Vijay gets a whopping amount as remuneration for Mersal

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is one of the most popular actors in South Indian cinema. His popularity is not just limited to his home state Tamil Nadu. He enjoys a massive fan base across the world especially among the South Indian movie watching audience. On most occassions, Vijay’s films generate great business and hence he is one of the most sought after actors in the industry.

Naturally, Vijay is also one of the highest paid actors in the South. If reports are to be believed, Vijay has got a whopping amount of Rs 35 cores as remuneration for his upcoming movie Mersal. This Atlee directorial is one of the most awaited films of the year. Vijay-Atlee duo’s last outing Theri, released last year, had emerged as an all-time blockbuster doing an overall business of over 100 crores.

If reports are to be believed, the satellite rights of Mersal has already been bagged by Zee TV for a massive Rs 30 crores. Vijay enjoys huge popularity among the family audience and hence the deal for such a big amount comes as no big surprise. To cash in on Vijay’s increasing popularity in the Telugu speaking states, the makers are also dubbing the movie and the Telugu version has been titled as Adirindhi.

Mersal is special for many reasons. It is the 100th venture of the famous banner Sri Thenandal Films. Vijay is playing a triple role for the first time in his two decade long career.

Academy award winner AR Rahman is composing for a Vijay after a gap of 10 long years. Samantha, Nithya Menen and Kajal Agarwal play the female leads. SJ Suryah is reportedly playing the antagonist and Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Saral and manh others are also part of the cast.

The makers are organizing a grand audio launch function on August 20. The movie is scheduled to hit screens worldwide in October, for this year’s Diwali.

The first schedule of Pranav Mohanlal’s Aadhi was recently wrapped up in Ernakulam. The second leg of shoot is currently underway in Bangalore. Jeethu Joseph is directing this movie, tipped to be an action-revenge-thriller. Aadhi is said to be a movie which lies on similar lines to Jeethu Joseph’s superhit movie Memories.

Recently, some photos from Aadhi’s location were released and has been trending ever since then in social medias. Aditi Ravi, who was noted for her performance in her debut film Alamara is playing a prominent role in Aadhi. Pranav has no romantic interest in the movie as there is no separate love track.

All the characters that appear in the movie will have a particular space that offers good scope for performance. Anusree, Lena, Siju Wilson, Sharafudheen, Tony Luke, Siddique and Nobi are also part of the cast.

Since the movie involves a lot of action sequences, Pranav was undergoing training in Parkour for the past few months. It is a kind of acrobatic training that involves crossing obstacles by running, climbing, jumping, rolling and swinging.


Anil Johnson, a regular in Jeethu Joseph films, is composing the music and Ayoob Khan is handling the edits in Aadhi. Antony Perumbavoor is producing this movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Fahadh Faasil-Mamta Mohandas duo’s Carbon to start rolling next week

Fahadh Faasil is having a jam-packed year with multiple projects in his kitty. The actor recently wrapped the first schedule of Anwar Rasheed’s Trance in Kanyakumari. His next with cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu will go on floors this coming Monday (August 21). The movie titled as Carbon has Fahadh paired opposite Mamta Mohandas for the first time in his career.

Director Venu has assembled a set of renowned technicians to work in this movie. Vishal Bharadwaj, one of Bollywood’s leading directors and composer is handling the music department in Carbon. KU Mohanan, known for his works in films like Raees, Don etc has been roped in to crank the camera. Venu’s wife Beena Paul, a National award winner will be editing the movie.

Carbon is tipped to be a suspense thriller, set in the backdrop of forests. As per reports, the movie will discuss about the climate change and it’s consequences. Fahadh is playing the role of Sibi, a rustic youth in the movie. Soubin Shahir, Sharafudheen, Manikandan Achari, Dileesh Pothan, Ashokan, Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Kochu Preman, Master Chetan Lal and Lena are also part of the supporting cast.

Similar to Venu’s last directorial Munnariyippu, everything about Carbon will be realistic; sync sound will also be used to enhance the authenticity. The movie is being produced jointly by Sibi Thottapuram and Navees Xavier under the banner of Poultry Films.

Mohanlal’s Villain has been in the making for sometime now. Earlier, there were reports about the movie releasing for Onam but the makers had denied that. Shoot was completed two months back itself and the team is currently busy with the post production works.

Last day, director B Unnikrishnan took to his Facebook page to inform that the movie’s much awaited trailer will be screened along with the Onam releases in theatres. Mohanlal recently completed the remaining dubbing portions and will soon head to Bhutan for a short vacation before joining the Odiyan team in Varanasi.

There is a huge hype surrounding Villain as the movie boasts of some names from various film industries.

Vishal, Hansika, Srikanth, Raashi Khanna and Manju Warrier are playing prominent roles in the movie. The makers are eyeing to release the movie in 3 languages simultaneously. Presumably, the movie will be released in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages.

Villain is a crime thriller in which Mohanlal will be seen as Mathew Manjooran, a police officer. Manju Warrier is playing his wife’s role in the movie. This movie funded by Rockline Films is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot completely and released in 8K resolution.

Villain’s songs are composed by Oppam fame 4 Musics and background score is handled by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam. Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekambaram have wielded the camera. Shameer Mohammed of Charlie and Angamaly Diaries fame is in charge of the editing department. The movie is expected to hit screens during the Pooja holidays.

Mohanlal starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam is getting ready for a wide release this Onam season and the makers are busy with the final patch up works. Few weeks back the first single track ‘Jimikki Kammal’ was released. This peppy number composed by Shaan Rahman became an instant hit among the listeners.

