Check out the latest location stills of Prithviraj’s upcoming movie Nine!

Prithviraj’s science-fiction thriller titled ‘9’ aka ‘Nine’ went on floors on April 9 near Pala. Ace filmmaker Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohamed is directing this movie, touted to be an ambitious science-fiction thriller. Shoot is currently progressing in Pala and around Kuttikanam region. The team will soon be heading to Ernakulam. Trivandrum and Manali are the other major locations.

Nine is Jenuse Mohamed’s second film after he made an impressive debut with the Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘100 Days of Love’. Nine is probably the first of its kind science fiction film in Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj is said to be playing a scientist in this movie, the story of which happens over nine days. Parvathy and Nithya Menen are being considered for the two female leads but an official word has not yet been given.

The technical crew includes cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, well known for his works in films like ‘Amen’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthirameenukal’, and editor Shameer Muhammed. Shaan Rahman is composing the songs and ‘Da Thadiya’ fame Sekhar Menon has been signed to compose the original music score.

Prithviraj’s newly launched production house Prithviraj Productions is funding this movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

2.0’s 3D team signed for Dileep’s Professor Dinkan!

After finishing his works for Kammara Sambhavam, Dileep recently resumed shooting for his 3D film, Professor Dinkan. The movie directed by veteran cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Ramachandra Babu is an ambitious film made on a lavish budget. Rafi has scripted the movie which has Dileep playing the lead role of a magician.

As per trustworthy reports, the makers of Professor Dinkan have signed the 3D team of 2.0. The Shankar directorial is eagerly awaited by cinephiles across the country as it promises to be a never-before-seen experience for the viewers. 2.0 is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot and released in 3D format. Since, the same technical team is working in Professor Dinkan, Malayali audience can expect a true visual treat.

Director Ramachandra Babu is a veteran who has cranked camera for over 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Arabic and English languages. With such a vast experience behind him, the veteran will be ensuring to deliver the best possible output for his directorial debut.

Professor Dinkan’s story revolves around an ambitious magician whose aim is to astonish the world with a risky magic trick. But one such attempts fails miserably and ends up affecting a lot of people. How he tries to patch up with the people and undo the damage through minor magic tricks forms the plot. Recently, the makers had reworked the script to suit the family audience.

Professor Dinkan is produced by Sanal Thottam under the banner of New TV.

Mammootty is currently busy with the shoot of Oru Kuttanadan Blog. Noted scriptwriter Sethu is turning a director with this movie, tipped to be a rural based fun entertainer. Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim play the three female leads in the movie.

According to latest reports, the multi-talented Vineeth Sreenivasan is playing a cameo role in the movie. Shoot is currently progressing in Alappuzha and after ten days the team will be moving to Ernakulam for the next leg of shoot. A brief schedule is also planned in London. If reports are to be believed, Vineeth Sreenivasan will be joining the team in the London schedule.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog has Mammootty playing Hari, who settles in his hometown after some years of NRI life. The movie’s core plot is set in a fictional village named Krishnapuram. The story is narrated interestingly through various episodes of a blog. Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jacob Gregory, Jude Anthany Joseph, Sanju Sivaram and Adil Ibrahim form the movie’s supporting cast.

Pradeep Nair is the cinematographer and ‘Idea Star Singer’ fame Sreenath Sivasankaran is debuting as a composer with this movie. It is being produced by Muraleedharan and Santha Muraleedharan under the banner of Anantha Vision.

The extremely talented Karthik Subbaraj is constantly in the process of trying out new things. After making path-breaking movies like Pizza, Jigarthanda and Iraivi, the young filmmaker is back with yet another unique attempt. His next titled ‘Mercury’ is a silent film starring Prabhu Deva and a bunch of newcomers in the lead.

The movie’s trailer was released last day in social medias by AR Rahman, Dulquer Salmaan, Rakshit Shetty and Nithiin through their respective social media handles. The trailer was supposed to release last week but had to be pushed due to TFPC’s strike. Earlier, South Indian stars like Rana Daggubati, Nivin Pauly, Dhanush and Rakshit Shetty had come together for the movie’s teaser release.

Mercury is a daring attempt from Karthik Subbaraj as the movie has no dialogues. A silent film is being made in Indian cinema after a gap of three long decades and expectations are on the higher side.

