Marakkar is ‘Hollywood level’ in all departments, says co-producer CJ Roy

After the multiple talks with theatre owners failed to reach an amicable solution, the makers of ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ have decided to skip theatrical release and opt for a direct premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The OTT giant is expected to announce the release date soon.

Meanwhile, a special preview show was arranged in Chennai for selected invitees. CJ Roy, the founder of Confident Group and one of the film’s co-producers, were among the attendees. After watching the film on big screen, Roy took to his Facebook handle to claim that ‘Marakkar’ is ‘Hollywood level’ in all departments and will remain a benchmark film for a very long time.

He has written,

Veteran actress Kozhikode Sharada passes away

Veteran Malayalam actress Kozhikode Sharada has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment treatment at the the Kozhikode Medical College. Reportedly, she was hospitalized on Monday night after she complained of breathing difficulties. She was 75.

Kozhikode Sharada started her acting career with dramas. She made her debut in cinema witj ‘Ankkakury’, which got released in 1979. She has worked with the legendary director IV Sasi in many films like ‘Anubandham’, ‘Nalkavala’ and ‘Annyarudae Bhumi’.

Sharada is also noted for her roles in films like ‘Sallapam’, ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’, ‘Kutty Srank’, ‘Utsava Pittennu’ and ‘Rappakal’. She has acted in around 80 films. Besides that, she has also acted in a few television serials.

Thee Minnal: First single from Minnal Murali is here!

The first single from ‘Minnal Murali’ has been released. It is an ‘idivettu’ track composed and arranged by Sushin Shyam. He has also sung the track along with Marthyan. Lyrics is penned by Manu Manjith.

Directed by Basil Joseph, ‘Minnal Murali’ is a pan-Indian film that is set to be released in 5 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. It is scripted by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew.

The film also stars Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram, Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Mammukoya, debutante Femina George and many others. Cinematographer Sameer Thahir and Hollywood-based action choreographer Vlad Rimburg are part of the technical team.

Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters is producing ‘Minnal Murali’. Though the makers were keen on a theatrical release, the long delay due to the pandemic forced them to opt for a direct OTT release.

The film will be out on Netflix on December 24 as a Christmas special.

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli most likely to have a direct OTT release

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s eagerly awaited film ‘Churuli’ might skip theatrical release. It is learnt that the makers are planning to release it directly on Sony Liv. Of late, the OTT platform has been bagging some interesting projects. ‘Kaanekaane’ and ‘Thinakalazhcha Nishchayam’ were the most recent releases in it.

‘Churuli’ has a lot of expectations among cinephiles. The film had its premiere earlier this year at the 25th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). It also won the audience poll Rajata Chakoram for the Best Film at the fest.

‘Churuli’ stars Vinay Forrt, Chemban Vinod Jose and Joju George as the leads. The film’s story is by popular novelist Vinay Thomas and screenplay is adapted by Hareesh of ‘Jallikattu’ fame. Its technical team comprises of ace cinematographer Madhu Neelakantan, editor Deepu Joseph, composer Sreerag Saji and sound designer Renganaath Ravee.

Director Lijo meanwhile has started works on his new film with Mammootty. Titled ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’, it is said to be a hybrid film with the characters in it speaking both Tamil and Malayalam. Hareesh is scripting this film as well.

Maahan starring Vikram and Dhruv to have an OTT release!

In what might come as a huge disappointment for Vikram fans, the much-anticipated ‘Mahaan’ is set to skip theatrical release. Buzz is that the film will be releasing directly on Amazon Prime Video and the makers have already signed the deal. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, ‘Mahaan’ has Vikram sharing screen space with his son Dhruv for the first time. The film promises to be an action-packed gangster flick. While Vikram plays the titular role, Dhruv essays a character named Dada. It is learnt that the two play a father-son duo in the film as well.

‘Mahaan’ also stars Simran, Vani P Bhojan, Bobby Simha, Sananth and Muthukumar. The film bankrolled by Seven Screen Studios has music by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna.