Last day, the video of this song was released and within a few hours it has clocked lakhs of views. It is a fun campus song featuring a set of youngsters including Angamaly Diaries fame Sarath Kumar, Jude Anthany Joseph and Aanandam fame Arun Kurian among others.

Mohanlal makes an entry towards the end of the vidoe riding a bicycle. The video has fetched over five lakh views and it is quite sensational considering the reach of Malayalam songs. Vineeth Sreenivasan and Renjith Unni have sung this song penned by Anil Panachooran.

Velipadinte Pusthakam is directed by Lal Jose and written by Benny P Nayarambalam. Mohanlal appears in two different looks in the film; one as a college professor Mathew Idicula and the other as a goon hailing from the coastal area.

Angamaly Diaries fame Anna Reshma Rajan is playing the female lead. Anoop Menon, Priyanka Nair, Siddique, Salim Kumar, Alencier Ley Lopez and many other supporting actors are also part of the cast. Last day, director Basil Joseph made a huge announcement about his next project. His upcoming movie is scripted by noted writer Unni R and will have Mammootty and Tovino in the lead roles. This is Basil’s second successive film with Tovino after the super hit Godha.

According to latest reports, this upcoming movie will be a big budget venture. It is a fun-travel adventure subject that will be mostly shot in different parts of the world. E4 Entertainment, one of the leading banners in Mollywood is funding this movie jointly with AVA Productions.

The makers are yet to finalize on the rest of the cast and crew details. This yet-to-be-titled movie will go on floors only by September next year after the lead actors are free from their prior commitments.

Unni R, who is also a short story writer, is noted for handling intense subjects. This upcoming movie will be a refreshing change for the audience. He has previously worked with Mammootty in the widely acclaimed Munnariyippu. Tovino has also played a short cameo role in Charlie, which won Unni R his first Kerala State Award.

Basil Joseph is one of the most promising directors of this generation in Mollywood. Both his films – Kunjiramayanam and Godha were commercially successful. The 27-year-old talented filmmaker will be looking forward to continue the rich form.

Mammootty’s next release is Shyam Dhar’s Pullikkaran Staraa, gearing to hit screens this Onam. He also has Masterpiece, Parole, Streetlights and Peranbu waiting in the pipeline. Malayalam cinema is going through a tremendous phase currently. The industry has found the perfect equilibrium between content-based quality films and hero-centric commercial entertainers. Fresh talents are knocking the doors of the industry every Friday and are being welcomed gleefully by the Malayali audience. The role of a good production house in the overall growth of a film industry is immeasurable.

E4 Entertainment is one such a production company known for introducing many young talents and backing experimental themes. The banner has some highly exciting projects lined up for the 2017-18 season. On the auspicious first day of Chingam, the Malayali new year, E4 Entertainment have released the list of projects in their kitty.

Noted writer Unni R’s next movie titled as Prathi Poovankozhi will be the first to go on floors. Nee Ko Njaa Chaa fame Gireesh Mano will be directing this movie. The cast includes a leading star along with a bunch of other young talents. The movie is said to be a hard hitting political satire. Shoot for the movie will commence in November and is eyeing a February release next year.

Second to go on floors will be a Tovino Thomas starrer. Debutant Jeo Baby is directing this movie, which is tipped to be an unique love story. A sensational foreign actress will be playing the female lead in this movie. Newbie Deepu Pradeep is scripting this yet-to-be-titled movie. Shaan Rahman will be handling the music department and Godha fame Vishnu Sharma has been roped in to crank the camera. Shoot for this movie will start in December and is scheduled to hit screens in May next year.

The third project under E4 Entertainment’s banner is a bigge. Megastar Mammootty and Tovino Thomas will be teaming up for the first time with this upcoming movie directed by Basil Joseph of Kunjiramayanam and Godha fame. Unni R, noted for his scripts like Munnariyippu and Charlie, is penning this movie. It is said to be a fun adventure action film. They are planning it as a festive release next year, most probably during the Onam season.

Their fourth film is again a Tovino starrer, which is to be directed by debutant Anuraj Manohar. Ratheesh Revi is scripting this movie which is based on a very relevant social issue.

Another great initiative taken by E4 Entertainment team is the establishment of a newly formed venture E4 Experiment. They are planning to promote young talents by producing movies with newcomers on a moderate budget. Every year, they are planning to produce atleast two films under this banner.

The first film to come out under this banner will be Lilli. Debutant Prasobh Vijayan is helming this project which comprises of a bunch of young talents; both in the cast as well as the crew. Samyukhtha Menon, Aaryan Krishna Menon, Kannan Nayar, Dhanesh Anand and many other freshers are part of the cast. Debutant Sreeraj Raveendran is cranking the camera and Appu Bhattadhari is handling the edits. Shoot for the movie has already been completed and a formal announcement with the unveiling of the first look is expected to be made in the coming days.

On the distribution front, their first venture this season will be Nivin Pauly’s upcoming family entertainer Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela. Premam fame Althaf Salim is debuting as a director with this movie, which is slated for an Onam release on September 1. They are also distributing Tovino Thomas’ first bilingual movie Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum starring Pia Bajpai as the female lead. BR Vijayalakshmi is directing this movie, also scheduled for a September release. In November, they will be releasing Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer Sachin.

Besides this, E4 Entertainment is also teaming up with Rajeev Ravi’s Collective Phase for a couple of interesting projects, that are still in the nascent stages.

Vivegam is a spy thriller directed by Siruthai Siva in which Ajith is tipped to be playing a foreign agent in an anti-terrorist wing. He has undergone a terrific make over for the movie by shedding down a lot of extra pounds.
