Watch: Biju Menon pays tribute to Kerala Police!

The state of Kerala is doing extremely well in the fight against Covid-19. During the initial stages of the outbreak in the country, Kerala was among the worst affected. But today, with the collective efforts of the health departments, police force, various government bodies and the common citizens, the state is flattening the curve quite remarkably. Other states in the country are now looking up to Kerala and follow their model in containing the virus.

Along with the public health system, it is the strenuous efforts of Kerala police that has come in handy during these tough times. Even during the floods and Nipah outbreak, the state police force has worked relentlessly to serve the public. A tribute video to Kerala’s men in khakis has been released online.

Malayalam actor Biju Menon, who has played several cop characters in his career including the most recent ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, features in the video. He is seen praising the police force for their incredible work and ends the video with a salute to them.

Last day, during a casual interaction with his followers in Facebook, he was asked about how things are shaping up for ‘Bilal’. He informed that he has already started composing and assured that he will be giving his best for the film.

If things were normal, ‘Bilal’ would have gone on floors by now. But due to the lockdown, the makers had to postpone their plans. Shoot is expected to begin soon after the Corona crisis is over.

Kajal Aggarwal donates Rs 2 lakhs to Corona Crisis Charity

Several celebrities from the Indian film industry are offering financial assistance to the daily wage workers who have been jobless ever since the lockdown was imposed last month. Several top stars from Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu have been contributing to help the workers in this hour of need. Despite that, there has been a complaint among many about female actors not donating much when compared to their male counterparts.

Nayanthara was among the first to offer a financial assistance of Rs 20 lakhs to the workers. Aishwarya Rajesh, veteran Sripriya and Parvathy Nair are the other few female actors to have done their bit. Kajal Aggarwal is now the latest to join the club. She has donated Rs 2 lakhs to the Corona Crisis Charity (CCC) set up by the Telugu film industry for the welafe of the daily wage labourers. While many have been providing money, some have also supplied rice bags and other raw materials.

Ram Charan suggested Sujeeth’s name for directing Lucifer remake, reveals Chiranjeevi

Malayalam cinema’s biggest ever blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ is set to be remade in Telugu. Megastar Chiranjeevi will be reprising the role played by Mohanlal in the original. Though Sukumar was initially supposed to direct the film, it has now been confirmed that Sujeeth of ‘Saaho’ fame will be helming it. Chiranjeevi’s son actor Ram Charan will be producing the film.

Interestingly, it was Ram Charan who suggested Sujeeth’s name for the remake. Chirnajeevi himself revealed this in a recent interview. He firmly believes that the character in ‘Lucifer’ fits his personality. Sujeeth has recommended some changes to the original script to make it suitable for the Telugu audience. Due to the lockdown, the makers are planning to work things out over video calls.

Chiranjeevi is yet to complete shooting for ‘Acharya’ directed by Sukumar. He will be starting works on ‘Lucifer’ remake only after its completion. Shoot is likely to kick-start some time by the end of this year.

It has long been speculated that Shah Rukh Khan would be teaming up with Tamil filmmaker Atlee. Over the last few months, the two have had multiple meetings and discussions but a formal announcement has not yet been made. It is heard that SRK has asked for a few changes in the script and Atlee is currently working on it. Karan Johar will be producing the film.

Meanwhile, there are talks that young Bollywood star Varun Dhawan will also be part of Shah Rukh Khan-Atlee film. The rumours got strengthened after Varun recently shared the trailer of Atlee’s upcoming Tamil production ‘Andhaghaaram’ in his social media handle. Karan Johar had also shared the trailer and wished luck to Atlee.

Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan earlier acted together in ‘Diwali’ but the film tanked at the box office. So it wi be interesting to see if Atlee succeeds in bringing the two stars together again. Let’s expect that an official word will be made soon.

Mani Ratnam confirms that Ponniyin Selvan is being made in two parts!

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is one of the most ambitious films in the making in Indian cinema currently. The film stars a plethora of stars from various languages. It is originally based on a historical Tamil novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. It tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I.

Director Mani Ratnam in a recent social media interaction with his followers confirmed that the film is being made in two parts. He has adapted its screenplay along with Siva Anand and Kumaravel. Jayamohan has penned the dialogues. Mani Ratnam’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production.

The cast of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Prabhu, Kishore, Rahman, Lal, Ashwin Kakumanu and many others. The film’s first schedule of shoot was wrapped up in Thailand in January.

Karthi, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi were some of the actors who participated in the first leg of shoot. DOP Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and composer AR Rahman form the film’s core technical crew.

Raghava Lawrence continues to win hearts with his generous contributions towards Covid-19 relief. He had already donated Rs 3 crores and more recently he has pledged financial assistance of another Rs 25 lakhs to Tamil Nadu’s Corporation sanitary workers. This amount is from the advance of his new film with producer Kathiresan.

When it comes to helping the needy, Lawrence has always been on the forefront. Recently, he donated the entire advance amount of Rs 3 crores that he received as advance from Sun Pictures for his new film ‘Chandramukhi 2’. From the amount, Rs 50 lakhs each is promised to the PM – CARES fund, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s relief fund, FEFSI workers and Dancer’s Union. Rs 25 lakhs will be donated to the physical disabled boys who he has been supporting for long and another Rs 75 lakhs for daily wage labourers from his birth place Royapuram in Chennai.

Even after making such huge contributions, Lawrence feels that the amount he has donated won’t be enough. Ever since he made the announcement about donating Rs 3 crores, he has been getting many calls and messages for help from those within the film industry and others. It has deeply moved him and he is planning to offer financial assistance to more people.

Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is a highly anticipated film. It was suppose up to hit screens this month but due to the lockdown, plans had to be changed. The film directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. Suriya plays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business.

Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali is paired with him. She essays a character named Bommi. This is her third outing in Tamil after ‘8 Thottakal’ and ‘Sarvam Thaala Mayam’. For her character in ‘Soorarai Pottru’, the actress underwent several interesting workshops. She dubbed in the typical Madurai slang with the help of a special coach.

The cast of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ also includes Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkatb and Mohan Babu in important roles. GV Prakash is handling the music department. Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment.
