Kecha Khamphakdee to choreograph some stunning Kalaripayattu stunts in Mamankam!
Mamankam is one of the most hyped Malayalam movies in recent years. The movie marks the directorial debut of Sajeev Pillai, who is a former associate of Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Sajeev has scripted the movie after doing research works for nearly 12 years. Mammootty plays a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.
Since it is a spectacle-heavy movie, the makers have signed some of the best available technicians in the country. Renowned action choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee is handling the stunts. He is popular for his works in movies like Thuppakki, Bhaagi, Vishwaroopam, Aarambam, Billa 2 etc. The makers of Mamankam have informed that Kecha will be choreographing some never-before-seen kind of Kalaripayattu fights for the movie.
Mamankam is a medieval fair which was held every 12 years from 800 AD to 1755 AD. The festival was held on the banks of Bharathapuzha in Tirunava where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty as a ‘chaaver’ will be performing a lot of risky stunt in the movie.
Mamankam is a very ambitious project made on a grand scale. Some leading stars from other industries will be part of the movie. The female lead’s part will be played by a Bollywood actress while a young star from Tamil industry will be seen as the second hero. Neeraj Madhav, ‘Queen’ fame Dhruv, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already part of the supporting cast.
VFX works in Mamankam is handled by RC Kamala Kannan, who has worked in several big projects in South Indian cinema. Ganesh Rajavelu is the cinematographer and veteran M Jayachandran has been signed as the composer. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is funding this big budget movie. A brief first schedule was wrapped up last month. Full fledged shoot will begin only by May.
