Maradona release postponed!

Tovino Thomas has some exciting releases coming up in the second half of the year. Two of his films – Maradona and Theevandi were slated to hit screens back to back in week’s gap. However, Maradona’s release has now been postponed. The movie’s Vishnu Narayan informed the postponing with a post in his social media handle which reads,

MARADONA release has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Vishnu Narayan, who has formerly a assisted directors like Dileesh Pothan, Aashiq Abu and Sameer Thahir, is making his directorial debut with Maradona. Then movie scripted by Krishnamoorthy is said to be a romantic thriller. Tovino plays the title character in the movie. Newbie Sharanya R Nair is playing the female lead opposite him.

Chemban Vinod Jose, Kichu Tellus, Tito Wilson, Leona Lishoy, Niranjan, Jins Bhaskar and Nishthar Ahamed are also part of the movie’s supporting cast supporting cast. Deepak D Menon is the cinematographer and Sushin Shyam is handling the music department. Saiju Sreedharan, who did the cuts for Mayaanadhi is editing this upcoming movie as well.

Maradona is being produced by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studio.

Confirmed: Here’s when Lucifer starts rolling!

Actor Prithviraj’s directorial debut, Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the lead is one of the most about talked about projects in recent years. Murali Gopy is scripting this movie and is funded by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. Through the movie’s social media page, the makers have announced that shoot will officially kick-start on July 18.

Pre-production works are currently in the final stages. Casting process is almost over and unconfirmed reports hints at a star-studded cast in Lucifer. Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Murali Gopy, Manju Warrier, ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan are some of the prominent names that are doing the rounds but the makers are yet to give an official word.

The fact that two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars – Mohanlal and Prithviraj – are teaming up for the first time itself triggers high expectations for Lucifer. Reportedly, the movie will be a complete mass masala entertainer aimed at the fans. Prithviraj had earlier hinted that Lucifer, like all Murali Gopy scripts, will be an intense film that demands strong performances from the actors. In the technical crew, Sujith Vaassudev will be cranking the camera and Deepak Dev will be handling the music department.

Prithviraj is currently busy with the shoot of Jenuse Mohmammed’s 9. The actor is also venturing into production with 9, which is said to be a sci-fi thriller. Mohanlal meanwhile is shooting in UK for Drama, directed by Ranjith. The actor will be flying back to India by the end of this month and will be joining the sets of Lucifer from July 18. The movie will shot majorly in Trivandrum, Kochi and Mumbai.

Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is a hugely anticipated movie. Pre-production works for this epic film have been progressing for some time now. The makers have been giving timely updates about the developments. The most recent announcement was regarding Pranav Mohanlal making a special appearance in the movie.

As we already know, Mohanlal is playing the role of Kunjali Marakkar in the movie and Pranav has been roped in to play his younger part. Director Priyadarshan is of the opinion that Pranav playing the younger part of Mohanlal will add more believability to the character. When he told Pranav about the role, the youngster just smiled and immediately agreed to be part of the project.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era. The story of Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is reportedly based on the fourth Marakkar. His life apparently had the most interesting elements.

According to Priyadarshan, the movie will be a semi-fictious one with bits of history and imagination. While Mohanlal plays the fourth Marakkar, veteran actor Madhu is playing the first among them, named Kutyali Marakkar. Tamil actor Madhu has also been signed to play a crucial role in the movie.

Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is being planned to be made on a whopping budget of over Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this movie. Priyadarshan is scripting the movie jointly with Ani Sasi, the younger son of legendary filmmaker IV Sasi. A couple of other writers are also part of the scripting team.

Sabu Cyril is handling the production design. For cranking the camera, Priyadarshan has got the National award winning Tirru on board. The movie has been planned to go on floors on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1). Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

Suriya’s upcoming movie, NGK, with Selvaraghavan is eagerly awaited, not just by the fans but by the common cine buffs as well. Selvaraghavan is a highly revered filmmaker in Kollywood and commands a huge fan following. Him teaming up with Suriya for the first itself is a matter of excitement for the Tami audience. The makers have not yet released any details about the movie which has further raised the curiosity.

