Asif Ali’s Kooman with Jeethu Joseph begins

Earlier this month on Asif Ali’s birthday, it was announced that he will be teaming up with director Jeethu Joseph for a new film titled ‘Kooman’. Its shoot kick-started last day with a customary switch on. Allwin Antony is producing the film under the banner of Ananya Films.

‘Kooman’ is scripted by KR Krishna Kumar, who is also penning Jeethu’s upcoming film ’12th Man’. As confirmed by Jeethu, ‘Kooman’ is a thriller, which Krishna Kumar had pitched it to him even before ’12th Man’.

Along with Asif, the cast also includes Renji Panicker, Jaffer Idukki, Baburaj and Meghanathan. On the technical front, Jeethu has retained his frequent collaborator Satheesh Kurup as the cinematographer. Vishnu Shyam will be handling the music department and VS Vinayak is the editor. The director’s wife Linta Jeethu will be designing the costumes.

Last day, the makers of ‘Vikram Vedha’ unveiled the character look of Saif Ali Khan from the film. The actor, who plays a cop’s role, looks fit and dapper in the photo wearing a T shirt, jeans and a sunglass. The film, which is the official remake of the Tamil film of the same name, has Hrithik Roshan as the othee lead.

Pushkar-Gayathri duo, who helmed the original, is directing the remake version as well. Saif Ali Khan reprises the police officer’s role done by Madhavan, Hrithik plays the role of a gangster, which was essayed by Vijay Sethupathi in the original. Earlier on Hrithik’s birthday, the makers had shared his look in the film. In the photo, he was seen sporting a rugged, bearded look, while wearing a cool pair of sunnies and a black kurta.

The Hindi adaptation has been planned on a much bigger scale. The makers must have also tweaked the script for the remake to suit the sensiblities of the Hindi audience. Radhika Apte also plays a prominent role.

Bhushan Kumar and Reliance Entertainment are presenting the film in association with Friday Film Works and Y Not Studios. As announced earlier, the film will be hitting screens on September 30, 2022.

Rousing reception for Bheeshma Parvam trailer

Following an unexpected leak online, the makers of ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ were forced to release the trailer last day. As expected, the trailer is getting extraordinary response in social medias. The near 2-minute long video introduces the multiple characters in the film, with more prominence to the lead character Michael, played by Mammootty. The final frame in which all main characters in the film pose for a photograph suggests that they all belong to the same daily and the film is about their internal conflicts.

Newcomer Devadath Shaji has scripted the film along with Amal Neerad. Right from the title announcement, it was speculated that the film borrows its ideas from Mahabharatha and the familial conflicts shown in the trailer suggests the same. The film, set in the 80s, is touted to be a gangster drama.

Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, Farhaan Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, Anagha, Veena Nandakumar, Sudev Nair, Nadiya Moidu, ‘Pushpa’ fame Anasuya, Shebin Benson, Maala Parvathi and Lena also star in it. Cinematography is by Anend C Chandran and music is by Sushin Shyam.

Amal Neerad is producing the film under his own banner. It has been confirmed for a theatrical release on March 3.

KPAC Lalitha passes away

Veteran actress KPAC Lalitha passed away on Tuesday due to age-related ailments. She was 74. Lalitha was hospitalised due to multiple health issues in November. After her health improved, she was later shifted to her son Sidharth Bharathan’s residence in Kochi. Cremation will be held at her residence in Wadakkanchery on Wednesday. Public homage will be paid at her house at Thrippunithura and later at Thrissur.

A legend in the field of cinema, Lalitha has starred in over 550 films in a career spanning five decades. She has also won two National awards and multiple Kerala State awards. Though she worked primarily in Malayalam cinema and theatre, she has also done notable roles in Tamil films.

She started her acting career with KPAC, a theatre collective in Kayamkulam, Kerala. She made her debut in cinema with ‘Koottukudumbam’, directed by KS Sethumadhavan. In 1978, she married filmmaker Bharathan and took a break from film acting for sometime. She made her return with her husband’s film ‘Kattathe Kilikkoodu’ (1983).

Following Lalitha’s passing away, the whole of Malayalam film industry has expressed their condolences. She is survived by Lalitha her daughter Sreekutty and son Sidharth.

