Jayasurya to star in a new film titled Writer

Jayasurya is set to star in a new film titled Writer. Debutant Ravi Sankar, a former associate of Amal Neerad is directing the film. Scripted by Shahi Kabir, the film looks like a cop story from its title poster. The scenarist, a policeman himself, has previously penned ‘Joseph’ and ‘Nayattu’.

‘Writer’ has Nimish Ravi of ‘Kurup’ fame as the cinematographer. Kiran Das (‘Moothon’, ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’) is the editor. Yakzan and Neha will be handling the music department. The film is produced by Akhil and Ashik under the banner of Yulin Productions.

Jayasurya meanwhile has ‘Eesho’ directed by Nadhirshah lined up for release. The actor is also reuniting with ‘Vellam’ director Prajesh Sen for a new film titled ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’. The film which is about a radio jockey also has Manju Warrier in it.

‘Aposthalan’, ‘John Luther’, an untitled film with Tinu Pappachan and the ambitious 3D film based on Kadamattathu Kathanar are Jayasurya’s other projects in the pipeline.

Lalitham Sundaram starring Biju Menon and Manju Warrier set for direct OTT release

We had earlier reported about Manju Warrier and Biju Menon starring in a new film titled Lalitham Sundaram. The former’s brother Madhu Warrier is directing the film, which has been in production for over a year now. The film’s release also got postponed a few times due to the pandemic. Finally, the makers have decide to opt for a direct OTT release. Disney + Hotstar has bagged the streaming rights. The makers are yet to announce the premiere date.

‘Lalitham Sundaram’ scripted by Pramod Mohan is touted to be a feel-good, family entertainer. The film has Manju Warrier in an entrepreneur’s role while Biju Menon’s character owns an event management company. Anu Mohan will be seen as Manju Warrier’s brother. Deepti Sati has been cast as his girlfriend. The supporting cast includes Dileesh Pothan, Reghunath Paleri, Saiju Kurup and Zarina Wahab among others. Cinematographers P Sukumar, Gautham Sankar, music director Bijibal and editor Lijo Paul form the core technical crew.

Manju Warrier is producing the film along with Central Pictures.

It’s a wrap for Kamal Haasan-Lokesh film Vikram

Shoot for Kamal Haasan-Lokesh Kanagaraj film ‘Vikram’ has been wrapped up. A location video from the last day’s shoot is currently doing the rounds on social medias. The film which also stars Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most anticipated Tamil films coming up.

From the promos released so far, ‘Vikram’ promises to be an action-heavy mass entertainer, a genre that Kamal hasn’t done in a long time. The film also stars Narain, Kalidas Jayaram, Hareesh Peradi and Shivani Shivani Narayanan among others. The film has cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, music by Anirudh Ravichander, edits by Philomin Raj and stunts handled by AnbAriv duo.

Kamal Haasan’s own banner Raaj Kamal Film International (RKFI) is producing the film. With the shoot wrapped up, the makers are expected to begin the post-production in swing. An original announcement regarding the release date is still awaited.

Asif Ali joins the sets of Jeethu Joseph’s Kooman

Asif Ali’s new film ‘Kooman’ with Jeethu Joseph started rolling recently. The star has now joined the sets. Director Jeethu has shared a few location stills in his social media handle. Asif is seen sporting a neatly trimmed haircut and a thick moustache in the photos. Though his looks are reminiscent of a cop, the makers are yet to confirm the same.

‘Kooman’ is scripted by KR Krishna Kumar, who is also penning Jeethu’s upcoming film ’12th Man’. As confirmed by the director, ‘Kooman’ is a thriller, which Krishna Kumar had pitched it to him even before ’12th Man’. Along with Asif Ali, the star cast also includes Renji Panicker, Jaffer Idukki, Baburaj and Meghanathan.

The fifth installment in the CBI franchise has been titled as ‘CBI 5: The Brain’. The film marks the reunion of Mammootty with script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu. Swargachitra Appachan is producing the film. The makers announced the title with a motion poster, which is accompanied by the iconic score. It introduces Mammootty’s Sethurama Iyer as ‘the most non-violent investigator in the world’.

Along with Mammootty, the fifth installment has Mukesh and Sai Kumar reprising their characters, Chacko and Sathyadas, respectively. Anoop Menon, Dileesh Pothan, Renji Panicker, Soubin Shahir, Asha Sarath, Ramesh Pisharody, Sudev Nair, Anna Reshma Rajan, Malavika Menon, Malavika Nair, Swasika, Ansiba Hassan, Prashanth Alexander, Jayakrishnan, Idavela Babu, Kottayam Ramesh, Azeez Nedumangad and Santhosh Keezhattoor are also part of the cast.