The final schedule of NGK has commenced today. Taking to his social media handle, Selvaraghavan shared a photo from the movie’s sets and along with that also confirmed that NGK is right on track for a Diwali release. Vijay’s upcoming movie with AR Murugadoss is also set to hit screens for Diwali. Since both the camps have decided to go ahead as per their plans, a huge box office clash is on cards this Diwali.

NGK is said to be one of the most challenging films that Suriya has done so far in his career. There are several theories floating around in social medias about the movie’s genre and Suriya’s character but nothing has been confirmed yet by the makers. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads while Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu essays the villain role. NGK’s technical crew comprises of music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Arvind Krishna and editor Prasanna GK.

As we had reported recently, superstar Rajinikanth is shooting for his upcoming movie with Karthik Subbaraj in Dehradun. Production giant Sun Pictures is funding this yet-to-be titled movie. Along with Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi is also playing a crucial role in the movie. Other details regarding Rajinikanth’s character or the movie’s genre have not yet been revealed.

As per latest reports, the makers have approached India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein to choreograph the stunts. Hein, who has worked with Rajinikanth in Sivaji, Enthiran and Kochadaiyaan, is expected to join the team very soon. It will be interesting to see what kind of action blocks he choreographs for the superstar this time around. With the stunts in his recently released film Kaala, the 67-year-old Rajinikanth has once again proven that age is just a number in front of his unmatchable energy and passion.

Karthik Subbaraj is one of the most talented filmmakers in Tamil cinema. All his movies – Pizza, Jigarthanda, Iraivi and Mercury have been won critical acclaim for their uniqueness. With such two big stars like Rajinikanth and Vijay Sethupathi, the burden of expectations are huge for Karthik’s upcoming movie.

Simran, Bobby Simha, ‘Mercury’ fame Sananth Reddy and Megha Akash are also said to be part of the supporting cast. Recently, we had reported that Biju Menon will next be teaming up with Suresh Divakar of ‘Ivan Maryadharaman’ fame. Udhayakrishna is scripting this movie, which has been titled as Aanakallan. The customary pooja and switch on ceremony was held today in Capital Hotel, Trivandrum. Saptha Tarang Cinema, the banner which produced the recent superhit Panchavarnathatha, is funding this upcoming movie as well.

Biju Menon, Siddique, Maniyanpilla Raju and the crew of Aanakallan were present for the pooja. Like the director’s previous film, this upcoming movie is also touted to be a full on comedy entertainer. The makers have reportedly signed Anusree, Shamna Kasim and Kaniha as the three female leads.

Siddique, Hareesh Kanaran, Bala, Sai Kumar, Kailas, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Devan, Anil Murali, Janardhanan, Bindu Panicker and Priyanka form the movie’s supporting cast. Alby will be cranking the camera and John Kutty will handle the edits. The multi faceted Nadirshah has been signed as the music director. Trivandrum, Palakkad and Coimbatore have been finalized as the major locations.

Biju Menon meanwhile is awaiting the release of Padayottam, a dark comedy directed by debutant Rafeek Ibrahim. The actor has also committed for a movie each with Lal Jose and G Prajith of ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame.

3 Idiots is unarguably one of the most loved Indian films of all time. The movie directed by hit maker Rajkumar Hirani had Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles. Based on Chethan Bhagat’s best selling novel Five Point Someone, Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Vidhu Vinod Chopra scripted a coming-of-age comedy entertainer that revolved around the lives of three engineering students. Upon its release in 2009, the movie shattered all pre-existing records and emerged as the highest grossing Indian film of all time.

Rajkumar Hirani has now revealed that he has started works for the sequel of 3 Idiots, in collaboration with his writer Abhijat Joshi. He is quoted saying, “I definitely want to make a sequel to 3 Idiots. In fact, Abhijat and I started writing something a few days ago. But it’s still in the initial stage and we will take a fair amount of time to develop the script.”

