Here’s the trailer of Mammootty-Parvathy starrer Puzhu

It has been announced that the Mammootty-Parvathy Thriuvoth starrer ‘Puzhu’ will have a direct OTT release. The film will start streaming on May 13 on Sony Liv. Meanwhile, its trailer has been released online. Directed by debutante Ratheena, ‘Puzhu’ is touted to be a domestic thriller in which Mammootty plays a grey-shaded role. The 1.14-minute reveals nothing except for the fact that veteran plays a widower who lives with his son.

‘Puzhu’ has its story written by Harshad, who previously scripted ‘Unda’, also starring Mammootty. Suhas-Sharfu, who penned ‘Varathan’ and ‘Virus’, are also part of the writing team of ‘Puzhu’. Dulquer is producing the film along with Mammootty’s longtime associate, S George’s Cyn Cyl Celluloid.

‘Puzhu’ is Mammootty’s first film to have a direct digital release. Earlier in a statement, the veteran had said that it’s the film story that excited him the most. He is quoted saying, “The story of Puzhu exited me the most. As an actor, it has always been my aim to keep reinventing myself, and to take up newer, more exciting projects. Puzhu marks another step in that direction. We tried to tell a story that we believed in and put our hearts into. Hope the viewers like what they see.”

Jana Gana Mana crosses the 20 crore mark in 5 days

The makers of Jana Gana Mana have announced that the film has grossed Rs 20 crores from its 5 days theatrical run worldwide. Starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu as the leads, the film is a socio-political thriller that raises many pertinent questions. It is scripted by Sharis Mohammed and directed by Dijo Jose Antony of ‘Queen’ fame.

‘Jana Gana Mana’ has opened to largely positive response. Both critics and the commoners have lapped up the film, with particular praise for Prithviraj’s performance. Others in the cast include Mamta Mohandas, veteran actor Shari, Dhruvan, Vincy Aloshious and ‘June’ fame Vaishnavi Venugopal.

The technical crew has Sudeep Elamon of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ fame as the cinematographer and Jakes Bejoy as the music director. Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen are jointly producing the film under the banners of Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.

Mammootty’s next titled Rorschach; First look out

Mammootty’s next with ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ director Nisam Basheer has been titled as ‘Rorschach’. Last day, the makers unveiled a stunning first look poster in which Mammootty is seen wearing a mask. From the first look, it seems like the film will be a dark thriller. The team is currently on a schedule break and shoot is expected to resume shortly.

‘Rorschach’ is scripted by Sameer Abdul, who has earlier penned the Asif Ali films, ‘Ibilis’ and ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’. The film also stars Sharafudheen, Jagadheesh, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker, Sanju Sivaram, and Kottayam Nazeer.

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal trailer promises loads of fun

As ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’ gears up for theatrical release on April 28, the makers recently released the trailer online. The Vignesh Shivan directorial is touted to be a fun rom-com and the trailer promises exactly the same. Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha and Nayanthara play the leads in the film.

Vijay Sethupathi essays a character named Ranjankudi Anbarasu Murugesa Boopathy Ohoondhiran aka Rambo in it. The film has Samantha playing a role named Kathija and Nayanthara as Kanmani. From the trailer, the film seems to be about how the two women try to win over Rambo.

The supporting cast also includes former Indian cricketer Sreesanth, Prabhu, Redin Kingsley and Maaran. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music and Vijay Karthik Kannan of ‘Aadai’ and ‘Doctor’ fame cranks the camera.

The film is produced jointly by 7 Screen Studios and Rowdy Pictures.

Teaser of Nani-Nazriya starrer Ante Sundaraniki grabs attention

As reported by us earlier, Malayali actress Nazriya is making her debut in Telugu cinema with a musical rom-com titled ‘Ante Sundaraniki’. The film stars Nani as the male lead. Vivek Athreya of ‘Mental Madhilo’ and ‘Brochevarevarura’ fame is directing the film. Its trailer got released recently and has got excellent response from all corners.

From the teaser, we understand that the film is a light-hearted entertainer about how two people from different religious backgrounds fall in love and the problems they face. While Nani plays Hindu guy who comes from a highly orthodox family, Nazirya’s character is a Christian.

‘Ante Sundaraniki’ also has another Malayali actress – Tanvi Ram – as part of the film’s cast. Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar Y are jointly producing the film under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers. On the technical front, Vivek Sagar handles the music department and Niketh Bommi of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ fame cranks the camera. Editor Raviteja Girijala, production designer Latha Tharun and sound designer Varun Venugopal are also part of the film’s technical crew.

‘Ante Sundaraniki’ is slated for theatre release on 10 June 2022.

Jayasurya’s John Luther trailer is thrilling

We had earlier reported about Jayasurya starring in a new film titled ‘John Luther’. Written and directed by debutant Abhijith Joseph, the film is touted to be a thriller. Its trailer got released recently and looks highly promising. Jayasurya plays a cop’s role, who during an investigation loses his hearing ability. How he manages to solve the case despite his limitations seems to be the film’s crux. Flashes of the actor’s excellent acting skills are shown in the trailer. The cast also includes Aditi Ravi, Deepak Parambol, ‘Ambili’ fame Tanvi Ram and Siddique.

Thomas P Mathew is producing ‘John Luther’ under the banner of Alonsa Films. Roby Varghese Raj is the cinematographer and music is by Shaan Rahman. Praveen Prabhakar is in charge of the edits.

