Last day, on the holy occasion of Eid, the title of Dulquer Salmaan’s new Tamil movie was announced. Debutant Ra Karthik is directing this movie titled ‘Vaan’. It is a romantic travelogue and the beautifully designed title poster with a misty snow filled mountain in the background also implies the same. While reports about the movie having four female leads have been doing the rounds for some time, the director has only confirmed it now.

Apparently, they are in talks with heroines like Nivetha Pethuraj and Shalini Pandey but nothing has been confirmed yet as they are still figuring out whether to do the movie as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. With the success of Mahanati, Dulquer has become popular among the Telugu audience and that clearly has inspired the makers of Vaan to think about a bilingual.

Ra Karthik, who has also scripted the movie, assures that Vaan, which means sky in Tamil, will not be a cliched love story. Dulquer will be seen sporting multiple looks in the movie. Since it is a travelogue, the movie will be shot across the country with major portions set in North India. It will be shot in exotic locations in Chandigarh and Nainital.

George C Williams, well known for his splendid works in movies like ‘Theri’, ‘Kaththi’ and ‘Raja Rani’ has been roped in as the DOP. Multiple national award winner Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits and music department will be handled by debutant Dheena Dhayalan. Selva Kumar J is bankrolling the movie under the banner of Kenanya Films.

As we all know, Dulquer Salmaan is foraying into Bollywood with Karwaan which is due for release on August 3. The movie directed by Akarsh Khurana has Dulquer co-starring with the ace Irrfan Khan and internet sensation Mithila Palkar. As the release date is closing in, the makers have started promotion works for the movie.

Leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on his Twitter page that Dulquer Salmaan’s father Mammootty will be promoting Karwaan. Dulquer though was quick to clear the airs as he replied to Taran saying his father has never promoted his movie, and it will be same in the future as well.

Taran Adarsh tweeted,

Actor Mammootty to promote his son Dulquer Salmaan’s debut film in Hindi #Karwaan… Stars Irrfan, Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar… Produced by RSVP and Ishka Films… Directed by Akarsh Khurana.

Dulquer replied,

Absolutely false news sir ! My father has never promoted me or my films to date. And that’s not going to change. There is some fabricated news going around.

Unlike other stars, be it from the South or Bollywood, who make it a point to promote their kids, Mammootty has always preferred to stay away from such activities. Not promoting Dulquer or his movies is widely seen as one of the most admirable qualities of Mammootty.

Confirmed: Here’s the release date of Tovino’s Theevandi

Tovino Thomas has some exciting releases coming up in the second half of the year. His much awaited movie, Theevandi has finally got a release date. The movie which was initially slated for a Vishu release will be hitting screens on June 29. That makes it back to back releases for Tovino in a space of one week. Maradona, a romantic thriller directed by debutant Vishnu Narayan is all set for release on June 22.

Theevandi marks the directorial debut of Fellini TP. The movie scripted by Vini Viswa Lal is said to be a political satire. Tovino plays the role of a lazy unemployed youngster named Bineesh in this movie. From the title and promos, we can make out that Bineesh is a chain smoker. Samyuktha Menon, who essays the role of a government employee, is paired with Tovino. A romantic song ‘Jeevamshamayi’ featuring the lead pair has become a sensational hit and thus helping in publicizing the movie among the general audience.

Theevandi’s supporting cast includes a bunch of newcomers and seasoned actors like Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saiju Kurup, Shammi Thilakan, Surabhi Lakshmi, Neena Kurup and Sudheesh. Kailas Menon composes the music and cinematography is done by Gautham Sankar. Appu Bhattadhari is handling the edits. August Cinema, one of the leading banners in Malayalam film industry, is funding this movie.

Shah Rukh Khan thanks Dhanush!