Valimai to be released in over 200 screens in Kerala; Early morning shows added

Amidst tremendous hype, Ajith’s ‘Valimai’ is set for worldwide theatrical release on February 24. E4 Entertainment is releasing the film in Kerala. It is learnt that they are planning to release ‘Valimai’ in over 200 screens. As per trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai, special early morning shows for fans will be held in a few centres. His tweet reads,

‘Valimai’ directed by H Vinoth is one of the most awaited Tamil films of the season. It promises be a big-scale mass-action entertainer in which Ajith plays a cop. Telugu actor Karthikeya Gummakonda ‘RX 100’ fame essays the antagonist.

Bollywood actress Huma Quresh, Bani, Sumithra, Achyunth Kumar, Yogi Babu, Raj Ayyappa, Pugazh, Druvan, Pearle Maaney and many others are part of the cast. Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly producing the film.

Director KP Vyaasan’s next titled Avalkoppam

Director KP Vyaasan has announced his next film. Titled ‘Avalkoppam’, the film is produced jointly under the banners of Film Craft and UK Studios. The makers have released a casting call looking for a child actors (male and female). It has been informed that a prominent female actor will be playing the lead role in the film but the makers are yet to reveal the name.

Meanwhile, the title ‘Avalkopam’ has invited criticisms from many. The word was originally coined to support the survivor in the actor assault case.

First look of Samantha’s pan-Indian film Shaakuntalam out

We had earlier reported Samantha starring in a new pan-Indian film titled ‘Shaakuntalam’. Its first look poster has just been released. The ethereal-looking poster has Samantha seated on a stone in the middle of the forest. She is surrounded by animals, including deers and swans.

The film is directed by Gunasekhar, who has made popular Telugu films like ‘Okkadu’ and ‘Rudhramadevi’. It is the screen adaptation of Kalidasa’s epic Sanskrit play, Abhijnana Shakuntalam. The film explores the love story of King Dushyantha and Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka. Malayalam actor Dev Mohan of ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ fame plays the male lead character, Dushyantha. Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha will be seen playing the role of Prince Bharata. Aditi Balan and Mohan Babu also star in it.

This ambitious film is produced by Neelima Guna’s Gunaa Teamworks and Sri Venkateswara Creations. The makers are yet to announce the release date.

Navya Nair’s Oruthee locks release date

Navya Nair’s comeback film ‘Oruthee’ is gearing up for release. It has been announced that the film will be hitting screens on March 11. The film is directed by VK Prakash and produced by Benzy Nazar under the banner of Benzy Productions.

Post her marriage, Navya has been away from movies. She is said to have come up with a stellar performance in her comeback film. She has already bagged a few awards for ‘Oruthee’ including the one for Best Actress at JC Daniel Foundation Film Awards.

The film scripted by S Suresh Babu has Navya Nair playing the role of a boat conductor, who is also a mother of two. Vinayakan plays a major character as a cop. This is the first time the ‘Kamattipaadam’ actor is playing a police officer’s role in his career.

‘Oruthee’ also stars Saiju Kurup, KPAC Lalitha, Sreedevi Varma, Kalabhavan Haneef and a few others. It has ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame Jimshi Khalid as the DOP, Lijo Paul as the editor and Gopi Sunder as the composer.

Unni Mukundan and Major Ravi to team up for an army-based film

Back in June 2020, Major Ravi had announced that he will be making a film based on the Indo-Chinese conflict. Titled as ‘Bridge on Galwan’, the film will be primarily centred around the construction of the strategic bridge on Galwan valley that was a key trigger for the issues between the two countries.

As per latest reports, Unni Mukundan will be playing the lead role in the film. Though Unni and Major Ravi had recently shared screen in the former’s ‘Meppadiyaan’, this will be their first outing as an actor-director duo. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.

Major Ravi first announced his film on Galwan valley when the tensions between India and China had escalated severely. During that time, the Indian army and China’s People’s Liberation Army had a clash which resulted in the martyrdom of many soldiers.

Major Ravi had then said that his film will be revealing the incidents that happened between India and Chinese in the past, the ripples in their bilateral ties and how it all led to such an escalation point. The director is said to be planning to make a pan-Indian film with top actors from various languages.
