja 2, director Vysakh in an earlier interview had said, “Since the sensibilities of today’s audience is not the same as in 2010, Raja 2 will be a more racy and technically advanced movie. It will be an action packed entertainer that can be enjoyed by the fans, kids and the families as well. It will have all necessary elements that one would expect in a Mammootty starrer – a complete package with action, humour and family drama.”

Mammootty is currently busy shooting in Hyderabad for his Telugu film Yatra, in which he is playing the role of late Andhra CM YS Rajashekhara Reddy. He will be returing back by the end of month to start shooting for Raja 2 from August.

Here’s the release date of Mohanlal’s Drama

Here’s the release date of Mohanlal’s Drama

Mohanlal starrer Drama is an eagerly awaited by the Malayali audience as the superstar is teaming up with ace filmmaker Ranjith after a long gap. Mohanlal and Ranjith have teamed up for many memorable films in the past and so, naturally, Drama also has high expectations. As per our sources within the industry, the movie is slated for a grand Onam release. It is slated to hit screens on August 24.

Unlike Mohanlal-Ranjith duo’s earlier films, Drama will not have any superstar elements such as massive action scenes or dialogues. Ranjith has scripted it as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. The recently released reader of the movie gave hints of a fun entertainer, something that Mohanlal has not been part of in the recent past.

Mohanlal has pinned high hopes on the movie. According to him, Drama is a kind of movie that has not been attempted in Malayalam cinema. The story, set entirely in UK, is centred around a husband and wife. Asha Sarath plays Mohanlal’s pair in the movie. This is their third outing together as a couple after Karmayodha and 1971 Beyond Borders.

Drama has a big supporting cast which includes Arundhathi Nag, Niranj Maniyan Pilla Raju, Siddique, Asha Sarath, Subi Suresh, Johny Antony, Renji Panicker, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom and Baiju among others. Veteran Azhagappan is the cinematographer. MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing the movie under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.

Visualising the world of Kayamkulam Kochunni

Visualising the world of Kayamkulam Kochunni

As we all know, lot of period flicks are coming up in Malayalam cinema. Among them, Kayamkulam Kochunni is one of the most awaited. The movie directed by Rosshan Andrrews stars Nivin Pauly as Kayamkulam Kochunni while superstar Mohanlal plays an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. The national award winning writer duo of Bobby and Sanjay have scripted this movie based on the life of Kochunni. He was a legendary highwayman who was active in the Travancore region during the 19th century.

Kayamkulam Kochunni went on floors in October last year. But the team had started the pre-production works long back. Even before the scripting started, each department including art, cinematography, action choreography, costumes and the make up team were involved in research works. The makers had a creative meeting one month before the movie went on floors and discussed in detail about the research materials conducted by all these departments. The whole team including director Rosshan and lead actor Nivin Pauly attended the creative meeting and shared their ideas.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is perhaps the first Malayalam movie to have had a previsualisation (previs) to get an accurate picture of how each scene should be shot. Since the movie had a lot of prominence in action, director Rosshan and his action research team stayed in Mumbai for two months to develop a storyline for the stunt sequences alone.

Once the movie started rolling, almost everything went as per plan. They had planned to wrap up shoot by 145 days but it got extended to 161 days due to some weather and other issues. Kochi, Mangalore, Udupi, Goa, Palakkad and Sri Lanka were the shoot locations. Currently, the post-production works are progressing at a brisk pace. Since it is a period flick set in the pre-independence era, the movie requires a lot of VFX works to make the setting look authentic. Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran, has been signed for Kayamkulam Kochunni as well. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie which is expected to hit screens in August.