On the technical front, Jakez Bejoy has been assigned as the music director and Akhil George is the DOP.

Actor Vijay has paid his tribute to Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away on October 29, 2020 due to cardiac arrest. The ‘Kaththi’ actor visited the Kanteerava Studio in Bengaluru to pay his last respects and also meet Puneeth’s family members to offer condolences. Photos and videos from Vijay’s visit are trending virally in social medias.

Even after months of Puneeth’s untimely demise, celebrities from across the nation continue to visit the memorial and pay their respects. Earlier, actors Suriya, Ram Charan, Vishal, Sivakarthikeyan, Allu Arjun and many others had made similar visits.

On the work front, Vijay’s ‘Beast’ is eyeing a grand release in April. The film directed by Nelson Dilpikumar is touted as a big scale action-comedy entertainer. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead. After Beast, Vijay will start shooting for his next with Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally.

Tovino and Asif Ali replace Prithviraj and Kunchacko Boban in Neelavelicham

Last year, on the 113th birth anniversary of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, it was announced that a film based on his novel ‘Neelavelicham’ will be made by director Aashiq Abu. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kunchacko Boban, Rima Kallingal and Soubin Shahir were announced as the lead actors.

Latest update is that Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali have replaced Prithviraj and Kunchacko Boban in the project. The delay caused by the pandemic in starting the project and the subsequent date clashes of the actors has resulted in the new casting. The makers are planning to start shoot soon.

Aashiq Abu has previously worked with Tovino and Asif Ali in ‘Mayaanadhi’ and ‘Salt n Pepper’, respectively. Notably, the director’s next release ‘Naradan’ also stars Tovino. The film is set to hit screens on March 3, 2022.

For ‘Neelavelicham’, Aashiq Abu has retained his regular set of technicians. Shyju Khalid is the cinematographer and music is by Bijibal and Rex Vijayan. Editor Saiju Sreedharan, costume designer Sameera Saneesh, production designer Jyothish Shankar and makeup artist Ronex Xavier are also part of the technical crew.

Aashiq Abu and Santhosh T Kuruvilla are jointly producing the film under the banner of OPM.

Sanya Malhotra to star in The Great Indian Kitchen Remake

The widely acclaimed Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ is set to be remade in Hindi. Sanya Malhotra has been signed to play the lead role in the film. Arati Kadav of ‘Cargo’ fame is directing the film and actor Harman Baweja is producing it.

Talking about the remake, Harman is quoted saying in a statement, “There is a certain mystic quality attached to The Great Indian Kitchen. The story stays with you well after the film. I wanted to make it for a pan-India audience with the perfect balance between entertainment and content-driven drama. I am super excited to collaborate with Sanya & Arati.”

‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, written and directed by Jeo Baby, is one of the most talked about Malayalam films in recent times. The film won widespread appreciation for its strong commentary against patriarchal norms and oppression against women. Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu played the lead roles in it.

The film is also getting remade in Tamil with the same title. In the Tamil version, Aishwarya Rajesh plays Nimisha’s role and Rahul Ravindran is reprising Suraj’s part. It is directed by R Kannan.

We had earlier reported about Kunchacko Boban teaming up with Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval of ‘Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25’ fame for a film titled ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’. Santhosh T Kuruvilla is jointly producing the film, shoot for which kick-started today.

‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ is planned as a courtroom drama. Vinay Forrt, Tamil actor Gayathrie Shankar of ‘Super Deluxe’ fame, Saiju Kurup, Rajesh Madhavan, and Jaffer Idukki will also be seen in major roles. The film will also have around 60 newcomers.

Three new Malayalam films — Jan E Man, Kunjeldho and Ajagajantharam, have started streaming on OTTs. Jan E Man is out on Sun NXT while Kunjeldho is available on Zee5 and Ajagajantharam on Sony Liv.

Among the three, Jan E Man was a sleeper hit at the box office. The film directed by debutant Chidambaram was released in theatres in November, 2021. Despite the presence of no big star, the film emerged as a superhit success. Basil Joseph, Balu Varghese, Lal, Ganapathi, and Arjun Ashokan are the main leads in the film.

Kunjeldho starring Asif Ali is a coming of age film directed by RJ Mathukutty. The film got released originally on 24 December 2021. After failing to impress the critics and commoners, it eventually ended up as a forgettable affair at the box office.

Ajagajantharam, which marked the reunion of Antony Varghese and director Tinu Pappachan after Swathanthryam Ardhathriyil, was a theatrical success. Youngsters lapped up the film, which is an action-packed mass entertainer set around a temple festival.
