‘I hope and pray that I can be half the father that you are’; Dulquer Salmaan’s Father’s Day wishes wins hearts!

Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan are one of the most loved father-son duos in Mollywood. The bond they share is quite unlike any other celebrity father-son duo; there is hardly any public display of affection yet they are very close to each other. Last day, on the occasion of Father’s Day, Dulquer shared a photo of his dad his social media handle. Along with that he also wrote a lovely note which reads,

The greatest dad in the world ! You’ve only ever lead by example ! Never told me what to do. You’ve been protective and concerned my whole life. When I was younger I didn’t understand it. After Maryam I now know. I hope and pray that I can be half the father that you are. Happy Father’s Day Pa

Mammootty hardly ever talks about Dulquer in his interviews or public gatherings. Unlike other celebrity dads, be it from the South or Bollywood, who make it a point to promote their kids, Mammootty has always preferred to stay away from such activities. Not promoting Dulquer or his movies is seen as one of the most admirable qualities of Mammootty.

Recently also there was an incident when trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that Mammootty will be promoting his son’s debut Hindi film, Karwaan. But Dulquer was quick to correct him, as he made it clear that his father has never promoted his movie, and it will be same in the future as well.

Prithviraj pens a touching Father’s Day note remembering his dad Sukumaran!

Prithviraj is currently in Delhi shooting for his upcoming movie ‘9’ which also marks his maiden production venture. A very active social media user, Prithviraj makes it a point to give regularly updates. Today, on the occasion of Father’s day, he has written a moving note on his Facebook page remembering his father, late actor Sukumaran. Apparently, his character, Joshua, in his upcoming movie Koode has a lot of similarities with him in terms of his relationship with his father.

Prithviraj’s Facebook post reads,

Like every son..I too idolised my father. He was my mentor, friend and hero. I remember wanting to grow up sooner..so that I could sit down for that “man to man” with him every now and then. I remember him as someone who knew everything..EVERYTHING. But just as I was evolving into this little man..I lost him. He left me with so many little and big things that I could never do with him..and worse..he left me with that “I wish I knew” feeling. There on..I mostly discovered the man he was through little snippets and anecdotes I got from people who knew him. From my mom, brother, his friends and colleagues..I discovered a side of my father I never knew. And today..who he is in my mind..is part who I knew through the 13 years of my life..and part who I’ve been told he was.
Strangely..Joshua too had to in a way lose his father..though not to death..at the exact same age as I did! And then..years later..Joshua too re discovers his father..in a broken version of the man he once knew..and little stories that people around him tell him. KOODE..according to Anjali..is Joshua’s story. But I know for sure..that it’s as much Joshua’s father’s story.
Happy father’s day dad. Happy father’s day Aloshy.
Happy father’s day to every child’s hero!
Love,
Prithviraj. (sic)

Koode directed by Anjali Menon is a tale of relationships. Prithviraj, Nazriya and Parvathy play lead roles in the movie. The former two play siblings while director Ranjith and Maala Parvathi will be seen as their parents. Koode, which is adapted from an acclaimed Marathi movie ‘Happy Journey’, is slated for release on July 6.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal Review: Mammootty shines in this engaging thriller

Haneef Adeni after the success of ‘The Great Father’ teams up with Mammootty once again – that was the biggest highlight of ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’. Haneef though dons the role of a scriptwriter this time as the director’s hat is worn by Shaji Padoor, a veteran who has been in the industry for over two decades as an associate to many ace filmmakers. The highly impressive promos generated a huge pre-release, but does the movie manage to live up to all that? Let’s see.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal starts off very promisingly as we are introduced to a serial killer committing cold blooded murders. Officer Derick Abraham, one of the best in the force, is handed over the investigation charge and he cracks it within no time. From there the plot takes a shift, the first of many to come. From a riveting crime thriller mode, the narrative becomes an emotional drama involving Derick and his brother Philip. Anything more about the plot would end up as spoilers, so let’s leave it there.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal Movie Stills

Haneef Adeni has scripted a two hour long commercial subject that has crime, emotions and of course the twists. But stuffing in too many subplots could have been avoided as they end up as bumps in what is otherwise a smooth ride. Shaji Padoor with his years of experience has given a decent work in his directorial debut. The movie has almost all the stereotypes associated with a wannabe crime thriller – a serial killer who mouths Biblical verses, a forthright investigating officer with a dark past, a superior who stands by him and a gang of jealous colleagues.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal Movie Stills

Despite all this, what makes Abrahaminte Santhathikal a good watch is easily Mammootty’s towering screen presence and the final 20 minutes or so. Even though it has tonnes of logical loopholes, there is a proper culmination which gives a satisfying movie watching experience for a commoner.

Derick Abraham’s role was never really a challenge for an actor like Mammootty as he comes up with a finely measured performance. The Big B-esque brooding nature and suitableness is there in this movie as well. Anson Paul as Philip Abraham had a solid role and the youngster was impressive in parts. Kalabhavan Shajon plays a police officer once again but luckily it’s a slightly different role and he delivers what was expected of him. Kaniha, Siddique, Renji Panicker, Suresh Krishna, Yog Japee, Tarushi, Sohan Seenulal and Maqbool Salman are also part of the cast.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal Movie Stills

Technically, Abrahaminte Santhathikal has a lot of ‘Great Father’ hangover. DOP Alby’s stylish frames, slo-mo shots and the overall making style instantly reminds one of TGF. Gopi Sunder has done a good job with the background score which keeps the audience hooked till the end.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal Movie Stills

Overall, Abrahaminte Santhathikal has a good share of flaws but the final act lifts the movie and gives feel of contentment. It is definitely a good one-time watch for all those who love thriller flicks.

It’s a mega three way battle at Kollywood box office this Diwali

Festival seasons are always a great time to release movies. Filmmakers across the country plan their releases accordingly to cash in on the holiday season. If its Onam for Mollywood and Eid for Bollywood, its Diwali for Kollywood. This Diwali, Kollywood box office will most probably witness a huge clash between the three top stars of the industry – Vijay, Ajith and Suriya. While Suriya’s NGK is almost confirmed, Vijay’s yet-to-be titled Murugadoss movie and Ajith’s Viswasam are racing ahead to complete for the Diwali 2018 clash.

Suriya’s NGK is directed by Selvaraghavan. Shoot for the movie is currently in the final stages and is expected to be wrapped up by the end of this month. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads in this movie which is touted to be a political flick. Selvaraghavan is one of the finest filmmakers in Tamil cinema and when he teams up with Suriya for the first team, expectations are bound to be on the higher side.

Ajith is joining hands with director Siva for the fourth time for a new flick titled Viswasam. Nayanthara is playing the female lead in this movie. If reports are to be believed, Ajith is playing a dual role as brothers in Viswasam, which is said to be a mass commercial entertainer. Shoot for the movie is currently progressing in Hyderabad and the team still has two more schedules left in Mumbai and Chennai.

After the blockbuster success of Thupakki and Kaththi, Vijay and AR Murugadoss are teaming up for the third time. Thalapathy 62 (working title) is said havs strong political flavors and Vijay reportedly plays a millionaire in the movie. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the movie which also has Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar in a crucial role. AR Rahman scores music for this big budget mass entertainer funded by Sun Pictures.

Reports from Kollywood medias suggest that makers of all the three movies are working towards a Diwali release. However, trade experts believe that such a scenario will have a big impact in the overall box office figures. Let’s wait and see how the drama unfolds.
