After the success of ‘Ramaleela’, director Arun Gopy is directing Pranav Mohanlal next. Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films. This upcoming movie is said to be an romantic-action entertainer.

The makers had informed that a debutante will be cast as Pranav’s heroine in the movie. They have now released a casting call for aspirants from Dubai. The auditions will be held on March 23 and 24. Those who wish to take part in the auditions are asked to register in the website hit967.ae and submit a one minute video showcasing their talent. Dates for India auditions will be announced shortly.

Arun Gopy meanwhile is finalizing the crew for the movie. He is also debuting as a scriptwriter and expectations are massive among the audience. Official announcement with the title and details regarding the full cast and crew is expected to be made very soon. It is reported that the movie will start rolling in Kochi by July. Apparently, the team is planning to wrap up the shoot by November to ensure a grand release for Christmas.

Suriya started the year on a high with the success of Thaana Serntha Koottam (TSK). The movie directed by Vignesh Shivan was released during the Pongal season January and emerged as a big success at the box office. As a token of appreciation for the movie’s success, Suriya presented a brand new luxury Toyota car to Vignesh Shivan. The director shared the happy news with his followers in Twitter and thanked Suriya for the kind gesture.

This is not the first time Suriya is doing such a gesture. He had earlier gifted a Toyota Fortuner to Hari after the release of Singam 3. Tamil cinema’s other top stars like Vijay and Ajith have also presented their directors and colleagues with valuable gifts.

Earlier in a couple of interviews, Suriya had opened up about how he was impressed with Vignesh Shivan’s style of filmmaking. The youngster knows the pulse of the audience very well and delivers accordingly. Even though Thaana Serntha was the remake of Special 26, it was not a scene-by-scene remake as Vignesh Shivan reworked the script to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. He brought in the unemployment angle and some mass elements to present it as a colorful festive entertainer. Critically also TSK managed to get good reviews with most of them praising the director for bringing back the good old charming Suriya.

Vignesh Shivan is currently working on the script for his upcoming movie with Sivakarthikeyan. KE Gnanavel Raja will be producing this movie, which is expected to commence once Sivakarthikeyan is done with his other commitments.

The biggest movie in Dileep’s career, Kammaara Sambhavam is nearing completion. Post-production works are progressing at a brisk and the movie is expected to hit screens next month as a grand Vishu release. Ad filmmaker Rathish Ambat is making his directorial debut with this movie.

Kammaara Sambhavam, scripted by Murali Gopy is an epic film set in three different timelines. The movie focuses on historical accounts and how it is depicted by the ones who wrote it. The movie has Siddharth, Murali Gopy and Namitha Pramod in other lear roles.

Dileep appears in three different looks in the movie. The actor was recently seen sporting a 90-year-old look during the final leg of shoot. For the makeup alone, the he had to spend over five hours everyday prior to shoot. Talks within the industry suggest that Kammaara Sambhavam has Dileep’s career best role.

While Dileep plays Kammaran, Siddharth, who is making his Malayalam debut, plays the role of Othenan Nambiar. Both the actors will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. Murali Gopy’s character is named Malayil Kelu Nambiar. The movie also stars National award winner Bobby Simha, Shwetha Menon, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, Siddique, Vinay Forrt and Sudheer Karamana.

The technical crew includes cinematographer Sunil KS, editor Suresh, composer Gopi Sunder and sound designer Resul Pookkutty. Gokulam Gopalan is funding this big budget movie under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s Indian 2 to start rolling in Hyderabad

As we had already reported, ace filmmaker Shankar is reuniting with Kamal Haasan after two decades for the sequel of their 1996 classic film, Indian. The movie has been in the pre-production phase for a while now. As per latest reports, set works for the movie will begin soon at Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. Shoot is expected to commence in the film city very soon.

Director Shankar is currently busy finalizing the cast and crew of the film. He was recently in Taiwan for location scouting. Nayanthara is reportedly the top contender for the female lead and Anirudh might compose the music. Ace cinematographer Ravi Varman and art director T Muthuraj are already confirmed in the technical crew.

Unlike Shankar’s other recent films, Indian 2 will not have much VFX or CG works, so they are planning to release the movie by mid-2019 itself. The movie will have Kamal Haasan reprising the role of vigilante Senapathi. His stellar performance in a dual role in Indian, which was released back in 1996, won him his third National award. The movie was also India’s official submission for the Academy Award for best foreign language film that year.