Jayasurya meanwhile has his kitty full with some interesting projects. ‘Eesho’ directed by Nadhirshah will be his next release. The actor is also reuniting with ‘Vellam’ director Prajesh Sen for a new film titled ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’. The film which is about a radio jockey also has Manju Warrier in it.

‘Aposthalan’, ‘John Luther’, an untitled film with Tinu Pappachan and the ambitious 3D film based on Kadamattathu Kathanar are Jayasurya’s other projects in the pipeline.

Kuttavum Shikshayum gets a new release date

The long delayed Rajeev Ravi directorial ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ is finally scheduled to hit screens on May 27. The film was supposed to release last year itself but got postponed multipled times due to unknown reasons. There were also speculations about the film getting a direct release on Netflix, but the makers have now confirmed that it will be getting a theatrical release.

‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ stars Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne, Sharafudheen, Alencier Ley Lopez and Senthil Krishna as the leads. It is an investigation thriller based on a real-life incident of a jewellery robbery that occured in Kasargod in 2015. The case took a 5-member team from the Kerala police force to a dreaded village in Uttar Pradesh where they risked their lives to arrest the culprits.

Sibi Thomas, a policeman in real life, who had also acted in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, has scripted ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ along with journalist Sreejith Divakaran.

Asif Ali essays the role of a Circle Inspector named Sajan Philip in the film. Sunny Wayne, Sharafudheen, Alencier Ley Lopez and Senthil Krishna also play cops in it.

CBI 5 trailer is intriguing; Mammootty’s Sethurama Iyer is back to solve puzzles

The makers of ‘CBI 5: The Brain’ had released the film’s trailer recently. Mammootty’s return as CBI officer Sethurama Iyer is the major highlight in it. The fifth installment of ‘CBI’ series marks the reunion of Mammootty with script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu.

Along with Mammootty, actors Mukesh and Sai Kumar are also reprising their characters, Chacko and Sathyadas, respectively. Jagathy Sreekumar is also making a cameo appearance. While Anoop Menon and Sudev Nair play cops, Dileesh Pothan essays the role of a politician. Renji Panicker, Alexander Prashanth and Ramesh Pisharody are also part of the CBI team.

Soubin Shahir, Asha Sarath, Anna Reshma Rajan, Malavika Nair, Swasika, Ansiba Hassan, Kottayam Ramesh and many others are part of the supporting cast. Jakes Bejoy is composing the music and Akhil George is behind the visuals.

Swargachitra Appachan is producing the film. The makers have announce that the film will be hitting screens worldwide on May 1.

Antakshari Review: A highly impressive whodunnit

Of late, Malayalam cinema has seen a surge in thrillers. Antakshari is the latest entrant to the club. Written and directed by Vipin Das of ‘Mudhugauv’ fame, ‘Antakshari’ is a smartly made whodunnit thriller.

The film is set in a plantation area with only very few settlements. The atmosphere itself is eerie and perfect for a thriller of this nature.
Saiju Kurup plays the lead role of a local Circle Inspector named Das. He is obsessed with the game of Antakshari and makes the accused in his station sing songs continuously. One day, he receives a threat call from a stranger, who is also in Antakshari. Though Das dismisses it as some random anonymous call, things get serious after a murder attempt on his daughter. He along with his subordinate, played by Sudhi Kopp, try to find out the killer. While they initially assume it to be a case of personal vengeance, their investigation leads them to opening a can of worms. How they manage to crack the case and catch the culprit forms the rest of plot.

Antakshari is powered by some excellent writing. The film has multiple storylines and the timelines of these storylines aren’t established anywhere. It is only towards the end where the knots are untied that we get to realize the sequence of events. The film’s other biggest strength is its technical finesse. The atmospheric soundscape helps a great deal in conveying the thriller mode. Despite the fact that some scenes are predictable, it is the spooky sound design that amps up the thrill factor.

On the performance side, lead actor Saiju Kurup carries the film effortlessly on his shoulders. With his expressive eyes, the actor ensures that the character is safe in his hands. As his traumatized wife, Priyanka Nair also makes an impression. Binu Pappu, Sudhi Koppa, Sabareesh Varma, and Kottayam Ramesh are the other notable performers.

‘Antakshari’ has some flaws with regards to how ceratin storylines don’t get a proper closure. But the ambiguity also works in the film’s favour and intrigues one to ponder over and perhaps revisit it.

Tovino Thomas joins hands with Yoodlee Films to produce films and web shows in Malayalam and Hindi

Tovino Thomas is joining hands with Yoodlee Films, the film division of Saregama, a leading music label owned by the RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group of companies, for a multi-project deal. The actor’s banner, Tovino Thomas Productions will be collaborating with Yoodlee Films to produce films and web shows in Malayalam and Hindi.

Tovino, who found nationwide popularity after the release of ‘Minnal Murali’, seems to be expanding his wings with this new collaboration. The actor has multiple other projects lined up in Malayalam. He has ‘Thallumala’ with Khalid Rahman, ‘Vaashi’ co-starring Keerthy Suresh, and Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Vazhakku’ in different stages of production.

‘Varavu’, Anveshippin Kandethum’, ‘Ajayante Randaam Moshanam’, an untitled film with Lal Jr are some of Tovino’s other announced projects. He will also be starring alongside Prithviraj in the upcoming spy-thriller ‘Karachi 81’, directed by KS Bava.

Meanwhile, Yoodlee Films is foraying into Malayalam film industry by backing the upcoming Nivin Pauly-starrer ‘Padavettu’. The banner is also associating with Prithviraj for his maiden web series. He will be directing and acting in the Hindi series based on ‘Biscuit King’ Rajan Pillai.
