Why expectations are high for Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders ?

We had earlier reported that Major Ravi has started shooting for his upcoming movie with Mohanlal as the lead. Shoot for the movie is currently happening in Rajasthan.

Titled 1971 Beyond Borders, this new film is a war movie based on the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.

Expectations are very high on this movie considering Mohanlal’s last few outings.

The actor has conspicuously become more selective after a slump period post Drishyam. Mohanlal could not deliver a genuinely good movie or even a commercial success during this period.

But the actor has now delivered back to back mega hits. He started his comeback with the bilingual Vismayam made in Telugu and Malayalam. He later did Janatha Garage with young superstar Jr NTR. The movie was a massive blockbuster and Mohanlal’s performance was heavily appreciated by the Telugu critics and the audience.

He returned back to Mollywood with Oppam directed by master director Priyadarshan. Oppam was another blockbuster and crossed the prestigious 50 crore mark in the box office collections.

Last month Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan was released during the Pooja holidays. The action packed mass entertainer is now the biggest blockbuster in Malayalam cinema history.

The actor’s next release will be Munthiri Vallikalal Thalirkkumbol directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob. The movie is based on a popular story Pranayopanishad. So expectations are very high for this family entertainer.

At a time when he is going through a great purple patch, signing for a movie with Major Ravi has naturally heightened the expectation levels.

1971 Beyond Borders will have Mohanlal playing a double role. The actor will be playing the character of Major Mahadevan and his father, a soldier who fought for the country during the 1971 war.

This is the fourth time Mohanlal is playing the character of Major Mahadevan after Keerthichakra, Kurukshetra and Kandahar.

Keerthichakra was a very big blockbuster and a critically acclaimed film. Kurukshetra was also a commercial success but Kandahar ended up as a box office disaster. The movie was highly expected because Amitabh Bachchan was also playing an important role.

1971 Beyond Border is a multi starrer made on a big budget. Telugu actor Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh will also be playing pivotal roles in the film.

Shooting spot stills of the movie has Mohanlal sporting the famed twirled mustache get up. These photos are already trending in the social media, further increasing the expectations about the film.