Expectations are huge when Shankar and Kamal Haasan team up for the sequel of a cult-classic like Indian. Leading Telugu producer Dil Raju of Sri Venkateswara Creations was initially supposed to fund this project but later opted out citing heavy production cost. Lyca Productions have now taken up the movie.

Vikram Vedha Hindi remake officially announced!

Vikram Vedha is one of the most talked about Tamil movies in recent years. The movie starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles was released in July last year and went on to become a huge success. Apart from doing great business, the movie also won rave reviews from the critics. Pushkar-Gayathri duo directed the movie and was produced by Y Not Studios.

Ever since the release of Vikram Vedha, there have been constant reports about it getting remade in other languages. Medias even reported that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his interest to remake the movie in Hindi. Venkatesh and Rana’s names were said for the Telugu version. But the makers had dismissed all that as baseless.

Finally, they have come up with an official statement about the Hindi remake. Y Not Studios are joining hands with Anil D Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment and Neeraj Pandey’s Plan C Studios for remaking the movie in Hindi. Pushkar and Gayathri will be directing the Hindi version as well, cast of which will be officially announced later.

Vikram Vedha is inspired from the popular folklore Vikram Betal. The basic concept is borrowed from there and placed in an engaging cat and mouse game between a police officer and a gangster. Madhavan played the tough cop Vikram and Vijay Sethupathy essayed the role of Vedha, a gangster with grey shades. Both the actors won widespread appreciation for their fabulous perfomance. It will be nothing but a challenging task for the makers of the Hindi version to live up to the original. Stay tuned for more updates.

Asif Ali to reunite with ‘Avarude Raavukal’ director Shanil Muhammed

Of late, Asif Ali has mostly chose to work with his bunch of friends and most of them have proved successful. The actor currently has a handful of promising projects in the pipeline. If reports are to be believed, Asif has signed for a new film with director Shanil Muhammed, with whom he worked last year in ‘Avarude Raavukal’.

Midhun Manuel Thomas of ‘Aadu’ fame is scripting the movie. Interestingly, this is the first time Midhun is scripting for another director ever since he made his debut in 2015 with Aadu. Before that he scripted the Nivin Pauly- Nazriya starrer ‘Om Shanthi Oshana’, which was directed by Jude Anthany Joseph.

Shanil Muhammed’s upcoming movie with Asif is said to be a fun entertainer. The director made a highly promising start with ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’, which he co-directed with Rojin Thomas. His last outing ‘Avarude Raavukal’ was a rom-com starring Asif Ali, Unni Mukundan and Vinay Forrt in the lead roles. Upon release, it garnered mixed reviews and didn’t fare well at the box office.

Shanil Muhammed will be hoping to come up with a much better film this time. Asif meanwhile has B Tech gearing up for release. Mridul Nair, a former associate of VK Prakash is making his directorial debut with this movie. He also has Mandaram, Iblis and Vijay Superum Paurnamiyum coming up this year.

It’s raining sequels for Mammootty!

Megastar Mammootty is busy as ever with a bunch of projects lined up in his kitty. If reports are to be believed he has already signed for around ten projects. Three out of them – Raja 2, Bilal and Kottayam Kunjachan 2 – are sequels or spin-offs from his own hit films. All these three movies are still in their early stages but fans just cannot wait to watch them on screen.

Raja 2 was the first to be announced. It is actually a spin-off on Mammootty’s character Raja from the 2010 hit flick Pokkiri Raja. Vysakh, who made his directorial debut with Pokkiri Raja, will be helming the spin-off as well. Udhayakrishna is scripting this movie. The movie was announced made last year but since there were no further developments, many presumed that the project got shelved. But the makers recently confirmed that the project is definitely happening. Tomichan Mulakupadam will be producing the movie.

Last November, director Amal Neerad made a huge announcement that triggered a storm in social medias. A second part to the cult hit Big B is in the offing. It is not yet known if the movie, titled as Bilal, will be a prequel or sequel to Big B. Though Big B was not a box office hit, it eventually attained a cult status among the Malayali audience. It is widely regarded as one of the most stylish Malayalam films of all-time. Mammootty’s restrained and subtle performance as the stylish gangster Bilal was the USP of the movie. Fans as well as the common audience have pinned huge hopes on the movie.