Last day, the Eid special teaser of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie Zero was released. The teaser featuring Shah Rukh along with Salman Khan went on to clock millions of views within hours. It is trending across all social media platforms with both celebrities and commoners sharing it. Tamil actor Dhanush shared the teaser in his official Twitter handle and wrote,

The new teaser of Zero. This is majestic @iamsrk .. @aanandlrai bhai YOU !! Big hug all the best. Looking forward.

It is not often that we see South Indian actors expressing appreciation for their contemporaries in Bollywood. Seeing Dhanush’s tweet on Zero, Shah Rukh quickly replied,

“Thank you so much. You’re kind and it’s so nice to have appreciation from an absolutely AAA+++ actor like you. Love to you.”

It is really heartening to see the kind of mutual respect these two actors have for each other. It is worth a mention that Dhanush has worked with Zero’s director Aanand L Rai in Raanjhanaa, the actor’s debut Hindi film. The two are also in talks for another Hindi film, which will be commencing once they both finish their ongoing commitments.

Anand L Rai still has works pending for Zero. It is a hugely ambitious project in which Shah Rukh plays a dwarf for the first time in his career. Along with SRK, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma are also there in the leads. The movie is slated to hit scenes on December 22, as a Christmas release.

Dhanush meanwhile is busy shooting for Maari 2 and also has Vada Chennai gearing up for release.

Kunchacko Boban’s Johny Johny Yes Appa starts rolling!

Kunchacko Boban is busy as a bee these days shuffling from one set to another. He has already had four releases this year – Diwanjimoola Grand Prix, Shikkari Shambu, Kuttanadan Marpappa and Panchavarnathatha. Earlier this week, he completed the shoot of Mangalyam Thanthunanena and his next, Johny Johny Yes Appa, has gone on floors today.

G Marthandan is directing this movie and Joji Thomas of Vellimoonga fame is scripting it. According to Kunchacko Boban, the movie will be an out and out fun filled entertainer. Anu Sithara is paired opposite him for the second time after the success of Ramante Edanthottam. Details about other cast members are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Director Marthandan is known for his films like Deivathinte Swantham Cleetus, Acha Din and Pavada. The much in demand Shaan Rahman has been roped in to handle the music department for Johny Johny Yes Appa. Vaishaka Rajan is producing the movie under the banner of Vaishaka Films.

Kunchacko Boban meanwhile has also committed for films with debutant Bilahari, titled Allu Ramendran, and veteran Lal Jose. Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

Prabhu joins Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham team!

Pre-production works for Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is currently on in full swing. The makers have been giving timely updates about the developments, the latest being the joining of veteran actor Prabhu. Though Prabhu is a Tamil actor, he is popular among the Malayali audience courtesy his performances in movies like Kalapani and Malayali Mamanu Vanakkam.

With Prabhu joining the team, Marakkar.. looks like a reunion of the Kalapani trio – him, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. Sabu Cyril, the art director of Kalapani is handling the production design in Marakkar. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this movie. A whopping budget of over Rs 100 crores is being invested on the movie, thus making it one of the most expensive movies that has ever been made in Malayalam cinema.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era. The story of Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is reportedly based on the fourth Marakkar. His life apparently had the most interesting elements. According to director Priyadarshan, the movie will be a semi-fictious one with bits of history and imagination.

While Mohanlal plays the fourth Marakkar, veteran actor Madhu is playing the first among them, named Kutyali Marakkar. The makers are yet to announce details about the other cast members but rumours suggest that Nagarjuna, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal are also being considered for the movie.

Priyadarshan is scripting the movie jointly with Ani Sasi, the younger son of legendary filmmaker IV Sasi. A couple of other writers are also part of the scripting team. For handling the cinematography, Priyadarshan has got the National award winning Tirru on board. The movie has been planned to go on floors on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1). Dulquer Salmaan is a busy actor in Kollywood these days. He is currently shooting for Kannum ‘Kannum Kollai Adithaal’ (KKKA), a romantic entertainer, directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy. As reported by us earlier, he has also signed for a movie with debutant Ra Karthik. Today, on the holy occasion of Eid, Dulquer has unveiled the title of his movie with Ra Karthik.

