Nellikka Review
Nellikka, the name itself gives an impetus for viewers to see the film, specially if you are a malayali as the word Nellikka may evoke some sweet as well as bitter memories of your life. Nellikka is one of the last week releases of Mollywood which is the maiden directorial venture of Bijith Bala, who was worked as an editor of more than 30 mollywood films including famous films like Shutter, Chettayees, Apoorva Raagam etc.
It also happened to be the first film of another young man. Yes, the cinematography of the film is done by Kunjunni S Kumar, the son of Famous Cinematographer S Kumar. The main attraction of the film is presence of Atul Kulkarni who is considered as one of the most talented actors in our country and he has been seen in Mollywood after some time. The lyrics for the film is written by Rafeeq Ahammad, Prakash Marara and Santhosh Varma. The music department of the film is handled by Biji Pal. Deepak, Sasi Kumar, Bhagath Manuval, Parveen Sulthana, Mamukkoya, Vishnu Raveendran, Sija Rose, Anjali Aneesh Upasana, RJ Shan etc are in the cast list of the film apart from Atul Kulkarni. The script of the film is written by R Arun and the film is financed by Abdul Rauf Under the banner of A R productions.
The story of the film starts when Balu (played by Deepak) came back to his native place after his studies. He is the son of Hari (Played by Sasi Kumar). Balu’s aim was to rebuild his music band with friends and also to revive his love interest which has long forgotten when he went away for studies. That time his sister Nandana’s (played by Parveen Sulthana) marriage takes lace and his brother in law Satheesh (played by Atul Kulkarni) becomes a great support to Balu to fulfill his dreams. Satheesh arranges bank loan for the revival of Balu’s music band and also helps him to get a job in bank. And while balu was went for a financial deal to help his friend Sandeep (played by Bhagath Manuel), he see something unexpected and he realizes the truth behind what he saw and experienced till that time. From there the film goes through thrilling moments and tells some unexpected truths.
Atul Kulkarni has given a sterling performance as Satheesh and Deepak also done well after his notable performance in Thattathin Marayathu. Bhagath Manuel is also impressed with his different performance. The film has thrilling moments as well as moments which are socially relevant. Just like the title suggests it shows us the sweet as well as bitter aspects in our life and society.

Ranjith-Mohanlal’s team’s Loham begins to get in shape
The most anticipated and awaited movie of the year, its none other than Ranjith and Mohanlal team’s ‘Loham’ has started filming on March 7th at Kozhikode. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the biggest and most successful banner in Mollywood cinema Aashirvad Cinemas. Andrea Jermiah is playing the female lead in this film opposite Mohanlal and it will be for the first time in her career that she is sharing screen space with this legend of Indian Cinema.
Andrea had the fortune to work with Kamala Hasan in Vishwaroopam and Uthama Villain. Now she is on cloud nine as she was chosen as the female lead of Mohanlal who is considered as one of the greatest actor india has ever seen along with Kamal Hasan, Amitabh Bachchan etc. According to reports director V K prakash is also doing a very important role in Loham along with Siddique, Hareesh Peradi and Tini Tom. Young actor and kollywood fame Ajmal Ameer also doing a key role in this film.The film will shoot at kozhikkod and nearby places. The film also has kochi as well as dubai schedules which is relatively short ones compared to Kozhikode schedule.
P M Sasidharan, the Managing Director of Gold coin picture Company has done the switch on function and Public relations chief manager of Mathrubhoomi, KR Pramod is the one who take the clap for the first shot of the film. According to reports the film is telling about Gold smuggling and it will be an action thriller for which Ranjith is a master. It can be say that it will be a comeback of Ranjith to commercial mass films after a series of classy and realistic films which had won great appreciations. Mohanlal will join the sets of the film after the completion of his ongoing shoot of joshiey’s “Laila o laila” which is slated for an April last week release.
When heard about action thriller and Gold smuggling the character comes to the mind of everybody is Sagar Alias Jacky the ultimate gold smuggler and don, the character done by Mohanlal which has got an epic status among audience. When the Blockbuster combo of Mohanlal and Raanjith Coming again with ‘Loham-the yellow metal’ it will be something to watch out for and really we mean it.
Picket 43 Controversy- Chat with Major Ravi
Picket 43 is directed by Prithviraj..?
Another interesting news or may we can call it a controversy is up on air from Mollywood. This time it is around Picket 43 as O G Sunil, the producer of the film Picket 43 said in an interview to RJ Mathukutti (Red FM) that Picket 43 is actually completed by Prithviraj and the DOP Jomon T john. He said that these both were the central pillers of the film and it was due to their effort that the film had received good word of mouth and response at box office.
The events are becoming so confusing and at the same time interesting to say the least. Because it was yesterday that first bomb fell as Liberty Basheer who is the president of the exhibitors federation of Kerala said that Picket 43 (and Fireman as well) is only an average grosser and not to be termed as a hit of this year. The film has got good mouth publicity but that is not materialized into collection.
After that another bomb fell when O G Sunil filed a complaint against Director Major Ravi accusing him to be the reason for the loss of cash Sunil had to suffer after producing the film Picket 43. O G Sunil in his complaint to Producers association said that Major Ravi had agreed to complete the film in 4 crore rupees before the shooting. But the films shooting and post-production got delayed many times and at last the film’s cost has raised to 4 crore and 70 lakhs except the amount needed for the marketing and publicity.