Kottayam Kunjachan is another Mammootty starrer that is getting a sequel. Midhun Manuel Thomas of ‘Aadu’ fame will be directing the movie and Vijay Babu will be producing it under the banner of Friday Film House. The first part, released back in 1990, was directed by TS Suresh Babu. Mammootty aced it with his act as Kunjachan, a Kottayam based ruffian. Kunjachan is one of his most loved characters of all-time. His looks, the Kottayam dialect and the foul-mouthed dialogues went on to become hugely popular. The character enjoys an iconic status among the Malayalis. It will be challenging for Midhun Maneul Thomas to bring back the old Kunjachan on-screen, let’s hope he succeeds in it.

After the successful Shikkari Shambu, Kunchacko Boban is back with another fun entertainer in Kuttanadan Marpappa. Cinematographer Sreejith Vijay makes his directorial debut with this movie. Kunchacko Boban plays John, a photographer while Aditi Ravi of ‘Alamara’ and ‘Aadhi’ fame plays his romantic interest. Yesteryear actress Shanthi Krishna is playing a crucial role as Kunchacko Boban’s mother in the movie.

As per latest reports, the movie is gearing up for release on March 23. The summer vacation kick-starts by this time and the makers will be hoping to cash in on that. Since it is a fun filled entertainer, family audiences are expected to flock the theatres in good numbers.

Kuttanadan Marpappa has an all-fun gang comprising of Hareesh Kanaran, Ramesh Pisharody, Soubin Shahir, Dharamjan, Aju Varghese, Salim Kumar, Innocent and Tiny Tom as part of the supporting cast. With so many comedy actors on board, the movie promsies to be a laugh riot.

Kuttanadan Marpappa is jointly funded by Haseeb Haneef, Noushad Alathur and Aji Medayil. Arvind Krishna is the cinematographer and Rahul Raj is handling the music department. The movie will be presented under the banners of Malayalam Movie Makers and Grande Film Corporation.

As we had earlier reported, Mahanati, the biopic on yesteryear actress Savithri, is nearing its final stages of shoot. Nag Ashwin is directing this movie which has Keerthy Suresh playing the legendary actress. Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha, Vijay Devarakonda, Naga Chaitanya, Rajendra Prasad, Mohan Babu, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj are also part of the cast.

Mahanati marks Dulquer’s debut in Telugu cinema. He is playing the late Gemini Ganesan’s role in the movie. Recently, a fan made still featuring Dulquer and Savithri have gone viral in social medias. Vineeth Joshy, presumably one of Dulquer’s fans has designed the photo. Both Keerthy and Dulquer look exactly like Savitri and Gemini Ganesan.

Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda play journalists in the movie. The story evolves as the two set out to piece together the story of Savithri’s life. Savithri was briefly married to Gemini Ganesan and the movie will show some lesser known deatils about their relationship. Dulquer is playing the different phases of Gemini Ganesan in the movie. For that he will be seen sporting multiple looks.

Naga Chaitanya is playing his grand father Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) in the movie. The makers had initially planned to recreate ANR’s portions using CG. But, Naga Chaitanya has now come forward and has alloted two days out of his busy schedule for shoot. The makers are also in talks with Anushka Shetty for playing role of actress Bhanumathi.

Mahanati is being produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. The movie is being made simultaneously in Tamil as ‘Nadigayar Thilagam’. A dubbed version in Malayalam is also in the planning.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Hindi film Zoya Factor to start rolling in August

Dulquer Salmaan has been gradually trying to expand his wings outside Malayalam cinema. He is currently shooting for a Tamil film titled ‘Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal’. His Hindi debut ‘Karwaan’ is due for release in June and his Telugu film ‘Mahanati’ is slated to hit screens later this year.

Last day, the announcement of his second Hindi film ‘Zoya Factor’ was made through social medias. Dulquer and Sonam Kapoor are teaming up for the big screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 best seller novel of the same name.

The novel is centred around Zoya Singh Solanki, a PR executive. Zoya was born on the exact moment when Indian cricket team had lifted the 1983 World Cup. She is considered as a lucky charm by the Indian team and media. While everyone consider her lucky, team’s captain Nikhil Khoda and Zoya are always at loggerheads. The former doesn’t believe in luck and relies on performance. Zoya keeps clashing with the Indian skipper, and what follows is a love-hate relationship.

Sonam Kapoor will be playing the role of Zoya while Dulquer Salmaan essyas captain Nikhil Khoda’s role. Reportedly, Dulquer is planning to take up basic coaching prior to shoot to play the cricketer’s role. The movie is all set to go on floors in August once Dulquer and Sonam Kapoor are done with their prior commitments.

Zoya Factor will be directed by Abhishek Sharma. Fox Star Studios and Adlabs Films are jointly funding the movie which is scheduled as an April release, next year.