The sequel is expected to bring back the crazy friends Rancho (Aamir Khan) Farhan (Madhvan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi). If things go as per plans, the movie will start rolling once Hirani wraps his next project, Munna Bhai 3, the third installment in the hugely popular Munna Bhai franchise. The director is currently busy with the promotions of Sanju, the biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt. Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead is slated to hit screens worldwide on June 29.

As we already know, Fahadh Faasil and Amal Neerad are coming together once again after the success of ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’. The movie went on floors in March and team went about silently with the shooting. Entire shoot was wrapped up earlier this month in Dubai. Amal Neerad, through his social media handle, has unveiled the title and first look poster. The movie has been titled as ‘Varathan’, which means outsider.

Varathan has Aishwarya Lekshmi of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame playing the female lead. Nothing much is known about the movie or its genre as the makers had kept utmost secrecy throughout the shoot time. Fahadh Faasil will be seen in two different looks in the movie – one with a beard and the other with a goatie. Sharafudheen, ‘Parava’ fame Arjun Ashokan, Vijilesh, Dileesh Pothan, Chethan Lal and many others are part of the supporting cast. The movie was shot extensively in Vagamon apart from a brief schedule in Dubai.

Nazriya Nazim is debuting as a producer with this movie. She is jointly funding it jointly with the director’s home banner Amal Neerad Productions. If reports are to be believed, the movie will hit screens for this year’s Onam, which falls in August. Expectations are on the higher side for Varathan as Fahadh Faasil and Amal Neerad’s last outing together, ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, was a widely acclaimed one.

Mohanlal’s Drama slated for Onam release!

Mohanlal is currently in UK shooting for Drama, his upcoming movie with director Ranjith. Shoot is nearing completion and the latest we hear is that the movie will hit screens for Onam, this coming August. Mammootty’s Oru Kuttanadan Blog and Nivin Pauly’s Kayamkulam Kochunni are expected to be the other big Onam releases.

Drama is an eagerly awaited movie as Mohanlal-Ranjith duo have given many memorable films in the past.
Nothing much is known about the movie as the makers have kept utmost secrecy about the genre or other details. The recently released first look poster had a chariot and couple of high end cars which gave the feel of a royal wedding. Interestingly, the makers of Drama had filmed the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, last month.

Drama was a hastily planned project as Ranjith’s initial plan was to direct a romantic flick titled Bilathikadha. Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj and Anu Sithara were supposed to play lead roles in the movie with an extended cameo by Mohanlal. However, due to some unknown reasons, the project got dropped and Ranjith worked on a new script with Mohanlal as the lead. Eventually, the actor managed to squeeze in dates from his busy schedule for this movie.

Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Subi Suresh, Niranj, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom, Baiju and Mythili are part of this upcoming movie’s supporting cast. Veteran Azhagappan is the cinematographer. MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing the movie under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.

Director Anjali Menon’s comeback movie Koode is eagerly awaited by the Malayali audience. The movie has a dream star cast – Prithviraj, Nazriya Nazim and Parvathy play lead roles. Though Nazriya-Parvathy and Prithviraj-Parvathy have worked together earlier, this is the first time Nazriya and Prithviraj are sharing screen space. The two did not know each other well prior to the movie’s shoot.

Nazriya, who like Anjali Menon is also making a comeback after a four year long gap, was tensed about acting with Prithviraj. To ease out the tension, Anjali started a chat group with the actors and that is when they actually started bonding. Soon Nazriya and Prithviraj became close to each other. Like in the movie, they bonded like siblings. Prithviraj said the same in a couple of interviews as well. Their on-screen chemistry as Joshua and Jenny is something exciting to look forward to in Koode.

According to Anjali Menon, Koode is a heartwarming tale of relationships. The movie also stars director Ranjith, Atul Kulkarni, Roshan Mathew, Sidharth Menon and Maala Parvathy in supporting roles. M Jayachandran and Rahul Dixit have composed the songs. Littil Swayamp, noted for his splendid work in Parava, is the DOP and Praveen Prabhakar handles the edits.

M Renjith’s Rejaputhra Visual Media is producing this movie association with Little Films India. The makers have announced that the movie will be hitting screens on July 6.