Sharing the trailer on his Facebook page last day, Dulquer wrote,

Wishing Prabhu Deva Sir, Karthik Subbaraj, Editor Vivek Harshan and everyone else involved with “Mercury” the very best for release. Being a silent film it is a no language film and people all over should give it a watch ! I’m a huge fan of Pushpak and this is something that’s being attempted after such a long time. I’m very excited to watch it ! (sic)

Apart from Prabhudeva, the movie also stars Sanath, ‘Meyaadha Maan’ fame Indhuja, Deepak, Paramesh, Shashank Purushotham and Anish Padamanabhan. The technical crew includes acclaimed cinematographer Tirru, composer Santhosh Narayanan and editor Vivek Harshan. The movie is slated for release on April 13, but it is still uncertain if the film would release in Tamil Nadu due to the ongoing strike.

Mahanati, the upcoming biopic on yesteryear actress Savitri, is one of the most awaited movies in Telugu cinema this year. Nag Ashwin is directing the movie which has Keerthy Suresh playing the legendary actress. Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha, ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Vijay Devarakonda, Naga Chaitanya, Rajendra Prasad, Mohan Babu, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj are also part of the cast.

As we had earlier reported, Dulquer, who is making his Telugu debut, is playing Gemini Ganesan while Naga Chaitanya is said to be playing his real-life grand father Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) in the movie. Prakash Raj is essaying the role of popular Telugu cinema producer Chakrapani. Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda will be seen as journalists in the movie.

The character posters of Samantha and Vijay Deverakonda were released recently. While Samantha plays Madhuravani, Deverakonda’s character has been named as Vijay Antony. They both sport retro looks since their portions are set in the 80s. Mahanati’s story evolves as the two set out to piece together the story of Savithri’s life.

The movie will trace the late actress’ life from the 1940s to 1980s and will feature those films she has acted with NT Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageshwara Rao and other legends from the Telugu and Tamil film industry. Savitri was briefly married to Gemini Ganesan and the movie will also show some lesser known details about their relationship.

Since Savitri was hugely popular in all the southern film industries, the makers have planned the movie as a bilingual. The Tamil version is titled as ‘Nadigayar Thilagam’. The movie produced by Vyjayanthi Movies is slated to hit screens worldwide on May 9.

Suraj Venjaramoodu’s next outing as a lead actor, ‘Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri’, is gearing up for release. The movie directed by Jean Markose of ‘Angels’ fame has Suraj playing the role of Kuttanpilla, a senior police constable. Joselet Joseph has scripted this movie as a family drama.

The movie has Suraj playing the role of Plachottil Kuttan Pillai, a 58-year-old police constable. The plot is centred around a series of events that happen in Kuttan Pillai’s house when his relatives – his children, their spouses and extended family – converge at his humble home to attend the annual Shiva Rathri festival.

Biju Sopanam of ‘Uppum Mulakum’ fame and Srinda play a couple in the movie. Their character posters were released recently by the makers through their Facebook page. Srinda plays the role of Rejani while Biju’s character is named Suneesh. Both the actors are known for their comic timing and it will be interesting to see how they present their natural humour skills in Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri.

The movie also has Mithun Ramesh, Srikant Murali, Kochu Preman, Poojappura Radhakrishnan, Rajesh Manarkad and James Eliyas in supporting roles. Fazil Nazer has handled the cinematography and Shibish K Chandran is in charge of the edits. The movie marks the debut of playback singer Sayanora Philip as a music director.

Raji Nandakumar is producing Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri under the banner of Alanghat Productions.

Mammootty’s Uncle is an eagerly awaited movie, getting ready for release next month. Actor Joy Mathew has scripted this movie, which marks the directorial debut of Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and Padmakumar. As informed earlier, the official teaser of Uncle was released today in social medias.

Uncle is Joy Mathew’s second outing as a scriptwriter after the critically acclaimed ‘Shutter’. Just like his previous movie, Uncle is also said to be a socially relevant film. It is the story of a 17-year-old girl and her dad’s friend. CIA fame Karthika Muraleedharan and Mammootty play these two lead roles in the movie.