It must be noted that director Karthik Subbaraj’s last film ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ starring Dhanush also had a director OTT release on Netflix.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute set to hit screens in December

Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Salute’ is gearing up for its theatrical release. It is learnt that the makers are planning to release it on December 17 ahead of Christmas. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.

‘Salute’ directed by Rosshan Andrrews promises to be a cop-investigative thriller. Dulquer Salmaan plays the role of sub-Inspector named Aravind Karunakaran in it. This is the first time the actor is playing a full fledged police role in his career.

The film is scripted by Bobby and Sanjay. Bollywood actress Diana Penty of ‘Cocktail’ fame plays the female lead. Manoj K Jayan, Saniya Iyappan, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Alencier Ley Lopez, Binu Pappu and Vijay Kumar are essaying other prominent roles in it. Dulquer himself is producing the film under his banner Wayfarer Films.

Meanwhile, the star’s long-awaited ‘Kurup’ is all set for theatrical release this Friday (November 12). The film is set for a grand release with a huge number of screens already booked in Kerala.

New teaser of Balu Varghese-Sreenath Bhasi starrer Sumesh & Ramesh out

‘Sumesh & Ramesh’ is an upcoming film starring Sreenath Bhasi and Balu Varghese as the leads. The two play brothers in the film while Praveena and Salim Kumar will be seen as their parents. A new teaser featuring Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese and Salim Kumar has been released. It is a scene featuring a fun conversation between the father and sons. Earlier, the makers had released another similar scene which had Praveena along with the two sons.

From the promos, ‘Sumesh & Ramesh’ looks like a slice-of-life fun entertainer revolving around the events that occur within the family. SanoopThykoodam, one of the co-writers of the Omar Lulu film ‘Chunkzz’, is making his directorial debut with this film. He has jointly scripted it with Joseph Vijeesh, who is also one of the writers of ‘Chunkzz’.

On the technical front, Alby is handling the camera and Ayoob Khan is the editor. The duo of Yakzan Gary Periera and Neha Nair have composed the music. Ayoob Khan is the editor.

‘Sumesh & Ramesh’ is produced by Fareed Khan under the banner of White Sands Media House. KL 7 Entertainments is also involved in the film’s production. The makers are planning to release it in theatres on November 26.

Excellent response for Kurup trailer

It has been three days since the release of ‘Kurup’ trailer and it continues to garner great response in social medias. It has already fetched 3.8 million views in YouTube. Since ‘Kurup’ is a pan-Indian film, the trailer has been released in four other languages — Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu. Dulquer himself has dubbed in all the languages except Kannada.

‘Kurup’ directed by Srinath Rajendran is based on the real life criminal Sukumara Kurup. The trailer gives glimpse of a lot of lesser known stories about Kurup’s life. The film covers his stint in the Air Force, his life in Dubai and how he absconded from the cops for such a long period.

The film also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko and Surabhi Lakshmi. Dulquer’s own banner Wayfarer Films is producing the film along with M Star Entertainment.

First glimpse from Kamal Hassan’s Vikram out

As Kamal Haasan celebrates his birthday today, the makers of ‘Vikram’ have shared the first glimpse from the film. The video opens with a gun fight in what looks like a jail. Kamal Haasan enters the frame in slow motion, holding two iron shields to protect himself and those behind him. It is his aggression and the intensity in his eyes that grabs all the attention. Anirudh Ravichander’s music is sure to trigger the goosebumps.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Vikram’ promises to be an action treat. Vijay Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil will be seen in prominent roles in the film. Others in the cast include Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, Megha Akash, Chemban Vinod Jose and Shivani Narayanan.

‘Vikram’ has cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, music by Anirudh Ravichander, edits by Philomin Raj and stunts handled by AnbAriv duo. Kamal Haasan’s own banner Raaj Kamal Film International (RKFI) is producing the film.

Though ‘Vikram’ was rumoured to be a spin-off of Kamal’s 1986 film of the same name, the makers are yet to confirm it.