The movie touted to be a romantic travelogue has been titled as Vaan. The title poster is beautifully designed with a misty snow filled mountain in the background. Dulquer’s Facebook post reads,

And as an eid special would love to share with you this special first look poster for a special film I’m going to start this year. Directed by Ra Karthik and produced by J Selvakumar under the banner Kenanya Films the movie will be shot by my close friend George C Williams ! It’s a lovely film and something I’m very excited about! Once again Eid Mubarak everyone !

We had earlier reported that Asif Ali is teaming up with his ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’ director Rohit VS for a new film titled ‘Iblis’. Today, on the holy occasion of Eid, the makers have released the movie’s first look poster in social medias. Asif Ali and Madonna Sebastian feature in this interestingly designed poster which gives vibes of a colorful fantasy entertainer.

According to the makers, Iblis is a musical comedy on the lines of Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos. Sameer Abdul, the co-writer of Adventures of Omanakuttan has penned Iblis jointly with Rohit. It is a musical-adventure, something which has rarely been attempted in the grounds of Malayalam cinema. The characters of this film will be extremely animated and are almost caricaturist in their emotions and body language.

Iblis has four lead characters played by Asif Ali, Madonna Sebastian, Lal and National award winning child actor Master Adish Praveen. The supporting cast includes Konapri, Siddique, Sreenath Bhasi, Saiju Kurup and Aju Varghese. Akhil George is the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed is handling the edits. Dawn Vincent has been signed as the music director.

Iblis is being funded by Ichais productions and will be released through Asif Ali’s own banner Adam’s World of Imagination. Along with the first look, the makers have also announced that the movie will hit screens on August 3.

As informed earlier by us, the title and first look of Mohanlal’s upcoming movie with Ranjith has been released today as an Eid special. The movie has been titled as ‘Drama’ and the first look gives the feel of a royal wedding with a chariot and couple of high end cars. Interestingly, the makers had filmed the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which was held in UK last month.

Drama is currently in the final stages of shoot. Most of the portions have already been shot in UK and is expected to hit screens this coming Onam. This project was a hastily planned one. Ranjith’s initial plan was to direct a romantic flick titled Bilathikadha. Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj and Anu Sithara were supposed to play lead roles in the movie with an extended cameo by Mohanlal. However, due to some unknown reasons, the project got dropped and Ranjith worked on a new script with Mohanlal as the lead. The actor managed to squeeze in 30 days from his busy schedule for the movie.

Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Subi Suresh, Niranj, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom, Baiju and Mythili are part of this upcoming movie’s supporting cast. Veteran Azhagappan is the cinematographer. MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing the movie under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions.

Tovino Thomas has a slew of releases coming up in the second half of the year. One of the most exciting among them is Oru Kuprasidha Payyan directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Madhupal. Dubbing works for the movie were completed only recently and the makers have released a teaser today as an Eid gift.

As the title suggests, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan comes under the genre of a thriller. Reportedly, it is a murder mystery with a completely commercial pacakge. The movie is scripted by newcomer Jeevan Job Thomas. Anu Sithara and Nimisha Sajayan of ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ and ‘Eeda’ fame play the two female leads.

The cast of Oru Kuprasidha Payyan also has a strong line up of supporting actors which includes Tamil actress Saranya Ponvannan, ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ fame Lijomol Jose, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, producer Suresh Kumar, Dileesh Pothan, Sujith Sankar, Pasupathi, Alencier Ley, Sudeer Karamana, Saiju Kurup and Balu Varghese among others.

Noushad Shereef is the cinematographer and veteran composer Ouseppachan is handling the music department. The movie is being produced under the banner of V Cinemas. Madhupal has previously helmed two films – Thalappavu and Ozhimuri. Both the movies were widely acclaimed and won numerous accolades at the regional and international level. So, the Malayali audience are eagerly looking forward to the release of Oru Kuprasidha Payyan.