Apparently, the core plot is set in the journey of Mammootty’s character Krishnakumar aka KK from Ooty to Kozhikode. He is accompanied by his friend’s daugther in this trip. It is about an unusual situation a middle class family is made to face. The social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in the movie.

Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether in the movie. He is sporting a salt and pepper bearded look for his character, which is said to be a grey shaded one. Expectations are high for this movie among the audience as Mammootty is playing such a performance-oriented character after a long while.

Uncle also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, KPAC Lalitha, Sheela and Muthumani in supporting roles. Its technical crew includes veteran cinematographer Azhagappan, composer Bijibal and editor Shameer Muhammed.

Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films. In a casual interaction with his followers in Facebook last day, Joy Mathew revealed that Uncle will hit screens on April 27 but an official confirmation is still awaited.

The highly anticipated Kammara Sambhavam is gearing up to hit screens this Saturday (April 14). Murali Gopy has scripted this movie which marks the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Rathish Ambat. It is an epic film set in three different timelines. Dileep and popular South Indian actor Siddharth play the lead roles in the movie which focuses on historical accounts and how it is depicted by the ones who wrote it.

As informed earlier, the makers have released the first song video from the movie. Gopi Sunder has composed this song titled ‘Njano Raavo’. Namitha Pramod, who plays the female lead, features in the video.

The movie also has Murali Gopy, Bobby Simha, Shweta Menon, Siddique, Indrans and Vijayaraghavan as part of the supporting cast. The recently released teaser of the movie is nearing a whopping 3 million views and is still trending in social medias.

It is already known that Rajinikanth’s next film after Kaala is with the extremely talented Karthik Subbaraj. Sun Pictures is producing this high profile project. Ever since its announcement, there have been a lot of speculations about the cast. Vijay Sethupathi was said to be considered for the villain’s role but there were no further talks on that.

Latest buzz is that Karthik Subbaraj is planning to get Bollywood actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, to play the villain opposite Rajinikanth. Reportedly, Karthik who was in Mumbai recently for the promotions of his upcoming silent film ‘Mercury’, had met Nawazzudin and narrated the script to him. The director had earlier expressed his wish to work with him in a Twitter interaction after the release of Raman Raghav 2.O.

It will be really huge if Nawazzudin hops on board as the audience will get to see two powerhouse of talents locking horns. An official word regarding the same is expected to be made in the coming weeks. Interestingly, the antagonists in Rajinikanth’s last two films – 2.O and Kaala – are also from Bollywood. While Akshay Kumar plays an evil scientist in 2.O, veteran Nana Patekar will be seen as a cunning politician in Kaala.

So far only Anirudh has been confirmed to be part of this upcoming biggie. This is his first film with both Karthik and Rajinikanth, so the young composer will be trying to deliver his best possible work. Shoot for this yet-to-be titled movie will be commencing by June and the makers have planned to wrap it up this year itself.

Director clarifies on talks about Suriya playing Mammootty’s son in Yatra!

The YSR biopic ‘Yatra’ starring Malayalam superstar Mammootty is the latest talk in social medias. The makers had released the first look poster last day which is still trending virally. Mahi Raghav, who has made hit movies like Paathshala and Anando Brahma is directing this movie. While Mammootty has been confirmed for YSR’s role, the makers are still on the look for actors to play other crucial roles.

There is a buzz going around in social medias that Suriya is being considered for the role of YSR’s son, 
YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who is the opposition leader in AP assembly currently. However, director Mahi Raghav has confirmed that they haven’t approached him yet but was quick to add that they would love to have Suriya on board. As of now only Mammootty and Telugu actor Posani Krishna are confirmed. The latter will be playing a fictional but a very prominent role in the movie.

YS Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR, is one of the most iconic politicians that Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. According to the makers, Yatra is an event-based film which primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s three-month-long padayatra in 2003. The padayatra was a defining moment in his career which transformed him into a people’s leader.

YSR died in an air crash in 2009 after the helicopter carrying him crashed in a dense forest. He was so popular that hundreds of his followers committed suicide upon hearing his death. This upcoming biopic will showcase some of the important aspects of his life and his political journey. 

Yatra officially commenced last day (April 9) and will have a three month long schedule. The movie is being produced jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi under the banner of 70mm Entertainments.