Later in an interview to RJ Mathukutty in Red FM famous program Red carpet O G Sunil said that Major Ravi did nothing in the film and it was Prithvi raj and jomon T john who had done all the hardworks to complete the film. Major ravi also reacted to this statement through the same program that it was really a funny at same time baseless argument from the part of a producer. He had directed 5 films and big hits like Keerthi Chakra and Kurukshetra with Star like Mohanlal in the lead. He does not need Prithviraj or Jomon T john to direct a film. He said that this argument of O G Sunil shows the dirty mind of person who can say whatever he wants without any logic.
Shakeela and Santhosh Pandit to be seen together with Dileep
The latest hot news in Mollywood is the Dileep film which will be directed by Sreebala K Menon, who is making her debut as an independent director, She is the associate director of Master of evergreen Malayalam films, Sathyan Anthikad. After working and learning the art of film making under the perfect guidance of Sathyan Anthikad, Sreebala is all set to start her maiden venture and according to reports the film will start rolling from 14 th March 2015.
After the popular screen play writer and director Anjali Menon, another female force named Sreebala is all set to rock Mollywood with her film. Revathy Gupta is the another female director who emerged from Kerala and mollywood seems to be a good platform for female film makers more than any other film industries in India.
Popular actor Dileep will play the male lead in Sreebala’s debut film and new face Midhila will play the female lead in this movie. The main location of the film is Trivandrum and the plot of the film revolves around press and Media. Dileep is portraying the character of a channel program anchor in this film. Another interesting news is coming in that Shakeela who was famous for her roles the soft Malayalam and Tamil soft porn movies and also Santhosh Pandit to be seen together with Dileep in this film. The news is not a confirmed one yet but it doing its rounds in social medias for some days.
Shakeela had already acted in many Malayalam films apart from her soft porn film. But it is for the first time that Santhosh Pandit will be seen in a mainstream Malayalam film apart from the ‘self -claimed classics’ he makes on his own. The film will be financed by E 4 Entertainments and Grand Productions. Apart from Dileep, Shakkeela and Santhosh Pandit, other actors who is a part of the cast list of the film is famous actor and media activist Sasi Kumar,Suhasini, lena, Shankar Rama Krishnan etc.
Rafeeq ahammad had penned down the lyrics for the songs of the movie while Biji Pal manages the music department. Young and upcoming talent Sameer Haq will be the DOP of the film. Sreebala herself writing the script of the film and we all hope that the film does well and film lovers will give a grand welcome to Sreebala K Menon to Mollywood.
Fireman is the first hit of this year, says Milan Jaleel
Mollywood is now witnessing a war of words between producers and exhibitors. Yesterday the president of Exhibitors federation Liberty Basheer said to an online media that Mollywood has no hit films till March 6 this year and the films like Picket 43 and Fireman are only average grossers. They cannot be termed as hit films as both films not got going at the box office and only managed to stand in box office for just 1-2 weeks. Liberty Basheer also told that the claims of success by the makers of those films are just fake ones and only poster magics that makes it hit, not the theater collections.
Later the producer of the film Fireman, Milan Jaleel, who financed that film under his banner of Galaxy films had come out and said that Fireman is the first hit of the year. He said that Fireman has done the business above 5 crore including the satellite rights. He said that there is a situation in our industry is that most of the films did not able to stand in box office and success is very rare. But such comments made by Liberty Basheer is only an effort weaken even the successfully running films like fireman. Milan Jaleel also said that he can’t be able to understand why people like Liberty Basheer saying like this who is a responsible and experienced film personality.
Yesterday the producer of Picket 43, O G Sunil came out and said that he had lost rupees 70 lakhs due to the failure of the director Major Ravi who had directed Picket 43 produced by him. O G Sunil said that Major Ravi had agreed to make that film for 4 crore rupees and at last made it in 4.7 crore and publicity cost also came extra. It is a bizzare situation for Malayalam cinema as this war of words only results in keeping the viewers away from theaters. We don’t know who is speaking the truth.
Milan jaleel had said that fireman has done the business above 5 crore including the satellite rights of the film. So it means that its theatrer collection is not as good as expected. Liberty Basheer told about the theater collection. There is fact on both sides, but Mollywood is suffering with all of these facts and figures at the end.
Fireman and Picket 43 success are only poster magic, says Liberty Basheer
Liberty basheer, the Film exhibitors federation president had come out today with a strong statement about the poster magic in Mollywood and the truth behind the so- called success story of some mollywood films. In an interview to an online media he has expressed his views and he has of the opinion that Malayalam cinema is undergoing through a really crisis period and we have to take something very bold step to make it back on track.
He said that films like ‘Picket 43’ and ‘Fireman’ which claimed as hit films through online medias and advertisements are not hits at all. They are just fake claims that they become hits in box-office. Liberty Basheer said that those films only managed to complete a few weeks in major theaters and now the makers are claiming through the advertising posters that films are big successes. But he says that they are just average grossers only and as he is the president of the exhibitors federation of Kerala he knows the real facts and figures of the films.
‘Picket 43 is directed by Major Ravi and starred by Prithviraj and Javed Jeoffrey had opened to good word of mouth from public, but according to liberty Basheer that not reflected in its box office performance as it remains only to the list of average grossers. And ‘Fireman’s case is no different. The film opened to mixed opinions both negative and positive. But does not even got good initial and it also ended up as an average grosser at the money register of Mollywood. Both films made to that list with utmost difficulty as there was not at all any crowd pull in theaters.
He said that there are 31 Mollywood films and 10 other language films got released in mollywood from January 1st to March 6 and still mollywood has no solid hit registered in its box office. Liberty Basheer on the question of other language films dismissed the claims that other language films consuming the theater collections from mollywood. He said that among other language films which released in this year only Shankar’s ‘I’ did some business at box office here. He at last said that if the summer vacation releases also went this way, Malayalam film will have to face the greatest crisis in its history to say the least.
